Kate zipped up the side of her boots and lifted her hair over her jacket and she picked up Becca, who was sitting playing with her toys she gave a slight noise that told her she didn't appreciate being disturbed. She had started with small words and pronunciations no mama or dada yet although it was still an early development for 9 months. One word was her favourite, and it drove Kate nuts when she used it'no'.
She put on Becca's hat and coat over her clothes, today was kind of cold and Kate put her in her stroller and Becca gave her the mini Beckett glare like everyone called it and they walked down to the car where she had the carseat already set up and the moment the baby realised where she was being put she grabbed Kate's hair and coat.
"Come on sweetie you have to go or else mommy is going to be late for work." Becca loosened her grip enough to stare at her mother.
"No!" she said in an irritated voice.
Kate rolled her eyes why did Rick have to go on that stupid book tour for six weeks.
She untangled the baby's small, soft hands from her hair and put her in the carseat.
"Nooooo!" Becca cried kicking up her legs, and suddenly she missed the days when all she could do was babble and chew on her fingers and Kate rolled her eyes when Becca gave her yet another glare.
"Don't give me that look." But all Becca did was look away stubbornly.
For the sake of her sanity their next child they had better had Castle's personality .She shook her head and loaded their bags and the stroller into the back of the car.
Kate loved car rides with Becca the vibrations of the motor and the air conditioning in the car always soothed her, so now Becca was curled into a ball as much as she could get in a carseat with her thumb in her mouth almost asleep, then Castle's face lit up on her phone and she put it on speaker and into the in car cell holder.
"Hey." He greeted in his usual chirpy voice. Gosh! She missed that voice.
"Hi, how are you?" she tried to make her voice like his.
He sighed "I miss you guys, Gina is making me go to all of these wild parties that last all night for publicity and I an exhausted and I just want to come home and sleep."
"Well, three are weeks gone only three more to go."
The phone was silent for a while her attempt to cheer him up probably didn't work.
"Hmmm, you say that like if it's a short time and that doesn't really make me feel better."
Just then Becca gave a loud squeal for attention.
"Hi, honey I didn't know you were there."
Kate pressed on the brakes and inwardly groaned at the insanely long line ahead of them.
"Well, Rebecca is on her way to grandpa's house, he volunteered to watch her for this week then Martha said she wants to take Rebecca to her studio next week."
"Oh no, she isn't going to demonstrate how to act giving birth, or use her for another scene, is she?"
Kate laughed remembering when they got to the studio early when Becca spent the day only to see Martha on the floor with their baby who had a large grin on her face, making a lot of noises.
"Becca seems to enjoy the visits to the studio so it's okay to send her."
And at least half hour of being stuck in traffic and talking to Rick she finally arrived at her dad's house.
"Okay Rick we'll hear you later, I'm sure Gina and Paula have probably sending out a search party for you by now."
The line was quiet for a while.
"Yea, I'm going to go tell them where I am, but please call me when you've finished dropping off Becca okay?"
"Rick don't you have work today?"
"Please, I just need to hear your voice some more." It was three weeks and the longest they had spoken on the phone was 15 minutes either she had something to do at work or he did and now, he just had to hear her voice.
"Okay, I'll call back."
Her father immediately came out to them and took her things from the car.
"Hey, dad." She greeted when she got out of the car."
"Hey, sweetie how are you."
"I'm okay."
"How's Rick enjoying the book signing?"
"He says it's going good but he misses us." He nodded his head.
"And do you?"
"Oh I miss him like crazy."

When she arrived at work, Lanie was there sitting at Castle's chair with a cup of coffee.
"Hi you must be the substitute Castle." Kate teased.
Lanie rolled her eyes. "I'm not trying to replace writer boy, but seeing that none of us have a case and nothing to do I taught we could catch up."
She accepted the coffee. "Well, I'm glad you're here."
They spoke until lunch then Lanie got called to a crime scene and Kate knew that the crime scene was probably going to be her collar so she readied herself for the phone call.
The victim was a 17 year old student Alia Simpsons, she was abused and then beaten to death with a baseball bat. When she got home she was going to pull Alexis in for a huge bear hug.
She ended up rushing out of the precinct at 8:24 after she lost track of time, now Becca would be cranky and would take forever to sleep her bedtime was 8:30. Rick was right she was too fast to fall back into her old routines.
"Hey dad I am so sorry I'm late I lost track of time. Where's Becca."
"Bathed, dressed and fast asleep." Kate couldn't help but hug him.
"Thanks dad you're the best."
"I know."
Becca really was out cold she didn't even know when Kate buckled her in.
"Katie, Becca was tugging on her ear a lot today I don't know whether or not she was playing but ear infections are on a rampage now."
Kate nodded her head. Lanie said Maximus had an ear infection a month ago and Esposito came out to work looking like sasquatch, and Rick wasn't even there how was she supposed to do this without him.
"Okay dad I'll check it out."

