Well I hope you guys enjoy the chapter, thanks for all the great reviews. Oh and Spoiler, just because I'm changing up the story doesn't mean that Kate isn't going to get shot.
"Dad, are you sure you and Martha are going to be okay taking care of Becca for a whole week and a half?" Kate asked her dad as she handed Rick the last suitcase.
After three weeks of arguing and coin flipping both grandparents decided to spend the time together taking care of Becca.
"Katie we'll be fine there's two of us." Jim argued.
"Yea but Becca's so energetic and you guys aren't as fast as you used to be."
"Nonsense, Jim and I are very energetic you guys go enjoy yourselves, we'll take care of your tiny bundle." Martha announced as she came outside with Becca.
"Well that's it we're ready to go." Castle said giving Becca a kiss.
"Bye."
They watched as the couple drove off into the New York traffic.
"I hope they enjoy their selves, most of the times when Jo and I went on vacation without Katie we could never fully enjoy ourselves Jo was always worried about her and we would come back early."
"Oh that's not going to happen this time, Richard is so excited about this trip."
They finally entered the house.
The car ride was fairly quiet both wanting but still waiting for the other to say something, even though the fight was over thing was still awkward between them and she hated that maybe it was due to the fact that they desperately needed to talk.
Castle started it because if he didn't his wife sure as hell wasn't going to.
"You know we still need to talk, don't you?" He asked.
Kate bit her lip, she wanted to talk but something was holding her back.
"Can we talk about that when we get there?"
He sighed.
"Sure."
And just as he suspected then everything was still silent so he turned on the radio and turned it up, he needed something to distract his mind and he smiled inwardly when he heard the song playing and the smile came out when he found Kate mouthing the words.
"Wow, you remember the song?"
Did he really thing she could forget that song?
"Yea, Bryan Adams Barbra Streisand,' I Finally Found Someone.' It was our wedding song."
Castle looked at her but his thoughts were completely on that day.
"Oh dear she's finally down for a nap." Martha sighed plopping herself on the couch.
"I now understand why Katie was so worried, that girl is a ball of energy."
"Yep and she more than likely got that from her father."
"Actually Katie was unstoppable when she was a baby, she never sat still for over a minute." Jim stated.
They were silent.
"Jim, when are you going to tell Kate?" Martha asked turning seriously.
"Martha, soon but right now I just can't, I have to make sure it's secure."
"Jim, you've been dating her for a year it has to be secure by now."
He sighed, "Katie and I are finally getting back on our stable ground since what happened after her mother died, and right now I don't think she is ready for that."
There was a story about what he was talking about and if there was one thing Martha Rodgers loved was a story, and she was going to get it after Becca fell asleep for the night.
Kate chopped the fresh basil and gave it to Castle.
"So are you ready to talk yet?" he asked.
She took deep breath in. "Let's just get this over with."
"Okay so let's start with the card."
"The card?"
"Your credit card."
Kate rolled her eye. "What does this have to do with that?"
"We're going to get everything into the open."
"Fine."
He was glad that she had agreed.
"Why don't you use it?"
"Because I don't need to use it, as much as we are married I still get paid separately."
He rolled his eyes and stirred the sauce with a little more force than he needed to.
"You know what I think, I think you're afraid, you want to keep one foot out the door, if you accept my money you're putting that foot through the door."
"Rick, that is not true."
"Yes it is, after 3 years of being together you still don't want me to spend a lot of money on you, and it makes me feel like if I'm not a good provider."
She froze, not a good provider he made more than her whole years salary in one book.
"Rick, that's not how I intended to make you feel, so how are we going to solve this?"
"How about we save your money for emergencies and you use your card."
She sighed.
"Rick, fine but it doesn't mean I'm going to use it a lot and buy expensive things."
"That's okay with me."
Rick put the layers of pasta over the filling for dinner.
"So what's next?" Kate asked already dreading the answer.
"Your mother's case. You need to stop.
"Rick I'm not giving up on her."
"I'm not asking you to, just do it the right way, and stop putting yourself in harms way and most importantly stop leaving me in the dark Kate."
"I don't leave you in the dark." Kate argued.
"Oh really because if I didn't come by to bring you lunch and ask who Lockwood was were you going to tell me?"
