Months had passed since the incident that caused Hiccup and Astrid to lose their baby, and the other tribes had long gone, though not before watching Snotlout beat the life out of Dagur, sending him away with two black eyes, a swollen cheek, two missing teeth, a bloody nose and cuts on his forehead and shin. Astrid and Hiccup had slowly gotten over their grieving and were now almost back to normal, teaching dragon training. Hiccup and Caverna had even started to travel around together in search of new places and new dragons. Sometimes Astrid would join them but then sometimes it would just be the two of them, both of them enjoyed each other's company and the feeling of soaring through the clouds. However, this time her brother had gone flying on his own whilst Caverna was back on Berk, everyone in Berk was gathered in a group of stands, and they seemed to be watching some sort of race. Though it wasn't just any race, it was a dragon race! The dragons involved, where Stormfly, Hookfang, Meatlug, Snowcap and Barf and Belch. Each dragon and rider was painted with dazzling designs and each one had their own colour combination. Stormfly and Astrid were decorated in orange and blue, Hookfang and Snotlout were decorated in red and yellow, Barf and Belch and the twins were decorated in green, yellow and black, Meatlug and Fishlegs were painted with orange and green and finally Caverna and Snowcap had decorated themselves with just a simple blue colour. They were all flying around catching sheep that were thrown into the air by a contraption that Gobber controlled, and their catch would be put into their own nets, earning each of them points. So far, Caverna and Astrid were neck and neck with the amount of points that they both had, whilst Snotlout was close to catching up. However, the crowd were cheering for both of them, even though they all knew that as fast as she was, Stormfly couldn't fly faster than the young Night Fury – but that never stopped her from trying.

As Caverna and Astrid flew around the village, Snotlout following close behind, Snowcap hit her paws on a small metal turbine and suddenly there was a horn sounding.

"The black sheep!" The three leading riders shouted, though they all looked at each other and flew off in different directions.

Astrid was the first one to get to the sheep, and she patted Stormfly. "Up, up, up!" She told her dragon and Stormfly shifted so her feet were poised ready to catch the fast flying sheep, but just as she was about to make the grab, it was caught by Snotlout who flew next to Ruff and Tuff. As this was going on, Astrid had noticed that Caverna was no where to be seen.

"Here you go, my dear." He threw the sheep to Ruffnut, who held it up in the air, and that soon proved to be a mistake.

As the sheep was held into the air, Ruffnut suddenly found her hands empty and a laughing Caverna flying off with it.

"Caverna!" Ruffnut screamed, before she and her brother tried to get their dragons to catch up, just as Snotlout and Astrid tried to do the same. As Snotlout and Astrid got closer, they tried to grab the sheep out of Caverna's hands; Caverna kept it close and let Snowcap dodge their way out of their grasps. The game ended when Caverna threw the sheep into her own net, and the crowd applauded. As the crowd applauded, the group realised that it was for both Caverna and Astrid, and the two of them flew in from two different sides and high-five as many villagers as they could, before they joined each other in the air with the other riders.

"That's my daughter and daughter-in-law!" Stoick thundered, obviously ecstatic with the win and how well all of the teams performed during the race.

Caverna felt a small swell of her pride as she heard her father's comment and she smiled at the others before she flew off home to wipe Snowcap down and to wipe the blue paint from her face. A she was just finishing up cleaning the paint from her face, and Snowcap lay clean and happy in front of the fire, her father came home.

"Hey, dad." Caverna greeted him, smiling.

"Well done today." Stoick praised.

"Thank you." She beamed.

"You haven't seen your brother, have you?" Stoick asked after a few minutes of silence.

Caverna shook her head. "No, not since he left us at breakfast...Why, is he in trouble?"

"Not yet." Stoick told her.

"Well, I'm sure that wherever he is he is fine, anyway he might have gone to explore some more, you know how he is with that map of his."

Stoick nodded, thinking back to the time when Hiccup had told him and the girls that he was going to add to the map that Berk already had.

It wasn't long after Astrid had lost the baby when he suddenly came downstairs one evening whilst Stoick was sat at the table doing some chiefly duties and the girls were making dinner.

"I'm going to add to the map." He suddenly announced.

"What?" Caverna was the first to speak, she never missed a trick, even when something as sudden as that happened.

"I'm going to add to Berk's map of the archipelago." Hiccup told them defiantly.

"You know what, that actually sounds like a good idea." Astrid finally spoke up, looking at Caverna who nodded.

"Yeah, if you want the help Hiccup, I'd happily do it with you, imagine what we could learn." Caverna told them.

"Wait a second, it's way too dangerous." Stoick told them.

"Dad, we'll be fine, we'll have our dragons." Hiccup told him and after a bit of persuasion from both him and his sister, Hiccup saw his dad relent.

