"Can I go home now?" Kate asked the doctor, she was stuck in a bed twenty four hours a day with limited amount of meals and nothing to do and she was ready to leave the hospital and never come back.
Kate was homesick and cranky, which was very unfortunate for the people around her especially the doctor.
"No Mrs Castle."
"Why not I am perfectly fine, I want to go home." She whined.
"Okay Mrs Castle, today we'll let you start walking again and if you're well enough you can go home tomorrow."
She gave the doctor a smile.
"Thank you."
When Castle returned to his wife's room he was surprised to see her laughing and smiling, when he left she was ready to shoot him and now she's giving him that smile that if they were at home he would kiss her.
"Hey Rick you're back." She greeted.
He handed her, the only coffee that the doctor allowed and the only coffee that she hated, decaf.
"So what's going on?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean you look more cheerful."
Her smile widened.
"Well the doctor said that we would get me on my feet today and if I looked well enough I could go home."
Of course, he honestly didn't want her to leave the hospital. Someone out there wanted her dead and that scared him.
It was almost twelve and Kate was starting to get antsy, finally the doctor came in telling her that she could start walking and he and Castle gently eased her off the bed and as soon her legs touched the floor she immediately held onto the bed and winced, urging the black spots clouding her mind to go away.
She could feel Castle's hand on her back.
"Mrs Castle are you okay?" The doctor as the burning pain subsided and her world stood still again.
"Yes." She managed to say through her teeth.
"Are you sure?" Her head snapped towards Castle with a glare, didn't he want her to go home?
"Don't worry Mrs Castle it's normal to have pain, it will leave with time." Kate let out a sigh of relief.
"So I can still leave tomorrow?"
"Yep, I'll start on the paperwork tonight, now keep moving for at least for an hour then I'll come back and check on you."
Then the doctor left the couple alone.
Kate started to walk up and down the corridor, her back bent and moving at a slow speed, with Castle walking next to her side the whole time. She paused and put a hand on her back and took deep breaths in and out.
"Kate are you sure you're ..." Castle began.
"Yes Richard I am fine, I can walk by my self so stop hovering over me and asking if I'm okay!" She snapped.
He rose his hands in defeat and walked off to a side watching her with a frustrated and concerned look on his face, And the spectators decided to make themselves known.
"Kate darling you're walking around now."
They discussed Kate's being released from the hospital, but neither were into the conversation, so the visitors left rather early.
"She's trying to build her walls up again." Jim started.
"What do you mean?" Martha asked feeling confused.
"When ever Katie is hurt, she puts up walls in attempt to keep everyone out of her life, she thinks it's easier to heal on her own... sometimes I think it's my fault that she's like that."
Martha rested her hand on his shoulder in attempt to comfort him.
"Then we won't let her we'll push just enough that we can break those walls, but not enough that we hurt her."
Jim nodded her head hoping that Kate would make it easy for them.
Finally the longest and most painful hour in her life was up was up and she laid back into the sweet feeling of the hospital bed immediately relaxing her body, the doctor said she was well enough to go home by the next day and she felt a lot happier.
"Hey Rick."
He looked up revealing his tired eyes, making her feel even guiltier than she did before.
"I'm sorry for snapping for you earlier, I was just frustrated because I was feeling home sick."
He gave her a smile and kissed her making her heart monitor beep a little faster and he grinned at her.
"You really do love me don't you?"
A slight blush rose to her cheeks and she gave him a small smile.
By the day after she was happy and relaxed the doctor came in with a bag and his notes.
"Alright Mr Castle I'm just going to tell you some rules and some abnormal things to look out for."
She didn't bother to listen to the doctor explain his rules about her being under strict bed arrest and not over exerting herself, she was just glad to get away from the clutches of the hospital.
She was dressed and ready to go by noon and she surprised both the doctor and Castle by allowing them to take her out by a wheel chair. Out side was extremely bright and noisy. The hospital was undergoing some construction work. He looked down at Kate whose grip was so strong on the wheel chair handles that her knuckles were white and he eyes were glued shut. It was at that moment that Castle realized how much her shooting was really affecting her.
Going home, she was happy to find that they were alone, at least no one decided to throw some welcome home party.
"Where is everyone?" She questioned.
"Well after telling everyone that a surprise party would be a bad idea, I managed to convince them to give you a day to get back to normal."
Kate stuck mostly to herself that day and had fallen asleep by 8 in the night and Castle decided to get some writing done he had spent 5 hours in the world of Rook and Nikki when he could hear crying from the master bedroom he rushed into the room and Kate was screaming twisting and turning and when she suddenly shot up he knew that she had hurt her side. He eased next to her and she looked at him her face and body soaked with sweat and tears.
"Kate it's okay, I'm here now." He gently wrapped his arms around her.
"Want to talk about it?"
She shook her head trying not to look at him, she couldn't say that it was nothing because she saw him, she just hoped that he wouldn't push her.
"No." she sniffed and wiped her tears.
"I just want you to lay her with me."
They snuggled into the sheet and soon Kate was fast asleep again.
She was building her walls again, but he would bring them back down again even if he had to take her to a therapist to help him do it.
