So sorry for taken so long in getting this up but I have written 6 different final chapters for this and I was not happy with any of them, so I stated this one a week ago and tada I am finished and I am happy with this, so I hope you will be to.
Chapter 40 -
The ships docked in Berk and the villagers came to greet their chief and those who went with him but no one left the boats.
"Hiccup, you ready?" Stoick asked his son, who was sat on seat below deck on one of the boats.
"About as a ready as a Terrible Terror waiting to fight a Night Fury" Hiccup joked sarcastically.
"Guys, go out there and let me talk to him" Astrid told Stoick and the teens, who nodded and agreed. As they had left to face the crowd Astrid turned to Hiccup and pulled his head up to look at her,
"You listen to me Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, you are ready for anything, You befriended a Night Fury, you outsmarted an entire village with your performance in dragon training, you left here and became the heir of a new island, you became the best dragon master ever, you won the tournament of the heirs, you changed our minds of dragons, you saved my life, you defeated a traitor and..."
Astrid then sat on his lap and put her head to his and looked deep into his eyes, "You stole my heart" She passionately kissed him. Time seemingly stood still during their brief moment and then they broke the kiss, "And you've always claimed mine" Hiccup replied pecking her on the lips.
Astrid got off his lap and held her hand out, Hiccup accepted her hand and got up and looked into her eyes, "Now I'm ready" He smiled and pecked her lips again.
Stoick and the others excluding Hiccup and Astrid, also excluding Valka (Who had lead the dragons to the woods to hide until it was safe) had emerged from below deck on one of the boats and received a huge cheer and applause front the villagers, but Stoick quickly raised his hand to request silence to which the village complied.
"It was quite an adventure, our visit to Scale Island, mostly surprising but also enlightening, we learned many things and we have also had our eyes open to reality for you see, on Scale Island we found a piece of the past that we all wanted to forget, but it turns out that it was the missing piece to our lives..."
Stoick looked behind him and saw Hiccup and Astrid coming up from below deck, Stoick then turned back to the crowd, "It turns out all we needed was a little more of this..." Stoick gestured to somerhing behind him.
The villagers saw someone approaching from behind Stoick, the figure that the chief was referencing to also had its hand connected to another figures hand, suddenly the crowd gasped at the sight before them as they saw who the figure was.
"Thanks dad, but you just gestured to all of me" Hiccup laughed nervously as he faced his old village who wore the look of shock.
"IT'S THE TRAITOR, GET HIM!" Yelled one of the villagers, which was met by a roar of approval, as they drew their weapons.
Astrid then jumped off the boat and held her axe in hand, "Anyone who wants to get to him, will have to through me" Astrid yelled, causing the crowd to gasp in disbelief.
Astrid father stepped forward crowd, "Astrid Hofferson, you put that axe away now, and get over here!" He ordered, but Astrid shook her head, "No Dad, I'm protecting the one I love, I'll take you all on to protect him." Astrid explained.
The twins the jumped down and stood either side of Astrid and had their spears ready. Fishlegs soon joined them with his mace.
Snotlout looked around and saw his father, their eyes met and Spitelout shook his head at his son, as if to say don't you dare. But Snotlout shook his head and jumped down and joined the rest with his Hammer ready.
Stoick suddenly burst in front of everyone and immediately raised his hands for silence, "There will be no fighting between anyone, now you lot (Points at Astrid and the others) stand down, and the rest of you allow us, or rather Hiccup explain" He commanded, the villagers started to mutter among themselves, "Now! or you'll have to deal with me!" Stoick yelled which made the villagers to jump and drop their weapons.
Stoick nodded his approval, Stoick then turned to Hiccup and gestured him to come forward, Hiccup nodded and broke through the others to walk to his father, Astrid suddenly grabbed his hand and walked with him, and the other followed them from behind, none of them were willing to let Hiccup face the villagers alone.
They stood infront of Stoick who moved to Hiccup's side and patted his shoulder, Hiccup's sighed ready for a long explanation.
"Ok, well... I guess we all know how I left so I'll skip that part, (The villagers nodded, some frowned at the memory) So anyway me and Toothless the Night Fury flew around for a while and we came across this island, it was an abandoned village, so we landed to rest. We went to the great hall and once inside discovered the village was as abandoned as we first thought, for you see I found my Mother" Hiccup and Stoick smiled, Spitelout walked forward. "Your Mother? That's impossible, Stoick how can you let him stand there and say he found Valka, we all know she..."
"Died"
A voice shouted from the side of the crowd and everyone turned to the location of the voice and shock hit them. "It's...a Ghost" One villager said, "The gods have cursed us" Another said. Valka walked calmly to Stoick and Hiccup, who smiled at her.
She then stood between Hiccup and Stoick, "I am no ghost I am as alive as all of you, so please let Hiccup continue" Valka said calmly, and the villagers said and did nothing, and Valka nodded at Hiccup.
"So as I was saying, I found my Mother, who was not killed by dragons the night she was taken away, in fact she was taken to a sanctuary that was full of dragons, she befriended all of them and was kept safe there. Until I mad man attacked the sanctuary and had the Dragon that kept it safe killed, she and her dragon Cloudjumper escaped and were taken to the village.
So after I met my Mother, we talked about everything and me and Toothless decided to live there, but soon it got a bit lonely so, I went a searched for any other islands and found a village being burnt to the ground and that is where I found my new brother and sister, who I will introduce later.
But then a little bit later I found 3 other guys, all my age they were called Seth and Darius. "
Hiccup did not want to mention the last person but knew he had to otherwise the question would be asked.
"And Drago"
The villagers could tell something had happened between Hiccup and this Drago, they could tell by the way Hiccup said his name, his voice was full of venom and hate.
"They then trained their own dragons and we became known as the Scale Riders and we protected our village.
