Morning came all too soon, and Rocky stared at his ceiling from where he laid on his bed. He hadn't slept for more than an hour at a time, his thoughts racing and spinning. Maia was the main focus, but Hannah and his possible child popped up on occasion.
God, what was he going to do? Maia was important to him, but he couldn't just leave Hannah alone and pregnant. It wouldn't be right, and Rocky refused to be one of those fathers who didn't give a shit about their children. He was better than that; he had morals. It didn't matter if Hannah was the biggest bitch in California. It took two to make a baby, and this was Rocky's way of stepping up and being responsible.
Now, if I can just get my heart to agree with my brain.
Releasing a heavy sigh, the tall brunette rolled onto his side. He didn't want to go to work today – Hell, he didn't want to do anything, let alone take Hannah to her doctor's appointment. He was allowed a sick day, right?
Knock, knock, knock!
Rocky groaned, burying his face further into the pillow. I guess not, he sourly thought.
"Rocky," Stormie called from the other side of the wooden barrier, "Wake up! Breakfast is almost ready. And don't forget about Hannah's appointment! You need to pick her up by nine-thirty."
"Yeah, okay," he grumbled just loud enough to make sure his mother heard him. "I'm up, thanks. I'll be down in a few."
"Good. Oh, and can you ask Riker to wake up Laura? The poor dear must be tired. She didn't respond when I knocked on her door."
Despite his current mood, a smirk twitched at the corners of his lips. Yeah, he was just positive Laura was 'too tired' to respond. Right. And it had nothing to do with the fact that Rocky knew that the tiny brunette was with Riker, in his bed, sleeping.
"Don't worry, Mom," he replied, feeling a little lighter now, "I'll make sure Riker gets the message."
"Thanks, Rocky."
When the sound of footsteps retreated, the tall brunette climbed out of bed to start his day. It wouldn't be good to tempt fate by fighting against the inevitable. One way or another, he was getting dressed and dealing with the day ahead. Dealing with Hannah.
Man, what I wouldn't give to crawl back into bed and pretend the rest of the world didn't exist… Or at least her.
SP*SP*SP
Under the comforter, Laura giggled as Riker trailed tickling kisses along her flat belly, her fingers digging into his shoulders. "Stop it," she quietly pleaded, stifling her laughter. "That tickles! Your mother is gonna know I'm in here if you keep that up, Riker."
"She'll only know if you make too much noise, Laura," he replied, grinning. Opening his mouth, he set his teeth against her side, lightly nipping the area. She jerked in response, her giggling cut off to make sure she didn't burst out laughing. Continuing his exploration of her most ticklish spots, his hands gripped her hips to prevent her from escaping.
Laura lightly slapped his shoulder. "Come on, quit it," she tried again. She just knew her face was red from exertion and trying to stop laughing. If anyone caught them, they would immediately think they'd been doing something naughty. She would be so embarrassed, whether that's what they'd been doing or not. It would be even worse if the Lynch matriarch burst in. Laura would never be able to face Stormie again.
Riker blew a raspberry on her stomach. "You have to be quiet, babe," he chuckled.
Knock, knock, knock!
The petite brunette stiffened underneath him, positive they'd been found out. When she tried to wiggle and squirm away from him, Riker pinned her wrists above her head, effectively trapping her, with one hand. Using his free hand, he flipped the comforter off until only their heads were exposed.
"What are you doing?" she hissed, mortified.
He gave her a patient smile, before calling out, "Yeah?"
Rocky's voice came through the door, "Dude, it's time to wake up! Mom said breakfast will be ready soon." Laura relaxed into the mattress, sighing in relief, before Rocky continued in a smug tone, "Oh, and Laura? You're lucky she thinks you're exhausted from your trip. She asked me to ask Riker to wake you up."
"Oh God," she said, closing her eyes. Well, better Rocky knows than Stormie, I guess.
Riker seemed more amused than anything. In a more chipper voice than necessary (at least, in Laura's opinion), he said, "Thanks, Rocky. We'll be down soon."
"Sure, bro. Whatever you say."
When the couple was sure Rocky was gone, Riker leaned down and pressed a kiss to Laura's forehead. She playfully pouted in response.
"This could have all been avoided if you had just let me go back to my room, Riker."
He smirked, pressing a kiss onto her lips this time. "Where's the fun in that, Laura?"
"... I hate you. I really, really hate you."
"Aw, that's too bad. I love you. I really, really love you."

Ross was sitting at the dining room table when Rydel bounced into view. Normally, her perkiness would be ignored, especially since Ross couldn't figure out how anyone could be so happy in the morning, but something about her sparkled and shone a little extra brightly. It made him look at her longer, wondering what could be different.
Soon, the blonde teen decided that it could only be one of two things: Rydel was excited about filming R5's first music video or she couldn't wait for her first date with Calum. Ross had a strong feeling it was the latter.
"Hey, what are you so happy about this morning?" he asked his only sister, inwardly smirking in amusement. She didn't need to say anything. It was written across her face, clear as day.
Rydel took a seat across from him, beaming. "What?" she replied, "I'm not allowed to be happy in the morning? Something wrong with that?"
"Something is wrong with that when it's barely eight-thirty."
"Well, that's your problem. Not mine."
Ross playfully rolled his eyes at her words. Then, with an innocent smile on his face, he said, "Oh, excuse me, then. I just thought you were excited about going on your first date with Calum tonight, that's all."
Her eyes widened in surprise. "How do you know about that?"
"I didn't. You just told me," he answered, laughing. Then, sincerely, he added, "I'm really happy for you, Rydel. I hope your date goes well."
