I grinned and continued pretending to eat my rare steak. As I cut into the juicy meat cooked blood oozed out of it. Carlisle and his coven… I haven't sensed any of them since I told Carlisle to get out of my new car. Their presence was a factor I had to take into consideration. They seemed scared shitless, but the emotional tenor that piss-ant had while following what's mine was worrisome. He found her interesting. That was clear, but there was more than just that. He cared for her which meant he was sticking his nose where it doesn't fucking belong.
"Tell me about your town." I said while Bella sipped her drink. Her stunned emotion confused me. "What?"
"It's just that this is the first time you've asked me about my life when I'm not with you." I shrugged at her. I suppose I could make some sort of effort.
"Technically I didn't ask you, I demanded."
"When it comes to our conversations that's the equivalent of asking a question." I didn't respond to her, waiting for her to elaborate. "If I chose not to answer, what would you do?"
"I don't know, nor do I need to know considering you'll always respond in kind." I scowled, trying to intimidate her, but it just made her smile.
"You're an elusive bastard, you know that?" Bella said while laughing. "I can play a mental game of keep away if I want to."
"And why would you want to do that?"
"To set you off, of course."
"You haven't seen me 'set off'. I assure you that it is not pleasant."
"You know I like seeing you all caveman like." She waved a dismissive hand at me.
"I don't become a caveman when I'm angry. I become an unstoppable force." Bella looked away from me. I could tell I had dragged down her lighthearted spirit, especially considering she was just joking. "Besides, there's nothing you could do that would make me angry enough to become that unpleasant man." I gestured for the waiter as I spoke. He came over, feeling anxious because of my presences. "Get a dessert menu."
"I'm actually kind of sad that I can't make you that angry." She said after the waiter left.
"Why do women make no sense?" I asked in frustration. I didn't want to expose her to that side of me due to the fact that it only came out in life threatening situations, and I wanted Bella nowhere near any situation of the sort.
"Why are all men so dense?" She asked in response frowning at me for a brief moment before smiling sadly. "If I can't make you that angry that means I don't affect you as much as I thought I did." She was embarrassed by her reasoning.
"Despite my habit of getting everything I want through brute force I do have monumental self-control." I stared at her, trying to read her expression. The truth would be best in this situation. "The only times I get to that place is when either my life is threatened or someone threatens to take what's mine."
"Ah so I could affect you to that level."
"How?
"I could leave you."
