Months had gone past since the tradition of a bonfire to celebrate the dead was made and the Haddock siblings had grown accustomed to being without their father. If anything, Stoick's death had brought them closer, but Valka still remained distant from her daughter, though it is not like Caverna noticed, she was mainly training Eret and helping her brother on scouting missions. Though at that moment, they were both lounging in the sun outside of what was now Caverna's home and Hiccup's old family home, Toothless and Snowcap were curled up together not far away, basking in the sunlight.

"What's on the agenda for today?" Caverna asked.

"Nothing really." Hiccup told her. "Everything is cleared up from Drago's attack and Astrid, Gobber and Valka had told the two young Vikings to take a rest for the day, hence the way they were lounging around armour and weapon less.

"Oh right..." She sighed.

"Which leaves this as the perfect time for us two to talk." Hiccup told her, haring her groan.

"There isn't anything more to talk about." Caverna told him.

"That's not true and you know it." Hiccup told her, sitting up and leaning on one arm so that he could look at her.

"It's just relationship stuff that you won't understand." Caverna told him.

"Tell me anyway." Hiccup encouraged.

"Look, Hiccup, it's nothing, Fishlegs and I am just going through a rough patch, it's nothing that I can't handle." Caverna promised her big brother, looking at him as he looked at her.

"Promise?"

"I promise." She told him with a smile.

After a while, the two decided to go and find everyone else, and they climbed onto their saddles and had their dragons fly around looking for Astrid and Fishlegs. Eventually, they found them both heading to the Great Hall.

"Hey guys." Caverna smiled as she landed Snowcap on the ground and when her rider had dismounted, Snowcap ran to Stormfly and Meatlug and all of the females seemed to be having a rather secret conversation.

"Hey you two, how has your day of relaxation been?" Astrid asked with a smile as she slid her arms around Hiccup.

"It's been great." Caverna smiled, yet she and Fishlegs didn't embrace each other like they normally would, and this caused an air of curiosity to occur.

"Is everything okay with you two?" Astrid asked as Fishlegs walked away.

"It's just a rough patch." Caverna shrugged.

Astrid raised an eyebrow before she let it go and she walked off towards the Great Hall with her husband and her sister-in-law. They all reached the Great Hall just as people were starting to fill it and they all sat at the chief's table after finding Valka and Gobber sitting with Spitlout and Astrid's mother and father. As they all sat down, and started toget some food, Astrid decided to strike up a conversation that Caverna hardly ever expected to have, or at least not for a while.

"Hiccup and I will be leaving you in charge soon." She told her.

Caverna just looked at her and then to Hiccup and then back. "What do you mean?"

"Well, in a few weeks, Hiccup and I have something that we need to do, which means that we won't be able to concentrate on running the village, so Hiccup thought that it would be a good idea to let you run the village." Astrid explained with a shrug.

"Then I accept." She smiled at them. "May I ask what you're doing though?" Caverna asked.

"We are going to try for a baby." Hiccup whispered to her, making sure that no one else heard.

"That's amazing." Caverna whispered back, quickly hugging Astrid since she was sitting next to her. "Don't worry, no one else will find out."

The couple nodded to her and thy all set about tucking into their meal, meanwhile, back at the table which was full of their friends, Fishlegs was watching his food miserably whilst the twins tried to have a joke and laugh with him.

"Come on Fishlegs, what's the matter?" Heather asked, looking over at him.

"Nothing..." He told her.

"Oh come on Fishlegs, you know that I don't buy that, come on, let's go outside and talk." She suggested and after a few minutes, Fishlegs and Heather left the Great Hall and they walked around.

"So, come on, what's wrong?" She asked again.

Fishlegs sighed. "It's me and Caverna; we're going through a rough patch." Fishlegs sighed as he spoke. "I don't like fighting with her, but we've been doing a lot of it recently."

"What over?" Heather asked, she had seen the two arguing and she'd always thought that Caverna was unstable to have a relationship, but this was making her more and more sure, she had to help Fishlegs he didn't deserve to argue with someone every day.

"I keep trying to impress her, she keeps telling me to stop." Fishlegs sighed. "I know, it sounds silly."

