Chapter 40

Time For Two

The clock ticked. And ticked. Minutes passed by. A body rolled around in the double bed. The covers tangled within her legs. Opening her eyes, she stared up to the ceiling. "Where are you?" Ai said out loud. Ai turned towards the photo frame on the bedside table. "Jason, I need you right now." Ai stared at the photo. She looked so happy. Kissing Jason as she held her two year old baby. Her sweet baby girl. 'Yuki', thought Ai. Tears weld up in her eyes. Ai grabbed her dressing gown from the bottom of the bed. She wrapped herself within it, accepting the warmth from it. Sliding out from the bed, Ai heaved herself up to the window. The street lights flickered outside. Ai rubbed her belly. She could feel the little one moving inside her. "Where's your daddy, David?" Ai whispered. Tears continued to roll. Ai pressed her cheek to the glass of the window. The cold surface brought chills to her body. From the corner of her eye, she noticed a figure. Squinting her eyes, she could make out her husband's face. Ai quietly entered her bed. She could finally rest peacefully. Footsteps squeaked up the stairs. The bedroom door opened slowly. It creaked as Jason softly crept in. Ai's eyes were shut tight. Jason silently sighed. He bent down and kissed Ai on the forehead. He placed his hand on Ai's bump while the other hand was on the photo frame. "I'm sorry." Jason said. His breath smelt like whiskey. Ai could hear his throat cracking. Ai turned to Jason. "Honey." She said. She placed her hand over his, on the bump. Jason's tears rolled down his face. "I'm so sorry. I couldn't save her." Jason quivered and knelt to the ground. Ai kissed his forehead while brushing his hair. "It wasn't your fault. We couldn't save her. She'll be with us forever in our memories and hearts. Because we love her." Ai's eyes filled with tears. The pair hugged each other tightly. Frightened to let the other one go. Jason softly caressed Ai's lips with his. The moon shone through the curtains. The pair climbed into bed and cuddled closely. Their hearts united as one. "I love you, Jason." Ai mumbled as she fell into a deep sleep. Jason moved her hair out the way of her forehead. He kissed her softly on her head. "Me too, Mrs Kirk." He said into the darkness.

"Good morning, Mr Kirk." Ai said. She kissed him on his right cheek. "Good morning, Mrs Kirk." He wiggled his eyebrows. Kissing her neck, she squealed with delight. Goose bumps spread up her spine and her arms. Clasping Jason's wedding band hand, Ai kissed it passionately. "I'm taking a day off for you." Jason said softly. Ai looked up into his eyes. "Don't be silly. You have to go in. You shouldn't take a day off for me." Ai said. Jason kissed her hand. "But I want too." He replied. He grabbed his mobile phone from the bedside table and began typing his work's number in. "We'll have a lovely day together." Jason smiled. Ai hugged him tightly.

Ai clutched at her black dress. "Dammit. Now I can't fit into this. I'm doing this all for you, David." Ai rubbed her large belly. Jason chuckled. He kissed her stomach. "You still look beautiful to me, whether you're skinny as a rake or fat as a house." Jason declared. Ai smacked his arm softly. "I don't look like a house." She said annoyed. Her face turned into a smile either way. "Let's do what we use to do when we were teens." Suggested Jason. Ai smirked. "Not like that." He laughed. "We already have a bun in the oven." Jason changed into a black band t-shirt and jeans. "I mean, why don't we go to the places we use to go to, as teens." He said. Ai pulled out a purple t-shirt and a white skirt from her wardrobe. "Sounds like a great idea honey." Ai placed her clothes over her body, the t-shirt just got over her stomach. "Where first?" asked Ai. "To the Ice Cream Parlour!" smiled Jason. Ai clapped her hands together. She couldn't wait.

Sitting down on a red couch, the couple stared down at the menu. "What flavour would you like?" Jason said quickly. Ai shook her head in disbelief. "You know me so well." Ai laughed. The waiter rollerblade his way over. It was a themed day in the Ice cream Parlour; Rollerblade disco. "What would you like, today?" the waiter said. He almost fell over his rollerblades. "Could I have the banana sundae and Ai dear?" Jason said. "Could I have the toffee sundae with waffles, syrup, bacon and a glass of milk, please." Ai said while rubbing her stomach. "Yes, it won't be too long." the waiter said as he wrote it down on paper. Jason stared at her. "Ice cream, waffles and bacon?" he asked. "Don't blame me." Ai said as she pointed down to her stomach. Jason rolled his eyes. "The little man really does have a weird appetite." He said. Ai grinned.