Rydel's expression softened, her eyes glowing with happiness. "Thanks, Ross," she whispered. "I really want this to work out."
"It will. I have no doubt it will."
A few minutes later, the table was filled with the Lynch family, with Laura sitting between Rydel and Riker, along with Ratliff sitting near Rocky and Ross.
Laura nudged Rydel, gaining her attention immediately. "So, did you and Calum talk last night?" she inquired, keeping her voice low. She didn't want anyone overhearing their conversation in case Rydel didn't want everyone to know yet.
The bubbly blonde eagerly nodded. "Yeah," she answered, grinning, "we managed to talk about a lot of stuff." She bit her bottom lip to keep from squealing out loud. "He asked me out on a date – Tonight!"
"That's great, Delly! Do you know what you two will be doing?"
"It mostly depends on when the guys and I finish today," Rydel answered. "Calum said he'll pick me up here, but that's as far as we've planned. I'm so excited, Laura!"
Laura released a pleased laugh. "Believe me, I'm excited for you, too. You'll tell me all the details when you come back, right?"
"Of course."
The petite brunette suddenly gasped. "Oh, what are you planning to wear? How are you going to do your hair? What about shoes? And make-up?"
Rydel gave her friend a half-pleading, half-amused look. "As my best friend, you'll help me decide all of that, right? It's practically girl-code. And you're not allowed to break girl-code – It's more scared than the bro-code."
Ryland, who had remained quiet until then, muttered under his breath, "That's what you think. How I Met Your Mother likes to prove otherwise."
SP*SP*SP
Maia stared at her ceiling, wondering if getting up and dressed would be worth the trouble. She'd been invited to watch Ross and the others film their first official music video, but she didn't know if seeing Rocky was a good idea. He would be arriving late because he would be coming from a doctor's appointment with that girl. Hannah.
Also known as his ex-girlfriend.
His pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Releasing a heavy sigh, she turned onto her side. She wanted to pull the covers over her head, to hide from the world for a few days, maybe a few weeks, if not months. A year, at most. Yeah, she would be better prepared in a year.
But, by then, Rocky would be a father. Things would definitely change between him and Hannah, not to mention him and Maia. Too much was being left unsaid, and Maia knew she had to pull up her big-girl pants and face them. Face him.
She knew it wasn't his fault. It wasn't like he set out to get Hannah pregnant. It was an accident, and Rocky was aware that he would now have to face the consequences. He was being noble when other guys in the same situation would claim ignorance. He was taking responsibility. Besides, this all happened before he'd met Maia. Could she really blame him for something that happened before they had even been introduced?
Her brain understood, logically, but her heart was another matter. It felt splintered and raw, an open wound that needed time and a little bit of patience. The way the situation unfolded and Hannah's snippy personality didn't make things easier. Maia wished she never laid eyes on the poisonous young woman. She honestly couldn't fathom what Rocky ever saw in Hannah.
Okay, that's a lie, she silently confessed. Hannah had the pale blonde good-looks of a model. What guy wouldn't be interested in dating a girl like that? Maia had seen it before – a perfectly nice guy dating a perfectly nasty girl, and all because of her looks. It just didn't make sense to her. Why stay with someone who makes you miserable?
Laura is an actual model and she's one of the nicest people I know. Then again, Laura was one-of-a-kind, even Maia had to admit. Laura didn't have the stereotypical model behavior. She was modest and always so happy, so positive. She gave back to the community through various charities, and she was really smart. And kind. Maia had never once heard her friend make a bad comment about anyone, not even towards people who blatantly disliked her.
Now, if Rocky had gotten a girl like Laura pregnant, I think I would be more understanding of the situation, Maia concluded. She didn't know how that made sense, but it did, in a twisted way. If Hannah was a (genuine) sweetheart, things would be easier between everyone involved. It was that simple.
But that's not the case, so there's no point in thinking about it.
Sighing once more, the Australian actress sat up. The sheets were rumpled, indicating a sleepless night of tossing and turning, and she could imagine how awful and tangled her hair looked. It didn't matter – it fit her mood a little too perfectly. She wasn't really up to having company, but she felt too emotionally vulnerable being alone.
So, after stiffening her backbone, Maia got out of bed to get ready. If Hannah showed up, she would have to prepare for a horrid day filled with sneered comments and venomous put-downs, but…
Not being able to see Rocky would be worse.
SP*SP*SP
"I'm worried," Laura's soft words caught Ross's attention. Seated at the vanity table while he fixed his hair for the Loud music video, he looked at the petite brunette through the reflective glass. She didn't need to say more; he knew what she meant.
"I know," he said. "But we can't do anything about Maia and Rocky right now. We have to make sure Hannah doesn't trick Rocky into marrying her."
Laura sighed, arms crossed under her breasts. "You're right, but that doesn't make things easier to deal with." Giving her secret boyfriend a semi-pleading look, she asked, "Can't you think of a way to get Maia and Rocky back together, Ross?"
Standing, he easily enfolded her into his embrace, holding her close. "I'll do what I can," he promised, "but it's not going to be the top priority. The guys and I have to make sure we keep Rocky as busy as possible, like Neo suggested. It's going to take all of us, Laura."
"Right," she whispered. "And it's up to me and the other girls to talk to Maia. Do you think she's going to show up today?"
Ross thought about it for a few minutes. Then, "I hope so. I really hope so." Pressing a tender kiss to the crown of her head, he lightened his tone. "Hey, let's not worry about this, okay? We're supposed to be happy and excited about filming R5's first official music video. We can worry about everything else later."
