I debated with myself whether to give Carlisle a scare at the hospital. I've already had enough fun today though. It's about time I scout the residential half of the town… find Bella's home, learn the lay of the land.

It was easy enough to find Bella's home. Her scent seeped out of it like it was calling for me. I was hoping to find her touching herself and moaning my name, but she was sleeping deeply, catching up on all the hours I had kept her awake. I sent her a burst of lust before I left, and she let out a sinful gasp, before peace overtook it.

The cop car in front of the house did worry me. Bella's father being a cop was just another hindrance, but it wasn't an immediate concern, so I let it go.

After memorizing the layout of the town I retreated into the forest, walking at a leisurely pace to burn time. I eventually found a small pond. It was fed by a natural spring and was very pure- probably a watering hole.

The rain had stopped an hour back so I decided to skip stones over the calm surface. After a few hours and setting an all-time personal best of 23 skips in one throw I sat against a tree.

Peter's response wouldn't come for a few more days. I was undecided on how much to tell him. I trusted him to a certain extent, but I wasn't one to share information freely, especially to someone like him. He had a habit of talking too much and not listening enough. It was probably going to get him killed one day, if not for Charlotte at least. Her problem was her love of flirting, which drew trouble to their door more often than not. Her redeeming quality was her ability to diffuse tense situations. She had talked me down from beating the shit out of Peter at least two dozen times.

I tensed up minutely. There was a vampire coming my way and from the direction of Bella's town. I could smell Carlisle. He was anxious, but determined, like a suicide bomber.

I remained seated, even when he was right in front of me. I lazily opened my eyes, feigning disinterest.

"So you're a doctor. How noble of you." I said, spotting his laminated badge. "Why are you here?"

"I want to know why you're in Forks."

"And why the fuck should I tell you anything?"

"I'm trying to be civil. Being civil makes things easier. Can't you be civil?"

"Being 'civil' might benefit you, but I have no use for it, so get the fuck out of here." I said in a monotone. He took a step back.

"What are your intentions with Bella? Why was she gone all weekend? And what did you mean by her being yours?"

"You ask a lot of questions for a man who pretends to be something he's not." I gestured to his pristine outfit and shined shoes. He took another step away from me. "Bella is mine. Any actions towards her, positive or negative we'll be interpreted as an attack on me. People who attack me don't live long. Now get the fuck out of here before I end you."