So during the past few months, Stoick had seen the map grow in epic proportions, each time they went out they had added two or three new things to it. But now Hiccup had started to become slightly obsessed with it, like he did with all of his projects, especially now that Stoick was close to choosing who should succeed him in the near future and Hiccup was never interested. Admittedly though, it was a hard choice, both his son and his daughter were ready to be chieftain, but the law stated that Hiccup was to be his successor, and that is who he had to choose. So he was going to get is daughter to talk her brother, but since Hiccup's announcement about the map, he'd never gotten his children alone, well until now, the map may have been Hiccup's obsession, but Dragon Racing was his daughter's.

As he watched Caverna make them both some dinner, Stoick steeled himself for the topic of the succession, and when he felt ready, he cleared his throat rather loudly, the sound getting Caverna to look up almost straight away.

"Caverna, you know that with being Hiccup's younger sister, you most likely won't become chieftain, right?" Stoick asked her.

"Yeah I know." She told him, going back to making some dinner for the pair of them.

"But our brother will be; which is why I need you to...talk to him..."

"Talk to him?" Caverna asked, putting some meat and bread in front of her father as she put some by her seat at the table.

"Yes, I need you to make him see that he is ready to become Chieftain." Stoick told her.

"Dad, if Hiccup doesn't feel ready, then he isn't ready." Caverna shrugged. "No amount of talking will change that."

"I understand that, but I don't think he has all the facts, maybe if you could share what it was like or you when you were ruling Brock's village with Eridor, then maybe he could make a more informed choice?" Stoick asked and at seeing the look f hope on her father's face, Caverna couldn't say no, so she simply sighed.

"Alright, if I can, I will try and talk to him." Caverna told him.

"Excellent, that's the spirit." Stoick praised her as he started to eat.

"You know dad?" Caverna spoke when she had finished and was taking the plates to be washed.

"Yes Caverna?"

"You're actually not as tough as you make out to be." Caverna told him.

Stoick rolled his eyes, he knew Caverna was only messing around, so he didn't think much of it as he stood up.

"Well, I'm going back to work, Gobber needs help in the forge, I shall see you tonight Caverna."

"Bye dad." Caverna watched him leave as she dried and put away their dishes.

Later that afternoon, Caverna was sat by the fireplace, Snowcap at her side ad she was drawing in a sketchbook that Hiccup had given her. It wasn't anything special, just another impression of a flight suit for herself; wondering if she could change the designs, when the door flew open and her cousin stood there.

"Snotlout, will you learn to knock?" Caverna asked, looking up at him.

"Sorry, but Stoick's asking for you, apparently it's important." Snotlout told her.

Caverna nodded and she put her sketchbook down, before she and Snowcap walked outside and the minute the riders had mounted their dragons, they were flying into the air. When they were close to the dragon stables, Snotlout broke off; going to do the other task that Stoick had given him - wrangling the Tiny Terrors - whilst Caverna flew into the stables. When she got there, she found Hiccup and Stoick arguing, so she let Snowcap land next to Toothless and Stormfly and she dismounted, letting them play as she walked to Astrid.

"What are they arguing about this time?" Caverna asked, pulling her mask down.

Astrid looked at her. "Hiccup and I were attacked by Dragon Snatchers; they claimed to be working with some guy called Drago Bloodvist." Astrid told her and she saw a familiar look in her sister-in-law's eye. "You know him don't you?"

"Not personally, but I know what he's like, and he really is bad news Astrid." Caverna told her as they both watched Hiccup and Stoick's arguement unfold, before Hiccup flew off out of the stable, and Caverna turned just in time to see Astrid leave after him. However, Stoick grabbed her wrist as she was about to follow them.

"Not you Caverna, you need to go and get your friends together, we're going to bring him back by force if necessary." Stoick told her and Caverna sighed, as he went to sort the other dragons out and she went to find her friends.

Eventually, she had all of the teens rounded up inside the stables with their dragons and by now Lightning had wandered over to Caverna and was nudging her every few minutes.

"It's alright boy, we'll find them." Caverna told her dragon, stroking his beak.

"What's going on Caverna?" Fishlegs asked, walking over to her and gently taking her free hand.

"I don't know really." Caverna told him. "Dad told me to come and get you all together."

"I did and I'm glad that one of my children is still listening to me." Stoick told them as he landed Skullcrusher in front of the group, and Gobber landed on his dragon, Grump, beside Stoick.

Caverna kept quiet as she looked at her father, before she stroked Snowcap's head as Lightning watched them. "What's the plan, dad?" Caverna asked her father, looking up at him.

"We are going to get your brother, and Astrid." Stoick told her. "Your uncle will be looking after the village until we get back."

Caverna nodded and she looked back at Lightning. "I need you to stay here and help mu Uncle." She told him, kissing his beak. "Be good."

Lightning looked at her and he nodded, seeming to understand her, before he flew off towards where he had seen Spitlout. When Lightning had gone, Caverna mounted Snowcap's back and she looked at her father and friends as they all mounted their dragons, before they followed Stoick and Gobber as they flew off. As they got into the air, Stoick looked over at his daughter.

"Caverna, can Snowcap find him?"