Laura laughed quietly, knowing he was right. "Yeah, okay." She leaned back enough to see what he was wearing. She smiled, fingers trailing lightly over the black leather jacket. "You look nice – just like a rock star."
"Thank you, I know," he replied with false modesty. Popping his collar, he vainly glanced at himself in the mirror. "I do love looking at myself. I'm so handsome, I wonder how you keep your hands off of me."
"Simple: I walk away," she said, eyes sparkling with amusement. Her smile was more genuine, which was Ross's goal from the start.
Completely backing away until she was out of his reach, she said, "Like I'm going to do right now. I'll see you on the set." With a flirty wink, she was gone and Ross was once more by himself. He shook his head, amused. He should have seen that coming. Laura could be rather quick when she chose to be, especially when it came to teasing him (and, therefore, Riker as well).
However, it wasn't long before Calum walked into Ross's dressing room. While the scenes would be shot outside, Ross and the other band members were each given rooms in one of the buildings for privacy reasons, seeing as how fans could potentially wander onto the set. Of course, security had been assigned sections to watch, but no security system was completely fool-proof.
Besides, Ross wouldn't mind a repeat of his session with Laura during the Summer Beach Bash. He would need ample privacy for that.
"Hey, man," Calum greeted cheerfully, hands shoved into his pockets. His blue eyes gazed around the room before landing on his blonde counterpart again. "This is a cool room they gave you. Very cozy."
"Thanks." Ross smirked. "But I have a feeling you aren't here to compliment my dressing room."
Calum pointed an imperious finger in his direction. "Hey, this room could have feelings. Giving it compliments isn't a crime," he said, brows furrowed seriously. "It's the polite thing to do, Lynch, and don't you forget that."
The blonde rolled his eyes at the redhead's craziness. "Whatever you say, dude." He stopped questioning Calum's antics long before Austin & Ally was finished being filmed. A very long time before that. "Anyway, what's up?"
"Nothing much," Calum answered, shrugging casually. "Rydel invited me to watch you guys, so I decided to come." His voice lowered as he added, "And I'm worried about Maia and Rocky. I want to help in any way I can."
This was why Ross loved his friends and family so much: They supported each other, no matter what the situation was. The Lynch siblings were already forming ranks around Rocky to keep him away from his vicious ex, but their friends were also joining the cause without having to be asked or anything. They just came, simple as that. Ross couldn't ask for better people to be a part of his life, and he was sure Rocky felt the same way.
"I'm sure they'll appreciate the offer, especially Rocky," Ross said, smiling. "Right now, we're just waiting on Ryland to pack a bunch of stuff into Rocky's schedule, and the girls are working on Maia."
Calum nodded. "Yeah, Rydel was telling me a little of what was going on. That's why I came down, instead of waiting for her to finish for the day." A boyish grin touched his handsome, freckled face. "Did she tell you we're having our first date tonight?"
"She didn't have to. It was written all over her face."
The Canadian actor patted his own face theatrically. "I'm surprised it's not tattooed on mine," he remarked, only half playfully.
Ross chuckled. "Don't worry, bro. I'm sure everything will be fine." Taking a seat in front of the mirror, he asked, "So, what do you have planned, anyway? I swear I won't tell Rydel and ruin the surprise."
"Well, I was thinking of taking her to dinner and a movie, but it mostly depends on when you guys finish here."
"True." Pulling his phone out of his pocket, Ross checked the time. "Everything is supposed to be finished in a few days, but today we're starting a bit behind since Rocky had that doctor's appointment with Hannah." Her name still left a sour taste in his mouth.
Calum hummed in understanding. "That would be a problem," he conceded. He slapped a hand onto the younger man's shoulder in a supportive gesture. "Well, you guys will still rock it. I never once doubted that."
"Thanks. I appreciate that." Ross suddenly bounced to his feet, his energy spiking and blood pumping. "We better start heading to the first set. Rocky may be allowed to be late, but I'm not."
The redhead chuckled. "Let's go, then. I want to wish Rydel good luck, though I know she doesn't need it."
"Geez, you two are already acting like a couple," Ross said, rolling his eyes. But a smile twitched at the corners of his lips, knowing his sister and his close friend were finding a bit of happiness with each other. That's all Ross could ever ask for.

Laura sat on the table's edge while she played with the ends of Riker's striped shirt. With her knees separated, the blonde bassist easily fit between them, his leanly muscled body towering over her. His own hands were busily stroking her hair, his lips devouring hers like she was his last meal. Not that she minded.
Purring like a pleased kitten, she broke their kiss to stare dreamily at him. "If we keep this up, the director and the other crew members are gonna come looking for you," she said but seemed disinclined to let him go.
Riker chuckled huskily. "I'm not worried." Leaning down again, he captured her lips once more. Her sweet flavor burst on his tongue. He groaned. He'd never get tired of her, of this. The tiny brunette in his arms was too addicting.
He broke away a few minutes later, but couldn't seem to make the decision stick. He pressed his lips to hers again, then a second time, a third, and finally mumbled, "Think we have time for a quickie?"
"Didn't you get enough last night?" Laura giggled. Her hands, however, started to play with his belt, enticing his body to move closer. The wicked glint in her doe-like eyes were like a siren's call and Riker was her willing victim.
"Babe, I'd never get enough of you."
"You're so sweet," she cooed. Lightly patting his cheek with one hand, she added, "I think you deserve a reward for that, don't you?"
Intrigued, he raised his brow. "What did you have in mind?"
