Dry your tears chapter 25
Amy's P.O.V
I clenched my hands as Sonic slid in the back seat of Ms. V's convertible. He didn't say anything at the table, but I had to spend the whole day with her and she invited him a long. My heart skipped a beat each time he talked. Don't tell her anything... Please don't...
She invited him on purpose, I'm sure of it now. Ms. V turned to me and smiled; a sparkle in her eye. "It doesn't bother you if your friend comes along now does it?"
After mumbling 'he's not my friend', I shook my head reluctantly. "No, it's fine."
I saw Sonic hold his thumb up in the mirror. "Great! I certainly wouldn't want to intrude!"
I was trapped. Ms. V wanted information that she knew I wouldn't give, and Sonic is probably here regarding that Shadow guy... I met him before, and he urged me to go to school today. My heart sunk in guilt. He doesn't care...he won't care...who does...
My thoughts were interrupted by a tap on my shoulder. It was him again...I turned and looked Sonic in the eye with intimidation. "Yes?"
"What're we doing today?"
"...I'm just along for the ride. I'm not sure..."
"Well while we're waiting for the next destination, let's play a game!"
I don't want to play a game...why does he want to play a game?! What if all of this is a plan to get stuff out of me?
"Lovely!"
I cringed as Ms. V went along with Sonic's plan. I looked out of the window, hoping they would exclude me from the game. Sonic wagged a finger. "You gotta play too Amy."
"No thank you...maybe on the next round..."
Ms. V looked at me slightly. "I brought you out today so we could have fun...come on. Give it a try."
"..."
I rubbed my temples softly. I can do this. It's just a game...a harmless game...just for fun...fun. When was the last time I had fun...the word seemed foreign even in my mind...fun...
Flashback
A four year old Amy giggled as she poked a lone star fish basking in the sun. "Mommy look!"
"It's a beautiful creation isn't it, Amy?"
Amy puffed up her cheeks and nodded. "But it doesn't have a home...can we take it?"
"Well I'm afraid we can't do that..." Amy's mother leaned down and ran her fingers through Amy's short , messy hair. "This is its home."
"A beach? But we don't live on a beach...so why does Mr. Star fish have to?"
Amy's mother chuckled softly; a harmonic sound. "This is where it was born...this is where it will stay. You're right Amy, we don't live on the beach, but this is just like someone coming to our home asking to take you away from your farther and I. Now you wouldn't want that, would you?"
Amy whined and hugged her mother. "No! Not away from you and daddy!"
"Now you see how Mr. Star fish feels?"
"Uh huh. He can stay..."
"Right."
Amy jumped as a cool tide brushed up against the tip of her toes. She looked up at her mother; joy filling her eyes. Her mother nodded and Amy dashed to the water. Splashing around, she giggled as her father joined and swung her around in the air. Wind rushed through Amy's short bangs as she looked up at the white clouds. Her mother called out to her softly.
"Having fun?"
Amy looked up and waved at her mother sitting alone on the white sand. "Yeah! This is fun! Let's come back every year!"
"We will Amy!"
"Promise mommy?"
She nodded at her daughter. "Promise."
end of flashback
"So are you playing? ", Sonic asked.
I sighed quietly. "Sure..."
"Cool. I'm just going to ask a few questions is all...to get to know you better. Sound good?"
"Umhm..." My hands started to sweat again. What kind of questions...
"Great tell me...something you despise."
What was there not to despise? Bullies...school...Xander and Vera...my life. So many to choose from. Ms. V kept looking at me, expecting an answer. This could be a trick question... What if I answer wrong-
"You have to despise SOMETHING...", Sonic said with curiosity.
Ms. V nodded in agreement. "Everyone does indeed despise something. For instance I simply hate my hair in the winter months. It gets so brittle and icky. And what about you Amy?"
I felt my heart beat pulse through me. I wasn't under pressure, it was just a question. Just answer it. I swallowed to assuage my mind.
"Time."
