Chapter 42
Family Reunion

The front door opened with a creak. The autumn air entered the cosy household. Abby stretched from the couch. Her fluffy white jumper hugged her body perfectly. The smell of turkey and cooked vegetables invaded her nostrils. "Abby?" called Cree. Abby stuck her head out into the landing. Her sister had just returned from her boyfriend's (and soon to be fiancée) house on the other side of town. "Yeah?" Abby asked as she pulled her jumper over her denim jeans. "Is Junior coming over this year?" Cree asked. Abby shrugged her shoulders. "Abby doesn't know. He hasn't called mama either." Abby said in her usual third person tone. Fumbling was heard from the kitchen. "Mama?" Abby called. Her mother said a few inappropriate words in her native tongue, French. A small cry escaped from a nearby room. "Mama is coming." Abby called, as she walked towards the twins' nursery room. Abby opened the door to find Angela building a ladder out of plastic blocks in the crib. Christopher was trying to hold Angela back from climbing out. "Angel." Abby said, using Angela's cute nickname. Christopher let go of his sister's top. She fell backwards into the soft mattress padding that was in the cot. Abby shook her head. The twins were only two years old and they were already fighting and trying to escape the crib. Abby picked up Angela and bounced her as the tears disappeared, Christopher beckoned for his mother's attention also. Abby, using her skills form the KND, she perfectly balanced the pair smoothly on her hips. She cradled the twins towards the living room. Her sister was reading her weekly magazine. A knock at the door startled Abby. "Don't get up, your highness." Abby snared at her sister's laziness. Cree rolled her eyes just like a teenage. She had not changed since she was thirteen. Abby carefully sat the twins down in front of the couch, as she answered her front door. Kuki's warm smile and furry scarf popped into view. Her green duffle coat snugged her body perfectly. The triplets with their raincoats and wellie-boots on sat in their three-seated pram. "Hey, Abs." Kuki giggled. The three babies smiled up towards their non-related auntie. The triplets were five months younger than the twins and were still classed as babies. "Kuki." Grinned Abby as she gave Kuki a hug. "Happy Thanksgiving." Grinned Kuki. Her wedding ring was bulging underneath her white gloves. Abby was still waiting for Hoagie's proposal. Angela crawled from behind Abby over towards Kuki and the triplets. She let out a type of noise that resembled to a turkey. Kuki squealed with delight and plucked the little two year old in her arms. "You're too cute." Kuki said as she kissed Angela on the cheek. Angela squealed with laughter while Abby chuckled. "You try watching these two for a night, you'll be saying something totally different." Abby laughed at the mischievous moments that sprung to mind. "Aunt Kook." Angela giggled as Kuki hugged her tightly. The triplets grinned up at Angela, she waved down at them while grinning. "Would you like to come in for cocoa?" Abby asked. Kuki shook her head as she placed Angela back down on the floor. "Sorry I wish we could, but we're meeting daddy at the airport aren't we." Kuki said as she turned towards the triplets. They let out laughs as they understood what was being said. "Maybe tomorrow? Twelve o'clock?" Kuki replied. Abby nodded her head she picked up Angela. The triplets waved goodbye as their mother began strolling away with the pram. Abby closed the door over as the cold draft was entering the house.

Clink, clink. Hoagie stared deeply into the test-tubes. "Mr Gilligan." Called a voice. Hoagie jumped as he dropped the test-tubes full of chemicals. They fell on top of the counter. "Yes, Mr Johnson?" Hoagie replied. "University is closed for thanksgiving. Why are you here?" Mr Johnson replied. He was carrying a stack of paperwork that seemed to weigh down his body. "I wanted to test out a theory before Monday." Replied Hoagie. Mr Johnson's black rimmed glasses fell to the rim of his nose. He directly looked down into Hoagie's blue eyes. "Remember to lock up after yourself." He said while throwing Hoagie a set of keys. The boy jumped back a little, as his lecturer shut the classroom door behind him. "Right, let's get back to my theory." Hoagie said out loud to himself. However he quickly grabbed paper towels to clean up the mess he had made. The empty classroom echoed with only Hoagie's shuffling and moving test-tubes and chemicals about.

