Alicia's p.o.v
I followed Krise into the hospital lobby in complete worry. "But Krise! I reallllly do think that was her!"
"Alicia, don't you think if that was her she would have said something?!"
"NO!"
"True..."
Krise shrugged it off and continued her march to the desk clerk. "Excuse me there's a patient here that we know and we need the room number." The lady looked at Krise as if she were stupid. I couldn't help but giggle a bit.
"Can I get a little more information?"
"Oh yeah, she's a girl."
I slapped my forehead as the lady just rolled her eyes. "A name please?"
"Oh well why didn't you say so?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Well?!"
"What?"
"The name!"
"Oh you wanted it now?"
"..."
I pulled Krise back and gave the lady a sweet smile. "Cream the rabbit"
"Well that's odd. Only visitors she gets his her mother and Amy-"
"You know Amy?"
"Yeah she comes every morning. Should be on her way now." I turned to Kise with a glare clear on my face. "That wasn't her in the street eh?!"
"Oops...?"
I rolled my eyes and got the room number from the lady. Before we left, she whispered into my ear. "Was she dropped at birth?"
"Nah. It's just in her nature. She's really smart actually. When need be that is..."
"Alicia!"
"Coming!"
Amy's p.o.v
Dusting myself off, I crossed the street to the same rusty old bus stop. And to my surprise, there stood the old man with that same dog.
"Please tell me you were walking that dog the other day..."
"Well of course. Don't you remember petting ol Ace here?"
"Yes..excuse me, it's just that I see this man..and every other time we meet he seems like he doesn't remember me."
"Hm. Well that's something interesting."
"Yeah..."
"Somebody, someday, will turn your life upside down ya know."
"I don't believe you understand sir. My life...is un-turnable."
"Well look at it this way. You know the saying, 'you can teach an old dog new tricks?'"
"Yes sir."
"Well then you can teach your life new tricks aswell."
"It's not that simple.."
"Oh but I believe it is. It's a true shame that young people these days are raised to believe that life is completely out of their reach. That destiny is what determines your future. Tell me this, when you were in your mother's belly, do you know who determined your life?"
"Hm..."
"She did. Every step she took was a fifty, fifty chance she could slip and fall. Everything she ate determined if it was good enough for the life she preserved inside of her. Did destiny determine what your mother ate? Did destiny determine whether your mother would harm her own body, resulting in your death? Did destiny determine every little precaution she took to make sure you were safe? No. And that's just one of many examples I could pull out of the old noggin here."
I smiled just a bit at the old man's brilliant illustration. "So...the lesson learned?"
"The lesson is that everyones life is in their own hands. Not only physically, but especially mentally."
"How so?"
"Hm. Well...it's always a person's choice whether he'll do good or bad. There's absolutely no excuse that comes along with that. Maybe their parents weren't in their lives, but as they grow up they're bound to learn what's wrong and what's right. Some even ignore the consequences of their choice. You know where they are now?"
"Jail?"
"Ha. Jail would have surely seemed golden to them if they had the choice. Some are in jail, learning from their mistakes. Whether for life, or for a few years. But no, the others are somewhere entirely different. They're down in the ground. Locked away in a crafted box."
"Oh.."
"Umhm. What i'm trying to teach you is that even if your life is bad, even when there seems to be no hope left, even when you feel like dying within the next few seconds, you and only you can determine what happens next. There will always be people in your life that try to hold you down; tell you that you can't do this and that. Just remember though, those who are told they can't, can. Those who are told they can, can. The only thing stopping you is you. You alone. Tell me, what kind of person are you?
"Um...Weak. Yeah that pretty much sums it up."
"Yes. Just as I thought."
"..."
"I'm not agreeing that you're weak, but you are a verrrrry reactive person. You let others hold you down."
"I don't mean to.."
"No one does. But it happens. There's not a lot you can do. You really can't. But just know that violence is not the answer. I hear too many stories about bullied kids who wind up bringing weapons to school, killing those who bullied them. Even going as far as killing the ones who would laugh at them."
"Oh no, I would never-"
"Not saying you would."
"Oh..."
"I think you see where i'm going with this."
"I do."
"And don't expect this to all change over night because nothing works that way. Just understand that everything you do, and everything you let happen to you is all up to..."
"Me."
"Yes. One more thing. Look at that small twig sticking out of the ground. Do you see it?"
"Yes."
"You are just a twig."
"Um..thank you?"
"It's nothing good about that young one. You are a twig with no roots. Meaning any storm or impact will knock you right over without a fight. I want you to be like that specific twig though."
"But...I thought you said it gets run over.."
"No. At the moment you are like a twig, but I want you to be like that specific twig right there."
"What's the difference?"
"That twig has roots. No matter what, it will stay firm in it's spot. I need you to be like a twig with roots because then, and only then will you learn to stand firm in life's many obstacles."
"But...either way, it's still weak right? Thin and gullible?"
"Not exactly. You see, an ordinary twig will be tossed around without a thought. A twig with roots, over time, will grow into that. A thick, strong tree. And someday, you'll grow into a mature, strong woman. Do you believe that?"
"I can try."
"Well keep trying until you do. Now i want you to close your eyes. Just for ten seconds."
"Should I think about something?"
"Yes. Think about everything that's happened to you. Even if it hurts you to address it. And when those ten seconds are up, I want you to take a deep breath and make today a brand new one."
"Alright." Closing my eyes, I re-capped my entire life. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3..2...1. "You're gone now aren't you?" Turning around I saw now trace of the old man that was once talking go me. "Alright. Today is a new day."
Im going to cut this chapter here because i want each and every one of you to think about the conversation they just had.
