Well everyone, this is the last ever chapter for this story, I hope that you've enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Thank you for all of the comments, and ideas, it's helped to keep me going haha. Anyway, I'm on the verge of writing another How to Train Your Dragon fanfiction, only this one will centre on Hiccup and Astrid and it will be set in the modern times, so keep an eye on my page and I will upload it as soon as I've got a few chapters into it. In the mean time, I've written other stories if you'd like to check them out, and once again, thanks for the support. J
Inside her house, she found Hiccup, and admittedly this was the last place that she thought to find him, but then she also found Astrid, Fishlegs and her mother sat by the fireplace.
"I thought you'd all be in the Great Hall." She told them.
"We thought that we'd have our own celebration here." Valka told her. "And so we can meet the new addition to our family."
Caverna smiled as she looked at her mother. "Mom, come and meet your grandchild, Thorin Stoick Haddock."
Valka gave her daughter a heart-warming smile, and she walked over, taking the baby into her arms when she was close enough. "He's beautiful." She smiled, and she looked at her daughter and she saw the amount of love in her eyes as she looked at the baby and it filled her heart with pride. "Caverna, I'm sorry for being so distant, I just wasn't sure how much you blamed me for what happened. But if this battle taught me, was that when I saw you being held with a sword to your neck, I realised that I was just making it worse and that I would have given anything to have you safe in my arms." She told her. "What I'm trying to say is-"
"I know what you're trying to say." Caverna told her. "I hold nothing against you mom, you done what you thought would have been best for me, and I would like us to put it behind us and move on to be mother and daughter, like we should be." She told her, and she watched Valka hand the baby to Fishlegs before she suddenly pulled Caverna into a hug and Caverna happily returned it.
Hiccup and Astrid smiled as they watched Valka and Caverna make up, and Astrid looked over at Hiccup, leaning up to whisper in his ear.
"See, I told you everything would work out."
Hiccup looked at her as she heard her and he smiled, sliding an arm around Astrid's waist, pulling her close. "I know and as always I didn't listen, but I'm glad it's worked out."
Astrid looked up at him, slid her arms around his neck as she pulled him closer. "You're a dork Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, but you're my dork." She smiled, kissing him deeply, and Hiccup gladly returned the kiss.
Months passed and Berk was in perfect harmony, Iris and Dagur had been sent away, tied up on a boat, and for once, no one cared about the repercussions of their act, as long as they never came back. Hiccup and Astrid welcomed a little girl into their lives when Astrid reached her due date, and she'd given birth with her sister-in-law and mother-in-law at her side. Together, they'd named the new heir to Berk, Valda, as a commitment to her Warrior woman for an aunt and her dragon saver of a grandmother. Astrid had even been able to build her relationship with her own mother once more, and this made Hiccup proud. He'd had an easy time running the village, and he watched over his friends and family as they all moved on from the battle. What was destroyed was rebuilt and what was left standing, was cared for to ensure that it didn't fall down any time soon. There were also frequent visits from fellow tribes, such as the Bog-Burglars would come by every few months and just talk to people and generally have fun. Meanwhile, Astrid and Caverna had become even closer, if that was possible, through their children who had become close than ever, and Astrid and Caverna had noticed that even at a few months old, Valda had more of her father's stubbornness than anyone had ever thought.
One person who had grown up a considerable amount, was Snotlout he had moved on to working with his younger cousin Caverna, to teach kids how to train dragons, and he also trained with her in fighting and just generally keeping himself fit and beefed up. Over all, their relationship had grown a large amount, but not as much as his and Ruffnut's relationship had. He and Ruffnut had started dating not long after the battle with Dagur, and right now, things were really looking up, so much so that Snotlout had become engaged to her. Ruffnut was now training to become a healer and was kept under the watchful eye of Gothi. Also, unbelievably, she had toned down her joking quite a lot, especially now that she was due to be married and was taking her lessons on how to be a wife.
Even Eret and Tuffnut had decided to give married life and settling down a go, Eret had started a relationship with Heather, and they seemed pretty happy. Eret still rode around on Skullcrusher, but he and Heather had become part of the fisherman for the Island, bringing in the weekly amount of fish for the dragons and the villagers. They hadn't talked of marriage yet, but Astrid had a feeling that it wouldn't have been long. Meanwhile, Tuffnut had almost settled down, he'd started a relationship with one of the fisherman's daughter's, her name was Brunhilda and she and Tuffnut were pretty smitten. Even if he didn't get in a relationship with her until Snotlout threatened to ask her out for him if he didn't hurry up and do it himself. That had certainly put a fire under Tuffnut's backside, and he'd asked Brunhilda out that very hour, after getting drunk on mead in the Great Hall and making a show of himself in the process.
Valka and Gobber had also changed since the battle, they'd become closer than ever, both consoled over the loss of their best friend Stoick, a love for Hiccup and Caverna, and a sense of duty to the village and the dragons. Valka had taken to helping Gobber in the forge a lot when she wasn't looking after the dragons, helping Caverna and Snotlout with the teaching, or helping Fishlegs with the Book of Dragons. And in return, Gobber would cook a meal with Valka and she'd eat at his. Their closeness didn't bother Caverna or Gobber, since if anything came from it; they both thought that Gobber was already filling in for Stoick as their father.
Even the dragons had taken up a calming life, Cloudjumper and Skullcrusher, being the oldest of the group, had taken to looking after the others and becoming Toothless' right hands, but not without finding mates of their own and leaving with the others during the egg hatching season. Stormfly and Lightning had also had their own babies in these few months, and it made everyone smile to see baby Deadly Nadders playing with baby Night Furies in the mornings, but sadly now all baby dragons had flown the nests and the two Alpha's were enjoying the peace. Snowcap's injury had turned into a scar that barely stood out from her black scales, but she was still self conscious about it. Toothless had managed to soothe her worries in no time and she had left the stable a mere three weeks after the injury had healed completely and Gothi deemed her ready to fly again. She'd also befriended the Skrill, against her egg brother's better judgement, and that helped Caverna a lot.
Whilst everyone, be them dragon or human had changed during these months; no one had changed more than Caverna and Fishlegs. Everything made their relationship much stronger, and they had made a few changes in their lives that helped to do that. One of the biggest changes was that Fishlegs had moved into the house with Caverna and they now shared a marital bed, even though neither of them were in a rush to be fully married to each other, they had decided to reap the benefits of marriage without the worry and stress of the marriage itself. And no one in the village seemed to have a problem with it. They'd also come to fully adopt Thorin, and he was still known as Thorin Stoick Haddock, until his parents had married. Thorin had grown into a energetic young child, who would toddle from his bed into his parents room and get into their bed for a daily morning cuddle, then he would either go with his father to study dragons or go with his mother and sit with Snowcap, who loved having the little human around, and try to catch her tail, which he never succeeded until Snowcap put it down for him, as his mother and uncle taught the class. Or, his mother would take him to play with Hiccup and Astrid's daughter, either way, he was a happy child and nothing seemed to be going wrong for him at the moment or ever in that matter. Everything was good on the island of Berk, and everything was always going to be good, no matter what.
This was Berk, boating the balmy fun in the sun climate that would give you frost bite on your spleen. But its home, our home! Those who attack us are crazy, but they may have their armies, or their armadas, but we have our dragons! And we are just as crazy to use them!
