WOAH! NUMBER 50. thank you to those who stuck with the first 25 shitty chapters. anyway, this is written for Beifong week. Read, review and enjoy.
The Beifong family was sitting next to the Zaofu sparring grounds, watching as Wing and Wei fought with each other. "Who do you think is going to win, Lin?"
"Wing. He's more focused than Wei."
"I don't know about that. What do you think mum?"
Toph flicked a piece of earwax onto the ground before answering. "Wing. Lin's right, he's more focused."
Wei stopped his attack after having enough of his family doubt him. "We can hear you talking!" As he turned back to face his brother, a boulder caught him in the chest, knocking him outside the ring.
"Looks like Lin and I were right, again."
"Ugh, why are you two always right?"
The two older Beifongs shrugged their shoulders, not in the mood for conversation. "Surely they haven't always been right?"
"Always Opal. They have never been wrong. They're practically the same person."
Toph and Lin both stood up at the same time to glare at Su. "We are not!" Mother and daughter 'looked' at each other in surprise.
"Well it's not my fault. Linny would never leave me alone. I can't help it if she picked up most of my traits."
Lin crossed her arms and pouted. "Gee, thanks. I'm sorry I wanted to spend time with you."
"Apology accepted. Besides Su, you're like me in some ways."
"Oh?" Su reclined back in her seat and propped her feet up on a little earth footstool she summoned. "Please do enlighten me to how we are similar."
"Well for starters you have half of my genes, and we're both great benders, obviously I'm better. You're smart like me. You are apparently pretty like me."
"More like 'I used to be.'"
"Shut up Lin. You also inherited my rebellious side. And you have to admit, that's one of my best traits."
"To you maybe. Wasn't exactly great for me."
"Lin, stop sulking."
Opal saw a small smile appear on her mother's face at watching her sister and mother interact and banter. "So grandma Toph, did mum and aunty Lin have anything in common growing up?"
"What, you mean like which was fatter? Or who was the better student?"
"Umm, sure?"
"Well, Lin was a surprisingly easy birth but she was really fat. Out of all the gaang's kids, she was the heavy weight champ. Even beat Bumi and he was huge! Your mother took forever to come out and she was the lightest. I used to call her my little airbender because she was so light."
Opal laughed at her grandmother's retelling of her mother's and aunts births. "So who was the youngest to start metalbending?"
"That was Lin by a landslide. I remember this chubby three year old, coming up to me with a book in her hand and demanding me to read her a bedtime story like all the other parents did. I tried to explain to her that I was blind but she didn't understand. She started screaming bloody murder and bending the earth around her. When I went to pick her up, she bended the meteorite bracelet on my arm."
"I don't remember that."
"I do. I still have the scar to prove it."
Lin's eyes widened in disbelief. "I gave you a scar? I never saw anything."
Toph raised her sleeve and removed the meteorite band to show her a faint, light scar. "Yep, you made it tighten around my arm and it broke the skin. I wanted to kill you. There you go Su, you share something in common with Lin. You both gave a family member a scar." The two sister's glared at their mother's comment. "Su on the other hand took her time. She was pretty chilled about bending but when she threw a tantrum, everyone got out of the way."
"Wow, I can't picture aunty Lin throwing a tantrum."
"Yeah, I think she only ever had one or two, thank the spirits. I have to say, my favourite memories of these kids were finding them kissing boys. After my first time catching Su, she started using seismic sense to make sure I was nowhere near her. Lin on the other hand was kissing a new guy every second week. I blame daddy issues."
Both Su and Opal looked to Lin for an explanation. "What? The boys at my school were really hot and so was I. I was too focused on making out with them to notice mum sneaking up on me. More than once she nearly gave the guy a heart attack."
"You never were one to be modest."
"I call it like I see it ugly."
Su glared at her sister, before tackling her to the ground. "Take it back!"
"Make me!"
"Were they always like this growing up?"
"Yes, yes they were. It didn't really help that Sokka and I were placing bets on who would surrender first."
The young airbender shook her head in amusement. "This family is unbelievable."
