How Not to Avoid the Medbay
The Jefferies Tubes really had a lot of great uses with hiding being one of them.
Pavel was currently initiating that use to try and remain out of the clutches of a certain doctor and he wasn't even ill…well he was but it wasn't that bad. He only had a minor cold with a runny nose, sore throat, tiredness, being unable to hold down much food, sore head…okay it was bad, but he could still move around and work so there was no reason for him to go to the Medbay with its scary machines, hypos and surgical equipment. This was why he was crouched in a Jefferies Tube trying to keep quiet and hoping that McCoy wouldn't find him.
He'd come onto the bridge to start his shift earlier but Jim had taken one look at his obviously ill navigator and instantly called McCoy, Pavel had then promptly escaped from the watchful bridge before the doctor could get there and dived into the nearest Jefferies Tube. That had been about an hour ago and seeing as no-one had found him yet Pavel assumed his tampering with the ships systems meant that he'd successfully prevented the computer from being able to locate him. He kept a sharp ear out listening for anyone near his position as he knew it would only be a matter of time before they started searching the tubes for him. His plan was to keep moving and stay out of sight in the hope that they would simply stop looking for him, of course he'd somehow forgotten that Jim wasn't going to stop looking if he thought the teen was unwell and McCoy would rather die than allow a patient, especially one he was fond of, to remain untreated.
His hopes were in vain as suddenly someone grabbed him from behind and quickly but gently pulled him out of the Jefferies Tube. He let out a squeak of surprise and found himself being held by one Doctor McCoy, "There you are kid!"
Pavel tried to break free but the doctor was having none of it and simply tucked him under his arm like a toddler and carried him to the Medbay with the teen protesting loudly the whole way.
Once again Pavel was in the Jefferies Tubes but this time he'd found a genius spot.
He was in the section right next to the Medbay which would be the last place anyone would look for him. He had picked up another minor illness somewhere and this time he hadn't even gone to the bridge as he knew that anyone there would simply try and send him to Medbay. He'd also made the computer think he was somewhere in Engineering so everyone would be looking for him there and as such he thought he'd have a couple of hours before they started searching the rest of the ship. Unfortunately he hadn't reckoned on the fact that Jim and McCoy knew him very well and had seen through his ruse; as such they were looking everywhere except in Engineering so Pavel had far less time than he thought.
This meant that he wasn't really listening out as he should have been allowing Bones to sneak up to the Jefferies Tube's access hatch Pavel was behind and suddenly open it. The surprised teen tumbled out straight into the doctor's waiting arms and the boy looked up at the man who was grinning at him, "Nice try Pavel but we know you too well."
Again Pavel tried to escape but no amount of struggling or pleading would prevent McCoy from doing his job.
Pavel's latest attempt to avoid the Medbay was more energetic than his previous ones.
It was obvious that the Jefferies Tubes were no longer suitable to hide in so he'd opted for running for it instead. He sped down the corridors and was performing lightning quick reprogramming on the doors and sealing them behind him as he went. However it wasn't long before the several security members who were trying to catch him were back on his trail and he knew he'd have to find a better way to lose them. He was then struck by an epiphany and quickly changed his direction and headed towards the automated waste disposal system.
His pursuers were still with him when he reached it and he was soon diving between the various pipes and tubes trying to find his goal, a flash of feathers caught his attention and he grinned. There was a familiar sounding voice behind him and he saw that McCoy was leading the men trying to catch him and he increased his speed. He charged towards his target which noticed the teen heading towards it and gave a sound of warning, Pavel ignored it however and continued his charge. At the last moment he dived to the side into a narrow gap allowing the goose to set its sights on a set of new intruders into its domain. Deciding that the boy was less important than the several security officers and doctor it charged towards Pavel's pursuers just as the teen had hoped. The security officers noticeably panicked and seemed about to turn tail and run from the feathered behemoth, McCoy however just kept on running towards it, shouting as he went, "YOU'RE NOT STOPPING ME YOU GLORIFIED FEATHER BED!"
The Doctor shoulder barged the goose at full pelt; the goose gave a squawk of alarm as it was propelled back several feet and slammed its back with its wings spread against the wall behind it.
Ignoring the security officers who were gazing at him with the kind of awe you did when witnessing a force of nature Bones turned and gave Pavel, who was still in his little alcove, a deadly glare causing the boy to visibly quail. The doctor simply took Pavel's upper arm and pulled him out of the alcove and to the Medbay not sparing the goose, which was now staggering, dazedly further into the pipes and tubes, a second glance.
Pavel decided that now really wasn't the time to cause problems and went quietly.
PS-So please let me know what you thought and please keep giving your suggestion because although I'm thinking of a new story I wont be abandoning this one.
