A/N: So, ignoring the fact that this hasn't been updated for well over a year now... I'll save all that nonsense for after.

I want to warn you all, it's been literal years since I've watched the anime, so the characters are more than likely OOC. (But let's be honest, they were basically from the beginning... not to mention the number of inconsistencies... Sorry 'bout all that.)

That's not the main thing I want to warn you about, though. The f-word is used once or twice, and I don't mean fuck (because swearing is fine in my book). I know some people are okay with it, but I'm not one of those people. Normally I would find a way to work around it, like how in kids shows they work around swearing by either saying a word that sounds like a swear, bleeping it out, or making another character interrupt the other before they can say the swear. In this case, though, there wasn't anything that seemed to fit without it being too off-putting, in my opinion. In this case, since while it is used as an insult, it's not made in the perspective of being funny, but putting the character who says it in a negative light, I'll leave it as is. BUT, if anyone would prefer it to be censored instead, I will gladly do so and change it.

That night was rough for Makoto. He kept thinking about Haruka sitting alone in that horrible hell of a room, alone and all because of him, instead of there, with him in his own bed. He thought about if Haruka would forgive him for what he did, or if he would even still remember in the first place. Mrs. Amakata said that his memory resets every Monday. and what if he didn't remember? Should Makoto tell him or should he pretend like it didn't happen?

He'd have to talk to Haruka tomorrow.

All morning Makoto waited for them to let Haruka out. Nitori tried to coax him into playing a board game, but he would not let his attention be averted from the door that Haruka would be coming out of. Eventually, Rin convinced Nitori that there wasn't anything they could do to distract him, and so Nitori finally gave up.

It had to be around noon when a nurse came and blocked Makoto's view completely, slightly snapping him out of his trance enough to notice that she was there.

"Tachibana-kun? You have a visitor." The nurse said with a smile, but even Makoto could tell that it was fake.

Did she mean that as a single person? Makoto didn't know anyone who would come to see him alone. Nagisa and Rei would be the only two to visit him, and they would always go together. So he was really curious to see who it would be.

"This way, please." The nurse said as she led the way, though she didn't have to as he did already know the way. "He's over here." She continued to lead the way. From across the room, Makoto could spot the red glasses of his friend from across the room, with no Nagisa in sight. For a moment he was excited to see Rei, but then he noticed the contemplative look on his face that made him worried. Rei was here for a reason that they would have to talk about and Makoto certainly did not want to.

"Hey." Makoto said wearily. Rei didn't say anything. Instead, he nodded at the chair across from him for Makoto to sit down.

Makoto thought about just leaving his friend there and avoiding the whole situation entirely. It was one thing to have people he only sort of knew telling him such horrible things like Haruka not being Haruka, but having someone he has been close to for years tell him would be too much. Still, there was a chance that that wasn't what he wanted to talk about, so Makoto sat down anyway.

"Nagisa isn't here?" Makoto asked, hoping to distract him.

"No." rei quickly replied, "I came on my own today. There's something that's been bugging me that we need to talk about."

"Oh." Makoto could feel himself shrinking in his seat.

"About that person you introduced us to before…"

"Haruka?"

Rei sighed, "Yeah. Uhm… I'm not really sure how to say this."

Makoto folded his arms. "I knew it." He said, adding a bit of spice in his tone.

Rei looked up at him with widened eyes. "Y-you did?" He stumbled over his words.

"Yes. You're going to tell me that he is actually Haruna Manami and not Haruka Nanase. Right?"

"Well… Yes… Sort of… I mean-"

"Well save it. Do you really think you'd be the first one to tell me that after we've been here for so long? Because you're not. In fact, everyday I have to deal with people calling him by that name and I-…" Makoto clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. He didn't want to hint at the fact that he was already starting to doubt himself.

"Haruka Nanase is dead." Rei said flatly all emotion nonexistent in his voice.

Makoto glared at him, "Is that what you came here to say? Is that supposed to help me or make me feel better? Or did you want me to stay in here for longer?"

"No, of course not!" He exclaimed, reaching forward, but he had nothing to grab so he just awkwardly. "Nagisa and I both want you out of here as soon as possible. We really do want what's best for you, and it isn't healthy for you to-"

And there goes that lecture again. Makoto was sick of hearing it. And of course, Rei being Rei, he would drag it on and on. Makoto rolled his eyes and tuned him out.

What did it matter anyway? Haruka wasn't actually dead, there was no proof! Besides, Mrs. Amakata has said that being around Makoto made him happier. So how could it be unhealthy when it was helping him get better.

While looking off in different directions, Makoto noticed Haruka being led in by another nurse. He looked how he normally would, but Makoto wondered if he was just hiding how he really felt, like Mrs. Amakata said he did. Suddenly Haruka stopped. The nurse turned around and talked to him, but he didn't respond. The nurse took him by the hand and continued walking, Haruka giving little resistance and following along.

