Companion chapter for chapter 41.
"Isn't Bolin home yet?" Mako asked Kai, looking at the time.
"He said he's working late," said the airbender.
"Hey," Wei appeared in the doorway, "Kai, it's almost time,"
"Oh right. I'm coming."
"Time for what?" Mako asked following him.
"Bolin said to listen to the radio,"
"Tonight? Wasn't Rumble on last night?"
"Yeah. We're not really sure why he said-"
"Kai! Get in here!"
Kai and Mako ran to room with the radio. The twins were both sitting close the set.
"Anyun's on," Wing said pointing.
"Sweet,"
"…voice from the dozen commercials she does, but this is her first time hosting a radio show. I know you all will love her as much as I do. Also with us for tonight is Yumi."
"He just couldn't do this without me. And we're very excited to be part of this new segment. Hana, do you want to tell all the lovely listeners just what's starting tonight?"
"You're listening to the first broadcast of Two way Talk."
"What is Two way Talk you ask? Excellent question. This a segment were we talk to you. That's right, in a short while we'll open our phone lines and you can call in and be part of the conversation."
"We can call in," Kai grinned.
"I can't believe Bolin is missing this, for work." Wing said.
"He would kill to call in,"
"He must have known," Mako said, "Otherwise he wouldn't have told you to listen."
"Can we call in from now?" Wei asked.
"I don't think so," Wing shook his head.
"They didn't say, didn't they?"
"Guys, shh, the radio…" Kai put a finger to his lips.
"Let's end the suspense and let the gentlemen introduce themselves."
"Hello Repu-"
"HI EVERYONE! I'M ON THE RADIO! MAKO I'M ON THE RADIO!"
"That's Bolin!" the four boys said at once.
"That's why he told us to listen!" Kai jumped to his feet.
"Varrick's there too," Wei pressed an ear to radio set, trying to make sure.
"I'm going to get the others. They have to hear this." He bolted from the room, returning moments while later, pushing Jinora, Opal, Asami and Korra ahead of him. Ikki and Meelo brought up the rear.
"Listen. I told you, their on the radio," Kai said eagerly.
"Oh-oh! I want to do it! I want to do it!"
"That's Bolin aright," Opal laughed.
"This must the surprise he and Varrick mentioned," Asami said.
"Equalist Strike! Shadow of the Mask! That's the name. Cool right?"
"It sounds interesting."
"There was that story that leaked just the other day, about this."
"That's part of the reason we are here tonight. There was some inconsistencies in that article and we want to clear that up, let everyone know what's what. Starting off Asami and Korra are not going to be in the mover."
"He kept his word at least," Korra said.
"Aww, no. I was so excited when I read that."
"Yeah, we tried to convince them, but they weren't interested."
"We have their full support through. They are super excited about it. Just three days ago they came on set and were so impressed with everything. They are thrilled to have their best buddy Bolin acting again. And Korra she was so excited about everything she took one of the posters already, I'm sure it's hanging in her room."
Asami looked at Korra, who was edging to the door.
"I thought you didn't take the poster," She said.
The Avatar shrugged, "I don't know what he's talking about," She laughed nervously.
"Oh really?"
"No clue,"
"We'll talk about this later,"
Korra gulped.
The others smirked as they listened to the radio.
"Here's hoping there'll be many more charity games."
"I'm sure Asami will plan something again. The last one was so successful we all had so much fun. Especially Korra. And Asami loves to make Korra happy."
Asami blushed, covering her face to hide her blush.
"Oh, can we talk about the ladies for a sec."
"Oh this is going to be good," Kai grinned.
"Republic City's premier power couple."
"Yeah, they took that title from Zhu Li and me."
"Bolin, you said you listen to us so, you must know how much we love the fact that they're together. We want to know what it's like for you."
"It's normal, I guess. They're still my best friends, and it's kind of like how it's always been. Except they sit closer now, and make out."
"Do they do that a lot?"
"Not in front us. Mostly quick kisses on the cheeks and stuff. But whenever we miss both of them it's not hard to guess what they're doing."
"Don't tell them that!" Korra cried, red heating up her cheeks.
"What was it like for you to find out? Were you surprised?"
"A little bit at first yeah. But after the shock wore of I realized it made sense."
"I knew."
"You did?"
"How'd you know?"
"The way they looked at each other. They didn't make it very hard."
"What was it like for you to find out? Were you surprised?"
"A little bit at first yeah. But after the shock wore of I realized it made sense."
"I knew."
"You did?"
"How'd you know?"
"The way they looked at each other. They didn't make it very hard."
"And what did your friends think? And your brother, he must have been surprised."
"He was, a little. But I think on some level he knew."
"Is it hard for him? They are his exes."
"There was a period where he was a little flustered by them. He didn't really show it, but I could tell. But, they're our best friends. He just wants them to be happy, even if that's not with him."
Mako groaned, "Does he know anyone can hear this? Why'd he have to say that?"
