Pretty sure I lost all my readers. I've taken so long to update, and i'm really sorry. Life really is a brick wall sometimes.

Dry Your Tears Chapter 28

No p.o.v

Shadow leaned Amy against a deserted tree. He was as far away from the funeral grounds as possible. He definitely made sure he had lost Sonic. He didn't need to be anywhere near her. Shadow leaned against the tree and closed his eyes with his head down. As he began to relax, Amy began to stir. He opened one eye as she sat up in a panic.

"Where's Xander?! I have to get away-...where am I?!" Amy looked up at Shadow who looked back nonchalantly. "You again..."

"Yeah, me again", Shadow grumbled. "You know, you sure do cause a lot of trouble. Who died back there?"

Amy hugged her knees, deciding not to question him any further. She held her head down as she whispered, "My...guardian I guess. I don't really know what she was to me."

Shadow rubbed his chin in deep thought. He assumed the other man was the other guardian. He watched her as she began to cry again. Rolling his eyes, he kneeled in front of her. "Do it." Amy looked at him confused as he repeated himself. "Go on. I won't stop you. Just do it."

"Do what?!"

Shadow ignored her apparent frustration and crossed his arms with a frown. "Kill yourself. You always complain about how you want to. Give me the word and I can get my hands on any weapon, or tool you want to use." Shadow stared back as she looked up angrily. Amy remained silent, but Shadow could see she had her fist balled up. Shadow chuckled sarcastically. "Looks like someone's mad. But oh, isn't that what you wanted? It's being offered and you're biting the hand that's trying to feed you."

Amy tried to stand, but all Shadow had to do was nudge her back with one finger. She smacked his hand away."I don't need this from you-"

"Of course not", Shadow muttered with a straight face. "What you need is a gun, or a knife, or a rope. Right?" Amy began crying again. Shadow stood over her with his arms crossed. "Well? Do you want it or not?"

"I DON'T KNOW!", Amy yelled through her tears.

Shadow grunted. "Exactly. If you truly wanted to be dead, you would have been dead by now. You would have already jumped on the opportunity of me getting you the tools needed to carry out the action. You don't want to die, and you're pathetic for saying that you do."

The two remained silent for a good thirty minutes. Shadow leaned back against the tree while Amy sniffled, staring at the ground. The sun would be going down not too long from now. When Amy's breathing became more calm and collected, she stood and dusted herself. "Thank you", she muttered. Shadow opened one eye again, his silent way of asking what she was sorry for.

Amy wringed her hands together and looked down nervously. "For what you said. I guess I don't want to die after all", Amy said. "But I sure as hell don't want to be here", she added more quietly to herself. "I have to go back now..back home. Or whatever that apartment is."

Shadow grunted as he stood up straight. "Then let's go." Amy looked at him with question in her eyes to which Shadow responded, "I'm no fool. I won't let that guy hurt you."

Amy rubbed her arm despite the pain it gave off. "His name is Xander...just by the way..."

Shadow shrugged. "You go to the hospital downtown a lot. What for?"

Amy gave a half smile; one of sorrow more than joy. "My best friend Cream. She's sick. To be honest she spends more time in there then she does out in the real world. All she gets to do is watch the world pass her by from her hospital window. The seasons come and go, people come and go..and she sees it all. I try to see her everyday. The other day wasn't the best...of days though."

Shadow looked ahead, choosing not to make eye contact. "That guy at the gas station. He was going to rape you. You did what you had to do."

Hot tears surfaced once again on Amy's cheeks. "I could have ran, I could have tried to fight. I didn't have to pour gasoline on him..." Amy stopped in her tracks and began to sob. "I took his life away-"

Shadow impatiently grabbed Amy's wrist and lead her along. "All this damn crying needs to stop. Seriously."

"Sorry", Amy muttered as she wiped her face.

At Xander's apartment...

Shattered glass lay strewn across the cracked floor as Xander sat in the middle of it, bare footed and shirtless. He had a beer in his hand, watching the TV that had a news report on it.

"No reports on the victim's family have been brought up at this time. Once again, this man had no identity on him. If so, it would have burned as he did. Police are still investigating the-"

SMASH!

"SHUT THE HELL UP", Xander yelled as he threw the half full bottle of beer at the television. He ran to the kitchen sink and slumped over it as he began to puke. He leaned up and wiped his mouth. He then stumbled over to a drawer and pulled out a pocket knife. He held it up to the dimmed light to see its shine. "Bitch wants to embarss me at my own wife's funeral", he slurred, "i'll give her something to be embarrassed about... I'll give 'er somethin...i'll give 'er..."

Xander collapsed onto the floor, landing on the blade. A small pool of blood began to spread from under his limp body. His eyes were open, but began to glaze. His vision was blurred, but he saw two figures come in through the door. A pink figure leaned in front of him and turned him over. She was yelling to the other figure.

Both Xander's sight and hearing slowly began to fade. He felt the blade being lifted out of the side of his chest. He opened his mouth, but no words could come out. All he could see was Vera. Not the Vera who died, but a much younger and refreshed looking Vera. In Xander's mind he was reaching out to her, but he could no longer physically control his muscles. The world around him slowly began to fade into black.
