I know I'm horrible, but like I said in my other story, I've been admitted into the hospital for over two weeks now. But the doctor said I should be able to leave in two days :) so hopefully I can start updating frequently again. But If I can't please bare with me and know that I haven't abandon this fic, but it's because I have medical issues.

I know it's short but I hope you enjoyed it.

Castle sat stood on the front porch closely observing the woman laying on the blanket reading, she claimed that she was fine but her actions told him different and the wall that he carefully taken down piece by piece was back. She was avoiding him and he knew it she avoided spending too much time around him because of her fear that he would bring up the topic of her shooting. So when Jim and his mother volunteered to bring Becca and Alexis when summer started he was ecstatic, two weeks to get her wall down.

"Hey, What are you reading?" He asked sitting on the blanket in front of her.

"James Patterson's new book." She answered raising the hard backed book to show him.

"You know you're lucky I'm not a jealous husband, or else I would have considered this cheating."

Kate laughed at his joke and twiddled with the pages in the book.

"You know you can talk to me right Kate?... you don't have to keep everything close to the vest anymore, we're married..."

"Rick don't... not yet."

"Then when Kate it's been seven weeks, I think it's time enough to keep it to yourself it's time to talk now." She sat up and readjusted her summer dress.

"Well it's not your choice, You don't get to tell me when I am to talk about it, besides I'm fin... I'm over it."

"Oh really, then why do you jump every time you hear a noise?"

She opened her mouth to talk but closed it again.

"Or how about, the nightmares that you pretend you don't have or the fact that you're hiding from your friends and me."

"Well I'm sorry that I'm having a bit of trouble being normal after I was shot in the chest and almost died."

"I wish you would share that trouble with me." He pleaded guiding her to look him in the eyes.

"Look Rick I will talk to you, just let it be in my own time okay? I don't want to fight."

He sighed when she laid her head in his lap, her eyes already drooping with sleep.

"Okay Kate we'll talk about it later."

She kissed him.

"Thank you, do you want to go take a walk on the beach tonight?"

"You mean like when we used to date?"

"Yea I mean if you want to."

"Kate I would love to but only if you're sure you're up to it." He warned, knowing that she had a habit of pushing herself too hard.

"Rick the doctor already cleared me for sex and light yoga I think I can handle a walk on the beach." She was tired of him treating her like a porcelain doll and she was going to make sure he knew she wasn't going to break by the end of the night.

The day went by quicker than the others did, maybe it was because she had something to look forward to or maybe it was because she was finally starting to feel a bit better either way it was 8:00 and Castle came out of the kitchen with a basket.

"Rick what's in that?" She asked pointing to the basket he was holding.

"Just a snack and a bottle of wine, I figured we could eat something seeing that we barely had anything for dinner."

"Rick you are perfect, you know that."

"So I've been told, now let's go." He looped her hand with his and led her out of the house.

Their walk was silent as the wind blew their now tousled hair, each enjoying the other's company.

"Feeling okay?"

"I'm fine Rick." Her voice was slightly annoyed, but she smiled and led him to a spot on the beach rushing him to put down the blanket, and she pulled him to sit next to her as he pulled out the contents from the basket.

This was like their first date all over again, except now they were married, lived together and had a 1 year old baby going two in under three months.

Okay so maybe it wasn't like their first date.

"Lanie called earlier, she told me she would let go the fact that you're ignoring her if you go to the beach with her and everyone else next week Saturday, and your dad asked when would be a good time to invite you for dinner with Melissa."

She was silent, she wasn't ready to face everyone again especially not her father's girlfriend, the last thing she wanted was someone who she just met looking sorry for her.

"Fine next week we'll go back for the weekend then come back here, I'm not ready to leave yet."

If she didn't face them now then she would never, plus Lanie would kill her if she waited any longer.

"Thank you, because Lanie promised that if she doesn't see or hear you by next week she's coming after you." He warned.

"I figured she might.

The rest of the picnic was filled with laughter and other fun topics, Kate was going back to her original quirky attitude.

But it did surprise him when she slipped of her slippers and stood up.

"Race you to the water."

He watched as she took off running into the water not worrying about her camisole and shorts that were drenched and clinging to her body.

No wonder she told him to wear something comfortable.

"Castle are you coming or not?"

Her voice spurred him into action as he ran after her. He hadn't seen a grin like that on her face since before she got... No he couldn't think about that now, not when things were finally back to normal. They needed to talk about it but now wasn't the time.

"Stop thinking so hard and just kiss me already." He gave into her request and wrapped his arms around her waist careful not to touch the healing cut.

They pulled away from each other and Kate looked at him before wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I love you." He told her.

"I love you too."

When things got carried away they went back to the house not the least bit worried that they were soaking the custom Persian rugs both of them were just too wrapped up in the moment to care as he lead her through the house and into the bed room.

Things were finally getting better.