She was silent, she had no answer to that the truth was that she wasn't going to tell him.
"I don't tell you because I know what you would say."
"What do I say, Kate?" he asked starting to show his anger a lot more than he was before.
"The same thing you always say. Drop the case Kate, You're going to get yourself killed over this Kate, Your mother wouldn't want you to do this." She answered mimicking his voice poorly.
"But it's true, look what happened with Dick Coonan or how they tried to torture Ryan and Esposito or do you prefer how Lockwood had a gun pointed to your head about to shoot while you were changing your bullets, if I wasn't there you'd be dead right now."
She could see the fear in his eyes as he pushed back tears.
"I can't loose you Kate, and if you keep running after that case they're going to kill you Kate."
"She's my mother." She barely whispered it but he heard it loud and clear.
"I know and I'm not telling you to stop, I'm just saying to let it go, when the time comes well get the person who killed her and we'll make them pay."
He couldn't tell her to stop with her mother's case, she would just ignore him and hide and do it and he needed her to tell him what was going on.
"Okay." she gave him a reassuring smile.
"I'll stop unless I find probable evidence and I won't leave you out of the loop." She agreed hoping that they could get on with their vacation.
"One more thing." He said.
"What?" What else could he possibly have for them to fight about.
"Your work hours. You work from 8am to 9pm and over, that,s not in your job description, your wok officially ends at 4 but you just get carried away."
"Rick that's my job, I can't not do it."
"I'm not telling you not to do your job I'm just saying to leave at the correct time, if you stay an hour later that's okay but no later than 5."
He was right, she did leave work to late.
"Sometimes I forget." she told him truthfully.
"Fine then I'll come for you."
"Why can't you just call?" she asked.
"I tried calling before and you say you're coming then you don't move and you don't come home until late."
"Okay fine you can pick me up, now is that it?"
"No."
"Great, what now?"
"I believe we have some making up to do."
Kate rolled her eyes.
"Later Rick right now I'm starving."
The next morning Kate woke up feeling pretty relaxed, no cold shoulder from Rick, no distractions and she felt the good kind of sore from last night, hey where was Rick?
She was about to get up but the door opened and Castle entered the room after successfully pushing open the door with his feet he was carrying a large tray with several plates of food.
"Hey, I made breakfast." He greeted
She helped him to settle the tray on the bed.
"I didn't know what you would want so I made a variety."
"No smorlettes right?" she asked.
"Hey you loved those."
"Yea when I was pregnant, now I wouldn't eat that thing to save my life."
Castle looked appalled.
"Well, our daughter would disagree with you."
Kate looked up from stacking her plate.
"You gave that thing to Becca?"
He mentally slapped himself for letting the information slip out.
"No." he lied.
"Rick!"
"Okay fine but I made it for myself and she was giving me that adorable look so I gave her a piece."
"Your daughter already has you whipped."
He wrapped his arms around her.
"You have me whipped too, Mrs Castle."
She smiled and straddled his hips.
"Oh really? show me."
He kissed her and the way things were going they were going to miss that trip to the beach that he had in mind, then again they could go later.
Then there was a loud ring and the both groaned and pulled apart.
"It's my dad I called to see how things were going last night."
He nodded and Kate answered the phone and the video chat came up, looks like he finally took the time to learn.
"Hey dad."
She smiled when she saw Martha come in with Becca.
"Hey sweetie."
"Look it's your mama." Martha said showing the baby the small screen.
Becca gave them a grin and buckled her lips blowing drool all over.
"Mama." Kate's head flew up and everything was silent.
"Oh my gosh did she just...?" Kate couldn't even finish her sentence.
"I think she did." Castle confirmed.
She didn't even realize the tears that were running down her face.
"Oh my gosh." Kate smiled before fussing over her daughter and they spent another half hour on the phone before Martha and Jim left stating that they were yet to eat breakfast.
"You want to see her don't you?" Castle asked knowingly Alexis had called him dada while he was in a meeting and he rushed out without saying a word to go see his little girl.
"How do you know?"
"Because I know you and experience."
She nodded her head.
"I just really want to see her right now, we can come back with her."
Castle kissed her forehead.
"Can we leave tomorrow, we have something to finish first."
Well that's it please follow and review.