What was going on? Why was Haruka acting that way? … Was he afraid of the person he was meeting? Makoto had to watch. Maybe it was the person Mrs. Amakata was talking about.

The nurse led him to a table with a girl who had long wavy brown hair with a bit of red dye in her bangs. She smiled brightly and made a motion for Haruka to sit, but he did not comply. The girl's smile faltered slightly and she mouthed something that made Haruka do as she asked and sat across from her, facing away from Makoto. Her smile widened and she began to talk very animated and happily, but Makoto could tell that Haruka was uncomfortable, just by seeing the stillness in his shoulders.

Her smile fell, and Makoto assumed she realized he couldn't remember who she was. However, she forced it back out of her, but this time in a completely different way that was almost threatening. Instantly Haruka's posture shifted.

He was scared.

A fire lit up inside Makoto. He had no idea who this girl was or what her relationship with Haruka was, but it was dead obvious that she was, for some reason or another, causing problems for Haruka. That made her a problem herself, and that meant that she needed to be removed from Haruka's presence immediately.

The girl stood up, moving closer to Haruka and Makoto sprang into action. Seeing Haruka cowering away from her made him march faster towards them. Her smile was completely gone, replaced with a scowl as she spoke.

"Come on, Baby." She said in a quiet tone, "Don't be like this, you know I care about you, right? I just want things to go back to how there were before between us. You want that too, right?"

"N-no." Haruka's voice was small and if Makoto was any further away, he likely would not have heard it.

"Baby-"
"Hey!" Makoto stopped her from saying anything more and got between her and Haruka. "You need to leave him alone." He said, protectively moving towards her so she had to take a step back.

"Makoto." Haruka said as he unwound himself a little, visibly feeling better with Makoto standing there next to hi. (Which was something that made Makoto feel great.)

The girl looked at Haruka and Makoto, narrowing her eyes. "Baby, tell me who this is." She said in a commanding tone.

Haruka flinched. "M-Ma-Makoto. M-m-my-"

"Your girlfriend? Oh, wait. That's me. And you wouldn't cheat on me, would you?" Haruka was silent. She glared at him and would have gotten up in his face, had Makoto not of been there. Somehow, despite the daggers in her gaze, her smile and tone of voice were still sweet. Synthetically sweet.

But still, that was all it took for Haruka to let out a whimper. Just what had she done to him? "N-no, I-I-I wouldn't d-dare."

"Some girlfriend." Makoto scoffed, "I didn't even know you existed, and we've been practically tied by the hip since I got here."

"What did you say." The girl growled, her attention turning back to Makoto.

"You must be quite the piece of shit for him to not even mention you."

"Makoto!" Haruka tugged on his sleeve to get him to stop.

"Oh, I get it." The girl smirked, the candy in her voice turning sour, "Haruka's said he's been feeling lonely. You must be the fuck toy he's been telling me about."

"...What?" Makoto's strength faltered. Was that really true? Did Haruka only see him as an outlet for his sex drive?

"Makoto, no, "Haruka pleaded, "that's not true, I-" The girl snapped and he cut himself short.

"I always knew something was wrong with him, but I never suspected that he was gay of all things. But I guess he always did have to have his dick in something, no matter how disgusting it was."

"Shut up."

"Excuse me? Oh, did I get something wrong? Don't tell me he's the one taking your dick. That's really fucking disgusting." She spat the words out like acid.

"No, I said shut up!"

"Fucking make me, faggot!" The girl shouted louder as she got up on her toes to lessen the height difference.

"Guys, please." Haruka's voice was getting smaller, weaker by the second.

"You keep quiet! This is your fault, you worthless, idiotic piece of shit, since you can't keep your little bitch on a leash."

That was the final straw that Makoto could take. All his anger boiled over into his fist to make hard contact with the girl's nose. She stumbled backward and almost lost her footing, but she caught herself on the table. Her other hand flew up and dabbed at her nose for her to see. There was blood on her finger.

Haruka flew up from his seat to stand next to her. He wrapped one arm around her back and used the other sleeve to wipe away the blood and some tears that were now overflowing onto her cheeks.

"Ha… Haruka?" Makoto uttered in surprise. Why was he still caring for her? Did he not hear what she was saying?

"I can't believe you let him hit me." The girl spat hatefully.

"I'm sorry." Haruka mumbled.

"You should be."

"... Sorry."

"Just stop talking."

"... Okay…"

Makoto looked around the room, wondering if anyone else had just witnessed what had just happened. The whole room was silent. Everyone, guests, nurses, other patients, and of course, Rei were all watching it unfold.

"Machi..." Haruka whispered.

