PS: If you liked how I'd put Iris in this story then you might not like this chapter or any of them after (I'm undecided for ones after this), because it does a complete u-turn.
That night, everyone was sat in Hiccup and Astrid's home, with Hiccup sitting in a large armchair, and Astrid stood next to him holding some cold ice to his face where Iris had it him. It had been hours since Iris had hit Hiccup and Caverna had rendered her unconscious, leaving her to still be sat in her holding cell away from everyone. Hiccup looked at his sister who was sat on the stairs, looking at her feet, Fishlegs who was stood by the window keeping an eye on Caverna, Snotlout who was taking a turn holding Thorin, his mother who was watching both of her children worriedly, Gobber who was stood with Valka and the twins who were sat on the floor their faces ashen.
"We need to work out what we are going to do." Caverna spoke.
"What do you mean lass?" Gobber asked.
"She struck a chief...That doesn't usually get sorted out with a simply stay in the holding cell.
Everyone looked at her, they all seemed to be surprised at her words, but this time only Valka spoke.
"Caverna, I know that your pride is hurt by how she deceived you, but you can't take away the child's mother." Valka told her.
"This isn't about me!" Caverna snapped. "All because she is Thorin's mother doesn't mean that she should be excused from crimes such as striking a chief."
"I know sweetheart." Valka tried to change her words.
"No, you think I'm a selfish loser, but to be honest I don't care." She got up. "I've been thought worse of."She walked to the door. "You guys can do whatever you want, but I want answers."
Everyone watched her as she left the hut and braved the cold fierce wind that had started up. She walked down towards the holding cells, and she found her uncle standing with sword and shield in hand.
"Who's there?" Spitlout called out.
"It's me Uncle." Caverna told him. "I've come to speak to Iris."
Spitlout nodded. "Alright, do you want me to come with you?"
"No thank you." Caverna told him, walking into the cells and she soon found Iris' cell. Inside the cell, Iris was sat in the far corner, curled up in on her as she heard the footsteps.
"Iris, I know that you're not asleep." Caverna told her.
"Let me out." Iris told her, getting up and onto her feet.
"You know that isn't happening."
"Then why haven't you killed me?" Iris asked.
"Because my brother wants to keep you alive." Caverna told her. "I do not agree and I think that you should suffer the same consequences as everyone else, but he is determined to keep you alive because of your son."
"Where is my son!?" She demanded.
"He's safe, but I will see to it that you will never see him again for as long as I live." Caverna told her.
"You can't do this."
"I can." Caverna told her, pulling a stool to her and she sat in it, looking at Iris. "Now, onto other matters, you're going to answer my questions and then I'll leave you for the rest of the night."
Iris simply looked at her. "You really think that I'm going to answer your questions?"
"Yep." Caverna told her, getting herself comfortable on the stool.
Iris looked at her, and she saw the determined look in Caverna's eyes, and she realised that she wasn't going to let up until she knew what was happening.
However, Iris didn't speak for a long time, and she watched Caverna, who never let up or got angry, she just sat there. Eventually, Iris was the one to break first.
"What do you want to know?" Iris asked.
"I want to know what you're planning on doing." Caverna told her.
"I needed somewhere to raise my son." Iris told her.
"That worked when you first came here, so tell me, what's your real plan?"
Iris looked at her. "Dagur wants to take over Berk, and you're too stupid to stop him now."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Dagur knows that his son has been born, and he'll stop at nothing until he's back with his rightful father." She told her. "Which means your pathetic little village and your stupid dragons are all going to be crushed. And it's too late or you to anything."
Iris watched as Caverna stood up, and she left the holding cells, but she stopped at the door to look back at her. "You'll be the first to fall if this turns into a war." She warned her and then she ran, straight back down towards the village. Everyone moved out of the way as Caverna ran past them, and they watched her stop on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the sun. She searched the skyline, looking for anything out of place, but in the wind and snow that was hard to do, yet she still found what she was looking for. On the horizon, coming towards Berk, was a dark shape, and it was moving fast, it's black body contrasting against the gray clouds, it was the Skrill. A few seconds later, she saw Dagur's armada could be seen on the horizon.
