"How about Ivan?" Caverna asked as she stood on a pile of rocks and wooden planks, fixing one of the doors to the cells in the training academy wit Astrid and Iris stood on the ground handing her things. It had been a few weeks since the attack, and so far, Iris' baby hadn't made an appearance.
"No way, I know too many Ivans." Iris told her.
"Well, what about something like, Brynjar?" Astrid asked, handing Caverna a nail.
"Trust you to pick a name that means 'warrior in armour'." Caverna laughed as she took the nail and started hammering it into the door.
"Or if it's a girl, you could call her, Magnhild, it means 'powerful in battle'." Astrid offered again.
"Well, I think I've found the theme for the name of yours and my brother's child Astrid, but seriously, every name you suggested has something to do with war." Caverna told her as she finished that side of the door, and she climbed down.
"What's the theme for mine and Astrid's children?"
All of the women turned around and saw Hiccup standing there and they looked back at each other.
"Astrid's just going to name your children to the theme of war and battle." Caverna shrugged.
"Why are you discussing names?" Hiccup asked Astrid, who almost skipped over and slid her arms around him.
"Because Iris is having her baby any day now." Astrid told him. "And she still doesn't know what to call him"
"Or her." Iris and Caverna shouted over.
"Oh...Right...Um has anyone seen Toothless?" Hiccup asked them.
"No, and come to think of it, I haven't seen Snowcap either." Caverna told him. "If you want, I'll help you look for them, we can go on Lightning, last I saw he was by the Great Hall anyway."
The siblings nodded, before they looked at Astrid and Iris, as Astrid was strapping the bag of nails and wood to Stormfly.
"Are you two going to be okay?" Hiccup asked.
"Yeah, we'll drop these things off with Gobber and then go for a walk or something; it'll be fun and relaxing." Astrid told them, earning a nod of agreement from Iris. "Come on Iris, let's go." Astrid told her, and the pair of them started to walk out of the arena, as Caverna whistled.
Hiccup watched them go, just as Lightning landed in the arena, a few weeks had done the Deadly Nadder good since he was caught by Dagur, and he had healed up almost fully.
"Hey Lightning." Caverna greeted, scratching his chin. "Listen, we need your help to find the Night Furies, are you up to it?"
Lightning simply blinked, nodding his head, and he moved to almost kneel down so that Caverna could get on his back and she pulled Hiccup on behind her. When they were ready, they took off, Lightning was fast, but he wasn't as fast as his egg sister and his Alpha, but Hiccup knew that it wouldn't stop him from trying, so he didn't complain, just enjoyed the ride. They searched the village from above, occasionally stopping at places, such as the Great Hall, the Dragon Stables, Gobber's forge, the well, Gothi's hut and even Raven's Point. However, each point came up empty, this carried on until the early evening, and then they came to the cove and that was when they saw it. In the cove there was a new formation of rocks that had been made, only it looked to have been put there on purpose, and as they landed, the siblings could make out the red fabric of Toothless' tailfin.
"Toothless, are you here bud?" Hiccup called out as he got off of Lightning's back, and helped Caverna down as well.
"Snowcap, are you here too?" She called out, and suddenly out of the rock formation jumped the two Night Furies, and they bounded over, jumping onto their riders.
"Toothless, what's gotten into you bud?" Hiccup asked as he laughed, pushing the Night Fury off of him.
When he was off of him, Toothless took Hiccup's metal leg in his mouth and dragged him over to the rock formation.
"Bud, what's going on?" Hiccup asked him and Toothless pointed to the opening off the rock formation, as Snowcap came over with Caverna and she done the same, before Snowcap slid into the opening.
Sharing a look with her brother as Toothless also darted inside, Caverna simply shrugged at him.
"Well, we did come to see where they had gone; so we might as well see what they have been doing." She told him, before she went inside the cave, inside it was big, with enough room for both dragons and themselves, but it was a bit on the short side, not very good for the tall and lanky Hiccup, who hit his head on the ceiling.
"Careful." Caverna told him as she made her way over to her dragon and found her curled around something. "What have you got there, girl?" Caverna asked.
Snowcap looked at her, before she moved to sit back on her hunches and show her human rider, who was staring, open mouthed at what she saw.
"Hiccup, get your butt over here." Caverna told him and she heard the scuffling of her brother who was soon standing next to her, staring.
Right in front of them was a Night Fury nest, and inside the nest lay around twelve eggs, each one ribbed with the same blue stripes that had been around the first nest of eggs the couple had had. The riders were happy, but also shocked this time they had no idea that Snowcap was getting ready to lay eggs and looking up at the still slightly surprised look of Toothless, neither did he. But amongst the surprise, there was a look of love, just as there was in Snowcap who also looked tired.
"Congratulations you two." Caverna told them, stroking their cheeks gently."Hiccup and I will leave you two alone for a bit, come back to Berk when you're both good and ready, right Hiccup?" She asked, looking at her brother.
"Of course." He told them, stroking Toothless. "Good job bud." He praised his dragon, before the siblings both left the den that had been created, and they walked back to Lightning.
"Let's get back to the village Lightning." Caverna told him as she climbed onto his back and pulled Hiccup up with her.