"What?!" She snapped her head up, also just now realizing that everyone in the room was looking at them. "What the fuck are you all staring at?!" She cursed even louder than before, "Haven't you been in high school before?! Keep your eyes and mouths to yourselves. I am Machi Gyaku, you stupid pieces of shit! How dare you look at me like that?!"

Slowly, one by one, they all turned back to what they were doing, as if nothing had happened at all. Makoto couldn't believe it, even the other nurses were turning a blind eye!

"You seem surprised." The girl calmed, giving Makoto a smug grin, "Did you not know that I have some power in this town? You see, my Father is a very important man."

"I don't care who your dad is." Makoto shot back, "That doesn't make this any less wrong."

"But that doesn't matter I have my name and money to take care of that for me. Isn't that right, Baby?" She pulled Haruka close to her and pecked his cheek. He clearly tensed, but did not protest.

"Popularity isn't everything." Makoto said, trying hard not to hit her again, "Just because you're swarmed by flies, it doesn't make you less of a piece of shit."

"Who cares about that when I can have whatever I want? Money, power, and-" She paused, turning to Haruka. She took him by the chin and pulled him close, stealing his lips for longer than necessary to prove her point, and Haruka didn't even budge. "And I have the man who's absolutely perfect for me." She giggled in a grossly cheerful tone that made Makoto want to throw up.

Suddenly the doors behind him burst open. He turned around to find Mrs. Amakata speedily making her way toward them, and he wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not.

"Just what is going on here?!" Mrs. Amakata exclaimed, immediately turning her attention to Makoto. Did she think that this was all his fault?

"Get this faggot away from me." The girl spat, "He's getting in the way of me and my Boyfriend's visit."

Mrs. Amakata turned a surprised look on her, raising an eyebrow. "Excuse me? What was that?"

"He punched me and he is wasting our time. Get him away."

Mrs. Amakata took a step closer to her. "No. I mean could you repeat what you just called my client?"

The girl chuckled, "I said, get. this. faggot. away. from. me."

Mrs. Amakata looked absolutely furious. So it was a good thing that she came. Still, she kept her cool in her words, "Ma'am. I will have to ask you to apologize to Tachibana-kun. We do not tolerate that kind of behavior here."

"But you tolerate violence against your guests?"

Mrs. Amakata sighed, "That is another matter that I will deal with separately. Now I'm sorry, Ma'am, but I will have to ask you to leave. You are disturbing the peace of this Hospital and it is beyond obvious that Manami-kun does not want you here, either."

The girl glared at Haruka for a moment, then back to Mrs. Amakata. "Don't you know who I am?"

"I do, and frankly, I don't care. Please leave immediately."

"But-"

"Now, Ma'am."

The girl went to protest even further, but gave up. "You're going to regret this when you're jobless." She threatened as she stormed off, pushing someone out of her way as she passed them.

"Oh, I bet I will. Have a nice day!"

The entire room was silent as they watched her go, the door slamming shut behind her. Everyone let out a sigh, as if they were holding their breath the entire time.

Mrs. Amakata clamped a hand down on Makoto and Haruka's shoulders. "My office. Both of you. Now."

Makoto sat in the chair outside of the Doctor's office for what felt like at least 45 minutes, waiting for her and Haruka to finish their session. However, when he glanced up at the clock, he saw that it hadn't even been ten full minutes yet. He kept reviewing what just went down in his head, over and over again, trying to pick out every little detail. That way he could tell Mrs. Amakata everything possible to get Haruka the right help that he needed.

He also thought about how tomorrow, Haruka wouldn't even remember any of it. Or any of anything for that matter. But hopefully his memory problem would be solved once that girl was out of the picture. But it was clear that she wasn't going down without a long, torturous fight that Makoto was certainly not looking forward to.

The door to the office slowly opened and Haruka trudged out, a lifeless look in his eyes. Makoto stood up to greet him, but said nothing when Haruka just continued to walk on without even acknowledging that he was there.

"Tachibana-kun?" He heard Mrs. Amakata say from inside, "Are you still out there?"

"Yeah." Makoto sighed and walked in, "I'm here."

"Have a seat please." Makoto kept his eyes on her, trying to get anything off of her about what she and Haruka had been talking about, but she basically looked the same as she always did. Calm and composed with her legs crossed and a clipboard on her lap, hand poised with a pen and ready to write at any given time.

"So… How do we even start this?" Makoto shrugged, unsure as well. "Okay, how about this? Tell me exactly what happened from your point of view. You were visiting with your friend, right?"

"Yeah, Rei."

"Okay, and then what?"

"I noticed Haruka walk in and he seemed nervous, so I watched him. When he saw that girl he froze, so it was obvious that he didn't want to see her."

"Really? Haruka was just telling me about he felt bad that he couldn't remember who she was."