"What have I done?" Caverna whispered, before she pulled up her hood and pulled out her horn. "He wants a war; he's going to get one." She then blew hard on the horn. The sound echoed loudly through the village, so loud that even everyone in Hiccup and Astrid's stables heard it.
Inside the stables, all of the dragons were huddled together for warmth and to protect the many babies of Toothless and Snowcap. However, as they heard the horn, they all looked at each other and then at Toothless as he got to his feet.
"Alpha, what do we do?" Cloudjumper asked, looking at the bigger Night Fury.
"We help our humans fight." Toothless told them.
"Whoa, not you Snowcap." Lightning suddenly squawked, and everyone looked to Snowcap who had pulled out her saddle.
"Definitely not you." Toothless and Stormfly told her.
"Why not?" She asked them.
"Because someone has to keep an eye on our babies." Toothless told her.
With everyone in agreement, Snowcap had no choice but to back down, so she laid down with her babies and Toothless nuzzled her.
"Come back to us." She told them.
"Of course we will." Grump told her. "Everything is going to be fine."
With that, they all waited for their riders to give them the go ahead for battle, ell all except Lightning who couldn't wait and he flew off looking for his rider, after nuzzling his mate and his egg sister promising to be careful. Meanwhile, in the house, everyone was getting ready for battle, and Hiccup and Astrid were close to an argument.
"Astrid, please, just stay here." Hiccup told her as he fastened is flight suit.
"No, why should I?" Astrid asked.
"You promised me that once you were showing, you'd start staying behind." Hiccup told her.
"It's not that noticeable." She countered.
"Yes it is." Came the reply from everyone around them, which had Astrid face palming herself.
"Fine, but the minute I feel the need to, I'm coming t help." Astrid told them.
"Fine." Astrid sighed and she threw her axe down, sitting on the stairs and she watched everyone leave, before Stormfly walked in and nestled down in front of her. "Hiccup sent you to watch me?"
Stormfly simply nodded, lying her head down and watching her rider who looked extremely moody as she sat on the stairs.
Meanwhile, Hiccup had gotten Toothless in the air and they soon found Caverna and Lightning hovering in the sky, looking out at the ocean, where ships were still coming, by the thousands and a Skrill was leading them.
"What did Iris tell you?" Hiccup asked.
"Not a lot, but he's coming for her and the child, this was their plan, and he's coming to destroy Berk." Caverna told him.
"My mother has Thorin; he's safe with her and her dragon." Fishlegs told her.
"And Mom went to stay with them too." Hiccup told her.
Caverna nodded. "This isn't about the baby right now, it's about saving our home."
"I agree, so what's the plan cousin?" Snotlout asked, hovering next to Hiccup and Caverna.
"Protect our home, by any means necessary." Hiccup told him.
Everyone just looked at him and the all caught the determination on his face as he pulled his flight mask down over his face and Caverna pulled up the mouth covering of her own mask.
"Dragon riders, let's go to war." Caverna told them and she dug her heels into Lightning's side and the pair suddenly shot off, Lightning's fire lighting the way as everyone else followed him.
The battle was long and brutal, and no one could find Dagur, whilst this worried Caverna she was too busy to look for him. She'd been separated from her dragon since the battle started, but she knew that Lightning could look after himself. She tried to focus on fighting, and she kept getting glances of her loved ones as they kept up the battle of their homeland, and then she caught a glance of someone that she didn't want to see. The Skrill, and on its back was Dagur and Iris! Taking a quick second, she found them going towards Hiccup's house, and this set her heart racing more than a battle ever could. So, disarming and nearly beheading her current opponent, she took off running back towards her brother's house, picking up a bow and some arrows as she ran. Meanwhile, inside said house, it was empty, but Astrid saw Dagur and Iris grab weapons and walk towards the house, throwing open the door, they both went inside, and she ran back to Stormfly who was stood over Snowcap and her babies, protecting them.
