Thirty- One: Buried Secrets
The last week at the farm had been, well…strange. What? how else can you explain the guys finding Bigfoot, freaking Bigfoot, in the woods and then bringing him back to the farmhouse since a bounty hunter was after him with a weird finger on the side of his hand.
But that was only the beginning. Bigfoot seemed to really like Donnie. Really like Donnie. And that was because…Bigfoot, was a woman.
Caitlin sighed as she tried to shake the thoughts of the past week away and walked outside with April. That whole freaking encounter, was just wayyy too weird.
''Alright April you ready?'' they had woke up early that morning, and April had asked her to help her some training with her powers and of course Caitlin said yes.
April nodded, ''ready.''
Caitlin had laid out a few things, a rock and some farm equipment she found in the shed. ''Okay see what you can lift with your powers.'' April nodded again and Caitlin took a step back.
She closed her eyes as she took a deep breath and try to use her powers on the rock first. She got it off the ground, but it ended up flying through a window.
''Keep trying April.'' April tried again this time focusing her powers on a rake. Again she got it up in the air but then she lost control again and the rake almost hit Raph.
''Ah! hey!''
''Sorry!'' April shouted as she let out a huff of frustration. ''This is hopeless! I'll never be able to control my powers!''
Caitlin walked up to her, ''April calm down. Remember what I told you, you need to relax and focus, don't try so hard. Control will come.'' And hopefully you won't loose control, like I have…
''Your'e right, I just…''
''Just relax, April. Do you wanna try again?''
''…Maybe later. Were supposed to clean up the farmhouse today.'' ''Oh yeah, I forgot.'' Leo walked out onto the porch and saw them ''hey you guys ready?''
''Yep we're coming Leo.'' The two girls headed to the farmhouse before April stopped Caitlin again. ''You really think I'll get ahold of my powers?''
Caitlin smiled, ''I know you will.''
*…*
Later, the turtles, Casey, April and Caitlin were standing in the middle of the living room.
''Everyone ready?''
''Casey Jones was born ready.'' Raph nodded as he twirled a pair of feather dusters, ''let's do this.'' The others grabbed their cleaning supplies and started cleaning the farmhouse. Ninja style.
Raph cleaned out the chimney, while Mikey used his kursiagama chain and cleaned the chandelier and Donnie cleaned the upstairs hallway trying to show off in front of April.
''Hey check me out April.'' But April didn't notice as she walked into the bathroom and Donnie sighed. Caitlin patted his shoulder as she walked by and went to help Leo clean the windows.
''Window cleaner on, window cleaner off, window cleaner on, window cleaner off.'' Caitlin laughed, ''really Leo?'' ''hey it makes cleaning the windows more fun.'' Caitlin rolled her eyes and started helping him clean.
But suddenly Mikey, who was now also cleaning the windows, fell off the stool he was standing on and fell down the stairs. ''Oh Mikey I just vacuumed!'' said Leo glaring at him. ''Yeah, well I'm about to mop the floor with him'' Raph said about to pound Mikey.
''Whoa Raph wait a minute…check it out'' everyone looked down as they saw a hidden trap door.
''A trap door? I didn't even know we had a basement'' said April. ''What do you suppose is down there?'' Leo asked. Mikey's eyes grew wide and hid behind Caitlin. ''Evil clown! evil clown!''
''Uh I doubt that Mikey.'' ''Only one way to find out.''
Raph took his sais and opened the door as they all stared down into the darkness. ''Uh who's going first?'' asked Donnie. They each looked at one another. ''Not it!''
Leo sighed, ''oh man.'' Caitlin handed him a flashlight and they followed him down the stairs into the darkness. They looked around until Caitlin's eyes grew wide. ''Um guys…''
Leo shone his flashlight and everyone gasped. ''The Kraang.''
''Whoa.''
''This is crazy…'' Raph nodded, ''it's impossible.''
''It can't be…''
''It's a Kraang stealth ship'' said Donnie. Casey grinned, ''wicked!''
