House of Surprises
A reason why I didn't show you what the house was inside the chapter before, because I was too afraid of the consequences. Then again, I wrote this so you would be warned. I should probably let you do the reading.
Miya couldn't sleep the night before the said meeting. She stared at the ceiling with an air of excitement around her. I was rather afraid that when morning came, she would be sleep deprived and she'd be tired to go on the little trip to the house.
She didn't know why, nor did the others, but she felt a pang of curiosity when she had saw the house. As if it was waiting for her... and begging her to come in. The weirdest part was she actually felt that the house was welcoming her.
It was creepy, but comforting at the same time.
When morning came rolling in, Miya managed to sleep for a few hours. Her grandmother had to wake her up thrice so she could start her daily routine. She groggily took a bath, before remembering what today was.
"The house!" Miya claimed.
She excitedly finished her routines and walked out of her house, not without saying goodbye to her family. Tenma came out of the Kogorashi Manor, still somewhat sleepy. He bid Sasuke and Aki goodbye before joining with Miya.
Miya bit her lip as she skipped to her school.
Tenma laughed, "What got you so happy?"
"Just a little game!" Miya replied happily.
Tenma knew from experience that Miya loved games. He always teased her for it, thinking she'll be too competitive with others... looking back on it now, he was right. The Miya of today was competitive to others.
"What game? Can I join?"
Miya hesitated for a while, but replied, "I dunno. I guess I'll ask the others."
Tenma grinned. "All right!"
"Tenma! Miya-chan!" Tenma heard Shinsuke.
"Shinsuke!" Miya and Tenma claimed.
Shinsuke caught up with them. "Have you heard? There would be a soccer match in the field today!"
"Really?" Miya widened her eyes. "Who'll battle?"
"That's the best part! Endou-kantoku and his team from Raimon versus Kira-san and his team from Sun Garden!"
"EH?" Tenma and Miya shouted. It was rare to see Endou play, and even rarer to see him play soccer with the folks from Sun Garden. Tenma and Shinsuke quickened their pace and Miya had to make big steps to catch up with them.
"I can't believe this!" Shinsuke gushed as the three of them stop on the front of the field in Raimon.
"Tenma!" Shindou waved his hand.
"Shindou-san!" Tenma also waved. He nudged to Shinsuke and, together, they came rolling down the hill. Miya was also curious who would win the little match, so she decided to stay and have a look.
Once the match started, Miya was beyond excited. Both teams held so much power that neither one scored. As she watched longer, the more and more she was getting bored. No offense to the players, but Miya didn't like the tension in the air: as it was non-existent. Miya was about to go, when she realized she had company behind her back.
A crowd had formed during the match.
Miya forced her way through, but she had stopped midway when she heard a girl talking to her cellphone.
"Mistress, the girls are coming to the house today."
Sato groaned and pushed herself off the wall.
Impatiently, she walked down the street to find something to eat. She was starving, and school was about to start in a minute. She found herself in front of a store which sold warm drinks. Sato walked in and ordered a cup of hot chocolate.
Plopping herself to a seat, she brought out her phone and typed in a message to send to the local delinquent gang.
From: Okazaki
To: Frankie
I'm busy tonight.
Her phone immediately beeped, alerting her that Frankie had text back.
From: Frankie
means u cant come 2 da recruiting. u now that means auto explusion.
Sato rolled her eyes. Frankie couldn't spell properly even if his life depended on it- and it does. He got kicked out of school when he was young due to it. Of course, he didn't really mind... like most of the members in the gang.
The hot chocolate was served to Sato and she gratefully took a sip. Sato typed, 'I don't care' and quickly pressed send. The time on her phone said that it was ten minutes before the bell rings and she hurriedly drank the hot chocolate. She rushed out of the store and sped-walked to Raimon High, it was hell since she was wearing school shoes.
Luckily, though, she made it to her school on time. Yet, she was still going to be late for her first period, so Sato ran to her classroom. She found Eri hanging around the school corridors, but she ignored the glares Eri was obviously giving her.
Fei was astonished when he saw Sato panting by the door.
Chuckling, he approached Sato and put a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Sato. What's wrong?"
"I was late!" she blurted out.
"Late? For school? Geez, Sato, there's still twenty minutes before class!"
Sato widened her eyes and cussed silently. She glared at her phone and spat, "Why do you always have to have the wrong time?!"
Fei sighed and pulled Sato to her seat. "Let's go."
Yuzuki Melanie hated the heat.
She pursed her lips, but, other than that, showed no signs of irritation. Yuzuki, as most people would call, walked down the pedestrian lane with people chatting behind her back. But not about her, no. Her right silver eye darted to the couple behind her, looking bored at the conversation they were having.
"Did you know that this is the latest fashion?"
Yuzuki should have told her friends that she hated heat waves, that she couldn't buy the groceries. She wouldn't dare admit out loud, but she considered Kei and Sana as her friends, even if she found them annoying or irritating.
Yuzuki walked faster, but the afternoon heat wouldn't stop. In the end, she stopped at a waiting shed, trying to cool her body for a bit. Only one boy was inside the shed, and Yuzuki knew him.
"Shuu." Yuzuki acknowledged the said person.
"Ki-chan!" Shuu greeted happily. He came over and eyed her long black hair. He continued, "Your hair grew longer. It's past your waist now, Ki-chan! Man, I've been gone for a month, and look at you!"
Yuzuki should have blushed, nodded or even saying a 'thank you', but she stood still as a statue. A nod was the only thing Yuzuki gave Shuu. At this, Shuu sighed and helped her with the bags she was carrying.
"You're still quiet." Shuu observed.
"I simply have nothing to say." Yuzuki explained.
Shuu grinned, "Even so, let's head to the house!"
