Bella was laying in the bed asleep. The only movement being her chest as she breathed. I looked at the clock. Seven in the morning. She'd only been asleep for an hour, leaving me to stew in my own thoughts. I had already scrambled the brains of the severed head in the closet just to be certain he wouldn't disturb us.
I was about to head for the balcony for a smoke, until I heard a clicking. My eyes snapped to the telephone. I picked it up before it could ring. Why the fuck would anyone call this early in the morning?
"What?" I hissed out the question, trying not to wake Bella.
"There's- there's a caller- He said he's your uncle." My thoughts raced as I listed all the people it could be. I glanced at the closet. It was most likely connected to that dumb ass.
"Put him through."
"Hello?" A male vampire, his voice sounded domesticated. I could hear movement in the background. He wasn't alone.
"Who are you and what do you want?" I kept my voice calm and even.
"I'm Carlisle Cullen and I believe you have the head of my son." Nothing unexpected there. I weighed the options of different responses. They knew my location, but didn't attack. In the background it was raining. I glanced outside. So they aren't in the city and I could tell they were stationary, not traveling in my direction. That left three scenarios why they weren't here. Either they were too weak to attack, too far away to attack, or my location made it difficult to attack.
How they found me was another problem all together. The piss-ant I decapitated stated his 'sister' had visions. That could cause problems.
"What makes you assume I haven't burned it yet?" Someone in the background gasped. Their knowledge was limited. Good.
"Please tell me he and Bella are alright." When he said her name I almost broke the phone. "She's the police chief's daughter. They'll notice if she goes missing." I knew they could hear her heartbeat through the phone, and the piss-ant knew I was going to 'attack' her.
"She's alive for now." No need for them to know we were fucking.
"We know you're in some sort of relationship with her, but please don't hurt Edward. He was just trying to make sure Bella didn't get hurt." I grinned. This was so much fun, yet completely infuriating.
"How many are in your coven? And don't lie. I don't like being lied to." There was mumbling in the background before a female spoke up.
"Just tell him the truth!" She sounded completely distraught. It seems that they were all very connected. I could use that.
"There are six of us, including Edward." Carlisle said while sighing. They clearly had never been in any situation like this before.
"Names and gifts?" I asked while picking up a lock of Bella's hair. I twisted it around my finger as they mumbled to themselves. "Answer now." I growled out.
"Alright, alright! Esme, Rosalie, Emmett, and I are giftless. Alice can see the future-"
"How does that work?" Interesting, that gift would have been helpful during some of my campaigns. I heard them pass the phone.
"My gift is based on decisions. I see the outcome of decisions." Strange, they could be lying.
"And Edward?"
"He can read minds."
"If that is the case he wouldn't have thought I was going to attack Bella since I'm sure all she's been thinking about is me." I was giving away a bit of information, but I had a feeling it would have a high pay off.
"We don't know why, but he can't read Bella's mind." Alice's voice sounded stressed. That seemed plausible. If Bella wasn't extraordinarily unique she'd be dead by now. "Now will you tell us if he's still alive?"
"Shouldn't you already know the answer to that?" I asked while smiling.
"It doesn't work like that!" Alice's voice broke halfway through the sentence. The phone was taken from her.
"Is Edward alive?" Carlisle said, more in control of his emotions than Alice was.
"Why should I tell you that?"
"We answered all your questions truthfully."
"Yes, but I wasn't done with my questions." I looked at Bella as I spoke. Tracing her curves with my eyes. She'll be sore when she wakes.
"We don't even know your nameā¦"
"Where are you?"
"Forks, Washington, the same town Bella lives in. Emmett is on the highway. He found Edward's body and is bringing it back." A conversation between Bella and her obnoxious friend came to mind. They had mentioned new kids at their school, one of which was leering at what is mine. The piss-ant did look gangly enough to pass as a high-schooler.
"For how long?"
"Two months." Carlisle sounded resigned.
"Awfully long time for a coven to stay in one place."
"We don't kill humans. We just drink from animals. Check Edward's eyes. If they're not black they should be gold." I thought back to when I attacked the piss-ant. Before he passed below me I did see his eye color. It hadn't registered at the time, but it had been dark yellow. "Anymore questions?" I didn't answer right away, letting them squirm.
"That's all for now." I ran my hand down Bella's back, giving her ass a squeeze, knowing she wouldn't wake for a few more hours. She rolled onto her side, giving me a nice view of her breasts. "Your Edward is alive, but incapacitated."
"Please give him back." Love, I could hear it in his voice. Perfect.
"I'm generous, but not that generous. I don't just give people things, unless I get something back in return."
"What is it you want? We have plenty of money-"
"Shut up. I don't want your money. I'm considering my options so don't speak until spoken too." I flipped my lighter open and closed, thinking. If I ask for anything pertaining to Bella I'd be revealing her importance to me. I technically didn't need anything and I could easily steal money. I did need a place to fuck Bella though, but I didn't want to demand a house since that would give them knowledge of where I was. A vehicle then. But that wasn't enough. They said they lived in the same town as Bella. That could be problematic, but I may be able to use it to my advantage. "Two things. I want a vehicle and the other thing we shall discuss it in person."
"A vehicle, yes we can get you one of those. What sort of-"
"There's a car dealership just outside of the city, right off the highway. Meet me in an hour and a half. Come alone." I hung up the phone before he could respond. I waited a minute to see if he'd call back. Good, he knows the one I was talking about.
I flipped my lighter open and closed once while looking at Bella. I wanted to have a quick fuck, but she was exhausted. I went to the balcony for a smoke. All the little humans below me were scurrying about. I put out the cigarette before heading to the restroom to shower. No need for them to know how close Bella and I are.
Bella was still sound asleep when I left. I'd probably be back before she woke, but a note wouldn't hurt. I wrote that I had business to attend to order in food if she wanted to.
I doubted that Carlisle or his coven would try anything, but I was still on high alert as I left the hotel with the piss-ant's head in a bag.
What do you think of how Jasper handled them? Of his demands?