''But how, how did they find us?'' April asked trying not to panic. ''I don't think they did,'' Donnie rubbed his finger across the ship revealing a layer of dust ''this ship looks like it's been buried here for years.''
''What the heck is a Kraang ship doing underneath my house?''
''I don't know…'' Caitlin rubbed her head trying to focus her powers, ''but I'm not so sure about this guys.''
They didn't answer as they ship made a beeping sound, and the door opened. ''Well there's only one way to find out, come on'' said Leo and walked in. The others followed and Leo handed his flashlight to Raph who shone it around, until he saw something. ''Guys…look''
Everyone turned around, and a strange looking tube with what looked like someone inside. ''Is that a person in there?'' Casey asked Donnie kneeled down next to it. ''Okay nobody touch anything, I repeat, nobody touch anything.''
Mikey backed away slowly, trying not to touch anything, but ended up hitting a button. ''Mikey!''
''Oops I promise not to touch anything starting now.'' The beeped as smoke came out and the tube opened. And the strange woman that was being kept inside, slowly opened her eyes as April stared at her shocked. ''Mom?''
Caitlin looked at her, ''mom?'' The woman tried to climb out of the tube almost falling, but Raph and Donnie caught her. ''Take it easy ma'am'' ''hold on.''
The woman stared at them shocked. ''Ah mutants!'' she pushed them away and tried to run, but she tripped and Casey caught her. ''Don't worry Mrs. O'Neil, these are good mutants, except for Donnie he's kind of jerk.''
''Hey!''
''Where am I? and how do you know my-'' Mrs. O'Neil turned around and saw April. ''April? but how? just a few days ago you were, were six years o-old…'' Mrs. O'Neil fainted and Casey caught her again and Caitlin caught April.
''Okay, this is really weird…''
*…*
As soon as April's mom woke up, April poured out some tea to help her relax, while Caitlin sat across from her staring at her, along with the turtles and April's mom was still uncomfortable around them.
''Here you go mom, just relax.'' ''Thank you April. I'm still a little shaky'' said April's mom taking a sip of her tea.
''I know this is hard to believe but, the Kraang ship has been here for years. It was your great grandfather who discovered it, he made the mistake of awakening the Kraang. They paid him back by experimenting on him, and his entire bloodline. They knew that we were the key to unlocking their precious mutagen we were guniea pigs.''
''Aw, guiena pigs are so cute!'' Mikey interrupted and Raph hit him, ''I told you not to be stupid you moron.''
April's mom ignored them and continued, ''After you were born, it was cleat that you were very special. We knew it was only a matter of time before the Kraang for you we escaped. Kirby fled with you to the city, while I was recaptured and put into stasis.''
Everyone was silent for a few minutes as April's mom story sunk in. ''All these years I-I never knew what happened to you. I never knew what to think, dad would never tell me.''
April's mom took her hand. ''Now you know and now we never have to be apart again. Where is Kirby anyway?''
''Kirby? oh he got turned into a wicked Kraang headed mutant'' Raph nudged him. ''You had to pull a Mikey'' ''ha, ha you pulled a Mikey!'' Mikey taunted.
Leo rolled his eyes, ''he's just kidding Mrs. O'Neil Kirby's just uh, on a safari in Puerto Rico, he won't be back for a while.''
''I'm just so glad to have my April back.'' April smiled and hugged her mom so happy to have her back as well. The turtles and Casey smiled, happy for April but Caitlin had a bad feeling about this, and Mikey could tell something wasn't right.
''Is it me, or does April's mom seem a little bit off?''
''Ha, your'e one to talk'' said Raph. Mikey looked at him, ''I'm serious dude, I got those ninja vibes. I don't trust her.''
Caitlin nodded as she sensed something was wrong. ''Your'e not the only one Mikey.''
*…*
Later that night, April and her mom were sitting outside on the swing looking up at the night sky. ''Remember how we used to sit out here in the summertime and look up at the stars?''
