A/N: Thanks for the reviews for the previous chapter. I'd like to say that the chapter you are about to read, was suggested to me about a year ago by another fanfiction author. I won't say who it was because if you end up hating the chapter, then I don't want you directing your anger towards her. So for now, she will remain unknown. However, if she gives me permission to mention her name in my author's notes, then I will. This chapter may not be exactly what she had in mind for it, but I hope it's close enough. This chapter only features JJ, Emily and JJ's family. Plus, this will be a three part storyline. And also these next three chapters are a little more serious than the previous humorous chapters I've done for this story. Without further ado, please enjoy chapter seventeen.
Disclaimer: I own absolutely nothing in this chapter.
JJ had invited Emily over to her house for a playdate. Despite being the middle of January, the weather was actually quite nice. So under the supervision of Roslyn, JJ's twelve year old sister, the two first graders decided to play outside. JJ and Roslyn's parents had gone to the grocery store to pick up a few things. Roslyn sat on the back porch swing, watching her little sister and her sister's friend play in the back yard. Every once in a while, the twelve year old would glance at her cell phone.
Emily had been at the Jareau home since that morning and JJ's request, the two first graders spent most of the day playing soccer. Emily was soon growing tired of the game and desperately wanted to play something else.
"JJ, can we please play something else now?" Emily pleaded.
"I don't wanna play something else. I wanna play soccer." JJ kicked her soccer ball towards Emily, just barely missing her head.
Emily quickly ducked out of the way, "But we've been playing this since I got here. Let's play something else now, like maybe spies?"
"No, this is my house. So I get to say what we play and don't play. And right now, we're playing soccer."
"But I always let you pick what you wanna to play when I invite you to my house."
"So?" JJ continued to kick the soccer ball around.
Knowing she couldn't get through to her friend, Emily sighed heavily and made her way to Roslyn. Roslyn looked up from her cell phone and saw Emily standing in front of her. She could tell that the little seven year old was nearly in tears.
"You okay?" She asked.
"I wanna go home now." Emily sniffled.
"Why?" Roslyn was concerned for the seven year old little girl.
"We've been playing soccer ever since I got here today, and I really wanna play something else. But JJ says we can't."
"JJ, can you please come here?!" Roslyn called out to her sister.
JJ had stopped kicking her soccer ball and picked it up and carried it to where her sister and friend were waiting. "What?"
"Emily told me that she wants to go home because you won't let her play anything else, except soccer. Is that true?"
"Yep."
"Jennifer Andrea Jareau, you know the rules. When we have friends over, we let them pick what to play first."
"It's JJ!" JJ stamped her foot in anger.
"It's not, when you're in trouble. Now are you gonna let Emily pick something to play or am I gonna have to put you in a time out?"
"Emily already said she wanted to go home. And since she wants to go home, I don't have to sit in time out."
"Yeah, you do." Roslyn said.
"But that's not fair!" JJ protested.
"Well, you're not being a very good friend to Emily and that's not fair either."
JJ glared at Emily and said, "I hate you Emily. We're not friends anymore. And don't call me, JJ anymore. Only my friends and family can call me that. And you're neither of those to me."
"And I hate you too. I'm glad we're not friends anymore." Emily shared almost the same glare as JJ.
"Hey you two, there is no reason for you to end your friendship. We can fix this situation." Roslyn said.
"No we can't. Me and Emily are never gonna be friends again."
"Yeah. So can I please call my mommy now? I wanna go home!" Emily demanded.
About fifteen minutes after Emily had gone home, Sandra and Max Jareau had returned from the grocery store. With the help of their two daughters, they carried bags of groceries into the house. When Roslyn had told them about JJ and Emily's argument and why Emily had gone home so early, they weren't too pleased with their youngest child.
"Jennifer, I am very dissapointed in you , right now. That is not how we treat our friends." Sandra gave her daughter a stern look.
"You're mother's right. That is unacceptable behavior, young lady. Now, when you go back to school tomorrow, we want you to apologize to Emily." Max said.