As her answer, she slid down from the table and kneeled in front of him. Her hands easily undid his pants, fingers eagerly reaching inside to touch and caress the hard, silky flesh of his cock. Riker groaned, pleased, his hands tangling in her hair to have an unobstructed view.
"Fuck. I love the way you think."
"I know." With that, Laura eagerly took him into her moist, warm cavern, sucking and licking the way she knew he loved. He released another groan, head tilting back, as he let the pleasure consume him.
"Yeah, babe. Just like that…"
SP*SP*SP
After the doctor's appointment, Rocky had to drive Hannah home, which was torture enough, but having to listen to her talk and complain about everything under the sun was getting damned old. Was she always like this? He couldn't remember how her voice started grating on his ears, but he was sure it was because, back then, he'd been blinded by her beauty and good, easy sex.
Yeah, that had to be why. Rocky couldn't imagine doing this to himself – willingly – for any other reason. Man, he'd been a real idiot. He was surprised his siblings hadn't tied him up and slapped some sense into him. At this moment, he wouldn't have even blamed them. Hell, he wanted to throw himself from his vehicle if it meant getting away from Hannah.
Thank God I have Maia. The thought crept up on him unexpectedly and, suddenly, Rocky felt depressed. He'd been doing a heroic job of not thinking about the cute Australian, but now his mind flooded memories of her into his brain. Her smile. Her laugh. The way her dark chocolate eyes sparkled when she looked at him. How she would roll said eyes when he did something silly, like she couldn't decide between being exasperated or amused.
But what really stood out was the way Maia made him feel like he hung the moon. Her expression would soften, eyes turning liquid, and her voice would caress him in ways that weren't sexual and manipulative, but warm and loving.
Rocky didn't need the words to know the truth: He loved Maia, and he knew she felt the same way about him.
But, thanks to the current situation, he didn't know if he'd be able to tell her how he felt. What if she didn't believe him? Or worse, what if she didn't love him anymore?
He frowned, hands gripping the steering wheel. Well, that was just too damned bad for her. He wasn't going to give up on Maia, period. He'd fight for every inch she'd give him, and he'd win her back. If they truly loved each other, they could work everything out and move on. For Rocky, there were no other alternatives. He was in it for the long-haul.
"… Are you even paying attention to me, Rocky?" Hannah's full-bitch-mode voice broke his concentration. He grit his teeth to keep from yelling as she continued, "I said, we need to think about buying baby stuff, like strollers and diapers and bottles, not to mention clothes. Lucky for you, I researched this one amazing high-end place that sells everything. Really, Rocky, you should be thanking me because, apparently, I seem to be the only one who cares about our future child. Anyway – that place I was telling you about? – all of the major A-list celebrities go there for their baby supplies. I want only the best and…"
Rocky mentally groaned. At this point, he didn't think he would survive the pregnancy. Throwing himself out of the car was looking better and better.

"Hey, Deacon," Ross greeted, fist-bumping R5's music producer. "It feels like I haven't seen you in weeks. What's up, man?"
Deacon was easily over six-feet tall, with the muscular build of a linebacker. However, his size was misleading. The older man was one of the nicest people Ross had ever met, and Deacon was incredibly talented when it came to composing music and creating different rhythms for the artists he worked with. Since Ross had only seen Deacon in the Hollywood Records studio, he sometimes forgot how intimidating Deacon could be in public. He was definitely one of those guys you didn't want to tangle with in a dark alley.
Deacon grinned at the blonde teen. "Ross," he greeted back. "You ready to do some actual work? I know you're used to just sitting around, writing and recording music, but you and the others are headed into the big leagues now."
Ross chuckled. "Hey, we're not that bad. Besides, it wasn't long ago we put on a killer performance at the Summer Beach Bash."
"I was able to watch most of it. Rydel did an amazing job, and Laura is definitely gonna make it to the top in no time."
"Damn right she is," Riker's voice cut in. Deacon and Ross turned, watching as the bassist and mentioned brunette approached, their arms around each other. Ross could tell from his brother's semi-flushed appearance that something had happened in his dressing room, but didn't comment. "She was awesome up there. The fans loved her."
Deacon turned his grin onto the couple. "I have no doubt about that." He gave a nod of respect to Laura. "You've got some killer pipes, Laura. Make sure you do more performances soon, alright?"
Her cheeks flushed with the compliment. "Thanks, Deacon," she replied. "Neo and I have been discussing more studio time. Knowing him, I'll practically be living there before long."
Having met the agent/manager at least twice by now, Deacon chuckled as he nodded in agreement.
Riker glanced around the set. "Hey, where are the others? We're starting soon, aren't we?" he inquired.
Ross answered, "I was with Calum not too long ago. He went to tell Rydel good luck." He playfully rolled his eyes at the last before continuing, "I know Rocky won't be here for another hour, at least, and Ratliff should be around somewhere. Not sure about Ryland, though."
Ratliff's voice suddenly broke in, "Did someone say my name?" And then he appeared as if he'd been there all along. "I was on my way here, but Kelly called, and, as I was walking, I saw Ryland talking to the director about something. He'll be here soon, from what I could tell."
Deacon nodded, his expression transforming into a more serious one. "Good. That means we're still on-schedule for today." Excusing himself from the small group, the older man walked off to speak with a few technical assistants.
Laura turned her attention onto R5's drummer. "Is Kelly coming down to watch with the rest of us?" she asked, curious. Due to certain circumstances, she didn't know Kelly as well as she would've liked, but that didn't mean Laura didn't consider Kelly a friend. Kelly made Ratliff happy, and that's all that mattered.