"They're in the house, Stormfly get ready, because they might come here next." Astrid whispered to her dragon, but she'd forgotten about the Skrill, and suddenly there was a shrill cry and the doors to the stable suddenly got thrown open and Dagur stood there. At seeing Astrid, holding only her axe and being protected by her Deadly Nadder, he let out a deranged laugh.
"Well well, a little shield maiden." He cackled. "Long time no see, Astrid." He spat. "Now if you don't mind, we'll behaving those dragon babies and our son."
"Over my dead body." Astrid sneered, readying her axe.
"That can be arranged." Dagur told her.
"Wouldn't want to lose that precious little baby of yours, would you Astrid?" Iris sneered.
"Ah, and we'll take you little thing as well if you don't mind." Dagur told her.
"Over my dead body."
The voice made them all look around, before Iris suddenly screamed in pain, holding a hand to her arm where it was now dripping in warm blood, and Dagur saw the arrow that lay on the floor, before he recognised the voice.
"Well well Caverna, the baby snatcher has appeared." Dagur suddenly drew his sword as Caverna suddenly dropped onto the ground from one of the rafters in the stable, how she got up there was anybody's guess, but right now, Astrid wasn't about to question.
"Where is my son Caverna?"
"Obviously not here." She told him. "I actually don't know." She told him, walking to stand in front of Astrid as she drew her own swords.
As they started to circle each other, Astrid made sure to stay by her dragon, and Stormfly made sure to keep in front of her and Snowcap who was still protecting her babies, especially when Dagur and Caverna started to hit each other with their weapons. However, as she focused on Caverna and Dagur's fight, Astrid didn't notice that Iris was moving ever closer to her, until it was too late and she was suddenly thrown into a wall, dropping her axe and Iris held a knife to her neck. And when Stormfly went to defend her rider, the Skrill suddenly went for Stormfly.
"Stop or the precious sister-in-law gets cut." Iris told Caverna and it caused Caverna to stop her fight with Dagur just as she disarmed him. "Now drop the weapons." She smirked a she watched Caverna do as she said, and when she did, Dagur grabbed her and held his sword to her neck. "Now come on, let's go." Suddenly, both girls were dragged out of the stables and into the battle, and everyone who saw the stopped and stared.
"Astrid, Caverna!"
The girls looked as much as they could and they found Hiccup having to be held back from running to the aid of them by Snotlout, Tuffnut and Eret.
"Let them go Dagur!" They demanded.
"Not until I get my son back!" Dagur shouted, holding the knife tighter to Caverna's neck.
"Hiccup, don't give him to him, please." Caverna shouted, with a wince as the blade of Dagur's sword broke skin.
"She's right Hiccup, don't!" Astrid shouted, trying to get out of Iris' grip, ignoring the knife that Iris kept to her neck.
"Oh will you two shut up!" Dagur suddenly shouted.
Caverna and Astrid soon recognised something above them and it caused them to glance at each other, and they both winked at each other, before almost simultaneously, Caverna head butted Dagur, causing him to let her go, and Astrid suddenly drove her foot down hard on Iris' foot, and as Iris hopped around in pain, Astrid grabbed Caverna's hand and they both jumped onto Lightning who swooped low to get them.
"Go Lightning!"
The cry made both girls smile as they saw Hiccup fist punch the air, watching them with a smile.
"Are you ready to end this?" Caverna asked.
"Definitely." Astrid told her, and she watched Caverna remove one hand from the reigns of her dragon and reach to her suit and pulled out a dagger, handing it back to her.
