A/T The time has come to finally bring this story to an end. It was never my intention to postpone it for such a long time. Thank you all for sticking till the end!
YisleDensiHarmony123 I rewrote the chatper so that I could include The "Debt" part just for you. Hope you'll like it.
"It's a love story," Kensi mumbled again leaving Deeks speechless.
He remembered using that exact phrase a while ago. Back to when he was too scared to leave his own home. Too proud to ask for help. Too broken to allow anyone see him like that.
He had built up a wall so high that he was afraid to look down on it. Yet his partner, in her own Kensi Blye way managed to climb up that wall and she made him feel safe. She made him feel accepted. .
That night, as soon as he had rested his head on the couch pillow he could feel losing control of his eyes even though it was absolutely adorable hearing her rumble about Burnt Offerings.
They never did watch that movie after all.
Had Kensi heard him that night? Up until now he hoped it was just a dream. He had convinced himself it was a dream because his partner never brought it up.
Perhaps it was for the best. Things were already too awkward back then to throw the "L" word in the game. Things were still awkward.
Yes, their story could be described as a ''Love'' one. Yes, he loved her with all his heart. Yes, she clearly loved him back.
But were they ready?
Deeks fidgeted with his hair and sighed.
Screw that. He was done waiting. Life is too small to wait. Life is too small to always follow the rules. Even his own rules.
Never work with a female partner. Never get involved with a colleague.
Years ago he had vowed to never let himself get carried away by the looks of any female co worker.
With Kensi though, he wasn't just carried away. He was swept away.
Why?
Because he saw past the obvious.
He didn't fall for her looks. He fell for her personality. There was no going back from that.
She pushed him to his limits. She challenged him. She made him want to be a better man and he liked the kind of man he was around her.
That was it! As soon as this nightmare was over he was taking charge of their future.
His thought was soon interrupted when Kensi stirred and slowly opened her eyes. She was surprised to see him sitting on the floor right next to her.
"Are you seriously watching me sleep Detective? You know that's kind of creepy," she smiled and stood up.
"I wasn't stalking you princess," he pulled himself up and stood next to her.
"I was just curious to hear what you were listening to," he pointed at her earphones.
"Oh, something Nell and Eric gave to me. Did you listen to it?" she asked a little embarrassed.
"No," he shook his head and looked the other way.
"Liar!"
"Me? A liar? When have I ever lied to you?" he asked offended.
"Really Deeks? You want to go there?" she grabbed his face and forced him to look at her.
"I dare you!" he tried to sound fearless but his hands were sweating in fear. He had lied to her thousands of times but always little white lies. How much of those could she actually remember?
Kensi bit her lip and smiled wickedly.
"How about the time you professed to have car trouble but all you wanted was a wing man to score those Yoga chicks. Or, the time you went to Vegas to watch Phantom of The Opera but you told me it was all about a gambling weekend away from work. And don't get me started on how many times you pretended to be sick and I was forced to do all your paper work."
"Oh you mean those lies?" Deeks paused for a second to find a believable excuse. "Those weren't lies…..they were….little….innocent….harmless…..misrepresented…truths…."
"Are you even listening to yourself Deeks?" Kensi rolled her eyes.
"Misrepresented truths huh?" Kensi stood up and placed both hand on each side of her waist.
Oh that wasn't a good sign. She was ready to attack and Deeks wasn't sure if he could handle her verbal hit.
"How about the time you lied right to my face and made me believe you had been fired. You made me believe you had left me."
Suddenly the vibe in the room turned from playful to dead serious.
God he hoped she would never remember that. If there was one time in his life when he hated himself, that was it. The day he looked at her straight into her eyes but didn't even say goodbye. He just turned his back on her.
He could actually hear her heart break as he was walking away from her.
He was supposed to protect her. He was supposed to never let anyone hurt her. But yet that day, he felt like he was stabbing her in back. He kept telling to himself that all he did was to keep her safe, but he never believed his own words.
After that day he feared that Kensi would never trust him again. That all she would see was the con-man he was hiding. A damn good-con man. Courtesy of his years as an undercover Detective.
Why did she have to remember that now?
Deeks couldn't look at her and instead chose to stare at the floor.
"Normally, I would be thrilled that you have all these new memories. About that specific one though, I am not proud at all," he voice was barely audible.
"I know you are not," Kensi sat right next him and took his hand in hers.
"You don't get it Kens. You could have written me off after the way I played you," he looked at her with honest regret in his eyes.
"But I didn't," Kensi firmly responded.
"No, you didn't" Deeks smiled sadly. "You don't trust anyone, but for some strange reason you always trust me. Why?"
"Because I love you," the words came out without even considering them.
Deeks eyes widened in shock. That was not the answer he was expecting, but it was the answer he was hoping.
"Are you messing with me Agent Blye?" he looked at her with a hint of doubt.
"No I am not Detective Deeks," she smiled happily. "I love you. I've always loved you and I know it now. I remember everything. "A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"Everything? What do you mean everything? Like….everything…everything?" he tried to retain his composure.
"Like everything….everything! I had a crash on you since the day you failed to indulge to my seduction. I have been in love with you since the day stormed out of that hospital bleeding just to save me. I had my heart broken when you left without saying a word after your infamous dismissal. I felt betrayed once again when you kept the Monica case a secret from me. And I have known that I can't live without you since the day I nearly lost you to Sidorov."
This was happening. She was finally back and ready to kick his ass.
Without a second thought he placed one hand behind her neck and pulled her for a passionate kiss.
Soon they were breathless and in search for some air. Their fingers were still entwined, as Kensi snuggled against him.
"So this is it then," she smiled as tears of joy were streaming down her cheeks.
"This is it baby," He nodded. "No more games."
"All in?" she asked?
"All in!" he confirmed and kissed her hand.
"When you're all in, you've got all to lose," she looked at him deep into his blue eyes.
"The only thing I am afraid of losing, is you! I am not losing you again," he firmly stated as he placed both hands on her face and pulled her for another kiss.
Deeks was never expecting to find someone who could see the light inside him.
Kensi was never expecting to find someone who could make her cry out of joy and not just sorrow.
They were not expecting to live their happily ever after, but that didn't mean they ever stopped dreaming about it.