Ratliff frowned but quickly perked back up. "No, not today, at least. She has to work, but she promised she'd try to make it tomorrow."
"Well, I hope she does. She couldn't even come to Italy because of work, too. It feels like I haven't seen her in years," Laura said.
Riker gave his friend an awed look. "I don't know how you stand it, bro," he commented. "I mean, I can barely stand Laura being away for a day, but you and Kelly hardly see each other."
The drummer's expression softened. A small, fond smile appeared on his face as he said, "When it's right, you do whatever is necessary to make the relationship work. I don't like being away from her all the time – and I know she feels the same way – but we make the time we do have together count."
While Laura cooed over the sweet words, Ross stared directly at her, a tender smile forming on his face. He knew exactly what Ratliff meant – He would do anything and everything to make things work between himself and Laura. It didn't matter what sort of obstacles got in their way; Ross would overcome it. He loved Laura, and she loved him. There was no stronger emotion than love.
And it was that emotion that he hoped would bring Rocky and Maia back together again.

"So, are you ready for our date tonight?" Calum asked Rydel, who was finishing the last touches to her makeup. His hands were once more shoved into his pockets, hoping against hope that it would stop the trembling. He didn't know why that started – he'd been on his fair share of dates – but he had a feeling that it was because none of the girls were Rydel Mary Lynch. It was the only logical explanation. "Because, I mean, we can always cancel and go another night… Or, you know, pick a time that works better for you. I mean, I don't have a lot going on right–"
Rydel cut him off, amused and flattered that the redhead was so nervous around her. "Calum, don't worry," she soothed, turning to face him. She smiled sweetly. "Tonight is perfect for our first date. I can't wait to see what you have planned."
Calum grinned boyishly, his relief obvious. "Good. That's really good, actually. I think I have the perfect idea for what we're going to do."
"What are we going to do, anyway? You haven't said anything, and I want to make sure I dress appropriately."
He waved away her concerns. "Anything you wear will be fine, Rydel. You always look very nice – lovely, in fact."
Rydel felt her cheeks flush a little at his compliment. "Thanks," she mumbled, embarrassed. Staring down at the dress she wore for the music video, she said, "I think you also dress nicely, too, all the time."
It was Calum's turn for his cheeks to heat. "Thank you." Suddenly, he grinned widely. "It actually takes me hours to look this good, but I bet it only takes you a few seconds, if even that much time."
She giggled. She couldn't help it. Here was a handsome guy who threw compliments her way like they were nothing. How could any girl not get an ego boost from that? Then again, Calum had a way of making Rydel feel as though she was the only girl in his world. It gave her a head rush, in a good way. A very good way.
"Alright, you," she said, linking their arms like they'd done it millions of times, "let's go find the others. If you keep saying such flattering things to me, I might develop a complex."
"You?" he scoffed, holding the dressing room door open. "Develop a complex? Impossible." Then, with a cheeky grin, he added, "With your natural beauty, no one will even notice, anyway. They'd be too busy staring at you."
Again, Rydel giggled, hugging his arm closer. Maybe having her ego stroked wasn't such a bad thing, after all; Calum did it so perfectly.

An hour after they started filming, Ross found his opportunity to speak to Laura alone. Riker was distracted by something Ratliff was showing him on his iPhone, and Rydel and Calum were too busy whispering and flirting with each other to notice anyone else. This was the perfect time for Ross to make his move.
"Hey, Laura," he greeted casually. When she turned a sparkling smile onto him, his heart skipped a beat. How she could still affect him so strongly after all this time, he didn't know. But he wasn't going to fight it. "Can I ask you something? In private?"
"Sure, Ross." They moved further to the side, out of the way of the passing workers and assistants who swarmed around the set like bees. "What's up?" she asked.
Ross shoved his hands into his pockets, suddenly feeling a bit nervous. He shouldn't, though; this was Laura, and Laura loved him. Even before he'd started blackmailing her, they had always been able to talk about anything and everything. This time shouldn't be any different, especially since they were so much closer (in more than one way). He'd just treat the situation like when he'd asked Laura to be his first kiss – just go for it. It wasn't like he hadn't done this dozens of times before.
Except, unlike said other times, this one had a bit more pressure.
"Ross?" Laura asked, sounding concerned.
He took a deep breath, then took the plunge. "Do you want to go out on a date with me?"
Her doe-like eyes widened. "A date?"
"Yeah, a first date. With me." Ross ran a hand through his hair, effectively messing up the blonde tresses. He didn't care. This moment was more important. She was more important. "So, what do you say? Do you want to?" The suspense was a thread away from killing him. He could feel it, hovering over him, waiting to drop. How the hell did Riker do this the first time?
"But I thought we already had our first date?" The petite brunette seemed confused, but she didn't say no. Ross counted that as a win.
"We did," he said, then added, "But that was to mostly fix whatever happened between you and Riker. Now I want to take you out on a real first date. No distractions. No relationship problems to solve and save. Just us."
Laura's eyes began to sparkle with excitement. Ross could feel himself being able to breathe again. "Oh, that would be so amazing, Ross," she said, almost bouncing with happiness. "I'd love a do-over of our first date. We'll have so much fun!"
His shoulders slumped with relief, and his grin stretched easily across his face. "Good. That's great, actually. How about we wait until after the Loud video is done filming?"
"Sounds perfect! I can't wait."
"In the meantime, think of something you want to do. Okay? We'll do whatever you want, Laura."
Laura teased, "You better be careful about what you're offering, Ross. You could end up being mentally scarred."
