"I'll see you girls this afternoon." Rene smiled, giving me a hug. "If you need anything at all, give me a call." She now moved to Cindy, to give her a kiss to the top of her head.

Cindy smiled up at her with chocolate brown eyes; that matched mine, they shined in joy. "Bye momma."

"Don't worry about it mom." I reassured her.

"Okay, I love you both, have a good day." With that she speedily made her way out the door, leaving Cindy and I alone.

I never understood why Rene was so worried to leave the both of us alone. But I suppose she was just being a good mother, I couldn't have asked for a better woman in my life.

My father and Rene married about four years ago, within the next year, they had Cindy. When Cindy was born, I wasn't entirely thrilled about the idea of having to share my father, or my new mother, but things weren't as bad as I had thought. Cindy had just celebrated her third birthday last week, she possessed mostly the same features as me. The only thing that set us far apart was the dark ebony curls on the top of her head.

After taking Cindy, and laying her down for a nap, I went outside with one of my favorite books, and took a seat on the porch swing. Thankfully the Fork's weather was mild today, it wasn't raining, and I could get away with only being out in a light jacket. Forks was usually a dark, and cool area to reside in, but I didn't mind that. Like my father, we were extremely used to Forks, it was Rene that was relatively new to the area.

Rene was born in the riveting city of Downey California, she was used to the fast pace, and the nightlife. It was nothing like how it was here in Forks. I often times heard her speaking of her old life back in California, and how possibly moving to a similar area in the future would be something she would want. I didn't need to hear what my father had to say, to already know this wasn't something he would particularly want.

I hoped they would find a way to agree on something.

I wasn't sure how long I sat on the porch, I was so deeply invested in the book that I hadn't even noticed that a light rain had started. I continued for a while until the rain got harder. Quickly I walked inside, and checked on Cindy. She seemed to be sleeping peacefully, her tiny legs moving around. She was cute, I could only imagine what she would be like when she was older.

Would she be quiet, and responsible like dad? Or would she be adventurous, and spontaneous like Rene?

As I made my way to my room, I gasped as I saw a figure standing by the window. My heart dropped to the bottom of chest, every cell of my body was screaming at me to run from the room and call for the police. But I couldn't move, I was completely frozen in place.

The figure now slinked more into the light, revealing a very familiar woman. She offered me a vibrant smile, with eyes as blue as the sky. There was a wild rustle to her features, and she moved as if she was an out of control animal.

"Isabella, you've truly blossomed into a beautiful young lady." Even her voice held a familiar note that I just couldn't recall.

"Who are you." I stuttered, slowly inching my way towards the light switch, but she moved quickly in the way of the switch.

"I couldn't help myself, I had to see you once more," She lightly touched my cheek. "Someday my sweet, all your questions will be answered."

I paused, shifting away from her strange touch.

She wasn't making much sense, for a moment I wondered further into her words. A thought came to me, that had hope filling me. "Are you my mother?"

The woman didn't respond, her smile not faltering. "Goodbye my Isabella,"

With that, the woman flew from my sight, jumping out of the open window.

I gasped, quickly moving to the window, but it was to late, she was already completely gone from sight. How had she managed to jump out of a two story window, and leave the area so fast? Had I just imagined that whole thing.

No, I couldn't have. That touch… I had felt it, without question. Who was this woman? Why was she so familiar? For most of my life, I couldn't really get my dad to talk about my mother. He had only offered a few words about her.

She was a very unique woman, he told me her name was Vanna, and he had mentioned from time to time, that she had changed him for the better.

I didn't push for much more information, because I could see how much the topic made him feel uncomfortable. But still, I spent many nights imaging our first meeting.

That woman that had been in my room, I had never met her, I was sure of it, but there was just something a connection that I felt towards her. I didn't understand this, but I decided that I would keep this to myself. The last thing I wanted to do was worry my dad, and Rene.

When Rene made it home, I had Cindy on the couch, coloring in her book, and watching some TV. She was a rather quiet child, the most she would speak was when she needed something. Like a snack, or help opening something.

Rene gave us a smile as she came in, hanging up her jacket, and setting down her bag. "How are my girls?"

Cindy turned to face Rene, she waved. "Hi momma."

Rene lightly took a seat on the couch with Cindy, pulling her into a close hug. "Hi baby girl." She now turned to grin at me. "Was everything ok today?"

I nodded, pushing the thoughts from that woman that had been in my room from my mind. "Everything was fine, how was work?"

"Well Forks hospital isn't exactly the most glamourous job, but they treat me very well there."

Rene had been working as a certified nursing assistant at the hospital for a few years now, she had said that it was her passion, but as the years went by that passion seemed to be dying more and more. Rene usually had a fair amount of complaints about it when she came home, so I was surprised that she had nothing to say about today.

"Any idea when dad is coming home tonight?" I wondered, playing with a piece of Cindy's cute little ebony locks.

"Well he actually will be home early tonight, Billy and his kids will be joining us for dinner to watch the game."

In a way, this didn't bother me to much, I got along well with Rachel and Rebecca Black, as for their little brother Jacob, well he was slightly annoying. For this reason I was thankful I had a little sister, instead of a little brother.