Makoto suggested, "Maybe it was an unconscious reaction then."

"I see. Continue."

"She seemed nice at first, big smile, but Haruka was still uncomfortable. I think she realized that he couldn't remember who she was and so she got irritated. She didn't exactly show it, but Haruka could tell and it made him scared. So I went to help him."

"And you punched her?"

"Yeah, but not yet. You should have heard the things she was saying to him!"

"Oh? What kind of things. It must have been something to make you so fired up."

Makoto caught her sarcasm. "I'm not a violent person." He said, crossing his arms.

"I know you're not." She smiled sincerely. "Continue."

You must be the fuck toy he's been telling me about. "She just kept saying these horrible lies and calling him names. I was fine with her calling me a little bitch, I couldn't care less about that, but she called him a worthless idiot. So I hit her."

"Did it end there?"

Makoto hung his head. "No. I don't understand why, but then Haruka helped her. He, like… rubbed her back and wiped away her tears and he apologized for 'letting me hit her'! I'm not entirely sure what, but there's definitely something wrong here."

Mrs. Amakata pursed her lips together. "I hate to say it, because here we have been letting her come here to see him, but I have to agree with you."

During all of their sessions together, Mrs. Amakata always sat in her chair, only moving from it once it was time for the session to end. But that time, she stood. "I came to the conclusion that Manami-kun had been badly hurt in some way quite a while ago." She said, starting to pace around the office. "If his amnesia was the only problem, then I'd think it was due to a physical trauma, but given everything else on top of the lack of evidence, I figured that there was more to it." She stopped pacing, her back to Makoto.
"I can't quite remember the first time she visited, but I definitely remember the second. Whatever she did or said to him really freaked him out and he had to be sedated. When he didn't seem to remember anything the next day, same as he had the first time, I began to think something was up. She has been the only person to ever visit him, so I had my assumptions, but I wasn't positive, so I didn't do anything.

"Today was the first time someone had intervened, and the first time I've ever seen her act nasty towards anyone else. After seeing it for myself and hearing what the two of them had to say, I am almost certain that she is the cause at least some of Manami-kun's troubles.
"Almost every time she visits he leaves in a terrible state, he almost always loses his memory the day after the visit, and then today she was caught lashing out in ways that lined up with Manami-kun's reactions and appearance! Things just make way too much sense for her to NOT be the cause!"

"So what do we do?" Makoto asked, making Mrs. Amakata jump, as if she forgot he was there.

She was quick to compose herself again and sat back down in her chair. Flattening out her skirt, she spoke, "We make sure that she never gets to see him ever again."

"Can you do that?"

"It may be tough, but there are some things we can do to pull it off. We'll just have to plan as we go along."

"And what about you? Couldn't you lose your job?"

She sighed, closing her eyes, "I very well might, but… Well, I can't just turn my back on a patient who needs me. If I lose my job because of something like this, then so be it."

"That's good. Not that you could lose your job, but…"

"Aw, Tachibana-kun! That's the sweetest thing you've said to me! I was under the impression that you still disliked me." Mrs. Amakata smiled.

Embarrassment spread across Makoto's face. "O-of course I don't. I'm not an ass who would be happy when someone loses their job. I don't know much about you, you could have five kids that you have to take care of all on your own."

"Five kids?!" She exclaimed, following up with a laugh, "How old do you think I am?!"

"I don't know, forty?" He smirked.

"Do I really look like I'm forty?!"

"Maybe? You kind of remind me of an old teacher I had in high school."

"You're killing me, kid."

A/N: Thank you so much for reading!

I got Machi's name using the translation of "ill-treatment", 虐待. According to online translators, when you separate the characters, 虐 is Gyaku and 待 is Machi. It was very much a last minute decision if I'm honest, but I thought it worked just fine.

Now, technically this chapter has been completely finished for a LONG time now, but I didn't want to leave it off here and not update for a long long time, but the thing is, I have no idea what to do from here... Well, I suppose that's not entirely true. As I mentioned once before, I do know how this story is going to end, I have for a long time, but what I don't know is how to connect a bridge from here to there. I COULD just connect a short bridge to there, but I feel like that would be too rushed and not do the story justice. For a while I was going to have Machi (who up until now I had just been calling "the girlfriend") make some changes around the hospital to make things hard for Makoto and Haruka, but I never figured out what. Nothing enough to write about at least.

So here I am. I'll leave you all with a choice. Either I can just write the way to the end now and take a short bridge, or I can build a more proper one that will take longer to produce. I'm okay with either, but at the moment I am leaning more towards the former. But if you all would like the later more, please leave me some ideas! It will definitely help.

I can promise you that at some point I WILL finish this story. It's just a matter of when that will actually be that I can't promise.

Thank you again for reading. Hope you enjoyed~!