A smirk touched his handsome features, eyes sparkling with the challenge. "I can take whatever you dish out, Marano. Bring it."
She laughed in pure delight. Then, jabbing a playful finger into his chest, she replied, "Oh, trust me. It's already been brought, Lynch."

Meanwhile, in the parking lot, Maia took a deep breath before she finally got out of her car and started making her way onto the set. Her plan had been to show up before Rocky got back from the doctor's, but she'd procrastinated out of sheer fear and nerves. What if that girl came with him? Maia liked to believe that she was a nice person, but Rocky's ex was hard to deal with, let alone pretend to tolerate. She may be an actress, but there were some things you just couldn't fake.
Now, however, the Australian was sure she'd run into Rocky as soon as she showed her face. It was inevitable.
And Maia was sure that the hiding places were limited.
But at least she'd have the others, especially Laura and Rydel, there. And Rocky. She may not know what she would say to him, but just seeing him would be good. Hopefully nothing too dramatic would happen.
Like finding out a bitchy ex-girlfriend came back, pregnant, and demanding the baby's father take responsibility by marrying her…
How many times could that possibly happen?
Maia straightened her shoulders, bracing herself for the upcoming meeting. She could do this, she told herself. She could do this. She was going inside. She was going to enjoy seeing her friends. She was going to have fun watching said friends record their first official music video. And if she and Rocky talked, that would be good. It was progress. She would rather face their problems head-on than–
"Maia?"
Rocky's voice froze the brunette where she stood. Her mind blanked, not able to process what just happened. Rocky? Rocky was here? In the parking lot? Where she was? How the heck did that happen? What were the odds?
"Maia? Are you okay?" Rocky's voice again, but Maia didn't turn around. She couldn't.
She was wrong. She wasn't ready for this. Wasn't ready to see him again. Not so soon.
Before she realized what she was doing, her legs were pumping, eyes blurred with suppressed tears, clothes flapping in the breeze. She was running away. From Rocky. From the guy she swore was her future. She ran.
A tear slipped down her cheek.
I'm so stupid…
SP*SP*SP
Rocky watched as Maia ran away from him, his heart a heavy weight in his chest. It wasn't like he could stop her; she obviously wanted to get as far from him as possible. He wasn't going to force his company onto her if she didn't want it. She needed more time. He got it. He understood.
But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. Because it did. A lot.
Rubbing the nape of his neck, the tall brunette slowly made his way to the set, releasing a deep sigh. He needed to be patient. Maia was upset. Who could blame her? He (possibly) got another girl pregnant and said girl wasn't making the situation any more bearable. If anything, Hannah was making things worse.
Heck, Rocky found it a miracle that Maia hadn't dumped him yet. Other girls wouldn't have been so understanding, but Maia was processing everything and waiting to see what would happen. He could only hope she thought their relationship could overcome this; that they were worth fighting for.
"–I know, but you're always working. Can't you take off for one day?"
Ratliff's voice caught Rocky's attention. Glancing around, he found R5's drummer leaning against a wall, his phone pressed tightly to his ear as he quietly argued with whoever was on the other end. From the subject, Rocky could only assume Ratliff was talking to Kelly.
He cringed. Aside from Riker and Laura, if Ratliff and Kelly were having problems, what hope did other couples have? None, that's what. The latter two had been together since they were both in high school. And the former? Rocky was just waiting for them to announce being engaged, if not married already.
"Yes, I know your job is important to you, but what about me? What about us?" Ratliff's voice drew Rocky's attention again. "I don't get it, Kelly. All I'm asking for is a day – one day – to show you around the set. It's R5's first official music video! I thought you'd be happy for me…"
Rocky knew he shouldn't be eavesdropping, considering the subject matter, but he couldn't bring himself to leave. If Ratliff needed him for anything, he'd jump right in, like how the drummer had done when Rocky explained his situation with Hannah and the baby. Ratliff hadn't shied away from the news, no matter how bad it got. No, he inserted himself and offered his help. Rocky could do no less.
Ratliff released a heavy sigh, the fingers of his free hand raking through his hair. "Look, how about we continue this later? I have to go back to the set soon… Yeah, okay. I'll call you afterwards. We'll meet up and talk. Bye, Kelly. Love you." He hung up, another sigh escaping him. "Not what I need right now…"
Rocky decided he should make his presence known. "Hey, man. Everything okay?"
The other brunette's head snapped up, eyes slightly wide in surprise. "Rocky?" he questioned. He calmed in the next second, his usual smile falling into place. It made Rocky wonder how often Ratliff had hid his true feelings, but it was a thought to explore later. "Hey, man. Wasn't expecting you so soon. How was the doctor's appointment?"
He didn't know whether if he should press the issue or ignore it for now. Thinking that Ratliff would say something when he was ready, Rocky answered, "It went okay, I guess. It was having to deal with Hannah when we were alone that made me wanna rip my hair out." Or fling himself out of a moving vehicle, but eh. It went without saying.
Ratliff nodded in understanding. "If it's any consolation, I saw Maia just pass through here not too long ago." He thrust a thumb in the direction the others must have been in. "She was in a big rush, though. I don't know why, but maybe you should talk to her?"
The scene in the parking lot came crashing back. Rocky sighed. How many did that make today? Three? Five? And it was barely past noon, if that.
"I'm the reason she was rushing. I saw her in the parking lot, called out, but she didn't turn around. She just bolted. I'm pretty sure that means she doesn't want to talk to me."
"Yet," the drummer said, offering a small smile. "She doesn't want to talk to you, yet. She'll come around, Rocky. Just gotta be patient."