"Does that mean we are ordering pizza?" I smiled at the thought.

Rene nodded, seeming lost in her own thoughts. "Yeah, I'm sure our guests are hoping for an edible meal, and to be honest, between Charlie and I, we aren't to gifted in the kitchen." She chuckled.

That was very true. Both of my parents weren't the best cooks, Rene at least attempted to prepare a meal once in a while, but for the most part I would help her, and we usually could make something decent.

For a while, Rene, Cindy and I relaxed, talked about our day, and just did the fun mother daughter bonding that I always looked forward to.

As it came closer to dinner time my dad made it home as well, which was a very nice change. Usually my dad would be home just in time to see me off to bed. Some days I would wake up early to have breakfast with him before he went out to work, but I wasn't much of a morning person.

Now that my dad recently got his big promotion to police chief of his squad we didn't see him as much as we would like. This always seemed to bother Rene, but times where hard, she understood that we depended on that income to make it through.

"Hey dad," I turned to see him setting down his gun, and putting the safety on. "How was your day?"

"Good Bells," He nodded, giving me a grin, before walking over to the rest of us. He landed his hands on Rene's shoulders, leaning down to plant a kiss at the top of her head. "Billy and the gang should be stopping by in any minute, hope that's alright."

Rene nodded with a content smile. "I'll go order the pizza." She touched his hands, before getting up to head towards the phone.

For a while, my dad sat down next to me, and played with Cindy. We talked briefly, but for the most part, he told me some of the horror stories of what he had to deal with today. He spoke of robbery, and death, but the strangest of his stories where the animal attacks dotting the area from Forks to La Push. His job seemed so interesting, and exciting. Ever since I had been young I wanted to be in the career as him, law enforcement had to be one of the most rewarding occupations.

A couple knocks on the door suddenly got our attention. Rene made her way over quickly, and answered the door. The pizza had came right in time, for Billy and his kids to arrive as well. We opened up four boxes of pizza, it was my understanding that Billy, Jacob and my dad could throw down pizza like it was nothing.

We all crowded around the couch, slices of pizza where passed around as the game was flipped on. For the most part Rachel, Rebecca, and I went in the kitchen to eat at the table. We all got along well, talking about school and boys, and planning days that we could possibly do a sleepover.

In the living room, Billy, my dad and Jacob watched the game. Rene had taken Cindy up for bed, and probably decided to head in for bed herself, she wasn't much for watching sports.

"So this boy in my class, Paul, he is a complete jerk, but… he is just so hot." Rachel admitted, her face all pink. "I wish that he would notice me."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "Consider you are like one of the only girls that he doesn't mess around with." She turned to me with a look. "He is one of the biggest womanizers I've ever seen."

"What about you Bella, any hotties at Forks worth mentioning?" Rachel shrugging, a grin coming to her face.

I chewed my lip, hesitating to share any information. After a little bit of begging from the both of them, I decided to tell them. "Well it's nothing official, but I may have been talking to someone."

"Does this someone have a name?" Rebecca asked wagging her brows at me.

"Mike Newton," I said quietly, hoping that my dad hadn't heard any of this. "Like I said, nothing official, but he may be taking me to the movies next weekend."

This small bit of information seemed to completely set them off for the rest of the night. They seemed to completely obsess over the fact that I would be going on my first date. I guess these kinds of things were a big deal to most girls my age. Luckily we kept things quiet enough that I'm sure my dad hadn't heard any of it. Rene had already given me 'the talk', much to my embarrassment, but my dad had also given me one of his versions of 'the talk'. Which seemed to be centered around the idea, that I was much to young to date, and anything more physical than a hand shake was forbidden until marriage.

I had always figured with having the dad that was the police chief of the town would hinder my abilities to go on many dates. But I was relieved to find at least a few daring enough to involve themselves with me.

Mike Newton being the first to take things to the level of going on a date.

Truly I was nervous, and I had talked with Rene about this matter for days. But her only words of wisdom was, have fun, and take things slow, you're young.

I knew all of that, it was the detailed things that I needed the advice on. Do I make the first move to kiss, or should I let him make that move? What if he tries to hold my hand? What if his breath stink? What if I decide I don't want to date him anymore?

All these questions circled around in my mind, but I wasn't brave enough to openly express these concerns with anyone. Surely they will make fun of me for not already knowing these questions.

The night seemed to go by so quickly, and soon I was waving goodbye to Billy, and his family. Making my way up to my room, I pushed open my door cautiously, hoping that woman wasn't there.

When I saw that she wasn't I let a relieved breath before heading to my bed, and flopping down. I was so tired, I thought I would have fallen asleep instantly, but I jumped at the sudden noise from my parents room.

I sat up slowly, listening towards the wall. I could hear hushed talking; which ended up turning into yelling. I had never heard them fight before, I wondered what they could possibly be upset about.

There was a few sharp smashing sounds, and a hard slam of a door. After that, there was complete silence.

I wasn't sure what had just happened, but I knew there wouldn't be any sleeping after that.
