No matter what the others said, BB knew he was right. Faith had been there, even if he didn't know how her broken body had disappeared. She had been the only other one with him, and he knew there's no imagining Faith. She was one of a kind, irreplaceable. You couldn't just make her up.
Yet whenever he tried to convince the others, they remained skeptical. Although, he had a suspicion Foxy secretly believed him. It was the way he always stayed out of it when Mangle was scolding BB, telling him he had an overactive imagination, and that he was upsetting Mari.
He'd tried many times to convince them… and he wasn't about to stop.
Pluto was struggling to find the tools that fit into Faith's joints, never mind figuring out how to actually use them. He couldn't figure out what had happened to his powers; he'd thought they were as much a part of him as his head or arm, yet somehow he was here, completely powerless.
He'd been at it for hours that day, searching through the tools he'd gathered from around the building for the right ones to fix her. Faith lay on the table with the arm that had fallen off beside her. It hung loose, and he feared even if she did wake up, it would fall off almost immediately.
"Where the hell is it?" he groaned. "I could swear I had it a minute ago!"
Eventually he found what he was looking for; a power canister that had rolled under the table. He was going try to power her back up, explain the situation and see if she knew how to fix herself. He put the canister in and turned it on. And he waited. And waited. And waited. And with no knowledge of how to use these tools, no powers, and no help, he finally gave in.
"I wish you could wake up, Faith…" he whispered, his words lost in the darkness.
"Guys… we need to talk about this. Faith was-" BB started.
"Just Sleep, just Dream," Mari sang softly.
"Just Sleep, just Dream,"
"No, Mari. Faith was here, you gotta tru-"
"Just Sleep, just Dream," Mari kept singing.
In his hidden room, Pluto started singing a song, which simply came naturally to him.
"In the back of my mind, I was trying to chase a monster this whole time,
"But I couldn't see, the monster was me, and no one heard our cries!
"Now I've run out of tears, the time's come for me to disappear
"Get me out of this mess and away from this stress
"Set me free so I can rest!"
Chica, almost in tears, sung out; "We're only kids who lost our way!"
Freddy, seemingly in response sang in an almost desperate voice; "But if we wait long enough we will be saved!"
Mari wasn't having any. "Just Sleep, just Dream,"
And Chica wasn't having any of Mari's attitude. "This isn't fair, no we're not just what we seem!"
Foxy, for the first time in a while, chimed in. "We want to fly, but our souls are trapped inside,
"It's not a game not to blame we were forced to hide!"
"Just Sleep, just Dream," Mari insisted.
"It's only a nightmare and soon we'll be set free," Mangle soothed BB, sitting him down.
"NO!" He cried, desperate to make them see sense.
"And soon we'll be set free," she repeated.
Pluto started up his part again. "And I've been crying out for help,
"I know I bite, but I mean well!
"Can you see my disguise I'm different inside, can you break this spell?
"Now all the ghosts from before,
"They're knocking and they're breaking down your door,
"So please set us free, you have the key,
"Cause I can't take the pain no more!"
Chica, who seemed to be on BB's side by this point, stood up to Mari and Freddy. "We're only kids who lost our way!"
And once again, Freddy tried to shoot her down. "But if we wait long enough we will be saved!"
"Just Sleep, just Dream!"
"This isn't fair, no we're not just what we seem," she tried again.
"We want to fly, but our souls are trapped inside!
"It's not a game, not blame, we're forced to hide!" Foxy sang, starting to tear up.
"Just Sleep, just Dream!"
"It's only a nightmare, and soon we'll be set free!"
"We're only kids who lost our way!"
"But if we wait long enough we will be saved!"
"Just Sleep, just Dream!"
"This isn't fair, no we're not just what we seem,"
"We want to fly, but our souls are trapped inside!
"It's not a game, not to blame, we're forced to hide!"
"Just Sleep, just Dream!"
"It's only a nightmare, and soon we'll be set free!"
"Guys, no. It's NOT a nightmare. We're NOT going to be set free, by sitting around. Faith WAS here, and I'm going to find her!" He stormed out of the room before anyone could stop him.
The past week or so had been hard for him. His head was still reeling and he was struggling to believe all that had happened after Faith had broken down. He had fallen asleep, and when he woke up, Faith was gone. Soon after, Freddy came around the corner, and immediately ran to him. He called behind him and Foxy, Chica, Mari, and Mangle appeared as well. They took him to a small room with some computers and a box of parts- including the masks of some of their friends. They told him that they were the only ones left. When he told them that he'd been with Faith, they told him to not be ridiculous and that if she was there they'd have found her. They'd been arguing for days over this, and it always went the same- he'd insist she'd been there, they'd insist she hadn't and they'd never come to an agreement.
"Oh Faith," he sighed. "Where could you have gone?"
He searched for hours, hiding every time he heard someone come close. It could only last so long of course, and he was eventually caught by Mangle. He'd been sneaking a glance around a corner and Mangle saw him as he whipped back around, and caught him before he could get away. He was dragged back to the room, scowling and refusing to co-operate. The second he was back, he started to argue again. Even if his search had been unsuccessful, he was still holding onto hope that Faith was still hiding somewhere.
"I swear!"
"BB, just go to bed already." Freddy groaned.
"Make me!"
"BB-"
"No! She's here! I know she is!"
"FINE!" Mari yelled out of nowhere. "GO! Go and look for her again! Come back when you've finally accepted that she's gone!"
"Maybe I WILL!" BB screamed back, running out of the room for the second time that day, painfully aware of the fact that no one tried to stop him this time.
He had found her. He had really found her. But this wasn't what he wanted. He wanted his cheerful, optimistic, snarky sister back. He didn't want a pile of parts and a sobbing stick figure who'd loved her.
Pluto told him everything. How he'd found them and knew Faith needed his help. How he'd dragged her into a back room and tried to return for BB but had been too late. How he'd spent days, maybe weeks, fumbling around with parts he didn't even know how to use in a pathetic attempt to fix her.
And he told him that it wasn't working.
Faith really was gone.
He convinced the group to follow him to her lifeless body, just to prove he'd been right. And to help himself accept that it was really true.
Faith was dead.
And she wasn't coming back.
Fun fact-I wrote two versions of this chapter and didn't realise until I was finished both and was about to upload. Then I had to painstakingly combine the two into a mess that I'm not even sure makes sense, and apparently past me wanted to add a second song, so this is now Balloons/Nightmare, which means I need to change the name of the fricking fic. Thanks a lot, past me.
Bye from ya dead inside boi - Rae