As they flew back, they found Astrid outside of hers and Hiccup's house, and they landed nearby, both siblings jumping off of Lightning's back as he ran to Stormfly, clucking and trilling as he went. The noise of Lightning caused by Stormfly to lift her head up from where she had been lying down in the sun, and Astrid to stop chopping wood ad looked over and she smiled at seeing Lightning and Stormfly run to each other and nuzzle each other.
"Hey, did you find them?" Astrid asked, putting down her axe as she saw Hiccup and Caverna walking towards her and she embraced Hiccup.
"Yeah, and you wouldn't believe what we found." He laughed.
Astrid just looked at him curiously, before she looked at Caverna who also smiled, and it was proud smile indeed.
"Toothless and Snowcap have a nest in the cove." Caverna explained.
"They're due to have eggs?" Astrid asked.
"Nope, they have a nest full of them; I think that there must have been around twelve eggs in there." Hiccup told her.
"Whoa...But wait, it's not Snoggletog, how could they be ready to lay their eggs so soon?"
Caverna shrugged. "They're Night Furies; they don't exactly follow the normal traditions."
"That is true." Astrid laughed. "Would you like to join us for some food Caverna?" She asked. "Unfortunately, it's only bread, cheese and meat, but you're more than welcome to join us for stew later."
"I should really go and find the others, but I'm sure I can spare some time for bread and cheese." She smiled, and she followed the two inside, looking around the new Haddock house. It closely resembled Hiccup's childhood home, but it was smaller, with some trunks piled in the corner.
"What is in the trunks Astrid?" Hiccup asked.
Astrid looked over at the trunks before she looked back. "My father came by earlier, apparently my mother wanted to give me them for our baby."
"Do you regret telling her?" Caverna asked.
"A bit, because if anything happens, it's you who will get the blame." She sighed, looking at her sister-in-law.
Caverna simply shrugged, her face expressionless, before she sat at the table with Hiccup and Astrid as Astrid brought the food over and they all started to eat what they wanted.
They stayed there for a while, before Caverna had to leave to find the others, and she set off walking and she soon came across her cousin who was showing off with his axe throwing skills in front of some friends.
"You see, it's all in the grip." He told them, throwing the axe and hitting the middle of the target, causing some of the girls to swoon, especially when he showed off his muscles. However, they all got the shock of their lives, when the target next to his suddenly had daggers embedded in the centre and they all turned to see Caverna stood there.
"Actually, cuz it's all in the wrist." She smiled.
"Show off." Snotlout told her with a laugh, before he threw her daggers back to her when he got them out of the barrel target.
Caverna simply bowed, before she had all of her daggers back where she had gotten them from and she looked at him. "Anyway, have you seen Fishlegs?"
"Nope." Snotlout told her.
"I saw him; he was talking to Heather at the Dragon Academy." One of the girls that her cousin was trying to impress, told her.
"Alright, thank you." She smiled, before she left them to it, walking down towards the Dragon Academy where she came across Fishlegs who was scribbling something down in the dragon manual, and Heather was looming over him.
"This is looking pretty good Fishlegs, you're really talented." Heather told him.
"Um...Thank you Heather." He smiled.
"He is that the Dragon Manual?"
Both of them turned to look at where the voice came from and they found Caverna walking towards them.
"Yeah...Why, what do you need?" Fishlegs asked, walking over to her and sliding his arms around her.
"I have some new information regarding Night Furies." She told him, her arms sliding around his neck.
"Ooh, excellent, let me just get some paper to write it on." Fishlegs told her, hurrying back to the book and he pushed it to the side of him and got ready to write notes on what she was going to say.
Caverna watched him in almost loving satisfaction, and she smiled as he got ready to write everything up.
"Well I'd best leave you to it." Heater told them, leaving the Great Hall.
"Right, I'm ready." Fishlegs told her, beaming and almost bursting with excitement at what he might be told.
"It' about Night Fury egg laying." Caverna told him. "It turns out, they don't always lay eggs when the others do, and the second clutch is bigger...Much bigger."
"Whoa, Snowcap's laid another bunch of eggs?" Fishlegs asked.
"Yeah, the nest is in the cove." Caverna told them. "They have built a cave themselves, out of rocks."
"Wow, this is amazing, why didn't you tell me sooner, I need to see this." He started.
"Whoa, easy love, I only found out today." She told him.
"Oh...hold on you said that the second clutch of eggs that they lay is bigger...How big?" He asked.
"Well she only laid two eggs last time...This time it's gone up to twelve." Caverna told him.
"Whoa..." He looked at her. "Can we go and see them?"
"Yeah sure, I'm sure they won't mind as long as we're careful." Caverna shrugged, and they both got up, Caverna making sure she grabbed the Dragon Manual, leaving the Great Hall and they walked to Meatlug who was at the bottom of the steps eating some rocks. As Fishlegs climbed onto his saddle, Caverna handed him the book, and was about to climb up onto the saddle until Ruffnut came running over.
"What's up Ruff?" Caverna asked.
"Iris, she's having her baby, Gothi said that she's asking for you." Ruffnut told her.
"Alright, I'll head there." She looked at Fishlegs. "Snowcap won't give you any trouble, just be careful." She told him, kissing his cheek, before she looked at Meatlug. "Look after him, and you be careful too." She told her, rubbing the dragon's head. "Alright Ruff, let's go."
Together, the two girls took off running as Fishlegs flew off to gather the information for himself, it seemed that everyone was having a family now, and that brought a calming glow to the Island of Berk, something that hadn't been seen for a while.
