A/N: I am so sorry for making you all wait this long for an update on this story. I hope you didn't think I abandoned it. It's just that I'm really slow at updating it. And plus, most of the chapters in this story are fairly long. So that's another reason as to why it takes me a while to update it. I hope none of you got tired of waiting and just decided to give up on it. If you did, then I understand. Anyway, thanks to everyone who read and reviewed for chapter twelve. I hope you all will enjoy this next chapter just as much.
Disclaimer: I only own Eloise Brinns and Miranda Norton. Oh and I also own all the spy names that Emily gives to everyone in this chapter.
December first was now here and it was 10:00 am. It was now time for the children's morning recess. It was a little cold outside, so the children had decided to play inside, instead. Eloise Brinns, a middle aged blue eyed woman with shoulder length dark blonde hair, was substituting for Miranda for the day because Miranda was at home, sick with the flu. However, the children thought otherwise.
Instead of being scattered out among the room, all the children were sitting in the time out area. Not because they were in trouble, but because they were trying to figure out what really happened to their teacher.
"I can't believe my beautiful onion daffodil is sick! I need to be with her at a time like this!" Derek whined as nearly everyone rolled their eyes at him.
"Oh calm down, Derek! It's not like she's dying! She just ate a really bad peanut butter, pickle, bacon, marshmallow, hot sauce and gummy worm sandwich!" JJ snapped.
"Miss Norton can't eat peanut butter. She's allergic to peanuts." Spencer said.
"How do you know she's allergic to peanuts?" David asked.
"Because Miss Norton told him." Emily said.
"But why would she tell him and nobody else?" Grant asked.
"Because he's her favorite." Emily said of Spencer.
"I thought I was her favorite." Derek sadly said as Aaron gave him a sympathetic look and a quick pat on the back.
"I don't think she really has a favorite student. That wouldn't be fair. And she didn't tell me that she's allergic to peanuts." Spencer said. "Last Thursday, when I scraped my knee during recess, I went to Nurse Aubrey to get a band aid. Well, she had to go take a phone call in the principal's office, so I had to wait until she got back. And so while waiting, I got bored and decided to snoop around. Eventually I found Miss Norton's medical file, where it says she's allergic to peanuts and also to bees."
"So that explains why she freaked out when I put that jar full of bees on her desk, a few days after the first day of school." Penelope said, dreamily.
"Well, in Miss Norton's defense, you did open the jar and some of the bees flew out." Haley said.
"Well, in my defense, the bees needed to breathe." Penelope replied back.
"Alright, that's enough talk about Miss Norton. Now let's talk about our little mission." Emily said.
"Mission?!" Will asked, a bit loud. "What mission?!
"Shhhhh!" I don't want you know who to hear!" Emily whispered.
"Who me?" Penelope asked.
"No, not you."
"Me?" Jordan asked.
"No, not you either."
"What about…"
Before Jason could say anything else, Emily interrupted him.
"No, Jason. It's not you either."
"I wasn't going to ask if it was me." Jason said, defensively. "I was gonna ask if it was that caterpillar, crawling on Kevin's arm."
Terrified, Kevin looked down at his arm and saw a caterpillar. Before he could scream, Emily clamped her hand over his mouth.
"Don't scream or you'll ruin a very top secret and very important spy mission. Do you understand?"
Kevin nodded his head in a 'yes' motion.
"Good." Emily released her hand from Kevin's mouth and scooped up the caterpillar. "This isn't really a caterpillar."
"Yes it is." Spencer said.
"No it's not." Emily said. "It's actually a horse named Sparkle Hooves. He's on a very top secret and very important spy mission. So right now, he's posing as a caterpillar named Agent Helga Vaughn Strootanhouser."
"What kind of top secret and important spy mission is he on?" Alex eagerly asked.
"Can't tell you. If I told you, then I'd have to…"
"Kill us?" Jordan suggested as she interrupted Emily.
Emily was shocked at the statement as she gasped.
"No! What's is wrong with you?! I was gonna say, if I told you then I'd have to switch Elle's cold spaghetti in her lunch box with worms."