April sighed, ''like it was yesterday. But, so much has happened so much time has passed.''
April's mom brushed her hair back, ''and that's exactly what it is the past. Were together again.''
''Oh mom'' April said hugging her. ''We can start over, be a family again.'' ''If only dad were here.'' They both sat back on the swing hugging each other. Until Caitlin walked over to them.
''April can I talk to you for a minute?'' April's mom gave her a strange look, but April nodded ''I won't be long mom.'' She got up from the swing and followed April to a nearby tree.
''April, I think something is up with your mom.''
April frowned, ''what do you mean?'' ''I sense that, that there's something not right about her. I don't think she's your mom.''
April glared at her. ''How would you know?''
''April I-''
''No you don't understand! I thought she was gone Caitlin! and now I have her back! but you wouldn't understand that because your parents and your brother are gone!''
Caitlin stared at her, shocked and hurt. ''A-alright April I was just to help'' and she ran off back into the farmhouse.
April stared after her, feeling a little bad but she ignored it and went back to her mom but came to a shock as she saw Mikey attacking her.
April got in between them, ''Mikey what are you doing?!''
''Stay away from April, I'm warning you!'' April's mom screamed and ran back to the house. April glared at him, ''what the heck is wrong with you? have you lost your'e mind?''
April raced after her mom and Mikey tried to follow ''April wait! I can explain!''
''You and Caitlin stay away from my mom!'' and April slammed the door behind her. Mikey sighed and sat on the front step as Raph came out a minute later. Who grabbed him by his shell and took him to the barn where Leo, Donnie, and Casey were waiting.
He threw him into a chair and Donnie shone a light on him, ''Michaelangelo…you attacked April's mother?!''
''Mikey have you completely lost your shell?'' Raph said frowning at him. ''I don't trust her, she's all kinds of wrong you gotta believe me, Caitlin does.''
''Yeah but she didn't attack her,'' said Leo ''and oh just like the time when you said that tiny elves stole your nun chucks and replaced them with mozzarella sticks?''
''Yes.''
Raph rolled his eyes, ''or the time you and Ice Cream Kitty entered a breaking dancing contest?''
''Exactly!'' ''stop it Mikey,'' said Casey ''do you have any idea how much this means to April? If you ruin this for her-''
''Fine if you don't believe me I'll prove it.''
*…*
April's mom was back standing outside as April walked up to her. ''Mom? are you okay?'' ''I was just thinking about when we would pinnic in the woods by the stream.''
April smiled and hugged her, ''those are some of my favorite memories.'' April's mom smiled, ''we should go somewhere, just the two of us. Just drive off, leave these creatures behind. I don't trust them.''
''I-I can't do that.''
''Why not?''
''They're like family, they've always been there for me.'' April's mom scowled at her. ''I'm your mother, your family, not them. There just a bunch of freaks.'' April frowned as her mother walked off again.
Meanwhile, Mikey sat inside at the dining room table and let out a sigh. ''No one gets me, no one but you'' he said with a smile looking at Ice Cream Kitty who was sitting in a bowl. ''Meow.''
''Aw, see you are so cute I could eat you up, nom nom'' Mikey grabbed a bottle of wiped cream off the table and put a huge dollop of whipped cream on Ice Cream Kitty's head. With a cherry of course.
Suddenly, Ice Cream Kitty started hissing and meowing she could tell something wasn't right. Mikey looked out the window again and saw April's mom walking out towards the woods. ''You think I should follow her?'' Ice Cream Kitty hissed, ''my thoughts exactly.''
Mikey followed her out into the woods and couldn't believe his eyes. April's mom wasn't April's mom. But some kind of strange monster. ''Sweet mother of mutagen…''
He watched her from behind a rock, and saw her dumping mutagen into the stream. Mikey quickly acted and jumped out knocking the mutagen out of her hands.
''You foolish whelp.''
