I approached the car dealership cautiously. I couldn't smell or sense any vampires as I began looking around the lot. A car dealer started approaching me, but turned around when we made eye contact.
I slowly walked around the lot while smoking. I was weighing the merits of the various vehicles. The trucks attracted me, but the open truck bed was going to be problematic if I wanted to haul around bodies. Also most cabs didn't allow much room for fun.
SUVs would probably work best, but they weren't fast enough for my taste.
I finally settled on a sleek black car with tinted windows and plenty of room in both the trunk and back seat. I leaned against a car beside it and began smoking, waiting for Carlisle.
I watched as the different car dealers whispered about me and tried to work up the courage to talk to me. It was entertaining for a few minutes, but didn't keep my attention. My thoughts wondered to last night. How many condoms had we used? I'd lost count. Bella seemed to prefer being on top- no she liked it vertically, against the wall. Shit I'll just ask her later.
I had been impressed that she had endured so long.
After waiting forty-five minutes I sensed Carlisle enter the range of my gift. I could always tell the difference between human and vampire emotions. It was subtle difference, but there. I watched him park in his own car, fancy as fuck. He didn't look how I expected. He looked put together, each piece in place perfectly.
He looked around the parking lot and I felt the moment he spotted me. A bolt of fear caused him to freeze. I loved it, being able to affect people without even saying a word. I took a slow drag from my cigarette before snuffing it out and heading over to the piss-ant's coven leader.
"Good morning." I said with a purposefully menacing smile.
"Goo-good morning." He stuttered as I shook the bag in my hand. His eyes widened when he saw it.
"Go get one of the car dealers. For some reason they won't approach me." I chuckled and watched him walk away before I approached his car. A hospital pamphlet, a laminated badge from a medical conference, and dry cleaning. They're domesticated.
I checked my cell phone as Carlisle came back. Bella should still be asleep.
"How can I help you?" The car dealer asked. I gestured for them to follow me. They were both anxious, Carlisle more so.
"This one." I tapped on the hood of the car.
"Yes that one's a-" I cut off the car dealer.
"I don't care. I've already chosen this one. Let's go inside and buy it." The car dealer was dumbstruck. Carlisle drew his attention and gave him a kind smile.
"Right this way." They both moved so fucking slow. Carlisle kept glancing at the bag I was carrying. Edward's scent was oozing out of it.
"He's fine." I said under my breath.
"He's not moving." Carlisle concern was almost palpable.
"He's alive. Now focus on our trade." The other car dealers gave us a wide berth. I kept my senses reaching far and wide, in case Carlisle wasn't sticking to our deal. I filtered out their conversation as they talked about the technical things.
"Who shall I put the title under?" The dealer looked at me then Carlisle.
"Title?" I asked when Carlisle didn't respond right away.
"It denotes ownership." Carlisle clarified. I didn't want to give my name and I didn't have any legal identification.
"Put it under Bella's name."
"She has to be here in order for it to be under her name." Complications, very annoying. I didn't want to give Carlisle any clues about my gift, but this seemed necessary. I flooded the car dealer with confusion. The car dealer began looking around the room.
"She doesn't need to be here." I said while sending him a sense of certainty. "Give me the paperwork." He handed it to me. I kept a tight hold over his emotions making him feel like everything was proceeding normally despite his logic saying otherwise. I filled out the information from memory, recalling her address from when I saw her wallet. "Everything is in order. Now give me the key." I left with key in hand with Carlisle following me.
"How did you-"
"Car. Now." I ripped off the sticker on the car before getting in. Carlisle flinched as I tossed Edward's head into the backseat.
"Where are we going?" Carlisle asked as I revved the car, instantly enjoying the noise.
"Calm down. I just want to get a feel for how it drives."
"You said there was a second part to our deal." I sped up.
"Forks, Washington," I began and Carlisle was filled with dread. "I'm feeling kind so I won't kill within a fifty mile radius of that town." His dread switched to confusion. "That being said I don't want you or your coven to interfere with me or my actions while I'm in Washington."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean exactly what I said. When I go somewhere I want you and your coven to get out of my way."
"Are you going to be breaking laws?" He asked.
"Do you think you're in a position to negotiate?" I took a hard left turn and Carlisle grabbed the edge of his seat. I passed by the hotel quickly. From Bella's emotions I figured she was still asleep.
"Does this have to do with Isabella Swan?" I hit the break and Carlisle jolted forward. Cars honked at me and I flipped them off before pulling out my pack of cigarettes.
"Do we have a deal or should I light up more than a cigarette?"
"We have a deal." He reached into the backseat and grabbed the bag. Carlisle opened it up and I could feel his utter devastation. "Why isn't he moving?"
"It's hard to move when your brain has been smashed." Carlisle opened his mouth, dumbfounded all over again. "Relax, he's healing. Without his body it will take twelve hours to be fully functioning. Put it back on and it will take eight hours." He reached for the door handle, but I locked it before he could leave. "One more thing." Carlisle turned back towards me. "I can and will kill your whole coven if you get in my way. Just remember that." He nodded so I unlocked the door and he ran away.