When she got home she put Becca down for her nap and Alexis was waiting for Paige they were having a sleep over to finish a project due the next day.
"Hey, Alexis you're still at home?" She walked to the refrigerator with the intention to get a yogurt."
"Mom No!" That is not a nutritious dinner
"It's Yoplait and only 110 calories."
"I'm sure you haven't eaten anything since this morning."
Kate pretended to look appalled.
"I'll have you know that I ate a granola bar this afternoon." It didn't make any sense trying to hide it because they both knew she was right.
Alexis took out some leftovers and put it into the microwave.
"There now Paige says she's outside, so I'm going to go, are you sure you don't want me to stay with you?"
"Yes I'm sure Alexis, now you go have a good time and finish your project okay and promise me you'll be safe.
And Alexis nodded her head and exited the house.
Kate didn't realize how exhausted she was until she sat down to eat so when she had finished dinner she read through the file one more time and went to bed.

She groaned and turned to look at the clock and the bright red lights hurt her eyes in the pitch black room, why was Becca crying at 3:43 in the morning she hadn't cried during the night since she was seven months.
She walked into the nursery where Becca was in her crib twisting and turning and pulling at her ear great her father was right she did have an ear infection. She picked up Becca and the baby's wails died down slightly she was warm which meant she had a temperature
She walked into her room in a panic when Becca had thrown up practically everything she ate. Kate went on google search to see if she needed to take her daughter to the emergency room.
She ended up giving her some baby ibuprofen and by 5 she was fast asleep on her parent's bed and Kate didn't have the heart to wake her so she put some pillows around the baby's sleeping form and then she allowed herself to fall back into her slumber.
The next day she called the doctor and they told her it was okay and that it should go away within 2 weeks but if it didn't stop by then she would have to bring her in so she could prescribe some antibiotics.
Rick almost took the first flight back to New York when Kate told him what had happened and she managed to convince him to stay in Pittsburgh.

Becca was asleep most of the day and Kate had taken the day off and was folding some of the laundry when the door opened, it was Martha and she was giving a gentleman a kiss that surely took him out of the friends zone.
She turned around with the biggest smile on her face and froze when she saw Kate making her face almost turn as pink as the gloves on her hands.
"Kate darling, you're here early."
"Yea I took the day off to be with Rebecca."
"Ah well I just finished the audition and I got the lead as Camille the wife of a businessman who is having an affair with the butler."
"Oh congratulations."
"Thank you."
"And what part did your friend get?" Anyone who made Martha Rodgers blush had to be special and this was payback for all the teasing she did whenever she caught her and Rick kissing when they were dating.
"Burt is the Butler."
"So you're having an affair with him on and off screen?"
"Actually yes I am, and it's a very good one."

Two weeks later Kate got home at one her dad said he would bring Becca home in time for dinner,
She went into the kitchen to get a bottle of water when she heard a noise Martha wasn't due to come home until night and Alexis was at school. Then something grabbed her waist she threw them to the ground and grabbed a knife.
"How is it that you could be so tiny and still get me beaten?"
"Rick?" she helped him up.
"The one and only."
"You weren't supposed to be back until next week."
"Well, I finished early and I caught the first flight out to surprise you."
"I bet Gina wasn't happy about that."
He took a step closer to her.
"No she was super angry, but I don't care I finished everything I was supposed to and I wanted to see my family."
Before she could tell him how sweet and brave he was he kissed her and she relaxed in his arms and allowed herself to enjoy the lips that she missed so much.
"I'm glad that you're back early but warn me next time you almost ended up with a knife in your stomach."
"I almost ended up with a broken back too, wow you really know how to throw a guy."
He put his hands on his back and stretched.
"Do you want a back rub?"
His face lit up, his plan had worked.
"Yes please."
"Come on."
They headed up the stairs to their room.
"You better had brought me back something."
"Don't I always."
