Dry your tears chapter 23

A thin line of drool dribbled from Amy's mouth as she sighed softly. Daylight peeled through the rugged apartment, causing Amy to shield her eyes. She groaned and rolled over. Suddenly her eyes shot open as she remembered what Shadow told her the previous night.

"Guess I'm going to school", she mumbled. Wiping her face she stood, but stumbled back on the hard floor. Xander was laying next to her. Inches to be exact. What happened last night? What was he doing there? Did he...do anything? Amy held her head as thoughts ran back and forth through her mind. In Xander's hand was a half full glass. Amy wrinkled her nose. It had to have been some type of scotch and vodka mix. A loud knock on the door jolted Xander awake. Amy backed up quickly as Xander rushed to his feet.

"The agent...your agent...not this early. Here!"

Amy fumbled with the glass Xander tossed her as he rushed to brush away the scent of alcohol. Cleaning and putting away the glass, Amy listened as Xander rudely woke Vera. Vera leaned out the door to glare at Amy; a silent command and threat, both tied in one. A command to get the door, but a threat not to say anything she knew not to.

Amy stepped softly to the door and cracked it open. A thin, figured hedgehog looked Amy up and down kindly. Amy, afraid to make eye contact, opened then door to let the agent in.

"It's been a while since I've seen you...you're very..."

Ugly. Stupid. Worthless. Amy pondered on what the word would be.

"Thin."

Amy bit her lip. "I uh...just trying to fit in at school!"

"Odd..."

The agent scribbled on a clip board and looked at Amy out the side of her glasses. "Umhm...and where did you get those cuts and bruises? They look painful." Amy leaned back from the agent as she reached out to examine the facial marks.

"Got in a fight at school."

"Oh my. You're not...bullied are you?"

Amy's eyes swelled just from the question. "No of course not. No one gets bullied as much as they make it seem anymore. No way."

Xander and Vera came out of the room quickly and stood behind Amy. Amy sighed as she saw Xander in a suit and Vera in a nice skirt and top. Fakes. Vera shook the agent's hand and welcomed her.

"Amy has been such a dear I must tell you-"

An unamused look crept across the agent's face. "Actually today's interview will be strictly with Amy and Amy alone."

Vera and Xander exchanged quick glances. Xander spoke up. "O-Of course. We'll be in the next room. Please don't hesitate to let us know-"

"I won't thank you. I was actually thinking I could take Amy away for at least an hour. Just to..." The agent looked around the apartment. "...catch up on things."

"Right...please enjoy our little Amy. We do!"

Amy didn't dare look at, nor speak to anyone in the room. She left to the wash room to get an outfit that looked exceptionally clean.

"I'm not gonna tell her anything...I can't."
