After Festivities

They had hit the worst time of the entire year, that moment dreaded by children and teenagers everywhere, that moment where they hit the day after the festive season and all the adults become inexplicably boring.

On the Enterprise this had happened and no-one, not even Jim, were doing anything remotely exciting and Pavel was bored. Granted they still had duties to attend to, starships didn't fly themselves after all, but surely they could do something interesting in their spare time but all they did was go to the rec room and sit there which was where they were now.

Pavel looked round the room, Spock was reading through what was possibly some scientific journal, Nyota was sat next to him seemingly happy doing not a lot, Sulu was on another couch doing a crossword of all things, Bones and Scotty had actually fallen asleep in their respective seats and Jim was sat doing nothing with Pavel beside him who was trying not to fidget. The teen gave a small sigh and noticed that Jim gave him a quick look; he then had an idea to alleviate his boredom.

He waited a bit and then sighed again but slightly louder and Hikaru looked up at him briefly before returning to his crossword. Again Pavel waited a bit before giving an even louder sigh, everyone looked at him with a tinge of annoyance and he decided to move on to the next part of his idea. Once more he waited until everyone else returned to what they were doing and then he initiated the next phase.

"Pop!"

Everyone looked up at the sudden noise and Pavel quickly donned an innocent expression but he was sure he hadn't fooled Jim. The Captain rolled his eyes and soon they all settled down again.

"POP!"

This one startled Bones and Scotty from their nap and they looked around in confusion as everyone else tried to pointedly ignore the teen responsible.

"POP!"

Bones and Scotty had now worked out what was going on and they joined the rest in ignoring Pavel which made the teen only more determined.

"POP!"

There was an irritated noise from Nyota and Spock was staring at the boy with his eyebrow raised.

"POP!"

Jim pinched the bridge of his nose as Bones gave an annoyed growl.

"POP!"

"Pavel!" Jim had obviously had enough and Pavel answered innocently,

"Da sir?"

"Stop doing that."

"Da sir."

Satisfied he looked away from Pavel and soon things settled down again. It wasn't long however until the teen started drumming his fingers on the arm of the chair which everyone again tried to ignore. They managed until he began to whistle the same song over and over again.

It wasn't until the tenth repetition that Jim finally gave in, "That's it!"

He opened the internal comms and spoke into them with frustration obvious in his tone, "Hendorff, I don't care what you're doing but you are coming up here and finding something to occupy Pavel which isn't work!"

The answer came back swiftly, "Aye sir."

It wasn't long before Hendorff arrived with a board game and Ensigns Harvard and Rogers in tow. Soon they and Pavel were fully immersed in the game giving the others some peace and quiet for a few hours.
