Hey guys! Here's the chapter I promised. I work a lot the next few days, so I don't know when I'll finish the next chapter but I guarantee I will be working on it every day. I have a ton of inspiration right now, so I want to use it while I have it! Thanks for sticking around! Enjoy! Read and Review!
Clare's POV
After having a dreamless sleep, that I was content with, I was not happy at all to be pulled back into reality. Frankly, the moment I hit consciousness, I wished I could go back. Back into the blackness. Unfortunately, I am not that lucky; and instead I am stuck with chills that decided to wrack my body, and had taken me from unconsciousness in the first place.
Slowly, I sat up and leaned against the wall. I pulled my legs up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. This was the first time I truly wished I had worn pants and a heavy sweater. The chills came, and apparently decided to stay.
"Clare? Are you okay?" Adam asked from across the room. I glanced over at him, and realized Eli wasn't in the room.
"I'm cold." I mumbled. I heard, rather than saw Adam get up and walk over to me.
"Here." He pulled his hoodie off and slung it around my shoulders, wrapping me in it. "This should help." He sat down next to me, and pulled me into him.
"Thanks." I replied. "Where's Eli?" I focused on my lap, instead of meeting his gaze.
"Getting food." He sighed. "Heard you guys got into a fight."
"Yeah. I kind of snapped at him. I didn't mean it, but he kept asking me if I was okay." I sighed, leaning my head on his shoulder. "I'm just not feeling right today."
"I think he knows that, he's just worried about you." He said.
I pulled the hoodie around my legs tighter, just as Eli came back into the room. He tossed another one of those sacks into the horde of teenagers, and then walked slowly over to us. He hesitated, standing in front of us.
"What's going on?" Eli asked, looking between me and Adam. I couldn't really meet his gaze for long. I could see pain and hurt. I didn't think I had hurt him that bad. Obviously, I did.
"Clare's cold." Adam stated.
"Are you hungry?" Eli asked me. I shook my head before replying.
"No. And you can sit down. I don't bite." I said.
"I just didn't want to upset you, because I know you wanted space earlier." He said sitting down in front of Adam and me.
"It really didn't have anything to do with you. I just didn't get any sleep last night. And the little I did, was nightmare-infested. Then I wake up and get dizzy and nauseous which is why I wasn't hungry earlier. Now I'm cold. And that doesn't even include what happened last night. So I am just not feeling well, and I'm a little grouchy today." I sighed.
"I understand." Eli nodded. I could tell he looked relieved.
"Can I go to the bathroom? I want to walk around a little." I explained.
"Yeah." Eli replied. "Here." He handed Adam the food, before standing up. "We'll be back." He reached down and took my hand to help me up. "Clare. Your hands are freezing."
"It's probably just because they weren't in the hoodie. Oh, and here." I said, turning to Adam and sliding off his hoodie. "Thanks."
"No problem." He replied taking it, before I turned and followed Eli out of the door. I followed Eli across the hall and into the bathroom. Before he let the door slide closed, he glanced both ways down the hallway and then locked the door.
"You know, I guarantee Fitz won't try anything. He wouldn't dare get on Asher's bad side again." I stated, walking over to the sink. I turned on the water and adjusted the temperature so I could warm up my hands a little.
"I don't want to risk it." He stated, leaning against the sink next to me. "You're really pale, Clare."
I glanced up at the mirror and grimaced. "Great. Last thing I need is to get sick in here."
"I really didn't mean to make you upset earlier." He spoke low, and turned towards me, as I shut off the water and grabbed a paper towel. "I'm just worried about you."
"I know." I exhaled, throwing the paper towel away.
"Are sure you're okay? Do you feel sick or dizzy?" He asked.
"No. I just apparently look it. I mean, look." I put my hands on his face. "Here. See? I'm not cold anymore."
"Good." He smirked. Before I knew it, he pulled me into him and our lips met. I kept my hands on his face, to hold him to me, before I pulled away.
"Whoa." I mumbled. Feeling very dizzy, I leaned back against the sink.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked, placing his hand on my forehead. "You're a little warm."
"I sure can kill a moment, can't I?" I joked, looking up at him, as I slowly started to feel normal again.
"Yeah. Well, it's more important that we get you better. There will be time for us later." He stated, cupping my cheek.
"Will there?" I asked. This wasn't exactly normal circumstances.
"I promise you, we will." He assured, leaning forward to kiss my forehead. "For now, let's get back, so you can eat something and rest. We need you to get better."
I followed him over to the door, and waited while he unlocked it and glanced out and into the hallway before he held it for me. I walked through, and waited again for him to open the door to the room. Once he did, I headed over to Adam and sat down.
"Are you okay?" He asked, before handing over the food to Eli.
"Yeah, I think." I sighed.
"Here. Eat these." Eli stated, handing me some bread and a granola bar. I took them and began eating. We all chatted for awhile as Eli and I finished eating. "You should probably lay down for awhile. You'll have to be awake for placements in a few hours, or the guards will get annoyed, so you might as well get some sleep beforehand."
"You're probably right." I exhaled, cleaning up the leftover wrappings from the food and putting them in the sack Eli always carried our food in.
"Here. You can use my jacket to keep you from getting cold again." Eli suggested, taking it off and wrapping it around my shoulders.
"Yeah. Use mine too." Adam offered his to me too.
"Thanks guys." I replied taking Adam's as well. I draped his over my legs, and sprawled out next to Eli. After I got comfortable, I looked over at Eli. "Can I lay my head here?" I asked, nodding to his leg.
"Yeah. Of course." He reassured. After I laid my head down and got comfortable again. I fell asleep to Eli's hand stroking my hair.