''Don't try flattering me.''
''You shouldn't have done that Michaelangelo'' she took out a pair of scissors. ''now you've made mother very angry.''
''I knew there was something wrong with you, you with for the Kraang.'' ''Yes, I will capture April O' Neil and take her to my masters.''
''Well mom, things are about to get a lot worse.'' He charged for her, but she stepped out of the way, ''what the?'' she then grabbed them and flung him into a tree. ''Ah! what are you really?'' April's ''mom'' stared at him before revealing her true form.
''Ah!''
*…*
Meanwhile, Donnie was working in the Kraang ship trying to figure out what they had done to April's mom. ''What up D?'' ''Ah!'' Donnie turned around and saw Mikey standing in the corner of the ship. And he looked strange. ''You scared me Mikey. And just looking over data from the cryo tubes computers some of these read outs, don't make sense. ''
Just then, April walked in. ''Donnie have you seen mom?''
''No what's up?''
''We sort of had a little argument earlier and now she's gone. Probably because Mikey freaked her out.''
''Don't worry April, I'm sure she's around I'll be up in one minute to help look for her'' said 'Mikey'.
''No thanks Mikey, I don't need your help'' April said glaring at him as she walked away.
Donnie sighed and looked back at his computer. ''Now let's see exactly what the Kraang did to April's mom.'' He typed a few things into the computer as his eyes grew wide. ''N-no it can't be she, she's not I gotta tell the others.''
He turned around, and came face to face with April's ''mom'' ''Hello Donnatello.'' ''Ah! what happened to Mikey?'' she pushed him to the ground and broke his computer.
''I gotta tell the others!'' but April's ''mom grabbed him before he could.''
*…*
''Caitlin come on talk to me.'' Leo sighed as he stood outside Caitlin's door. He saw her run into the house earlier crying and wanted to talk with her, but she slammed her door shutting him out.
He was exhausted, first both of them saying they don't trust April's mom, Mikey attacking her then disappearing, and now this.
He sighed and decided to leave her alone and went down to the basement to check on Donnie. He thought he heard screaming, and walked in as fast as he could. ''Hello? Mrs. O'Neil? mom?'' he saw Donnie standing looking over information from the Kraang.
''Hey Donnie you uh where's mom?'' ''no one's here but me.'' ''I could've sworn I saw her come in here.''
''Sorry Leo haven't seen her .'' Leo looked down and saw Donnie's broken laptop. Something's not right. ''Okay I guess I was mistaken.''
Suddenly, an attennae reached out, and knocked Leo down as his eyes widen. ''Gotta…move…'' he tried to make it back up the stairs but the creature lunged at him.
*…*
Raph was watching some sort of special on Tv when he heard Leo scream. ''What the heck?'' he raced down to the cellar and saw Leo on the ground. ''Leo! bro you ok?'' he helped down onto a chair.
''Mikey and Caitlin were right, April's mom really is a creature.'' ''What?'' Raph took out his sais, ''where is it?'' Leo stood up, ''here.''
Raph slowly turned around and his eyes widened as Leo suddenly grew tentacles and his eyes turned white.
Raph tried to attack it, but the creature grabbed his ankle and Raph cut off his tentacle. The creature screamed and Raph used a smoke bomb to escape.
*…*
Caitlin had heard a few screams and shouts coming from downstairs so she finally left her room and went downstairs to see what was happening.
''Raph?'' she saw Raph, standing at the top of the stairs to the cellar looking exhausted and scared. ''What's going on?''
''You and Mikey were right, April's mom is a creature.'' Caitlin looked at him, ''say what now?'' Raph grabbed her hand, ''come on we gotta warn the others.''
They raced outside where April and Casey were sitting on the swing. ''April! Casey!'' the two stood up as Raph and Caitlin raced up to them.
''Guys, what is it?''
''It's your mother, she's not-''
''We were right, she really is some kind of creature'' Caitlin spoke up. Raph nodded, ''and she's done something to the others.''
