AN: Welcome to Chapter 22, I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 22: Patrols

The sun shone down on the early-morning waves, its reflection shining off the water. However, a shadow cut the light from the waves, sending them back into darkness. A large metal warship sailed past, its objective was one handed down by their commanding officer, the joint-fleet admiral Rodger Stevenson.

The captain of this warship was a man around the age of 30, with clean-cut blonde hair and emerald eyes; his nose was slightly pointy at the end. The man wore a clear-white, long-sleeved shirt and dark blue tie. On his shoulders, a badge sat on each, held his rank. This man was Captain Sean Stacey, and the ship he captained was called the HMS Calvary.

The ship broke through the waves with ease as it cruised forward, its sailors keeping close eye out for their target. There were reports of White Fang pirate ships hunting cargo ships in the seas around them. As a sign of good faith to the Vale council and the other kingdoms, the Admiral sent a quarter of the joint-fleet out into the sea to protect the trade lanes. This is where the ship was now patrolling. The Calvary itself was a type 23-class Frigate of the Royal Navy, with a crew numbering at 185 crewmen and women. The ship sped along quickly as Captain Stacey stared out of the bridges windows, his bridge crew bustling about the bridge, each with their own duty. "Sir." Captain Stacey turned to see a young woman, no more than 24 by looks, standing in front of him. She wore a dark blue sailor uniform with her brown hair typed up into a pony tail, her blue eyes showed to the captain something that made him smile inside, a dedication to her country. "Port-side spotters have a vessel at 10'oclock." The sailor reported.

"Attempt to make contact with the ship, ask for identification." Captain Stacey ordered, the sailor saluting and quick heading back to her post.

Carl sat down in a booth in a small coffee shop in the middle of Vale, a small cup of tea sat on the table in front of him. His booth sat next to the large glass window that stared out onto the street. He looked outside with his chestnut brown eyes. People walked up and down the street on their normal routine. He was surprised everyone went back to normal even though an attack on their city was so recent. He turned back to stare at the cup of coffee on the table. He thought about all that he had left behind back on earth, he still had his mom and dad waiting for him back home. He remembered his sister, a bank accountant in Washington DC, telling him just before he was shipped off that she was 3 weeks pregnant. He felt saddened in knowing that the baby would grow up without knowing his uncle Carl.

His thoughts were cut off as he heard the tell-tale ding of the coffee shop door opening, turning to see another member of his squad, Tom, walk in. He wore a large, thick, blue coat with a pure black woolly hat. He turned in the direction of Carl and walked towards him, sitting down on the other side of the booth when he reached it. "Morning, are you alright?" Tom asked, taking off his hat to show his scruffy blonde hair.

"Yeah, just thinking about home." Carl said as he cupped his cup in his hand, lowering his head. Carl knew Tom's family. He was born into a family of 4 in Colorado. His mom and dad still lived in Tom's childhood home while his brother had moved to Vancouver, Canada. "Do you miss it?" Carl asked, Tom raising his right eye brow in confusion. "Home, I mean. Do you miss it?"

Tom stared blankly at the coffee table for a few seconds before giving his answer. "Yeah, I do. But we need to keep moving forward. If we can't get home, like most of the soldiers I've talked to have said, then we need to start making ourselves a new home." He looked up at Carl again, a mixture of sadness of wisdom in his eyes. "Don't forget the people of the past, but don't let them stop you, keep on living your life to your fullest."

For a few seconds neither of them talked. Thinking and digesting what Tom had just said. Carl was the one to break the silence. "That was the most philosophical I've ever seen you be." He smirked, a smile crossing his lips.

"Don't get used to it; it only happens once a year." Tom remarked, all the sadness seemed to evaporate from the pair as they laughed. A few seconds later a young waitress came over, she had short, red hair with small fox ears hiding amongst it. She introduced herself and asked to take Tom's order, a cup of coffee. She quickly walked off after getting her answer and the pair began to talk once again when she returned, she placed the coffee on the table and quickly walked off back towards the counter. When he opened the lid to drink the coffee he went bright red in embarrassment. Carl looked over to see, written in the froth, was 'Call me' and her phone number. Carl looked up at Tom and gave an evil smirk. Both turned towards the counter where three waitresses talked to each other, one being the one that served them. Carl turned back to Tom, who was still blushing.

"She's kind of cute, you should defiantly call her." Carl smirked, making Tom blush even harder.

"Umm…" Tom stuttered as he thought of the words to say. Thankfully, for him, someone distracted them from their convocation. However the distraction was one that was quite bad. The door was barged open and 3 men wearing black ski masks ran into the shop, pistols held in their hands.

"On the floor now!" One of them shouted, causing one of the waitresses that was serving a customer to shriek in fear. The pair watched as one of the men smacked the girl who had served them and gave Tom her phone number in the head. 'Really, who robs a coffee shop in the middle of the day and with ski masks none the less? These guys are idiots.' Carl thought one of them stood in front of their table, his pistol pointed at Carl.

"Hand over your money now!" The robber yelled as he held the gun closer to Carls face. Carl's eyes darted towards Tom, who stared at him for a second before nodding. Carl sighed as he went down to reach for his wallet, or so the robber thought anyway. Tom and Carl always had their pistols on them, for security reasons, and this was one of those situations.

