Sorry it's taken so long Guys, I've been swamped. But enough about me.
This one's quiet a long one, introducing a couple of new characters. Possibly one of my favourites :D
Enjoy!
They travelled for days. The constant walking was only ever interrupted by the occasional bowl of gruel, a quick lesson based on something like What to do if a darkspawn tries to eat your face, and a few hours sleep when it became too dark to see your sword.
Duncan had (Somewhere along the line) given Amelia a journal. You should write down your feelings about your current circumstances," he instructed her, "and reflect over them. It shall help you to find a way to cope with your confusion." As he turned to walk away, he was sure he had heard Amelia whisper, What a load of crap, but he chose to ignore it.
Amelia did jot down the odd entry here and there, but mostly it was filled with complaints about Duncan, Ferelden and everything else thus far.
After about a week, they finally reached Ostagar. It was a huge ruin of what was once a grand fort. Amelia, for once, found herself in slight awe at the place.
While she looked around, mouth wide open, Duncan had a thought. He abruptly stopped and turned to his new recruit. "Amelia," He said with a stern look as she stopped admiring the architecture and looked up to him. "we are now approaching Ostagar's main gate, but before we meet the other Wardens, there is something I must warn you of."
"Let me guess," she scoffed, "We've reached the boss level, and I have to fight a magical time-travelling dragon, who will reveal himself to be my father?"
Duncan was confused. This sort of thing must be a common occurrence in her time, he thought. "No. I must warn you of the people that exist here, that no longer seem to exist in your time period."
Amelia scrunched up her eyes and frowned with confusion as Duncan tried his best to explain mages, the circle, the chantry, elves (both of the city and of the dalish) and dwarves. It was a lot to take in.
She opened her mouth, ready to question almost everything she had just heard. But then she pondered why she should be surprised by this, but not the whole time travel thing? Her mouth slammed shut. "Okay...thanks?" she said, still unsure. Duncan gave a nod, and the group moved on.
Amelia thought hard as they met the great wooden gates. Her chain of thought was swiftly broken, however, when she saw their welcoming party.
A large group of people stood behind the gate. All of them were wearing the same heavy armour. All of them were caring the same sharp swords. All of them stood at attention behind one man, wearing glistening, glittering golden armour.
Amelia looked to Duncan for clarification, but he just stood there looking shocked, and then worried.
"Y-your Majesty!" he cried, "I didn't expect-"
"A royal welcome?" The king laughed.
She stared intensely at the king as he and Duncan spoke. Half studying him, half trying to think of what to say if he spoke to her. He was rather young to be king of a country. He had long blonde hair, with two tied braids holding the bulk out of his face. His face was kind. Too kind to match the substantial amount of armour he was wearing.
"...And this must be your newest recruit?"
"Yes your majesty." Said Duncan, turning to Amelia with slight panic in his eyes, "May I introduce-"
"No need. You are Bryce's youngest, are you not?" The king smiled as he gestured for her name.
Amelia's heart began to race. 'Oh no!' She thought, 'He already knew her! What do I do?!'
Realising that the king was waiting, she panicked. Without thinking, she blurted out: "Yes, Amelia, your majesty." Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Duncan pinch the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, as if to say "Wrong Answer!" Too late now.
The king thought for a moment. "Amelia... Of course! Your brother, Fergus, is already here, but we are still waiting for your father."
She gave a silent sigh of relief. Clearly the King did not know Elissa very well. "Ah, yes... my father..." she said as she pondered how to answer him. She looked to Duncan who stared at her with an almost pleading expression. She thought back to the small amounts of information Duncan had given her on the so far illusive Couslands. "he uh... won't be coming. He was murdered."
"Murdered?!" The king cried.
"Yes your majesty, by Arl Howe."
Duncan explained everything to the king as Amelia began to drift off once more. Her eyes wandered across the epic landscape surrounding her. It was strange to think that this wonderful forest and these fantastic ruins would later be destroyed to make way for some collection of buildings or something to that effect.
"When this is over, I will march to Highever and ensure that Howe pays for his treachery." The king announced loudly welcoming Amelia back to reality.
"Oh! Uh, thank you, your highness." She smiled.
After a brief gloat from the king about the success of the battles thus far and a contradictory lecture from Duncan, Amelia was sent into the camp to search for another warden by the name of "Alistair" who was to aid her in the beginnings of joining the order. Terry was taken with Duncan and Amelia was left to her thoughts once more as she walked through the camp. Her thoughts jumped from home to battle to having kids (weather she liked it or not) until she caught her first glimpse of what she assumed was mages over the shoulders of what she assumed where templars. The idea of magic kept her mind occupied until she found a strange man arguing with yet another mage.
"Should I have asked her to write a note?" He grinned.
The mage crossed his arms and frowned. "your glibness does you no credit."
"Oh, and I thought we were getting along so well! I was even going to name one of my children after you: The grumpy one."
Amelia could help but giggle quietly as the mage scoffed, "Fine! I will go see her! Out of my way, fool!" he grunted as he pushed past Amelia.
The other man, now apparently content with the mage's reaction gave a satisfied sigh. Amelia stepped forward a little and gave a small cough to catch his attention.
He turned, slightly startled. He looked her up and down and smiled. "you know," he spoke as he stepped towards her. "one thing I love about a Blight is how it brings people together."
