A/N: Thanks for all the reviews for the previous chapter. I hope you'll like this next chapter just as much.
Disclaimer: I only own Miranda Norton, the name of Emily's father, the name of Ashley's mother and the name of Jordan's father. Anyone else in this chapter, does not belong to me. They are the property of CBS/Criminal Minds.
"Miss Norton," Jason said.
"Yes, Jason," Miranda replied back. "Can I help you with something?"
"Why didn't any of us boys get one of those papers that you just passed out to all the girls?"
Moments earlier, Miranda had given each of the girls a pink piece of paper that had something typed up on it. The boys couldn't help, but noticed they didn't receive one. Some of them looked hurt by it.
"Because they're for the father/daughter dance this Saturday evening," Miranda explained. "The boys will receive one for the mother/son dance next Saturday evening."
"There's a father/daughter dance this Saturday," Emily asked. "Well I better find a daddy to take me. Mine's probably gonna be on one of those talk shows again."
"I'm sure your father will be able to take you." Miranda said.
"Don't be so sure of yourself, Miss Norton." Emily said. She then scanned the room for a moment, until her eyes landed on Elle. "Hey Elle, what's your daddy doing this Saturday?"
"Uh, he's taking me to the father/daughter dance." Elle said.
"Well that's too bad. I was hoping he'd take me," Emily said. Her eyes once again scanned the room. This time, they landed on Beth. "Hey Beth, what's…. Oh wait never mind. I don't need to ask. I already know. Your daddy's gonna be stalking people this Saturday. That's who you learned your stalking from."
"My daddy does not stalk people! My mommy does and that's who I learned it from! Thank you very much," Beth said matter of factly, while placing her hands on her hips. "And besides, my daddy is gonna take me to the father/daughter dance this weekend."
"Well excuse me for making a mistake," Emily held up her hands in defense. Her eyes then scanned the room again and this time, they landed on Ashley. "What about your daddy, Ashley? What's he doing this weekend?" She asked.
Ashley shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I haven't seen him since I was four years old. So I don't think I'm gonna go to the dance this weekend. I don't have a daddy to take me either."
Saturday was finally here and it was the night of the father/daughter dance. While most of the other girls were attending it with their fathers, Emily stayed in her bedroom and cried. She had so desperately wanted to go, but with her father constantly being gone, she knew it wouldn't be possible. At least there was one other person who wasn't attending the dance, Ashley. In a strange way, that made Emily feel happy and sad at the same time.
There was a knock on her bedroom door and when it opened, she was surprised to see her father, Emerson. "Daddy!" She ran into his arms and hugged him tightly.
"Hey sweetheart," Emerson smiled as he kissed his daughter's face. "I heard there was a father/daughter dance tonight. You didn't think I would miss it, did you?"
Emily was shocked. "How did you know?"
"You're mother called and told me," Emerson said. "I wasn't gonna let you miss out on the dance. Now what do you say? Shall we go?"
"Yeah," A smile had spread across Emily's lips, but then it soon faded.
"What's wrong sweetheart?" Emerson asked.
"Before we go to the dance, can we stopped somewhere else first," Emily asked.
"Sure, where to?"
"A friend's house."
Ashley sat at her small table in the living room with a box a crayons and a coloring book, coloring a picture of a castle. She too was upset about not being able to go to the father/daughter dance, but she tried not to let it bother her. Maybe someday she would have a father who cared enough to stay and not walk out of her life.
The door bell had rung. "Mommy," Ashley called out. "Someone's at the door!"
Hurrying to the front door with a dish towel in her hands. Maya was surprised to see Emerson and Emily Prentiss standing on the other side of the door when she opened it.
"Oh hi," She smiled brightly at the two of them. "I wasn't expecting company today, but come on in." She stepped aside and allowed the father and daughter to enter, to which Emerson thanked her for.
"Emily? Why are you here?" Ashley had stopped coloring when she noticed her classmate was standing in her living room.
"My daddy's gonna take me to the dance tonight and I told him I wanted to invite you to come with us," Emily proudly said.
"If it's alright with the both of you," Emerson said to both Maya and Ashley.
"You really don't have to take her," Maya began. She's used to missing out on all this father/daughter stuff now."
Please mommy," Ashley begged. "I really wanna go. All the other girls are gonna be there."
"Oh come on. How can you say no to that face," Emerson said, smiling. "Let her go to the dance with Emily and I. It would mean so much to my little girl, right sweetheart?" He asked his seven year old daughter.
"Right," Emily looked directly at Maya. "And we're not gonna leave this house until you let Ashley go with us."
Looking from her daughter and to Emerson and Emily, who were all practically begging her to say yes, Maya sighed with a smile.
"Oh alright sweetheart, you can go, but be on your best behavior," She said to her daughter.
"Thanks mommy," Ashley jumped up from her chair and threw her arms around her mother's waist. "I'll be good! I promise!"
"I know you will," Maya ruffled the top of her daughter's head. "Tell Emily and her father, thank you for letting you go with them."
Ashley released her mother's waist and turned her attention to Emily and Emerson.
"Thank you for letting me go to the dance with you."
"You're welcome." Emily and Emerson said in unison.
Emerson, Emily and Ashley were the last to arrive at the school dance. The dance was being held in the gymnasium of the elementary school. The two girls were amazed at how the room looked. Pink and purple streamers hung from the rafters of the ceiling. Balloons of pink and purple were scattered among the dance floor. There were two table against the wall, one was covered with all sorts of candy and other delicious treats, while the other table was filled with gift bags for each girl to take home with them. There were some girls who Emily or Ashley didn't recognize, dancing to the music.
"Emily, Ashley! Over here!"
Emily and Ashley looked and saw Beth waving at them from a table. She was with the rest of the girls from their class. "Come on daddy, let's go say hi to all my friends," Emily was practically dragging Emerson. The rest of the girls were also with their fathers.
"Why are you here," Elle sneered at Ashley. Her father, Robert tapped on her shoulder and gave her a stern look as if to say, be nice. "I was only asking because she doesn't have a daddy." She said defensively.
Emily threw an arm around Ashley's shoulder.
"She gets to be my sister for tonight. You got a problem with that, Princess Peanut Butter Head," She asked glaring at Elle.
"Emily," Emerson reprimanded his daughter. "That isn't a very nice name to call someone. Tell her you're sorry."
Still glaring, Emily let out a sigh and apologized to Elle, who in return, forgave her.
"Let's go dance now daddy," Jordan stood up from her chair and grabbed her father, Marcus Todd's hand. The rest of the girls and their father's soon followed behind Jordan and Marcus.
For the rest of the night, the girls and their fathers danced and laughed and had a wonderful time. It would surely be a night none of them would ever forget.
End of chapter twenty two. Please leave me some reviews. I'd really appreciate it if you did. I'll have chapter twenty three up as soon as possible.