Carl leaned his head right as he pulled out his pistol out under the table and firing it into the robber's knee. The robber screamed in pain as his gun went off, its bullet just missing Carls head. As the other two robbers looked towards their screaming comrade, Tom used this distraction to his full advantage as he pulled his pistol above the table and aimed it at one of the robbers. He fired and the bullet penetrated into the robbers shoulder, causing him to fall to the floor in pain. Tom then turned to face the last one and fired into him, hitting the man in the thigh. As the robber fell to the floor, Tom looked towards Carl and said a sentence Carl never thought he would have said in that situation.

"I'll think I'll take her up on her offer and phone her."

Cinder sat in a large conference-type room. On the table in front of her was a large map of the kingdoms. Around her Adam and Roman stood, waiting for orders. "How are we doing on supporters?" She asked, looking up towards Adam.

"We've got most of the Faunus population on our side but some still won't join." Adam stated, his mask covering his eyes.

"Roman, how are we doing on our supplies?" Her focus quickly changed to the cane-wielding man.

"We've got enough supplies to start all this off with a bang." He smirked.

"Good, good… let's start phase 4…" With a smile. She stood to her full height and looked at the two, an evil smirk on her face.

Keith splashed water onto his face from the sink, his black hair becoming soft. He looked up to the mirror in front of him, large purple bags sat under his sky blue eyes. He sighed as someone knocked on the door. "Sir, you are needed at the headmaster's office." He heard Nick state. He grasped the towel that hung from the sink and wiped his face down, before leaving with Nick. As the pair walked out of the dorm building's main entrance, Keith's curiosity hit him at the scene he was watching. Many, if not all, of the troops that had been left behind had been mobilized and were now moving into positions around the campus. "I don't know what's happening but I've been told the headmasters got our answer for us." Nick explained as the pair began to walk towards the main building.

When the pair arrived in the headmaster's office, he found the rest of his squad, along with Lieutenant Colonel Frank Clay, sitting or standing in the room. "What's going on?" Keith asked, giving a quick salute to the Colonel.

"I've mobilized all the troops within this school into defensive positions." The Colonel stated. Keith opened his mouth to ask why but Professor Ozpin intervened.

"We have reports of a large White Fang force heading towards the school." Ozpin explained. "We do not have the troops or defences to hold the school from an attack by them, so I ask the Colonel for assistance."

"How can the White Fang have a force already? They lost way too many troops in their attack on Vale." Maddie asked, her question was already in a lot of the squad's minds.

"We believe this is their back-up plan because that plan failed. They think we're weak from the attack." Colonel Clay stated. Suddenly, the elevator door opened and an American walked out and gave the Colonel a quick salute. They walked to the other side of the room for about a minute before the American saluted again and ran back into the elevator. "Scouts just came back; they have spotted zero signs of the Fang in the nearby area. Are you sure this information is correct?"

"I am positive." Ozpin stated.

"Fine, my men will prepare all the defences they can. Sergeant, take your squad and fine an area to defend." The Colonel ordered

"Sir!" The squad saluted.

Linda sat on her bunk on the USS Barrack Obama. This ship was huge! It was bigger than most of the air carriers that Atlas had. She looked around to see a group of sailors laughing as the walk past the door, causing her to smile. These people, all of them, had given her a new home, a new family. After she was conscripted into the fleet, she found she like her squad quite a lot. Apparently they were 'The best of the best' According to Upper-cut. Soon after she had joined the squad did she meet the last member of the squad she had not met yet. The man was called 'Phantom'. He seemed liked the others, but what caught her attention was the young girl that followed him around. When they had introduced themselves to each other the young girl had instantly taken a liking to her. The girl always tried to play with Linda, which made her smile every time.

"Knock, knock." She was pulled out of her thoughts to find Close-up standing in the doorway, his shoulder leaning on the door. "We got a mission briefing in 10 minutes, so come on." He nodded his head behind him before walking out, Linda quickly getting up to follow.

"You are all gathered here because we have a large problem." Admiral Stevenson stated, his face showing his seriousness.

"What's happening?" Phantom asked, leaning forward in his chair. The Admiral didn't reply, instead he picked up a TV remote and put it onto the news.

"Breaking news, the kingdom of Mistral has been plunged into civil war as a sudden and devastating attack by the White Fang and many other Pro Faunus radical groups. The capital city itself has already been taken by the White Fang and it seems the Mistral armed forces are in full retreat." A reporter stated as the news showed camera footage of a large White Fang all-out assault. "Hold on, yes. Breaking news, it appears that the White Fang have taken over the kingdom and have sent out a statement saying 'We, the Faunus you have treated so horribly, shall have it no more. We shall be the ones to inherit the world. We officially declare war on the Human population.' And after this stated it seems that large protests and riots have begun in the kingdom of Vacuo, that have not escalated to conflict but with all this happening at once, it seems history is to repeat itself."

"What did she mean at the end?" Angel asked his face pale in shock.

"He's talking about something that happened long ago." Linda said darkly, her eyes staring at the floor.

"Yes." Admiral Stevenson started. "I've placed all troops of high alert and to prepare for war. It seems that Remnants history is to repeat itself." The admiral sighed as he looked to the floor, he thought about what was going to happen to them all in the future. Hoping that the casualties will be low. But that never happened did it. And with this, Remnants history began to repeat.

The 2nd Human/ Faunus war had begun.