"Aww, but he's being so nice about it," Kai teased. Mako shot him a hard look.
"Do you and your girlfriend go on dates with them?"
"Yea. We have actually. You guys talked about, if I remember right. At the Purple Pentapus."
"Oh right. When Avatar Korra punched that drunk guy."
"That's Korra for you. Opal and I enjoyed going out with them. We talked about doing it again, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Probably because everyone has been so busy, especially Asami, with the expansion of the city. But she did said that a new sector is close to completion, so hopefully soon we'll get to go on another date when her work lightens."
"Since you mentioned the reconstruction I want to mention that part of the profits from Equalist Strike will be donated to the city."
"That's great. You've both done so much to help the city already."
"It's home, of course we want to help."
"I think it's about time we open the lines and let people call in so they can ask questions themselves."
"Oh, let's call them," Kai jumped to his feet.
"YES!" Ikki air scootered after him.
"Wait for us," Wei shouted.
"I want to talk to,"
They jostled at the phone, each wanting to dial. Kai managed to elbow the others way long enough to dial. A guy answered to screen the call and put them on hold. They had to wait a short while but it wasn't long before…
"Hi."
"We're on! Hey Bolin!" Kai said excitedly.
"Wait…Kai?"
Kai opened his mouth to answer but Ikki grabbed his arm, "I want to talk,"
"Hey let go," Kai said. The pair started shoving eachother, Kai trying to keep the phone away from her. Meelo joined in, jumping on Ikki's back to get a better reach.
"HEY!"
"Ikki let go!"
"No you let go!"
"Guys stop," Mako tried to break it apart. The scuffle got wrost when the twins joined in. Meelo was elbowed off Ikki.
"Ow, that was my eye!"
"Give me the phone," Ikki said, grabbing Kai by the ear.
"Ow! Ow!" He tried to talk, "Bolin can-"
"Ah!" Wei cried out as Meelo jumped on him.
"You hear us-"
Jinora and Opal covered their eyes as they watched. Korra was chuckling silently and Asami sighed, she said, "You can't all talk at once."
The pile of people fighting over the phone managed to pull it away from the wall, pulling out the cord.
"Look what you did!" Ikki said.
"This isn't my fault," Kai retorted.
"How are we going to call now?" Meelo said.
"There may not be time to call back,"
"Guys shh, listen to what they say on radio."
"We're getting close to the end of our segment. I think we have time for one or two more calls."
"Hello, you're on the air."
"Hello, I have a question for Bolin. How can you still be friends with the Avatar and Asami Sato? A relationship like theirs isn't right."
There was a thick silence in the room, everyone looking at the radio set. For a second there wasn't a sound then they heard Bolin.
"If you think a relationship filled with love isn't right then I feel sorry for you. I'm sorry that you feel that way, but you don't know Asami and Korra like I do. They make each other happy, happier than anyone else could. They weren't even that happy when they were dating my brother. Sorry bro, but it's true. I'm really sorry if you can't see that, or don't know what that's like. They can make each other smile without trying. They trust each other and support each other. They're always there for each other. If having someone in your life who can do all that isn't right then I don't know what is."
Meelo, Kai, Opal and Wei cheered. "Alright Bolin,"
"That's telling 'em," Wing fist pumped.
"Well said Bolin. You, whoever you are, love is love, no matter what form it comes in. There's nothing wrong with a same sex relationship. If you don't have anything good to say then please don't waste our time. We have a mover to promote you know."
"Don't listen to that caller," Jinora said to Asami and Korra.
"They're just being stupid." Opal added.
"It's fine," Asami said. Korra nodded.
The radio segment ended shortly after and they all waited for Bolin to come home. When he did Kai, Wing and Wei greeted him with a cheer. Varrick was with him
"Did you listen? Did you hear me?" He asked excited, bouncing on his feet.
"You could have told something," Kai punched him good naturedly.
Bolin laughed, rubbing his shoulder, "I wanted it to be a surprise," He was grinning ear from ear, "How was I? I was a little nervous."
"You were great," Opal kissed his cheek.
"Especially at the end there," Mako clapped him on the shoulder, "You really put that caller in their place,"
"You should have seen this guy's face when that person call," Varrick said pointing at Bolin, "He looked furious. I was scared he was going to lava bend. I'm sure the booth got hotter."
"He's exaggerating. I did get a little mad though."
"Your face was red and your eyes were flashing."
"They were not," Bolin said, "I just can't stand anyone talking about friends like that."
"We're sorry about that Bolin," Asami said.
"Why are you saying sorry?"
"The radio show was going great, and that comment about us brought down the mood,"
"It isn't your fault," Bolin said.
"And besides, I can spin this for some really great press," Varrick threw an arm over Bolin's shoulder, "Bolin, hero of the world, defender of equal rights."
"Hero of world?" Mako arched an eyebrow.
"It's the tag line of movie."
"Shouldn't that be Korra?"
"I've help save the world,"
"So have the rest of us,"
"When you're staring in your own movie you can the cool tag line."