I shut my eyes. Why would I say that...of all things. Time? That was so stupid...or maybe I really do despise time...
Sonic frowned. "Time...that's new...time as in clocks? Or...?"
"Time...in general I guess. Every second that passes...you don't get it back. I mean sure it'll be that hour or time again, but never that second, hour, or time in that specific moment ever again. It's scary...seconds are so fast. It's one thing no one can stop...no matter what."
There was a silence for about half a minute. Sonic scratched his head. "I never...thought that way. Wow."
My face turned red. Mainly because I don't usually speak that much to people I don't know well...to anyone as a matter of fact. Only Cream. I looked back out of the window until Sonic gave up trying to completely understand what I'd said.
"Is there uh...any reason why time bothers you?"
"Becuase it takes me further and further away from the day I was last with my parents."
Sonic laughed abruptly. "Oh are you a daddy's girl or something? You're gonna see them when you go home you know. How do you possibly survive at school? Haha..."
I bit my trembling lip.
Sonic wiped his eyes from the tears. "Haha...I've never heard a teenager say that. Most don't even want to be near their parents! And you hate time because it takes you from them? As if you're not going to see them at home! Good one Amy! I didn't know you liked to make jokes! I'll remember that one for sure, haha."
My eyes puffed up as tears started to form. I knew I couldn't trust anyone... Why did we have to play this stupid game anyway? How dare he make fun of my parents. A sob escaped my lips as I buried my face in my hands.
"A-Amy? Did I say something wrong..." Sonic's ears flattened. Maybe he didn't know after all. Ms. V flashed me a quick glance of worry.
"My parents are dead."
Sonic's ears flattened even more as he sunk down in the back seat. "Nice job Sonic...", he whispered to himself. "Amy...I-I'm so sorry, I swear I didn't..."
"Not many people know." I tried wiping my eyes, only for more to flood out. Sonic mumbled a quick apology and stayed quiet. He snapped his fingers suddenly.
"I'll buy you anything you want! How about that?"
I shook my head.
"Uh...I'll give you one of my track trophy's...?
I shook my head once again, my eyes flooding even more.
"I'll get Shadow to leave you alone! "
I dried my eyes once more and looked at Sonic through the mirror. "Shadow?"
Sonic nodded frantically. "Well sure, you've met him before haven't you?"
How would Sonic know that we've met...
"I may have run into him once...he hasn't bothered me any...", I croaked.
"Are you sure about that-"
Ms. V cleared her throat in the middle of Sonic's sentence. "Whose Shadow?"
Sonic folded his arms and closed his eyes. "Let's just say he's an old buddy of mine."
Ms. V shrugged it off and kept her attention on the road. Sonic huffed and cracked his knuckles. "If he does give you any trouble anyway, let me know."
I stayed silent to Sonic's request. If Shadow hurt me, then what difference would it make to anyone else hurting me? Besides...I doubt I'll be running into him again any time soon.
Ending the awkward silence, Ms. V whistled a sweet tune. "Amy dear, tell me about your friends."
That word again...friends. I only had one...
"You must have a lot of them! As sweet as you are...don't you?"
I clenched my teeth on and off. No...I didn't have a lot of people begging to be my friend. I actually had a lot begging to be the main bully of the day. "I just...happen to be a bit...non-social is all...I have a close friend, but she's residing in the hospital for now."
"I'm sorry to hear that...what's her name?"
"Cream..."
"Pretty. Maybe I should pay her a visit sometime."
I shuffled my feet as sweat began to form on my forehead. "No no no...uh.. She doesn't do too well with anyone...other than...me."
"Is her conditon that bad? Oh my..."
I exhaled in relief. I didn't need her around anyone else to get information. That reminded me of those two weird rabbit and wolf girls. They wanted information too didn't they...to write about my life. That can never be considered...it's a joke anyway. They're not looking out for me, they're looking for the spot light. Who gets to embarrass Amy next... I can only take so much. But their smiles...they didn't seem evil...My head began to pound just thinking about it.
I can't take much more
