So maybe it wasn't so bad anymore especially when she was now absolutely sure that Meredith didn't have a chance at getting Castle back and she walked into the kitchen after she had changed from her wet clothes with a mission to get a salad, but almost turned back when she saw her sitting at the kitchen table sipping on a glass of wine, but it was her house and she refused to let her deter her from getting her salad. She worked in silence until.
"How do you get everyone to love you so much?" Meredith asked so softly that Kate didn't hear it.
"Excuse me?" Kate turned around.
"Everyone loves you, Alexis loves you more than me. Martha adores you she never talked to me like she does to you, she didn't even like me. And Rick is more in love with you than I've ever seen someone love before, especially when he turned me down today."
"He did what?" Kate asked
"Today I tried to seduce him into having another top ten with me and he got mad and said no, he said he loves you too much and would never do anything to betray that love or trust, and he had this sparkle in his eye like it lights up his world to talk about you, I've never seen that look in his eyes and Alexis has it to everything is Kate this and Kate that, to the point that I think she hates me as her mother and it's like no one loves me or that my space is gone."
She was crying by then, and a part of Kate wanted to punch Meredith for trying to seduce Castle, while the other part actually sorry for her.
"I saw you and Rick in the pool and I realized that I actually want something like that, I want to be loved."
"You can have that love, if you would stop looking for rich people and just look for love, even if Rick was broke and didn't have anything I still would have married him because I love him."
She handed Meredith a tissue.
"And Alexis doesn't hate you she's angry, it's just that you don't talk to her as often as you should, if you were to call her, or text, send an e mail or even send a letter every two weeks or so and take the time to actually sit down and talk to here instead of taking her out to parties your relationship would be in a much better state."
Meredith stayed silent for a while as all of the information sunk in.
"Thank you for everything and I'm sorry for being such a stupid person and trying to sleep with Rick and I'll find a hotel tomorrow my flight is in three days, celebrating Rick's birthday is not my place anymore."
And a tiny part of Kate wanted to invite her to stay but she shut her mouth.
She went into the room and Rick was furiously typing on his laptop another chapter of his new book, he looked up when she walked into the room.
"Hey, I thought you wanted a salad." He said.
She walked up next to him closed the laptop and put it on the floor.
"I changed my mind on the salad right now I just want you." She kissed his neck.
"I love you." She whispered in his ear.

It was the day of the surprise party and the decorators had just arrived, Lanie, Jenny, Martha, Alexis and the boys were there.
Kate opened the door.
"You're still here?" Lanie asked shocked.
Kate lead them to the large closet.
"Stay here and don't move I'm working on getting him out."
He walked out just as she closed the door.
"So Kate what should we do seeing as my daughter is out with Ashley and his parents until my birthday dinner , your father took Becca and my mother is probably out with some guy.
Kate pretended to think for a while.
"How about shopping?" she suggested.
"Uh you hate shopping and I was thinking more along the lines of a repeat of this morning." Yea they were going to give her stress for that one.
"Or how about you take me shopping and I let you pay."
"Do I get to choose the shops?" He asked suggestively.
"Some."
His eyes lit up.
"Does this mean you're going to use your card now?"
"No." He crossed his arms.
"I don't get it why can't you use the card, I gave it to you."
"Look I am not fighting with you about this, right now and I am not in the mood to take my shirt off." Yep she would never live this down.
He helped her put on her coat as they walked out the door.
"Fine, but we're going in Victoria's Secrets first."
And, as soon as the closet doors opened.
"Is she nuts he gave her a card to spend money and she doesn't use it?" Lanie yelled.

Rick walked out with two more shopping bags to add to the ever growing collection.
"Are we done yet?" he whined.
Kate looked down at her watch.
"Nope but we can stop to get something to eat." She checked for any updates on her phone.
"But we went in all the stores."
"Nope we still have to hit the bath and body works store, perfume store and I need some work jackets and shoes."
"Kate you almost have our closet filled with the amount of stilettos and jackets you have." As much as he was whining he was enjoying watching his wife try on clothes and being able to buy things for her without her being conscious of the price.
"You also need some ties."
"What's wrong with my ties?" he asked defensively.
"Well you only have an orange, purple and blue one, since you allowed Becca to play with them and destroy them."
"Hey I didn't think that she would throw them in the sink and that they would land in the disposer."
She rolled her eyes.
"Either way you still need a few new ties, and I brought you here so you can choose your gift."
"My gift is in that pink bag." He said eyeing the Victoria Secret bag.

One hour later they were walking into the kid's store and Castle immediately got excited and wandered away to go look at the toys, giving Kate a moment to call Alexis.
"Aren't you guys finished yet?" She whispered a yell.
"No were still making some of the stuff, just give us another hour."
She looked at her husband who was looking at two different toys.
"In an hour we would have already maxed out the card."
"It's a platinum card it never maxes out."
Castle started walking towards her.
"I have to go bye."
"Who was that?" he asked curious ly.
"Alexis."
"Oh is everything alright?"
"Yea she was just asking what time to come home tonight."
"Okay, there's this really cool teddy bear with a night light and I want to get it for Becca."

Finally they got home at 5:30 and Kate unlocked the door.
"You know for a woman who doesn't like shopping you sure can shop."
Kate flipped the switch.
"SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled.
And a grin immediately came across his face.
"That's why you let me take you shopping so long you were stalling."
She shrugged her shoulder like it was no big deal and smiled.
"Happy birthday."
And Alexis smiled and came forward to hug him.

This was definitely his best birth day ever and he enjoyed every moment of the party, from Ryan and Esposito singing Karaoke, which he has a video for black mail, to Becca almost putting her face in the cake and ruining it and Kate having to grab her arms laughing all the way.
Yep maybe one year older wasn't such a bad thing.