They did and, when they came back, it was pure chaos. Maids and butlers littered the room, cleaning stuff after stuff after stuff. Yuzuki hated crowds, but it was amusing to see people in uncomfortable clothes running around as if it was the end of the world.
"People! Let's move! Move! Move!" Yuzuki heard Sana over the noise. Yukio Sanada or Sana for short was standing on top of the staircase, barking orders at people. Even so, she still looked caring and childish.
Sana looked like an innocent child, even if she was already sixteen and always have scarring experiences. Her short brown hair bounced with every step, and her brown orbs would always widen when she finds something mysterious.
"Gee, I haven't seen the house this active in a long time!" Shuu grinned.
"True." Yuzuki replied, staring up at Sana. She was still barking orders, but she looked kind, something that encouraged the others to do their work seriously. It was something Yuzuki had envied, as most people would get scared at her emotionless face.
Yet Yuzuki hated getting in the crowd of people, so I guess she was happy at her position/reputation.
"What's gonna happen tonight?" Shuu hummed.
"Some visitors coming over. They're making a fuss over it."
"But doesn't that mean...?"
"The experiment's starting? Yes, yes it does." Yuzuki stated with no emotion at all. For Shuu, however, the experiment was a big deal to him. Shuu should have guessed earlier. Isn't that the reason why Hakuryuu was not home?
A maid passed by them, but not enough to keep the thoughts Shuu had out of his mind. But it was enough to see Yuzuki's hair shift and see her left flaming eye turn into slits.
Fei sighed as he waited for the seven girls.
It was nighttime and Kei was beside her, fidgeting her light green hair. It was the same color as Fei's, and maybe the same hair style too, if not for the straight bangs and Kei putting it in a low ponytail on her right. Her eyes were darker, being a mixture of green and brown, and Fei may have envied it since it was from their mom she had gotten it.
Kei glanced up at the moon, which was being covered by dark clouds.
Fei can only wait patiently, for the girls and for his friend.
Once they saw Tsurugi, along with Kurama, Nishiki, Kurumada and Hakuryuu, with girls behind their back, Fei and Kei opened the gate and walked inside the house.
The guests stood in front of the opened gate nervously.
Hakuryuu smiled softly and walked inside the house, saying: "I'll see you guys inside!"
Kai was the first to get out from shock. She walked up to the front porch and grinned at the guys, "I'll see you guys, too!"
That's when all chaos broke loose.
The floor that was holding Kai immediately broke into pieces and she fell down. Nishiki, being a good person, tried to save her, but got caught in a net and he was pulled out of sight. Kurama, Kurumada and Tsurugi ran after him, but also got caught by a rope and pulled them to who know where. The remaining girls fidgeted.
Sato sighed and put on a brave face, walking up to the porch step and avoiding the hole Kai made. She knocked on the door and was greeted by a calloused hand grabbing her wrist and dragging her in.
Eri looked at the girls. She said, "As much as I am curious at what's inside the house, I rather not."
She turned her heel, but Miya stopped her. She begged, "Wait! Let's go in together! This house... I have a feeling it's important... and that we're needed inside!"
Ai, Kari and Ru looked at each other. Ru was quivering, Kari was shivering and Ai was silently gulping.
Yet how Miya said it, it sounded sincere. Miya was confident they can should go inside the house. Confidence was something Eri did not ignore. So, Eri sighed, "If I get caught up in a fucking prank, I'm killing you."
Miya was unnerved. She broke into a grin, "That means you're coming with us inside the house!"
"Let's go, then," Kari stepped up.
It had surprised Ru and Ai, as they knew she was quiet... but, then again, she was loud when she's with her friends. Kari nodded to the door of the house, admitting, "I'm curious to see what it looks like."
"The house has written 'danger' all over it, in case you did not know," Ru said, rather sarcastically.
"More and more reason we should see what's inside it!" Miya encouraged.
Ai shook her head and spoke softly, "We shouldn't pry in other business. It was rather interesting at first, but it looks like the house doesn't want visitors."
Miya bit her lip and looked at the Eri, pleading her to do something. This was the girl that persuaded Eri, and stood up to her side. Eri pursed her lips and grabbed Ai's and Ru's wrists.
"We have to force you then." Eri gritted her teeth.
Kari nodded to Miya. "Should we go?"
Miya smiled, "Yeah."
When they walked to the porch and knocked on the door, they weren't greeted by calloused hands. They were greeted by Sana. She beamed at them, "Hey! Sorry for the disruption back then. Mistress loves chaos!"
"Mistress?" Miya asked.
"She loves chaos?" Eri rolled her eyes before saying, "What a douche."
Kari waved her hand. "Aren't you going to introduce yourself?"
Sana jumped happily. "Sure! My name's Yukio Sanada! Call me Sana! What about you guys?"
"I'm Miyazaki Miyako. Call me Miya~" Miya said.
"Fujisaki Hikari. Kari for short." Kari said.
"Kurokawa Erika." Eri sniffed.
"I'm Kira Ai." Ai said softly.
"Hyuuga Rukia." Ru supplied.
"Pleased to meet you, guys!" Sana giggled. She opened the door to the house.
The five girls went in and gasped at the large-looking interior of the house. It was like a mansion, but wan't it too big to fit in the simple two-storied house? It was surprising, but they were more surprised when they found their friends captive inside a large cauldron.
"Sana, are you planning to cook them?" Miya asked, half-terrified and half-amused.
"Nope! We just ran out of rope that's all." Sana smiled.
"O-oh..." Kari sweat dropped.
A gong sounded from a distance. Sana sighed, "Our time is cut short, so I'll see you guys. Looks like the mistress wants to see you!"
"Why?" Eri furrowed her eyebrows.
But Sana already stalked off.
A flash of lightning and the cauldron was cut into two.
