Later on in the week, Caverna was sat in the Great Hall, she was watching over the village whilst her brother an his wife took time away together. This also meant that Lightning and Snowcap were acting Alphas in the place of Toothless who was taking some time away to relax. That and Toothless felt that even know that Snowcap was also an Alpha through being his mate, he felt that her egg brother should standby her in case any trouble erupted. However, Hiccup had no such qualms about his sister being in charge, and only Caverna knew the real reason why Hiccup and Astrid had taken some time away. With Gothi's help, they were going to try to have another baby. Deep down, Caverna was overjoyed at the news, but she was also worried. What is she was cured to bring bad luck, what if she stopped Astrid from conceiving, or the baby died in the womb or it was even born dead? Caverna could not bear the pain that that would bring to her family. Yet now, she had no time to dwell on anything, but those who stood before her.
"He keeps stealing my side of the land." One man was telling her.
"Only because you keep taking from my land." The other told him.
Caverna could see that they were about to start a physical fight, not just one of words, so she rested an hand on either of her swords before she spoke.
"How bi is the lag in which you speak of?" She asked, looking towards her Uncle who was her advisor and stood a small bit away from the steps leading to the Chief's chair.
"It is around 5 fields, Caverna." Her Uncle told her.
"Then they can each have two fields and we split the fifth field in half. Once it is divided, we will build a fence around each portion to keep them separate." Caverna reasoned.
"And how do you suppose we o that?" Mildew asked, sceptically.
"Fishlegs, would you oversee the dividing of the land, and then help o collect the rocks to build the wall?" Caverna asked who looked at her boyfriend and nodded.
"Of course I would." Fishlegs nodded.
"Good." Caverna nodded. "All dragon riders will assist in the collecting of the rocks and Uncle Spitlout, and Snotlout, could you both works together with your Nightmares, to construct it, but providing the fir to meld the rocks into place?"
Both father and son nodded and Caverna sent them all on their way as she sat back i the chair and gave a hefty sigh.
"Rough day?" Her mother asked as she moved to stand next to her.
"Rough few hours more like, I swear if I hear one more argument over land, I'll behead the speaker." She groaned. "I bet dad never had to deal with this many arguments over land."
Her mother just smiled. "No, mostly because of the Dragon attacks there was no land to fight over."
"If I had to deal with that, I would have beheaded every human who mentioned it." She sighed and rubbed the top of Snowcap's head as she sat up from where she had been lying beside her rider.
"Is there something else on your mind besides all of the chiefing?" Valka asked.
"What if those women were right, what if I am cursed to bring bad luck to the village? What if Hiccup and Astrid can't conceive because of me?" She asked with a sigh that caused Snowcap to nuzzle her.
"Caverna, you're not cursed; everything is going to be fine." Valka promised, but even Caverna could see that Valka doubted her words and that was something that Caverna couldn't stand, and she pushed herself to her feet.
"I'm going to go for a ride around Berk, make sure that everything is as it should be." She climbed onto Snowcap's back as she spoke, before she got Snowcap into the air and dragon and rider flew out of the Great Hall, leaving a sighing Valka where she had stood. At seeing Caverna leave, Gobber walked over and gently patted her shoulder.
"It's alright Val, she'll come around."
Valka looked at him. "Are you sure?"
"Aye, Caverna's a tough one but even she needs a parent's care some of the time." He promised her. "Just give her time."
Valka nodded. "You're right, she needs time, and it hasn't exactly been long since I came back."
Gobber nodded and together the two adults went down to the forge where there was a list a mile long of things that needed making to continue fixing the village.
Meanwhile, Caverna was flying high into the sky and she looked at Snowcap who grumbled at her.
"It's a lot easier for Hiccup, he can have children and he is the chief, no one dares to talk about the chief." She sighed as she moved to lie back in the saddle. "We need a holiday Snowcap, something just me, you and Lightning, like a family."
"Yeah right, you wouldn't leave Fishlegs and Lightning certainly wouldn't leave Stormfly, keeping dreaming my human." Snowcap grumbled in reply.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, we're needed here." Caverna sighed.
"Very much so." Snowcap told her. "Now cheer up, you have a dinner with your lover later whilst his parents are away, put your mind to that."
Caverna had done exactly that, and she sighed to herself as she watched the sky, both rider and dragon remained like this for a while, until Caverna had Snowcap turn to go towards the fields that were being argued over that morning and she saw the work. So far, two separate walls were in the process of being built and Snotlout, Spitlout and Fishlegs were observing them both.
"How's it going?" Caverna asked as she hovered on Snowcap just above them.
"It's going fine, Cuz." Snotlout told her with a smile. "We should be done by the feast tonight."
"Great, make sure you keep my updated on everything, and maybe now this will help put their argument to rest." Caverna told them.
"I doubt that Caverna, but it will be a start." Her uncle told her as he asked Lightning to melt some rocks into place, with a hand signal that he'd learnt from his young niece.