"Ewe!" Elle grimaced. "Wait, how did you know that I have cold spaghetti in my lunch box?"
"I saw it when I was eating your peanut butter cup brownie." Emily said. "Oh by the way, tell your mommy that she's a really good baker. That brownie was delicious! What's her secret? My mommy is horrible at baking."
"Hey! That was my brownie!" Elle whined. "And for your information, my mommy's secret is that she doesn't bake. She buys the brownies at a bakery, where they're already made."
"Really? Maybe I should tell my mommy to do that. One time she made some brownies and I fed one to my pet gold fish, Tuna Casserole and then he died. It was the saddest day of my life." Emily sighed, sadly.
"You're not supposed to feed brownies to fish." Spencer said.
"Well, he kept looking at me with sad eyes and I just couldn't stand it anymore. So I just smashed the brownie up and threw it into the fish bowl. Next thing I knew, the brownie was gone and Tuna Casserole was floating at the top of the fish bowl."
"I'm gonna tell mommy that you said she's a bad baker." David threatened.
"I told you to never call her that again."
"You call her that. What makes you so special?" David asked.
"I get to call her that because she really is my mommy. You just think she's your mommy." Emily argued. "And you should feel lucky. You're parents are those delicious cookie making elves."
"I wish David's parents were my parents." Kevin said.
"Me too." A few of the other children said.
"Can we please get back to this little spy mission were supposed have?" Aaron asked, slightly getting annoyed.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry, I forgot." Emily said as she then tossed the caterpillar from her hands, after saying, "Good luck Agent Helga Vaughn Strootanhouser." She then turned her attention back to her classmates and said, "I don't want Mrs. Brinns finding out about any of this."
"Why not?" Haley asked.
Emily looked suspiciously around the room and in a very low whisper, said, "I don't think Miss Norton is really sick. I think she's gone missing. And I think Mrs. Brinns has something to do with her disappearance."
Emily's voice was so quiet that no one understood a single word she had just said. They were all quite confused.
"Wait, what did she just say?" Clyde asked.
"I think she said something about trees growing upside down." Derek said.
"No. That doesn't make any sense. I'm pretty sure she said something about seeing Big Foot dancing in a magical forest while dressed as a ballerina." Ashley said.
"Wait, was Emily dressed as a ballerina or was Big Foot?" Grant asked.
"Big Foot." Ashley replied back.
"That'd be too hard to believe. Big Foot would never be caught dancing in a magical forest." Will said.
"Oh, and what makes you'd think he'd be dressed as a ballerina?" Alex asked.
"Because I've seen him dressed as one before and he was dancing on the roof of my next door neighbor's house. Believe me when I tell you that it was not a pretty sight. Had nightmares for weeks." Will shuddered as he spoke those last few words. "And besides, that's not what Emily said at all. She said something about opening her very own toe nail cupcake bakery."
Emily just rolled her eyes and smacked her forehead.
"You all are wrong! I didn't say any of that! I said, I don't think Miss Norton is really sick. I think she's gone missing. And I think Mrs. Brinns has something to do with her disappearance!"
"Oh, well that makes so much more since." Jordan said.
"Why do you think Miss Norton is missing and Mrs. Brinns has something to do with her disappearance?" Spencer asked.
"Because Miss Brinns is an alien and a not very pretty one, either. Trust me. I've seen her true form." Emily said.
"What does she really look like?" Penelope asked. A hint of fear could be heard in her voice.
"Well, she's about a hundred feet tall, has green slimy skin, orange, blue and pink hair, her feet look like cat feet and she's like five thousand years old. And her real name is Neila."
"She doesn't seem very pretty at all." JJ said.
"If she's really a hundred foot tall alien, then how did she get into this classroom or even this school, without breaking the ceiling?" Jason asked.
"Because she has the power to transform herself into anyone or anything she wants."
"But if she can do that, then why not just transform herself into Miss Norton?" Clyde asked.
"Because she can't transform, until tomorrow. Once she transforms into something or someone, she has to stay like that for three whole days. She has Miss Norton tied up and locked away in a hidden location."