''No, no your'e wrong!'' April shouted, and Casey shook his head ''Come on Raph.''
''April!'' they turned and saw April's ''mom'' coming towards them. ''April I told you to pack your bags.''
''Stay back! what did you do to my brothers?''
''April. Now.''
''I said stay back! mom thing!"
Caitlin growled at her and took out her sword, ''don't you dare touch her.'' April pushed them out of the way, ''stop it guys! stop it right now''
April's ''mom'' snatched her hand. ''That's it, were leaving now!''
''What's going on?''
''I'm your mother!'' April screamed as the creature revealed her true form to her. Raph and Casey knocked her away and made sure April was okay.
Caitlin's eyes widened,''Uh guys…'' the three of them looked up and saw April's ''mom'' begin to change. She grew long tentacles, and had walked on four legs, had a long neck, and stood over them.
''…Holy crap!'' ''move!'' the four of them quickly raced to the barn and boarded up the doors. The creature banged on the door a few times. Before it grew quiet. Too quiet.
The creature knocked down the back of the barn making it's way in. It stared at them attacking them with it's tentacles as they tried to fight back.
''There's no stopping this thing!'' said Raph, ''she was frozen when we found her, maybe if freeze her again.'' Casey tried frying her with electricity, but that didn't work as the boys tried attack her again, but it didn't work as the creature took them into her body.
''No!'' Caitlin and April shouted, Caitlin tried attacking it again, but the creature grabbed her in it's tentacle. ''April!'' ''Caitlin!'' Caitlin struggled as the creature looked at April again. ''This isn't happening, it's not!''
''April we can be together, no more pain, no more sorrow…'' Caitlin screamed as the creature opened it's chest revealing Donnie, Mikey, and Leo.
''Join us, become one of us…'' the creature looked at Caitlin, ''and you have great power…you can be apart of our family to…''
''Join us, become one of us…'' The creature grabbed April, and Caitlin and April screamed combining their powers, destroying the creature.
The next thing they knew, they were both on the ground and the others were safe.
''Leo!'' Caitlin raced over to him, ''are you okay?''
''Ugh, I think I'll be okay.'' April walked over to Donnie, ''you okay?''
''Let me put it to you this way, I'm pretty sure I swallowed about fifteen pounds of slime.'' Mikey groaned, ugh I feel like if puke could puke, it would be us'' he said as he threw up.
Leo looked at Caitlin and April, ''thanks guys.'' Caitlin nodded and April looked at her, ''Caitlin about what I said earlier…''
''It's okay April, you were just mad, I understand.'' April smiled at her as Caitlin reached over and gave her a hug.
*…*
The turtles, Casey, April and Caitlin went back to the cellar where they found the creature as Donnie went over what they found.
''So when I downloaded the data from the Kraang's ship, I discovered the creature wasn't really April's mom it just had her memories.''
''So what was it?'' Raph asked.
''Some sort of early infiltration experiment that utilized a combination of Mrs. O'Neil's DNA and Kranng DNA. But it was too dangerous.''
''So the Kraang put it in a deep freeze. It all makes sense.'' Caitlin nodded, ''wow that's kind of creepy.''
Leo looked over at April who was sitting alone in the corner of the ship. ''Guys do we have to talk about this now?''
Casey walked over and sat next to her. ''April you okay?''
''Yeah it just feels like I've lost my family all over again. Even it really wasn't my mom. Maybe she really is gone forever. But, maybe she's still out there somewhere.''
''You can't give up hope, trust me on that'' Leo held out her hand and April took it. ''And you haven't lost your family,'' said Mikey ''and you haven't lost your family, cause we are your family.''
April smiled. ''And I wanna say to my bros…I was right! in your face!''
Caitlin smacked him, ''seriously Mikey, not now. Then again…ha! we were right!'' the others laughed.
Finally it seemed like everything was going to be ok. But not really. It seemed like the gang wasn't really going to catch a break.