Caverna sighed as she watched her dragon do his job, before she felt a hand on hers and she saw that Fishlegs had placed his hand over hers.
"Don't forget, you're coming over for dinner tonight."
"How could I possibly forget?" She asked him with a smile.
"You never know, but you can be quite forgetful." He told her with a laugh but he soon regretted it as Caverna dug her elbow into his side. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry." He smiled.
"You better be." Caverna smiled, before she leant over and kissed his cheek. "I'd best go and see to the rest of the village, I'll come by your house later." She promised before she took the reins to her dragon and she flew off, back towards the village.
The duo eventually landed in the village square, and as they walked many villagers stopped so say hello or good afternoon, and talk to her for a while. Though she was grateful that most of the things said were about her and asking how her day had been, instead of talking about village problems. Though suddenly there was a flurry of excitement and many people ran towards the docks with something in their hands, and that was when Caverna remembered: Trader Johan was back. She stood on the cliff watching people line up to see the trader and his spoils, before eventually she walked down the stairs to him and she looked around at the things he carried on his boat.
"Ah, the young stand-in-Chieftess." He called as he spotted Caverna. "Is there anything that I can tempt you with?"
"Not at the moment Trader Johan, I am merely here to observe today, there's nothing that I seriously need." She told him.
"Ah right, well Lass, if you see anything, don't be afraid to let me know." Trader Johan told her as he went to serve another customer.
Caverna hovered a few moments longer, before she whistled and held a hand up in the air, which served a purpose when Snowcap swooped down and picked her up in her toothless mouth and threw her onto her back, and together they flew back around the village, stopping to help those who needed it. Later on that night, back in their hut, Hiccup and Astrid were snuggled up in bed, hot and sweaty after another love making session, Hiccup having his arms around her and holding her against him.
"It's nice having time together, isn't it?" Astrid asked in the silence.
"Mhmm, it is, how nice of my little sister to take control for the day." Hiccup told her with a small chuckle.
"Hiccup, she didn't exactly have a choice." Astrid pointed out.
"I know, but she still could have said no." Hiccup reminded her as he kissed and nipped at her neck.
"Mmm." Astrid gasped. "Hiccup." She turned over so that she was facing him and she claimed his lips with his.
Their kiss was eventually broken by a loud knocking on the door and Mildew's voice asking for the chief.
"Go away Mildew, take your problem to Caverna." Hiccup shouted down, before he was pushed onto his back by Astrid as she straddled him.
"Ignore him babe." She told him, rubbing herself against his erection, causing him to groan.
"I won't have a problem with that." He told her, suddenly sitting up causing them both to groan at the friction and he kissed her lips, but they were soon broke apart when there was a fierce hammering on the door downstairs.
"Whoever this is has perfectly pissed me off." Astrid told him as she threw one of Hiccup's shirts on and went downstairs, however she got a shock when she pulled open the door to reveal her father.
"Daddy...What...Um...Brings you here?" She asked, blushing at seeing that Hiccup's shirt didn't cover that much of her, and her father was trying not to blush as well.
"Caverna has asked for you, there is a ship on fire over the water, and rogue ships are attacking it." He told her.
Astrid nodded, suddenly in battle mode. "We will join her soon daddy, I'll get Hiccup." She watched her father run back into the village before she ran upstairs shouting her husband's name.
Not long after, Astrid and Hiccup mounted their dragons and they flew over to where Snotlout was waiting for them, and he gave them a cocky smile.
"Have we interrupted something?" He asked.
"Shut up Snotlout." Astrid told him, before they all set out over the ocean where they could see the blasts of fire and explosions that came from battling dragons. As they got closer, they heard the cry of a Night Fury, but it wasn't its normal sound, it was obviously Snowcap, but she sounded like she was in pain, and then they saw why. Snowcap had been caught by her neck by another dragon's mouth, and this dragon was a Nadder, and he was much bigger than Snowcap, who was trying to get free by scratching at the dragon but she couldn't move enough because there was something else – Caverna was caught on her saddle and she was dangling from the saddle as Snowcap was shook like a ragdoll by this older and bigger dragon.
"Hold on Snowcap!" Toothless shouted, before without Hiccup realising, Toothless shot at the other dragon, but he was beaten there by Lightning who tackled the other dragon off of the Night Fury and both dragons landed into the water. However, this had given Caverna and Snowcap time to allow Snowcap to swing her body and bring Caverna onto her saddle properly and then dragon and rider went back to the battle.
"Are you alright?" Hiccup shouted over to his sister.
"Yeah, sorry to drag you and Astrid out here." Caverna told him.
"It's alright." He told her with a soft smile, before they were soon separated, Hiccup going to help his cousin fend off a dragon and Caverna going to help the twins. Eventually the battle with the dragons was over, but now it was the battle of the flames, and that was something that they needed to pray to the gods over.
