Henrietta POV
The sound of chaos had stopped, it seemed like the fighting had paused due to the blinding light. She could feel the pain had stopped, and she felt…light. As if she was floating. No! She was floating! Henrietta had realized that her feet were no longer on the ground; in fact she noticed that it wasn't the only thing different, her hair had became longer and is now tied in to four long spiral shaped ponytail. But most importantly, she felt powerful; it was as if the energy within her just bursting to get out. It was a weird feeling but not uncomfortable, in fact she felt better than she ever had!
The soldiers around her looked in awe and surprise, but they quickly realized one thing, this girl is an enemy. But some part of their mind, the instinctual part was yelling at them to stop. But these soldiers were not savage beasts, they could not understand what their instinct is telling them, so they hesitated only for a sec.
"Attack the mage!" One of the enemy mages yelled and in response the mages launched a row of spells at Henrietta. Fireballs, icicles and wind blasts all aimed flew toward her with the sole purpose of killing.
"Eek!" Henrietta froze; her common sense had come back after the brief dreamy state. But there were not enough time to get out of the way! In desperation she shielded her head and closed her eyes and then…nothing happened.
"What?" Henrietta muttered in surprise, and it seems so did the enemy. As the blast cleared, she was still in one piece, not a single wound on her. Oh she felt the attack alright, but instead of surge of pain, it felt as if it was a small drizzle of rain albeit with different temperature. Something is seriously different, but Henrietta paid no attention to it, there is only one thing that mattered, she had indeed got the power that she wanted.
"Be careful, the enemy is strong! Fire again!" The enemy mage shouted and a greater surge of attacks was aimed at her, but this time Henrietta did not even close her eyes. The blast hit her and once again, it was the same as having a bucket of water tossed on her, not a single wound. She focused her attention to the battlefield and then she saw what she was looking for. Wales, he was lying on the ground, for a moment Henrietta feared that he might be dead but then she felt it. It was a weird feeling like having a sense you never had before; a sixth sense, but she could feel the small bit of life within his body. Wales is still alive, he passed out because of blood lost but he is still alive. He needs medical treatment soon, there was only one way.
"I have to make the enemy surrender then." Henrietta said, it was time to race against time.
Hawkins POV
General Hawkins sat on his horse within the middle of the army. As the general of the Reconquista army, he had no need to be in the front line to risk his life, but staying in the back of the army like a coward was not his style as well. His men are fighting, so it is a general's job to ensure that they win, and to do that staying in the center of the army is the best strategy. It give him the best spot to command the army and receive information, and for a army of 50000 as large as theirs it is necessary that any information gets passed along very fast.
But this time there was no need, the blinding light was very much visible from his position, and it was obvious something is happening in the front line. Could this be some secret weapon that the royal family had? Perhaps, Hawkins holds no personal grudge against them, but as a soldier of the Reconquista, he had the duty to defeat them. If this is some secret weapon that they had hidden, he needs to observe it to formulate a strategy.
"We're going to the front." He said to the group around him, they were all elite triangle mages, it is risky moving the brain of the army, but if the eyes go blind, there is no telling what sort of chaos it would cause. His group nodded and with a kick, his horse went for the front line.
It wasn't very far, but he arrived just in time to witness the front line magic assault. But what surprised him was that he didn't see any sign of a secret weapon. There was no unstoppable super golem, or a titanic monster of incredible strength. But all the front line mages were firing intensely at one point, the expression on their faces showed one thing, fear. Could it be there is one last powerful mage within the enemy's ranks? It was possible, Hawkins had heard of the fearsome tales of Karin the heavy wind. It is a dangerous possibility, if that's it a plan to surround the mage need to be made.
But before Hawkins could think any further, the assault ceased and then the view of the opponent had appeared. Hawkins could feel a intense sensation of surprise hitting him as he saw the enemy. It was like being hit with a sledgehammer, all plans and thoughts he had before instantly vanished.
Divine, that was the only word he could come up with to describe the enemy. Perhaps it was blasphemous to describe anyone other than the founder as divine, but that was the only word he could find. The enemy isn't beautiful beyond all comparison, but the air she radiates seemed to overwhelm one's senses. But shaking his head, Hawkins snapped out of his trance state, it was stupid the enemy is only one girl, no matter how strong a mage she is, she can't beat an army as big as theirs. The girl with the purple long hair tails was floating in the air, it seems she is using levitation, but no element spell had been cast so there is no way to know what element she is.