Rocky released another sigh. "Right. Gotta be patient. I can do that."

As soon as Maia arrived, Laura and Rydel surrounded her, like a protective blanket. The Australian actress was obviously upset about something, but didn't seem willing to talk at that moment. Instead, the other two led her away from the guys and towards the table set up with snacks and drinks.
Laura handed Maia a bottle of water. "Here, Maia. Drink this. You don't look so good. What happened?"
"Are you okay?" Rydel put in, concerned.
Maia shook her head. Breaking the cap seal, she sipped her water before speaking. Her voice came out a low whisper, and Laura and Rydel had to lean forward to catch every single word.
"I thought I was ready to face Rocky, which is why I came down. I just wanted to see him, you know? Because it would be better than not seeing him at all today. But…"
Laura gently encouraged, "But?"
The taller brunette wiped a tear off her cheek, embarrassed and mad at herself for crying. "But I ran the first moment I could from him," she admitted, still feeling stupid for doing that. "I hadn't meant to. It just… happened. I've been calling myself all kinds of stupid since then."
Rydel laid a reassuring hand on Maia's shoulder. "I'm sure Rocky understands," she tried to reason. "I mean, he knows you're having a hard time. I'm sure he doesn't blame you for taking off like that, Maia."
Miserable, the Australian actress nodded. "I hope you're right, Rydel," she said. Tears welled within her eyes once more. "I don't want him to think I hate him or anything. It's not his fault – I know that." Sighing, she added, "It's my heart that doesn't want to, the stubborn thing."
"Things will start looking up before you know it," Laura said, a small smile on her face. Inspiration struck in the next moment. "Hey, why don't you stop by the house tomorrow, Maia? The guys gave Rydel a song for her birthday. Want to come listen to it?"
"It's really good and catchy," the blonde keyboardist chimed in.
Maia bit her bottom lip. "I don't know, you guys…"
"If it helps," Laura hesitated, unsure, "Rocky won't be there. He'll be busy doing some stuff for Ryland." Not that Rocky knew yet, but still. It wasn't like Laura lied, right? Not to Maia, anyway.
Maia discreetly glanced in the direction the guys were in, noticing that Rocky and Ratliff had joined them. Her heart squeezed in her chest. What was she going to do? She wanted to talk to Rocky, but she didn't know what to say. What are you going to do about Hannah and the baby? Does this mean they have to break up? Was he planning to marry the other young woman? Did he still want to be with Maia?
Too many questions and not enough answers.
Sighing, she finally answered, "I don't know. I'll think about it. Okay?"
Laura and Rydel exchanged concerned glances, but both muttered, "Alright." It wasn't like they could force the other young woman to do what they wanted, after all. Maia had to be the one who ultimately chose what to do. It was her life that was turning upside down. All Laura and Rydel could do was hope for the best and support her decision.
Even if it meant Maia and Rocky breaking up…

Rocky cringed as he looked over the schedule Ryland had just sent through his phone. Was the youngest Lynch sibling trying to kill him? As if dealing with Hannah wasn't enough to throw Rocky over the deep end…
"Hey, what do you have there?" Ross asked, innocently, though he had a feeling he knew what it was. Ryland's timing couldn't be more perfect. Everyone else would have to throw that guy a party or something when this was all over – He worked fast.
The tall brunette didn't bother raising his eyes from the screen, finger scrolling through what he was reading. "Ry just sent me a shit load of stuff I need to do – And it's not just for the music video. Apparently, mom switched the chores, so I'm stuck with most of the errands."
"Really?" To make the act look good, Riker grabbed his own phone and started looking through his 'schedule.' "I see what you mean. I guess someone from the Glee studio called the house phone when they couldn't reach me. I have rehearsal with Darren and the others."
It wasn't a complete lie – Practice was going to take place after Loud was finished being filmed. But Rocky didn't need to know that.
Rocky sighed, before finally glancing at Ross. "What about you, Ross?"
"Since Riker is going to be out – and you're going to be stuck with errands – I guess I'm doing dishes and trash duty," the blonde easily answered, shrugging. Truthfully, those two chores were going to be split between he and Riker (as well as cleaning the bathrooms), while straightening and cleaning the house were left to Rydel, Laura, and Ryland.
Resigned, the guitar player nodded. "Well, I guess this means I won't have to see Hannah, at least," he said, trying to brighten his mood. But it also means I can't see Maia either. If she even wanted to see him, that is.
Sympathetically, Ratliff patted him on the shoulder. The drummer knew exactly what Rocky was thinking. "That's the spirit, bro," he said, trying to brighten his friend's mood. "Think of the positives. I'm sure everything will be fine."
He just hoped he hadn't lied to his friend.

With Rocky now present, the filming went faster, although Deacon had to ask Laura to stand-in for the girl who was supposed to play Ross's 'love interest.' She had to leave early due to a family emergency, which was understandable, and Laura didn't mind. The scenes weren't close to romantic, like the ones from Austin & Ally. If anything, they were just flirty.
Besides, the whole point of the video was to have fun, as Deacon had pointed out throughout the day. They were a big group of friends, hanging out and having the night of their lives. There was nothing explicit about that.
And if Riker sent his girlfriend glances every so often, Laura would playfully wrinkle her nose at him before sauntering off to hang off of Ratliff's arm or goof around somewhere with Rydel. Rocky and Ross, meanwhile, would laugh at their oldest brother's expense.
After witnessing Riker literally chase Laura and Rydel around the set during a small break, Rocky's mirth subsided as his chocolate gaze wandered to the sidelines. Maia (and Calum) stood there, watching. Rocky gave her a small wave with an equally small smile.
