Dry Your Tears chapter 30

Amy didn't dare move. She knew Xander was injured and bed ridden, but her natural fear of him kept her still. Xander was studying her, looking her up and down. Amy tensed and looked back. "What...what is it you wanted to talk about?"

Xander ignored the question and kept observing Amy. "You know I never realized how beautiful you are. Vera and I received you as a little girl. You've grown a lot into a beautiful young woman. And to think you're not even done growing yet."

Amy looked down at her sweaty palms. "Thank you", she murmered awkwardly. "You uh...you said you wanted to talk about something?"

Xander ignored the question once again. "The guy you were with when you called 9-1-1. Is that your boyfriend or something?"

Amy blushed and shook her head. "N-No of course not."

Xander studied her face and looked back toward the hospital window. "I've done very sick and twisted things to you. I've lied on you, lied to you, lied to myself about you. I shot the dog you wanted to keep when you were younger. I abused you verbally and physically. I've cut you and i've threatened you. I've held a gun to your head, a knife to your throat. I've raped you once. I've forced you to do and say so many things. Yet...the day I fall on my own blade. The day I could have been gone. The day you could have been out of your misery...and you save me."

Amy flinched at each of the things Xander had listed. She didn't look him in the eye, but she could feel him staring back at her. "Why?!", he asked angrily. Amy shut her eyes in hope that a tear wouldn't escape. "I don't know", she mumbled.

Xander sighed and laid back. "You were an idiot to save me. And that's coming from the man who almost lost his life tonight. I bet that's what that other hedgehog told you too, right? That you were foolish for saving me. Why, I'd even bet that he tried to convince you to leave me there on the floor to bleed to my death."

Amy nodded slowly. "That's correct..."

"I have no grounds to say anything to you. I don't even have the right to look at you."

Amy decided not to respond to that. He was right, he had done her terribly wrong, scarred her mentally, and screwed up her life. Something about him this time seemed slightly genuine to Amy though. She shifted uncomfortably in her chair and toyed with her hands. Xander held out one hand. Amy automatically closed her eyes, preparing for a slap to the face. Xander remained silent until Amy opened them again. His hand was out for her to take. Amy placed her palm in his, still pumped full of fear.

"Stand up", Xander muttered. "Look me in the eye when I'm talking to you."

Amy stood and to her surprise he hadn't yanked her or jerked her violently. Instead he gently guided her to sit at the edge of the bed. "Look at me", he said once more. Amy looked up and did her best not to look away. "Amy Rose. I'm sorry."

Amy's eyes widened in shock. Xander, the most tough and brutal man she had known had just put two words together that she thought would never come out of his mouth. She opened her mouth, but no words could come out. "Sorry" wasn't going to fix anything, but Amy wasn't sure why she felt so comforted by those two words. He said it again. "I'm sorry".

Amy began to let the tears escape.

"I'm sorry for everything I've done to you. I'm sorry for hurting you, for making you cry, for forcing you to do the most terrible shit. I lost my wife. I'm hurting, Amy. I'm hurting so bad..."

Xander too began to cry. Amy marveled at the sight before her. She never thought he'd be capable of so much emotion. He wasn't silently crying. Rather, he was crying loudly; groaning as he held his chest. "I'M SO SORRY!"

Amy stumbled backwards and sat on the floor. She didn't know what to do or say. She wiped her face and put her back to the wall. Xander leaned over in a heap of sorrow. Amy did the only thing she knew her own mother would do. She walked on the other side of Xander's bed and leaned his head on her chest. Xander stopped and stayed still as Amy ran her hands through his quills. She spoke in a hushed voice.

"I know how it feels to lose someone you love. I lost two of them. Excuse me for my language, by Xander you have been a very...very shitty person. You've done so much more to me than what you've listed, but some how...I'm at peace with it. I don't know where this leaves us, but I'm afraid we won't have the best of relationships. At least we can start with something-"

Xander broke down crying again; soaking Amy's shirt in the process. Amy let go of him and walked back to the door. She looked at Xander once more before leaving the room. She hugged herself as she walked back out into the cold lobby. Shadow was there waiting on her. He walked up. "How'd it go?"

Amy shrugged. "It went."

Cream's p.o.v

I laid against the plump hospital pillow as I held back tears. I wanted to get out of here. I was tired of being here. Amy needs me, and I'm not able to be there for her. I sat up and looked toward the window. The stars were shining brightly. "Amy...", I whispered.

My ears perked as my door began to creak open. I bit my lip as Amy's aunt walked in. "Hello child", she said.

"What do you want?", I inquired.

She sat next to me and clutched her small purse. "Your friend is at another hospital on the other side of town. Xander was hurt really badly."

My heart sunk. I didn't want to say that he deserved it, but my main concern was Amy. "Is Amy okay?"

Ms. Jackie shrugged my question off. "I'm not here regarding my niece. I'm here to make sure you haven't told her anything about what happened all those years ago."

I shook my head slowly. "No...I haven't. We made a deal. You stay out of her life, and I don't tell her that you're the cause of her parents' death." I frowned as Jackie looked at me as if I were lying. "I haven't told her anything. You can leave now."

Jackie rolled her eyes and began walking back to the door. "Good. It's in your best interest that you don't say a single word."

"And it's in your best interest to stay away from Amy", I retorted.

Jackie left the room and I balled up my fist. Amy is my best friend, and I'm going to tell her soon. I can't keep this from her any longer."