At this point the girl seemed to be preparing to attack, as she raised her wand, Hawkins turned his mount and ran for cover, and there is no telling what strength the enemy is, so it is better to prepare as if he is facing a legend like Karin. After all, a general can never be too cautious.
But nothing came. That's a surprise, Hawkins thought. That was strange, considering the air the enemy radiates, he was certain she was dangerous. Is this a way to trick them? No matter, if the other side won't come, then it's time for them to attack.
"Charge!" He shouted, and as the army moved forward he observed the figure of the girl, preparing for any trick she might have.
Henrietta POV
It can't be! Henrietta panicked in her mind, she couldn't use her wand! Despite feeling powerful, she couldn't cast out a single spell from her wand. There is no way for her to attack now.
"No…come on, work!" She said as she prepared the wand to cast another blast of water, but again, nothing. No, no, no! Henrietta tried to calm herself with no avail. Damn it, I thought that I would have been granted power, is this all just a joke!
Use the mill…
"Huh?" Henrietta was surprised, a voice appeared within her head, but before she could identify it, it vanished. There is no time left, she thought, the voice might be suspicious but it was the only choice she got. Henrietta let go of her wand and with a dull clack it fell to the ground, abandoned by its owner.
Raising her other hand that held the mill, Henrietta held on to the handle with her wand hand. And then a sense of familiarity began to surface, it was like her muscles remember how to use the thing even though she never touched it. Knowledge of how to use it seems to flow into her head, and with that knowledge she began to spin it.
With every spin, balls of light the size of a watermelon appeared, she could feel that she have control over them just like a spell. Witnessing it, the enemy knows she is about to attack, and to protect the mages, ogres, beasts and other regular soldiers ran towards her. Seeing this, Henrietta panicked and as if reacting to this, the balls of light flew towards the enemies…
The balls of light first hit the ogres who were fastest, and as if a joke, the part of the ogres body that made contact with the ball of light crumpled as the ball of light disappeared. The being screamed in pain, and then it collapsed producing a splash sound; its hole-ridden corpse lay within a puddle of its blood. Henrietta was surprised at how powerful it was, and in response she began to spin the mill more to replenish the lost lights. She can do this! She can fight! All she needs to do now is make the enemy surrender in a display of power!
Hawkins POV
Hawkins mind could not comprehend what he just saw, that was not magic, at least not magic he had ever heard of. The balls of light were like no elemental magic he saw before, and it took out the ogres easily as if it was a game. Is this elf magic? Possible, but one thing for sure, it is dangerous. The girl didn't seem to be affected by mage attacks a lot, but the mages are still their best weapon, so Hawkins quickly ordered the other troops to move to the front in order to protect the mages.
As the ogres fell one by one, the balls of light were disappearing; in this Hawkins saw a chance. Early on when he saw the balls appear, he counted there were about 50 to 100 lights, but now the number is about 35, if they all charge forward right now, they might be able to charge at her.
But the soldiers were becoming afraid; they had seen the girl shrug off their mage assault and her destructive power. They would not have an effective charge if the soldiers are like this. So in order to raise the morals, Hawkins decided to tell a lie.
"The enemies elf magic is exhausted! Now's our chance!" And with that he began to charge at the girl with his horse, words themselves are not enough, but seeing the general himself charging, the surrounding soldiers followed. And like a snowball getting bigger, soon almost all the soldiers are charging forward. And within this chaos, no one saw the general slowing down.
But things did not go as Hawkins planned, no more accurately he could not have forseen what is about to happen. As the army charged to crush the girl, the number of lights suddenly exploded! Forming hundreds and then thousands within 15 seconds! It formed an enormous wall! No, it was a tsunami! But these words did not come in to Hawkins mind, it happened too fast and the shock caused him to stare at the scene like a fool. His soldiers also began to slow down at the scene in front of them. Adrenalines from charging were replaced with deep fear, but no mercy was given. With one swoop, the first line was swallowed by the wave of lights. Their body and clothes crumbled into a puddle of water leaving only their metal gears intact.
