Ch. 23

Hermione was standing away from Thorin and most of the Dwarves; she heard Bilbo asking Thorin if he was seeing a ghost when she was being approached by the boatman, the one who snuck them into Lake Town. The man stopped a little ways from her and said,

The man stopped a little ways from her and said, "You're still as short as ever, Kitten."

This caused Hermione to gasped and turned around and gave the man a heated glare, "What did you say?"

The man smirked; just like the one that had called her Kitten, so many years ago. "You're not hearing things Hermione; it's me, Sirius," whispered the man.

Even though the man did not have Sirius' blue eyes, but he had his high cheek bones and the courage that he held within his eyes; the type that would have brought trouble wherever he had gone.

"Sirius," questioned Hermione, she could not believe her ears or her eyes that could see the ghostly similarities of the man that was Harry's Godfather.

The man gave a sad smile, "I see that you've found me; even though you were not even looking for me, why are you with these men and not with Harry?"

She glanced down with a sad look upon her face, "I was summoned here by Dumbledore; who is known as Gandalf here, who wanted me to help these men to win back their homelands."

"What homelands," Sirius asked with a growl.

Hermione glanced out one of the windows towards the mountain that was seen by the town; Sirius glanced out and gasped, "There is no way in bloody hell that can be; there is a dragon that lives within that mountain, and you're not going to release it."

It seemed that the dwarves had heard part of the conversation that Hermione and Sirius were having because Thorin had spoken up, "What's wrong about going to reclaim my homeland?"

Sirius glanced around and saw that most of the dwarves had dark aggravated looks upon their faces. "There is nothing wrong about reclaiming their homelands; I am for it, but you're not taking Hermione there!"

Hermione sighed, "Sirius; there is nothing you can do, I was sent here by Dumbledore to help them. I can walk away from them when we are so close in fulfilling our quest."

Sirius growled like the dog that he could change before, "These are no longer kids games; Kitten, you're not back at Hogwarts trying to save Harry's life here. You need to wake up to the real world, girl! You are going to get yourself killed!"

Thorin stepped in between the two of them and glare at the man known as Sirius, "You can't make her do something that she has already promised to help us. My Ava won't leave my people alone when she knows that we need her help."

Sirius smirked, seeing that something was going on with his Godson's friend and one of the little men before him, "I don't know who you are, but you don't know Hermione very well; I have known the girl since she was thirteen years old."

Kili spoke up, "This is my uncle; Thorin, son of the line of Durin. He is the King of Under the Mountain."

One of the little girls in the house asked, "Pa, what are they talking about?"

This caused Hermione to look around and saw two girls and a boy within the house; she glanced back at the man before her and whispered, "You have children?"

Sirius closed his eyes for a moment, "Yes Kitten; I have children now," then he glanced over towards his daughter and said, "Durin was a just king of the Dwarves; who long before the dragon that came to the mountain, if Thorin is the long line of sons after the just king, I would like to see him trying to regain such a mountain from said dragon. I only know one way to kill that monster and that is with the black arrow."

Balin chuckled, "There is no such thing anymore; there was a few black arrow back in the day, but missed its mark."

The boy cried out, "That's a lie; one of the arrow did hit its mark."

Dwalin grumbled, "It's just a story boy, nothing to get angry about."

Sirius had a look of anger within his eyes but chose not to act upon it, which surprised Hermione. "So; when will be the lot of you, be leaving?"

Thorin grumbled, "When we get our weapons."

Sirius went into action and went into the many hiding places that he had and brought out many tinkered weapons that he made, and brought them upon a table. "I know that these are not much, but they will do their jobs."

The Dwarves grumbled and through the offending makeshifts upon the table and walked away with hate within their eyes.

Some calling out, "These are worthless!"

"I wouldn't even scratch my own back with it."

Sirius had pointed out, "These are better than nothing," and went off to say that the best armor in town was at the town's armory.

Hermione felt sorry for Sirius; she knew that she was trying to help them, and also trying to keep her safe from the dragon. She was not in the mood to fight with him about what she knew was right; even though she was not doing it to help Harry anymore, her will to help others was not going to let up. She also did not believe in fate or destiny, but she believed in doing what's right, and being there for people that need you. She hated that Sirius would not understand that part of her; even though a part of her believed that he was only protecting the last person that he knows, who knew Harry.

She glanced her eyes towards Sirius and her lips moved for him to read, 'Keep an eye on your kids, they will be needing you the most.' Before she turned away from him and looked at the window; she knew that the Dwarves were planning to do something, once the sun had fallen from the horizon.

She barely heard Sirius talking to his son before he left the house.