His heart skipped beat when she returned the gesture, her dark eyes soft.
Maybe there was hope for them after all…

"And that's a wrap for today," Deacon exclaimed, waving a hand to emphasis his words. "Good job, everyone! We'll see you all bright and early tomorrow."
Laura playfully shoved Ross away from her personal space, grinning when he mock-pouted in return.
"Dude," he protested, holding his arm where she'd shoved him like she had given him a grievous wound.
She stuck her tongue out in response. Without saying a word, she skipped off to find Rydel. Laura did, however, release a tiny squeal when Ross tried to snag her around the waist to haul her back, but she managed to dodge at the last second.
"Nice try, Ross," she laughed, doe-like eyes sparkling in the dimming sunlight. "You gotta be quicker than that!"
From behind the petite brunette, Ratliff grinned widely as he suddenly snaked his arms around Laura, trapping her against his leanly muscled frame. "Who needs to be quick when you just need some teamwork?" he teased.
"That's cheating!" Laura gasped, eyes wide in surprise, but still laughing. She did her best to wiggle out of her friend's hold, but his grip was secure. "Ratliff, no fair!"
"All's fair in love and war, Laura," Ross taunted smugly. He crossed his arms over his chest, like a conquering lord, and trailed his eyes over the 'captive.' "Now, what should we do with you, I wonder? Shoving me away like that deems some sort of punishment."
Ratliff's eyes twinkled in delight. "Tickle torture?"
"You wouldn't!" Laura played along, gasping the words out in horror. "Please, anything but that!"
The blonde teen rubbed his chin, as if contemplating the words. "Hmm, no. That doesn't sound like a good enough punishment for the crime committed against me," he slowly said. His chocolate eyes gleamed with pure devilment. "I know. We'll watch the entire Harry Potter series – without her."
Her jaw dropped. "Merciless fiends!"
"Uh," Riker's voice suddenly cut in, "what are you guys doing?"
The trio turned in the direction of the bassist's voice, all blinking innocently, though Ratliff kept his arms wrapped around Laura from behind.
"Nothing?" they replied as one.
"Yeah," he drawled, dryly. "Somehow I don't believe any of you."
Laura suddenly burst out, "They're planning on watching the entire Harry Potter series without me." She poked her bottom lip out in a pout, while making her eyes appear glassy to enhance the puppy-dog eyes. The look clearly stated, 'Don't let them get away with it, Riker!'
Her boyfriend, however, stared at her for a second before beaming brightly at his younger brother and good friend. "Oh, is that all? Okay then. I'm just gonna go now and change. See you in a little while." With that, he turned around and walked away.
"Traitor!" the petite brunette yelled after his retreating figure.
The only response she received were two loud, full-belly laughs from Ratliff and Ross.
SP*SP*SP
After Ratliff finally released her and he and Ross wandered away to change out of their Loud outfits, Laura was still pouting as she sat in Rydel's dressing room. As far as she knew, Calum had caught up with the other guys, while Maia had mysteriously vanished. Laura hoped it meant the Australian actress and Rocky were somewhere talking, but it didn't seem likely under the circumstances.
Wanting to keep things light, however, the petite brunette stopped sulking as she turned her attention onto her best blonde (female) friend.
"So, are you ready for tonight?"
Rydel stood in front of a mirror, checking her outfit from every angle possible. Her eyes, however, kept straying to her bangs, which she fiddled with every five seconds. Finally, she took a deep breath before releasing it in a long sigh.
"Is it normal to be this nervous about a date?" she asked instead of answering.
Laura smiled softly. "It's your first date, Delly, with an amazing guy like Calum. I would be worried if you weren't nervous," she said, chuckling. "But I'm sure everything will be fine. Just be your awesome self, like usual."
Rydel smiled at the encouraging advice and words. "Yeah, you're right. Thanks, Laura."
"No problem. What are best friends for, right?"
Knock, knock!
A grin immediately spread on the pretty blonde's face. "That must be Calum," she softly squealed, her mood instantly perking up and banishing any leftover nerves.
"I'll get the door and be on my way, then," Laura replied, grinning, before standing up to do as she said. Opening the door, her grin widened if possible as she gazed at her redheaded friend. "Looking sharp, there, Calum."
"Why, thank you, Miss Marano," he playfully responded. "Is Rydel ready?"
"She's all yours." With that, Laura exited the scene, vaguely hearing Calum's compliment of, 'I told you that you always appear lovely,' before rounding a corner. After the last few days, all she wanted to do was lay down and sleep for a few weeks, if not months.
However, she knew she couldn't relax just yet. She had to figure out what was going on with Maia and Rocky, as well as deal with Hannah and the pregnancy. On top of that, she had her music career; now was the perfect time to keep climbing the ladder of the industry. Modeling and acting jobs were probably also piling up.
I'm going to be busy for a while, she thought. But a smile stretched across her lips. She couldn't wait to tackle all of the challenges ahead.
However, Laura didn't foresee the first challenge to be what happened later that night…
Sorry about the super long wait! Was dealing with a bunch of final exams, then a summer babysitting job XP Hope you enjoyed this chapter, and there's definitely more Laura/Ross moments coming your way (:
Also, I've noticed that the links on my profile haven't been working :P I'll try to fix the problem but, if I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, I'll just post the website to direct everyone to the outfits I made (: Hopefully, that will work!
Don't forget to review, please! (: It would be much appreciated, and please, please, please no flames! :P Thank you!