"Where is this hidden location?" Aaron asked.
"I don't know. That's why I need all of your help to try to get Neila to tell us." Emily said.
"Do we get really cool spy names?!" Alex asked, sounding a bit excited.
"Mmhm." Emily said. "Alex you get to be Agent Snorkleberry Cakes. Jordan, you are now known as Agent Gingerbread Waffles. And both you and Agent Snorkleberry Cakes are to get two jump ropes. Agents Greenleaf Bacon, Sparkle Snow Pringles and Fire Puffs Pastries; Derek, Aaron and Elle, that's the three of you." Emily's eyes darted to each of the three of them. "Your task is to get all the glitter from the arts and crafts supplies bin. Will and Jason, you two are now known as Agents Jalapeño Marshmallows and Anchovy Sprinkles. Both of you are to dig out all the dirt from this plant." Emily pointed at a small plant that was sitting in a flower pot on the shelf near the window. Due to the cold weather, the plant was near dying. So it was going to get thrown out in a few days, anyway. "Agents Swiss Cheese Potatoes and Frazzleberry Pasta; JJ and Kevin, that's the two of you." Emily said as her eyes met with theirs. "You two need to get all the play Dough from the arts and crafts supply bin. Penelope, Haley, David and Ashley, you four are now known as Agents Spinach Brownie, Tomato Muffins, Flashy McOnion Breath and Sourdough Funnel Cookies. I need the four of you to search the room for any pieces of lint that you see. I need Grant and Clyde to each get a cup of water from the fish tank. You two are now known as Agents Mashed Potato Coleslaw and Pepperoni Saint Casserole. And Beth and I will sneak out of here and get some sand from the sandbox on the play ground. Beth, you are now known as Agent Cinnamon McStalker and I am Agent Moldy Corn Flakes."
"Why do we need to get all that stuff?" Grant asked.
Because that's what we need to stop Neila from transforming into Miss Norton." Emily said. "We're gonna use the jump ropes to tie her up. And the rest of the stuff, we're gonna mix up in the container." She had pulled a small plastic container from the shelf, and emptied the contents that were in it.
"So what's this stuff gonna do to Neila?" Jordan asked.
"We're supposed to put it on her face and hands, and then she'll melt into a puddle of green slime." Emily said as some of her classmates had disgusted looks on their faces.
"But not before she tells us where she's hiding my Bunny Boo, right?" Morgan asked.
Emily rolled her eyes.
"Yes Agent Greenleaf Bacon. We won't put any of the stuff on Neila, until she tells us where your Bunny Boo is."
"Wait, we're still talking about Miss Norton, right? Because I really don't feel like saving a stranger named Bunny Boo." Aaron said.
"Yeah. We're still talking about Miss Norton." Alex said.
"Okay so…"
"Hey. What about Me and Spencer?" Maeve had interrupted Emily. There was a hint of sadness in her voice.
Emily just looked at her and Spencer for a moment. She could see looks of hurt in both of their eyes.
"What about you and Spencer?" She asked with confusion.
"You didn't give us any cool spy names or a task." Spencer said. He also shared the same hint of sadness in his voice that Maeve had.
"Yeah. We wanna help too." Maeve said.
"Oh. I'm sorry about that. I guess I forgot about you two." Emily said as she then began to think of new names for Maeve and Spencer and what they could do to help. "Okay, Spencer, you are now known as Agent Lemon Pickles and Maeve you are now known as Agent Zucchini Butters. And you two can…"
"Distract Neila while you and Agent Cinnamon McStalker sneak outside to the playground?" Spencer suggested.
"Yeah. We can bore her out of mind with all the smart stuff that we know." Maeve said.
"Um… yeah, sure. You took the words right out of my mouth." Emily said.
End of chapter thirteen. I've decided to make this a two part chapter. So, in the next chapter, you'll learn what the children does to their substitute teacher. Not sure when I'll have that posted, but I'll try to have it up as soon as possible. Please let me know what you thought about this chapter. Thank you. Oh and did you know that Neila is alien spelled backwards?