"No, it doesn't."She told him quickly. "But if you have to prove yourself to her all the time, then no offence Fishlegs, the relationship can't be based on much."

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked her, stopping from walking so that he could look at her.

"What I mean is, if anything, she should be the one who is trying to impress you all the time, especially with her problems." Heather told her. "Maybe the arguing is a sign that you two aren't meant to be together."

That was it, from that point, what Heather had said was stuck in Fishleg's head, was he and Caverna meant to be together? Of course he loved her, but did she really love him? Could the fact that she was telling him to stop impressing her, be because she didn't want to feel the guilt of stringing him along in this relationship? From there, he had made up his mind, he was going to confront Caverna Haddock.

"Thanks Heather, you've actually opened my eyes." He told her. "I'll talk to you later." He told her as he headed back to the Great Hall and up the steps. Upon reaching the door, he pushed it open and found that it had filled up dramatically since he and Heather had left, and he stalked towards the Chief's table. Everyone who saw him, moved out of the way and those he passed fell silent until the only sound was from the Chief's table, when Hiccup saw his friend.

"Hey Fishlegs, fancy joining us?" Hiccup asked.

"What is with you?" Fishlegs suddenly asked, looking straight at Caverna, he was suddenly furious at her.

"Okay then..." Hiccup muttered, watching the two.

Caverna looked at Fishlegs and she saw how furious he was but she was clueless as to why. "I don't know what you mean." Caverna told him truthfully.

"Don't give me that lie!" Fishlegs suddenly shouted. "You've argued non-stop with me for days, and now you're avoiding me at every turn!"

"If you wish to finally discuss our private matter, Fishlegs, then I would like to take this somewhere more private." Caverna told him, she was wonderfully calm despite the severely pissed off Fishlegs in front of her.

"No we will discuss this here." Fishlegs told her.

"Alright." Caverna told him. "But I will not discuss it over a table." She told him and she walked out to him, so that was standing in front of him. "Now what would you like to discuss?"

They both stood there toe to toe, almost eye to eye, if Fishlegs wasn't a few inches taller than Caverna, they both had their arms crossed over their chests and Fishlegs held a fire that no one had ever seen before, but Caverna wasn't afraid.

"I keep arguing with you because you keep trying to impress me, and I keep asking you not to." She told him. "I don't intend to argue with you Fishlegs." She told him, still calm.

"But you still do, are you really void of anything else but arguing?" He asked.

This struck Caverna straight to the core, he knew the problems she faced, why she acted the way she did. "You know that I'm not." She told him and despite the fact that he looked ready to hit her, she gently touched his face with one of her hands. "I ask you not to because I don't deserve you." She told him."You know that I've never deserved what we had, just like you don't deserve to be childless." She told him. "We only argue because you ignore my requests."

The way she spoke and how she looked at him made Fishlegs calm down, but he still needed one answer from her. "Then why do you flirt with other men?" He asked.

"I don't." She told him. "That is where you're paranoid." She reminded him. "The only men that I'm around, is Eret, who I work with to help him with his flying, Hiccup, who we all know is my brother, Snotlout, who is my cousin and Tuffnut who is my friend and I work with the other males in the village to help protect and serve our village." She told him. "The only man that I would flirt with is you, because I'm in love with you." She told him.

The whole crowd watched in silence as Caverna moved away from Fishlegs and she left the Great Hall, no one knew exactly where she was going, but they had an idea, and when she was gone, everyone looked at Fishlegs who wasn't moving. He was stood there watching the floor, he felt stupid, he'd let everyone else get to him and he's obviously hurt his girlfriend's feelings, suddenly he gathered up his resolve and whatever pride he had left and he followed her.

Caverna walked through the village and straight into the forest, she couldn't help but think about what had just happened. Fishlegs had suddenly got a fire in his belly and if she was ever truthful, that had impressed her more than when he won races or tried to beat Eret. But she wasn't going to tell him that, in fact she wasn't planning on saying anything to him or to anyone. Getting to her destination, which was soon deemed as the cove, she took off her belt which held her two swords that were strapped to her waist and she sat on a rock overlooking the lake. As she sat there, she heard the rush of pebbles as someone walked towards her, but it wasn't who she had expected.