"Daddy will be here." Abby said to the twins, who were sitting beside the window. Their heads popped up every time a car drove down the street. Abby placed a blue blanket around the twins, she softly kissed them on their foreheads. A car screeched outside and the twins jumped up. Hoagie jumped out from his car in his white lab coat. Abby strolled her eyes. He was fifteen minutes late. Hoagie opened the door and the twins crawled over towards him. He pulled them both up into a large hug. Abby strolled over before one of the twins slipped out of his grasp. Luckily enough Abby caught Christopher in time, like all the other times. "Time for some turkey." Grinned Hoagie. Abby kissed him softly on his cheek. He grinned. "Not that type of turkey." Chuckled Hoagie. Abby smacked him on his arm as she pulled Angela into her grasp. Hoagie winced and rubbed his arm. He pulled the front door open as he pulled Abby's jacket and the twins' jacket from the closet. Abby quickly put the twins' boots on as Hoagie placed the jackets on them. They looked cute in their green frog covered jackets and bright blue wellie-boots. "Let's go to Grandma Gilligan's." said Hoagie. The twins giggled, they knew they were going to have a feast and they couldn't wait. "C'mon Cree." Abby called as her sister was grabbing her boots. Her mother strolled into the living room. She said something in the French which resembled to fancy mumbling. "Oui, Mama." Abby replied. Her mother grabbed a plate full of turkey with oven-mitts and strolled over to Gilligan's car with her slippers. "What did your mum ask?" Hoagie asked. "If we were going to your mum's house the now and if she could wear her slippers." Abby replied. Hoagie cocked an eyebrow up. Strange request.

"But I wanted to watch Will Joel." Crackled Hoagie's grandmother. Her walking stick was useless now as her whole body was now confided to a wheelchair. The walking stick sat directly beside her hand so it was easy to access for any assaults on her grandkids. "You can't watch that on Thanksgiving, mum." Hoagie's mother stated. Tommy from the dining table nodded his head in agreement. The front door opened with a bang. Hoagie was obviously home. "Hey guys." Smiled Hoagie. Hoagie's mother tutted at his tardiness. "Hoagie." She grinned. She was wearing a red apron around her waist. Hugging her eldest son tightly, she was smothering him gently. "Now where's my grandkids." Grinned Mrs Gilligan. The twins smiled from Abby's arms. She was holding onto them excellently well. "Grandma G." Christopher said. Their grandmother picked them both up and strolled over to the dining room. Abby's mother shuffled into the house with the extra turkey, the smell was amazing. "I don't see why I have to be here." Cree said underneath her breath. Abby scolded her sister. "Because thanksgiving is for family." Abby replied. Her mother nodded her head. Abby's feelings soon turned from joyful to sadness as she remembered one person who couldn't be there. Her father. He had tragically died the year before with lung cancer. The years of smoking did not contribute to his health. "Let's eat." Hoagie clapped his hands together. The clutter of cutlery and plates entered the household.

"I'm so stuffed." Tommy said. He burped into his green napkin. Hoagie placed his hands on his stomach. "Yes, that was amazing mama Lincoln and mama Gilligan. Thank you." Said Hoagie as he wiped a tear away from his eye. "We better get dessert." Grandma shouted while waving her walking cane. "Yes mother." Replied Mrs Gilligan as she tied the dirty dishes away. Hoagie gulped. It was now or never. He stood adjusting his woolly tank-top. "So I would like to make an-…" began Hoagie, when there was a knock at the door. After a couple of seconds, the door creaked opened. "Hey, anyone home?" called Junior in a French accent. "Junior?" called Cree and Abby at the same time. Junior closed the door over and hugged his two younger sisters. "You made it." Grinned Abby. Their mother nodded and spoke in French. Junior replied back in French as he gave her a hug. He gave Hoagie a hand shake. "Nice to finally meet you Hoagie." Smiled Junior. Hoagie returned the warm smile.

Hoagie coughed loudly as the families began discussing amongst themselves. "As I was saying. I have an announcement. Abigail. I have loved you since the moment we met when we were kids, back in kindergarten. You may have slightly found me annoying but I knew deep down you found my jokes hilarious." Hoagie winked. Abby blushed. Her heart was beating quickly, was he about to?... "So, I would like all of our families to witness this. Abigail Lincoln, will you marry me?" He said. He knelt down on the wooden dining room floor as he pulled out a blue box with a silver bow. Abby unravelled the bow on top to open the box. She was speechless, she wasn't expecting this. She opened the box and inside was a metal ring that had been swirled together with gold and silver. Inside the ring's band was a blue gem. "Sorry, it's not a real fancy ring, but I made it." Stated Hoagie. Abby's eyes filled with tears. The ring was beautiful and perfect in her eyes. She took the ring and placed it on her wedding finger. "Yes!" she cried as she pounced on him. The pair fell backwards against the hard wooden floor, as their family gawked down at them. "Well done, son." Mrs Gilligan clasped her hands together. Tears fell down Abby's cheeks as she continued to kiss Hoagie's face. "I love it." She said while staring down at her ring. "Finally you do something good." Grandma stated while shaking her walking cane. "So not fair. I'm older than her, I should be proposed first." Cree said furiously, her brother shook his head at her. The twins clapped their hands at their parents' happiness. Finally Hoagie got the courage to propose to the girl of his dreams. The one who punched his arm and secretly laughed at his terrible jokes. Abigail Lincoln.

Well this is unfortunately the last chapter of this story, however more stories are on their way. I hope you all have an amazing day/night.