"Good, because it's your turn." Caverna told her once she took the dagger and this time when Lightning swooped low, Astrid got off and this time she fought alongside her husband who, once the girls were safe in the air, had tackled Dagur and the pair were fighting each other. Meanwhile, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Tuffnut and Eret were advancing on Iris, all of them looking furious as they tightened their grips on their weapons.
"Come on boys, you won't hurt me will you?" Iris asked, looking at them. "Eret, you promised to take me sailing." She reminded Eret, her voice showing nothing but fake innocence.
"Not after you hurt Caverna and Astrid." Eret told her. "My loyalty to them is more important than a promise to you."
Seeing that she wasn't going to be able to get anywhere with Eret, she moved onto trying to convince Fishlegs. "Fishlegs, I gave you a son, something that your pathetic excuse for a girlfriend couldn't do."She reminded him.
"But you hurt Astrid and Caverna." He told her. "And I love my girlfriend whether she can give me a child or not." Fishlegs told her.
"But you all swore to never harm a woman!" She told them, and she could see that this caused them to stop.
"No problem." This time it came from Ruffnut, who ran over, spear in hand. "You're mine, bitch." She then launched her over the guys and her and Iris started to fight. The battle waged until the sun rose again, and this time everyone saw Hiccup get thrown to the floor by Dagur who had taken out his prosthetic leg, so now Hiccup couldn't get up to fight back, but then everyone watched as Dagur was pinned to the floor by Lightning standing on him, and Caverna was stood on her dragons back. Then Iris was thrown to the floor by Ruffnut and Astrid who had managed to bring her down, and finally a soaking wet Skrill was thrown to the floor next to them by Stormfly, Hookfang, Barf and Belch and Meatlug.
As Dagur Iris and the Skrill were taken away, everyone looked around for their loved ones, but no one saw where Caverna and Snowcap were, and this set worry into Toothless, Hiccup and Fishlegs.
"Where is my mate?" Toothless asked Stormfly, Hookfang and Meatlug, in his haste and worry he wasn't nice about it.
"She's back in the stable; she defended her children from this monster very well." Hookfang told him.
"Go to her Toothless, she was wounded, we didn't see how bad it was." Meatlug told him and within seconds, the Night Fury was gone, running up the hill towards the stable of his rider's house. Bursting through the door, he found a sight which made him freeze, blood covered areas of the stable, and he couldn't make out whose it was. But in the far end of the stable, he heard squeaking and babies crying out, so he ran over and found his mate, curled up in hay, his babies all around her and Caverna sitting next to her cleaning a wound on Snowcap's side.
"Snowcap, are you alright?" He asked, pushing his way in and nuzzling his mate.
Snowcap lifted her head and opened her eyes and Toothless smiled inside at seeing the sapphire blue of his mate's eyes. "I'm alright, just sore."
"She'll be fine Toothless, she just needs to rest." Caverna told him, stroking him, before she stood up and watching Toothless suddenly be jumped on by twelve small Night Furies. "All of your babies are accounted for."
Toothless purred in thank you to his mate's rider, before he heard her leave and he soon settled down beside his mate as their babies joined them and he rested his head on top of hers, both of them relaxing and knowing that now they were safe and none of them were leaving for battle any time soon.
Meanwhile, getting outside, Caverna pulled her hood down and shook out her long auburn hair, as she walked down towards the Ingerman residence, she reminded herself to cut her hair. As she got there, she found Mrs Ingerman stood outside, almost as if she was waiting for her and she smiled to her, before ushering her inside. When they were inside, Caverna was lead up to what she presumed was Mr and Mrs Ingerman's bedroom, and in the corner was a cradle. When she was pushed towards it by Mrs Ingerman, she looked inside and found Thorin sleeping peacefully, completely oblivious to the torment that was just outside. Smiling to herself, she reached in and picked up the child, making sure to bring his blankets with him as she held him in her arms. With a thank you to the older Viking, Caverna brought him out into the village, making sure to keep him warm and she took him back up to her home, but when she got him, she was surprised to find out who was there.