"What are you doing here, Snotlout?" She asked.

"I came to make sure that you were okay." He told her.

"I'm a bit surprised that it wasn't Fishlegs or Hiccup, but other than that, I'm fine." She told him with a shrug.

"Yeah, Hiccup was quietening the villagers and Fishlegs got distracted by Heather." He sighed.

"Why does that not surprise me, they have been hanging around a lot more recently." She sighed.

"You really hate her don't you?" Snotlout asked, and he noticed his cousin's stiff nod.

"Could he possibly like her more than me?" Caverna asked. "I mean, she's better for him, she can give him a family and all of that, but until today, he's been telling me how much he loves me and doing all of these stupid things to prove it."

"Stop it." Snotlout told her. "He does love you, Heather's just butting in, and to be honest, I can't see what attracted me to her." Snotlout told her.

Caverna simply shrugged. "By the way, Hiccup and Astrid are putting me in charge in a few days." She told him.

"That's great...But why?" Snotlout asked.

Caverna simply shrugged and the two stayed there for a while longer, until the moon was high and the air was cold enough to freeze your spleen, and only then did they return back to the village, bidding each other goodnight before they went to their own homes.

Meanwhile, as Caverna went inside her home, Lightning and Snowcap were curled up by the fireplace with Toothless who had taken a break from being at Hiccup and Astrid's house to see his mate and get some peace. All of the dragons watched the warrior as she unhooked her jacket and hung it on the back of a chair, and then she bid them goodnight before she traipsed up the stairs to bed. When they heard the door close, the dragons all looked at each other.

"Now I'm worried." Snowcap told the two males on either side of her.

"If I see that chubby human again, he's going to become my play toy." Lightning squawked, his spines ruffled.

"But that would hurt Caverna and Meatlug." Toothless interjected.

"I could do worse, at least then he would be alive, and how dare he embarrass her like that, and in front of the whole village!" Lightning argued.

"Lightning, Toothless, calm down." Snowcap told them, quickly making sure that she was between them in case it turned into a fight. "Look, you've both got a point, but we need to be realistic, Caverna can deal with this herself, she's smart enough, and we'll be there on call if she wants you to eat him, okay?" She told her brother, looking between him and Toothless.

"Alright." Both males sighed, and Toothless nuzzled his mate as Lightning left through the back door, going to find Stormfly. When Lightning had left, Snowcap licked Toothless' snout as she looked at him.

"I love you, my Alpha." Snowcap told him and the way she called him Alpha, always got his pulse racing, and this time was no exception, he soon found himself on top of her.

"Well, someone's eager." Snowcap told him with a giggle.

"Always." Toothless purred, before Snowcap pushed herself onto her front and she raised herself up just enough and she gave out a pleased sigh as Toothless entered her. And that was how the two dragons spent their night, wrapped in the embrace of mating.

The next day, Caverna was walking down to the well with Snowcap and she was carrying the buckets. When she got there, she found it empty, so she set about collecting some water in the buckets, but just as she was about to leave on her dragon, she felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned to see Fishlegs there.

"If you've come to break up then please don't sugars coat it for me."

"I've not come to break up with you." He told her. "I've come to apologise."

"Apologise?" She asked him. "Do you really think that just an apology is going to make everything better?" She asked.

"Well, no, but an apology will be the start, and then maybe flowers to decorate every surface of your home, a picnic by the waterfall, or in the cove...I could go on." Fishlegs told her and he saw the smile playing on her lips.

"Well, if you do all that, then I will definitely consider your apology and gifts." She told him, though the corners of her mouth were tugged up slightly, in a smile.

"So, am I forgiven, for now?" Fishlegs asked.

Caverna looked at him and she raised an eyebrow. "For now, you are forgiven and we will move on from what happened, if you promise to never do something like that again."

"I promise." He told her, wrapping his arms around her, making Caverna smiled.

"Alright, I'll forgive you." She smiled, kissing his lips gently.

Fishlegs kissed her just as gently, maybe everything was going to be alright now, and maybe they would be able to move on from everything and somehow have their own life.