Just when the rest of the soldiers feared they were going to be registered to the same fate, the lights retracted, gathering around the figure of the girl as if it were a pair of giant wings. And with a breeze of wind, the girl flow towards the back of the army with the speed of a dragon. She is going after the HQ ship! Hawkins military senses told him that, but his was still not out of his shock. Like the soldiers around him, he merely stared at the direction the girl flew to. They stared as the sight of hundreds of light blasted the ship to smithereens, they stared as the dragon knights desperately try to put up a pathetic fight but was merely turned into a mist of water along with their dragon by a wall of light balls.
This is not a fight. This is a slaughter. This is divine retribution for them rebelling against the crown.
Fear carved into Hawkins heart as he realized what they were fighting against. It's not a human, no human could do this, it's not an elf, elf has their limit, and it's no magical beast taking the form of a human.
This is a god passing her judgement
The ships fell one after another, turning into water along with all passengers on board, and finally all of them had been destroyed. There is no point in asking if anyone survived, it was obvious no one did, their leader Cromwell is gone too. The water filled with metal objects formed was suspended in the air defying the idea of gravity. Finally as the figure descend from the sky and into the center of the army below, the water fell creating a rain of water and metal. The soldiers moved away from the figure, none dared to challenge her, fear was carved deep into the heart of everyone as they witnessed the overwhelming display of power.
"In the name of Henrietta de Tristain, surrender!" The girl yelled, it wasn't loud, nor was it fearsome, it sounded like the shout of any ordinary girl. But the words carried authority created by power, and strike the fear that was carved into the soldiers below. There was not a single sound of disagreement; Clattering of weapons falling to the ground was the only noise available.
Like a tide, the soldiers kneeled in the mud below, it was a ridiculous scene probably never before seen in Halkeginia history. But it is not for the people involved, in fact it was the only thing they could do to pray for mercy.
Within the rain, Henrietta merely looked blankly at the sight before her; tens of thousands people kneeling and worshipping. And like that, she began to say her command.
Yumemi POV
"Chiyuri why did you call me here?" Yumemi said as she walked into the main analyze room. She was not happy; she was interrupted in the middle of monitoring the construction of the device. That thing is very important to her, and leaving the shikigami work force unmonitored is risky, who knows when they might screw up somewhere.
"Look at this." Chiyuri said as she passed the hologram report to Yumemi, with a swipe of a finger Yumemi changed it to a 3D graph display.
"That spike in energy…A birth of a god? Impossible, there should be not enough faith or religion bases to start the reaction." Yumemi said as she puzzled, then it hit her she isn't the only one who came.
"Damn it, did Otohime do this! I should have told her to not do that, this could completely F**k up man plan!" Yumemi shouted in anger, she can't complain to the celestial bureau since the girl has people on the inside, it would be impossible to get her to take responsibility. In that case should she kill it now? Killing a new born god isn't that difficult for the leader of Gensokyo's science side, but the girl probably wouldn't just let her do it.
"You know the energy isn't that high, it's not a strong god, we could just let it go. The possibility of this influencing our plan is a million-to-one." Chiyuri said.
"No, I can't let something like that even have a chance of influencing my plan! That's how all the other idiots messed up. I got it, we'll plan an assassination, when the guests come we spread this news then we kill the new born god. No one would know we did it!" Yumemi explained, this is a great plan, after all with so many people no way they could trace it on them.
"Um…They would, we're the only one with a goddamn motive! Seriously Yumemi, sometime you lack common sense so badly, plus did you forget about Otohime's power?" Chiyuri said, and then smacked Yumemi with a folding chair, sometimes this is the only way to fix her brain.
"So what your plan then?" Yumemi asked, Chiyuri face-palmed herself, sometimes she really wondered if Yumemi's IQ had dragged down her EQ.
"Simple, we get the girl to lose interest in her new toy, THEN we kill it. Otohime wouldn't mind us breaking an abandoned toy." Chiyuri said, and then as if suddenly enlightened, Yumemi ran out and yelled behind her.
"Great idea, I'll leave finding the new god and monitoring to you!" Hearing this Chiyuri slapped herself, what a big mouth she had; now she just added to her own work load.
"I need a vacation."
Author's word: looking back the chapters before was not done very well, characters seem flat and emotionless, the speeches seemed cheesy, and the plot seemed generic. Most importantly I wasn't able to express how much Henrietta was affected by killing another human being. I guess my writing skill isn't that well, so some editing might need to be done on the chapters before this. But once again thanks for sticking around this long. Hope I described the curb stomp good enough, next chap we're back with Louise.