"She can." She leant forward to rest a hand on Snowcap's head. "Find Toothless, Snow, you can do it."

Snowcap looked back at her rider and she gave her a sound of confirmation, before she felt Caverna press low to her back and she shot off, but making sure that everyone could still see and follow her as she searched for her mate.

The eventually found the ship that Hiccup had been telling his father about during their earlier argument, and she watched as her friends flew down and Snotlout suddenly grabbed Hiccup.

"Snotlout!" Hiccup cried as he was pulled higher into the air.

Snotlout just gave him a smug look, before he looked over at Ruffnut. "See how I care and provide?"

Ruffnut looked at him and she looked like she was about to vomit and she had Barf and Belch fly faster, trying to dodge nets.

"What's with all the nets?" Tuffnut shouted.

Caverna saw that there was a net going towards the twins and she nudged Snowcap's side and the dragon flew straight at it, blasting it into smithereens just as it was about to go around Ruffnut. Though Caverna recognised a look of awe on Ruffnut's face, and she looked in the direction that her friend was looking in and she saw a well muscled man, with dark hair, brooding eyes and tattoos covering parts of his body. The she saw Astrid, and her father, and as her father landed, she landed next to him, resting a hand on Snowcap's head as Toothless bounded down from the sails and nuzzled his mate.

"Two Night Furies?"

Caverna looked up and saw the guy that Ruffnut was still staring at and she raised an eyebrow. "Yes, two Night Furies." She told him, getting off of her dragon's back, just as the man was about to reach out and touch the dragons, Caverna suddenly went for him, and she ended up pinning him to the floor, his hands pulled behind his back.

"What the hell?" The man shouted.

"Who are you?" Stoick asked him.

"Eret, Son of Eret." The man told him. "Someone who is going to cause yo-" He suddenly screamed as Caverna pulled hard on his arms, one of her feet pushing his chest forward.

"Yeah yeah, let me tell you something, you can try." Caverna told him, before Eret suddenly threw her off him and onto the floor. Eret soon got o his feet and drew his sword, turning to look at Caverna as she sat up from where she had hit the floor, and her hood an mask fell down, causing Eret to pause and stare at her.

Shewas the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen, her dark auburn hair falling down her back now that she wasn't wearing her hood, and her hazel eyes, steeled with such ferociousness and promises of pain and torment...She was gorgeous. However, he suddenly found himself looking up at the sky as he landed hard on his back on the deck of the ship and Caverna was stood over him, a sword at his throat, though she wasn't looking at him, but at Hiccup and Stoick.

"Hiccup, we're going home!" Stoick ordered.

"No dad, I really think that I could make Drago see sense." Hiccup was telling him, his voice almost pleading with his father to let him complete the task that he had set himself. "After all, I made you see sense."

"Drago Bloodvist isn't like me Hiccup, he will kill you." Stoick told him son.

"Hiccup, for once, just listen to dad." Caverna told him as Grump, who was Gobber's dragon, ended up sitting on the man that she had held down with a sword pointed at him. with the man held down, Caverna walked to her brother and father and she stood in between them.

"Hiccup, dad is right, Drago Bloodvist is a mad man." Caverna told him. "He won't listen to anyone, let alone a twenty year old like you."

Hiccup looked at his sister frustration clear on his face. "That may be what you think, but I'm still going." Hiccup told them, and he pushed past his sister before he got onto Toothless' back and rider and dragon flew off, soon getting lost in the clouds.

Watching them go, Caverna sighed and she noticed that Stoick had stopped Astrid as she was about to take off after her husband.

"No, lead the others back to Berk."Stoick told Astrid who looked instantly deflated at her orders. "I've had enough mutiny for one day." He continued as he walked back to his daughter and best friend, though he noticed that Ruffnut had lay down beside Eret and was stroking his arm. "Ruffnut, go home!" He ordered.

At the order the other blonde groaned. "Okay!" he moaned, before she reluctantly left her new piece of eye candy and got back onto her dragon, flying off with Snotlout following.

"Caverna, Gobber and I will go and search for Hiccup, the rest of you go back to Berk." Stoick told them as he mounted his dragon once more.

As Stoick and Gobber went into the air, Caverna stayed on the deck of the ship for a little longer, since Fishlegs had landed Meatlug next to Snowcap and she was looking up at him.

"Be safe." Fishlegs told her.

"Don't worry, I will." She told him with a small smile, pulling her hood up, before she leant her head into his hand as he gently rested a hand on her left cheek. "Look after the others, and please be the voice of reason to Astrid."

"I will." Fishlegs smiled, leaning down as Caverna leant up and they shared a fleeting kiss, before Caverna pulled away and pulled her mask up over her mouth to just under her eyes and she ran back to her dragon, jumping onto her back and they flew off in opposite directions to her friends, catching up with Stoick and Gobber. As they left, Eret watched them go, he had seen the exchange between Fishlegs and Caverna and he had seen the love and protectiveness that they felt towards each other in their actions towards each other and only one thing was going through his mind. How did he get someone like her!