"Why? We're not friends anymore."
"Because it's the right thing to do." Max said.
JJ folded her arms acrossed her chest and rolled her eyes."Fine, but this is all Emily's fault."
"This whole thing isn't Emily's fault. You're partly responsible for it too." Sandra said.
Later that evening, the Jareau family were sitting down at the dining room table for dinner. Sandra had made chicken potpie along with green beans and hot rolls. She and Max had glasses of soda, while Roslyn had a glass of ice water and JJ had a glass of apple juice. Like every dinner, the Jareau's talked about how their day went. Max noticed JJ was a little too quiet.
"Everything alright, sweetheart?" he asked.
"Are we still gonna get some ice cream after dinner?" JJ asked, her eyes had a questionable look.
"It's Sunday, sweetheart. You know we always get ice cream every Sunday after dinner. Why would you ask that?" Max asked.
"Oh, I was just wondering if... if we could invite Emily to go with us?"
Max, Sandra and Roslyn were all surprised at what the youngest Jareau family member had requested. Just a few hours ago, JJ had said that her friendship with Emily was ruined. And now as they all four sat at the dinner table, she decides she wants to invite her ex-friend to get ice cream with her family. There was a small moment of silence, until Sandra finally spoke.
"I don't see why not. I'm sure Emily would love that, but I thought you said you weren't going to be her friend anymore."
"Yeah, what changed your mind, sweetheart?" Max asked.
"I don't know. I guess I just don't wanna stop being her friend." JJ shrugged her shoulders as she took a bite of her hot roll.
"Do you think Emily will feel the same way?" Roslyn asked.
"I hope so." JJ said.
"I'm sure she will. Shall we call her and tell her she's being invited to get ice cream with us?" Sandra asked after taking a sip of her soda.
"Can we surprise her, instead?" JJ asked.
"Sure sweetheart. That would be even better." Max agreed with his daughter.
After dinner, the Jareau family all got into the vehicle. Max sat in the driver seat. Sandra sat in the seat next to him. Roslyn was sitting directly behind Sandra. While JJ was sitting directly behind Max. When all seatbelts were safely fastened, Max opened the garage door and slowly backed the vehicle out of it.
"Roslyn, is there anyone you'd like to invite for ice cream?" Sandra asked.
"I would invite my best friend Daysha Coulter, but I don't think she'd really be up to it." Roslyn said.
"Why's that?" Max asked, looking in the review mirror.
"She's been having a really bad tooth ache these past couple of days. So I don't think she'll be wanting any ice cream."
"Well, that's understandable. Can you think of any other friend that may like to join us?" Sandra asked.
Roslyn appeared to be thinking for a moment. Finally she had an answer.
"I think Salem Kendrick would like to go. She loves ice cream."
"Everybody loves ice cream. I've never met anyone who doesn't. Besides, you'd be crazy if you didn't like ice cream. It just isn't natural." Max jokingly said.
"Ha. Very funny, dad." Roslyn sarcastically said.
"Well, it's true. Anyone who doesn't love ice cream, should be considered…"
"Hey that driver's driving on the wrong side of the road." JJ had interrupted her father and was pointing at a black pickup truck that was coming straight towards them.
"What the hell?!" Max yelled as he swerved to prevent from getting hit from the oncoming truck.
When Max swerved, he accidentally caused the vehicle to roll a few times. Glass was breaking. Screams were coming from Roslyn and Sandra. Max was just trying to be brave, telling his wife and children, "It's going to be okay." And JJ was too shocked to make any sound. After the vehicle had stopped rolling, it landed back on its wheels, in a ditch. There was eerie moment of silence, until Sandra spoke.
"Is everyone alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Max said.
"Me too." Roslyn said.
"JJ, what about you? Are you alright sweetheart?" Sandra asked.
"My head hurts." JJ said.
End of chapter seventeen. As you can see, I ended it in a cliffhanger. In the next chapter, you'll find out just how bad the injuries are. Please leave me some reviews. I'd love to know what you thought. Chapter eighteen will be up as soon as possible.