Soon we rebuilt the village and others began to live there and we lived in peace, until my mother decided to enter the Tournament of the Heirs, and being the heir of Scale Island I had to compete.
Then to cut this short a bit other villages turned up and as your are aware so did Berk, and well I beat two heirs to win the tournament."
The villagers started laughing at the thought of Hiccup winning.
"It's true, My son won and I am proud of him" Stoick yelled, which shocked the villagers.
Spotlout stood forward "So Snotlout who did you lose to?" He glared at his son who seemed unfazed.
"By the winner, Hiccup" Snotlout said proudly which shocked everyone.
"WHAT, YOUR TELLING ME, THAT FISHBONE BEAT YOU, IN A FIGHT!" Spitelout screamed and Snotlout stood back.
Hiccup spoke up, "With all due respect, Snotlout is one the toughest opponents I have ever faced, either one of us could have won, I just got lucky" Hiccup patted Snotlout on the shoulder, who in return patted Hiccup on the back.
"But then it all turned bad, Drago betrayed us and tried to control a violent storm called Helheim's Rage and he destroyed the village, he also scarred me for life. " Hiccup looked down, wincing at his words, Astrid hugged his arm and Valka rubbed the back of his head.
"Scarred you for life how?" Spitelout asked with a tone of disbelief.
Stoick felt rage build inside of him,"Spitelout, how dare you, you have no idea what Hiccup had been..." Stoick voice rose but was cut off by Hiccups hand.
"If I want them to accept and belive me, they need to know." Hiccup sighed as he began to unstrap his armour, Astrid helped him, Soon his upper armour was fully removed, The villagers gasped at the change in Hiccup's appearance and muscles.
Hiccup stepped forward and raised his arms wide and turned around. The crowd gasped at the sight of the black scales that covered his back in a straight line from the top of his spine and finished at the bottom of it.
"He ripped back open and shot a bolt from Helheim's Rage that hit the rip, it almost killed me.
"What do you mean almost kill you, that should have killed you" One of the villagers yelled in disbelief.
"Yes, it should have, and it would have it wasn't for Toothless" Hiccup smiled as he faced the crowd again.
Toothless was listening on the edge of the village and heard his name and bounded toward Hiccup excitingly.
"Oh here we go" Hiccup laughed as he was suddenly tackled by Toothless.
The crowd gasped and began to rub towards the dragon to stop him from hurting anyone but we're shocked at what they saw.
Toothless started licking Hiccup , "Ah Toothless, that doesn't wash out, how many times do I have to tell you" Astrid and the other laughed at the dragon.
Hiccup got up and rubbed Toothless on the head, "I told you they are not what you think they are, I lived I'm peace with dragons for 2 years, and Toothless here is my Blood Brother, in that to save me he had to give his blood to give me partial healing abilities and then his discarded scales were attached to my back. But my blood also flows through him due to the contact he made with my blood, it almost killed him but our bond is too strong for death."
The villagers began to mutter, "How can we trust this boy and dragon" One asked, "Because your chief has one as well" Stoick announced as Skullcrusher landed infront of him and Stoick scratched his head.
"WHAT!" Spitelout yelled,
"Oh so do we by the way" Astrid smiled as Stormfly, the Nightmare, Gronkle and Zippleback landed by their riders.
"SNOTLOUT GET AWAY FROM THAT DEVIL!'" Spitelout ordered.
"No Dad, Hookfang will never hurt me, well much" Snotlout defied his father.
Hiccup got onto Toothless and looked to the crowd.
"You see, your future embraced change, even your chief has accepted change, dragons can live in peace and harmony, if your chief believes that we can live a better life here with dragons, are you willing to at least try?" Hiccup asked.
Stoick looked at his son with pride, he finally had a heir that he knew would lead Berk better that he has.
The villagers began among themselves, and Hiccup's smiled.
"Better make your decision quick because those dragons behind you, want to make some new friends" Hiccup laughed, the villagers turned around and saw multiple dragons looking at them, Spitelout stepped forward and looked at a Monstrous Nightmare that stood infront of him.
The Nightmare suddenly lunged forward and nuzzled Spitelout, who began shaking until he placed his hand on the Nightmares head and rubbed it, he hears the dragon purr and smiles and embraces the dragon.
The other villagers gasp and some even approach the other dragons with their hands out to touch the dragons, who themselves approached the vikings and touched their snouts to the outstretched hands.
All of a sudden all the vikings ran to a dragon and began to pet it, some were scratching heads, others were even hugging dragons, this made Hiccup smile.
Liza and Dyer suddenly ran out to Valka "What's going on?" The both asked, Valka without looking at them answered "Destiny"
Astrid pulled Hiccup down from Toothless, "So isn't their something else you might want to tell them, something such as a shocking love pairing" Astrid winked at them.
Hiccup looked at her and then looked to the villagers, he saw the others join them, Spitelout patting his sons shoulder, The other teens being embraced by their parents and Stoick shaking hands with multiple vikings.
Suddenly they all looked at Hiccup and Astrid, Hiccup smiled and turned to Astrid, "Eh let them work it out the themselves" Hiccup whispered as he pulled Astrid closer to him and locked his lips to hers, and she did the same.
The villagers cheered and laughed at the sight, some walked over to Hiccup to pat his shoulder or shake his hand, some even petted Toothless.
"Ok everyone to the great hall let's celebrate!" Stock announced and everyone cheered in agreeement.
Hiccup got onto Toothless and watched them walk to the great hall.
"This is Berk, for years I never considered it as home, but it seems to take one wild adventure to discover that no matter how long you leave for or in what way, part of your heart still stays there.
This is now and forever my home, and I will protect it with my life, and with Toothless by my side and the strength of this great village to keep me up, I will continue to protect this village for now and for ever more."