"New sale at Tiffany's. Get them while they are there." Said the woman in the speaker. The pair smiled as they entered the mall. Teens with slushie drinks walked by with their shopping. Mothers with their crying children, wanting more sweets or toys. "Arcade." Smiled Jason. Ai nodded. The pair strolled over to the retro arcade that has been there since Jason's childhood. "Let's play some zombies." Ai suggested. "I love you." Jason said. Ai strolled over to the empty zombie shooter game. It still had the purple and red painted on it. "Let's begin." The man said in the game. The pair began shooting multiple zombies and other terrifying creatures.

After scoring brilliantly against Jason (and beating him), the pair played other games such as Need for Speeding and Dance Central (which Ai grew tired from). "A quick shopping trip?" asked Ai excitedly. "If it's really quick." Jason narrowed his eyebrows. "Of course, just a few things for David and us." Grinned Ai. Jason grabbed hold of her hand. "Yes, anything for you." He said. Ai smile grew as she dragged Jason up the escaladers towards the Mother to Be store. Couples and new mothers were everywhere.

Ducks quacked and fought over the pieces of bread on the grass. Children were escorted home by their mothers, as the sun set, it was time for dinner. "This day has been so relaxing." Smiled Ai. "We haven't had time to ourselves for a while." Ai said softly. Swans fluttered by on the nearby pond. "Yeah, we don't usually have time for us. We have always been busy with work, family and other things." replied Jason. The pair were sitting on a wooden bench. It overlooked the pond. "We should visit Yuki's grave." Ai said. Jason's shoulders stiffened. "Yeah. We can't leave her alone anymore." Jason whispered. Ai nodded while tears formed in her eyes. Jason held onto her waist tightly. "But we need flowers." Gasped Ai. Jason turned towards the flower beds near the bench. Roses, Sunflowers, daisies and other flowers which laid together within the grass. "Well, we never knew her favourite flowers so we might as well give her a big selection." Grinned Jason. Tears continued to fall from both of their eyes. Jason knelt down between each flowerbed picking different flowers each time.

As the sun recently set, darkness began to roll in. The cemetery looked eerie at this time of evening. Graves sat in an orderly line within the grass in front of an old church. The gravestone with the name 'Yuki Holly Kirk' lay in front of Ai and Jason. The words beloved baby daughter and the birth and death dates were underneath. The grave was a grey stone with white specks over it. Dying flowers lay within the flower holes that were meant for living flowers. Picking the dead lilies from the grave, Jason swapped the dying flowers with the multiple flowers he has picked from the park. Ai placed her hand over her bump and then the gravestone. "You'll be a big sister soon." Smiled Ai. Jason stood beside Ai. "Yes, a little brother. He'll be called David Richard Kirk." Grinned Jason. "Well, we haven't decided a middle name yet." Ai said while turning towards Jason with raised eyebrows. He shrugged his shoulders. "It's a good name." He replied. Ai rolled her eyes. "Anyway ignore your daddy. You were and still will be my beautiful baby girl. I love you honey. May you have a restful sleep." Ai said while bowing. She almost fell over because of the large bump. Jason gripped her. "You didn't tell me you were drinking again." Laughed Jason. Ai punched his arm playfully. "Hopefully you find your grandmother up there. I hope she has you in her arms. Love you both." Ai said tearfully. Jason clasped his hand with hers. "Also tell her that I will take care of mummy and David." Smiled Jason. Tears fell harder down Ai's face. "Yuki, you will always be my beautiful daughter. I love you too, as much as your mummy." Jason said. He blew a soft kiss towards the gravestone. "Time to head home honey, we'll visit tomorrow." Smiled Jason. Ai nodded. A small kick came from Ai's stomach. David was agreeing with that idea. Ai jumped a little as she clasped her stomach. "David would love to come back here again." Smiled Ai softly. Jason kissed her on her forehead and the pair headed towards the exit towards home. Where ever Yuki was, both Ai and Jason knew she was in a better place. The pair wanted more time for two, however Jason had to make a living and support Ai with David. But they both decided to have days for each other too.

Well there we go, another chapter. As I stated on my profile I will be taking a gap year from college thus having more time to update stories, improving my art and working. I will also be doing games so you could add me or send me your ID/name for the playstation 3! Enjoy and have a great day.
