Awakening

I don't own anything!

If you claim that I do I shall lock you in hell. Then Insiania, Hel and I will laugh at you for eternity.

There was a moment of silence after my announcement as Pepper and Tony shared a look.

"What do you mean, we have a problem? I assume that this has something to do with that energetic surge that had you ranting for quite a while?" Dad looked at me in question as he and Pepper sat down on the couch. With a sigh and a nod I pulled up all of the data my worm had gathered about the incident with the Tesseract and Loki.

Dad's eyes widened and Pepper covered her mouth with her hand as she saw the disaster showed in the pictures.

"As you know, a little over three hours ago there was a massive energetic surge that I felt along with Insania and Hel."

"Yeah, you ranted about it enough." Dad whispered under his breath but we all heard him. I gave him a small, tired smile but continued anyway. Today was catching up with me, and I was now mentally fatigued as well as physically. It didn't help that all of my aches and pains were coming back as well.

"So, I'm assuming that all of this," Pepper said as she gestured to the many holograms floating in front of them, "Is what you found on it?"

Pepper grimaced at the thought that I had hacked SHIELD, as she didn't like it one bit, but knew better than to bring it up now.

"Indeed." I replied as I rubbed my eyes, "I'll save you the trouble of reading all of this, though Dad I'm assuming that you're going to want to. Basically SHIELD was messing with something they shouldn't have, oh and I figured out where Selvig disappeared to, and there were consequences. The cube that SHIELD had been messing with was called the Tesseract,"

Dad hissed as he narrowed his eyes as I enlarged a picture of the cube. I raised an eyebrow at my father; I didn't know that he was familiar with the cube.

"Howard mentioned the Tesseract a few times while I was growing up." Dad explained and I grimaced. Ah, that would make sense. "Usually during one of his Captain America rants."

"Ah, well SHIELD apparently has it, or well they had it, and were experimenting with it. A few hours ago Fury was alerted because the cube had 'woken up' so to speak and they didn't know what to do. Blah, blah, blah, they couldn't shut it down because it's a bloody power source and a wormhole opened up. This was the first part of the surge that I felt."

I bit my lip before starting the video feed from the lab.

"Loki emerged from the wormhole, or at least I assume its Loki. I'm pretty familiar with Norse Gods after all. Sadly, I don't think it's a social visit considering that he took the Tesseract, took control of quite a few SHIELD agents and scientists, and shot Fury. Though I don't really care about the last one considering One-Eye survived.

"But sadly, that's not the worst of it. The wormhole created by the Tesseract was unstable and collapsed, destroying the research facility. All that is left is a crater. Sadly, there was a large death count and Loki got away with an untold amount of information, and resources." I sighed and rubbed my temples and Pepper clutched Tony's arm in horror.

"Why do I have a feeling that that's not all?" Dad asked as he closed his eyes and sighed.

I grimaced again and continued, "That's because it's not. I don't know what's up with Loki, and from what I've heard of him this is out of character from him. I'll let you know more once I get hold of Hel. However, it's also worrying because as of this moment, we have no idea what Loki is planning. He's a wild card with a lot power to back him up."

Tony sighed staring at the picture, "There goes our peaceful celebration."

"I'm afraid that you both are correct."

We all turned to see Phil stepping out of the elevator. Coulson had a code so he could enter the penthouse whenever he wanted but Jarvis was supposed to let us know when he was coming.

"Thanks for the warning Jarvis." Dad drawled at his AI as I pulled down the SHIELD files. Just because Phil knew I hacked into SHIELD regularly I wasn't about to let him see the evidence of me doing it.

"My apologies sir, but he asked that I didn't interrupt you." Jarvis stated, his accented voice echoing through the room and we all rolled our eyes.

Putting on a happy face I cried, "Phil!" and within a second I was squeezing the life out of him in the form of a hug.

"Hello Penny." Coulson gasped before I let go. I gave him a small smile and led him farther into the living room.

Dad chuckled as he and Pepper pulled themselves off of the couch.

"Pen, come on, I've told you. His name is Agent." Tony smirked as he shook Phil's hand. Coulson was about the only one in SHIELD that Dad could stand…and didn't constantly annoy.

That was probably why Phil was assigned as Dad's babysitter. But hey, no one ever said that it was a bad thing.

"It's good to see you guys." Phil stated as he hadn't been over in about a week and a half…caught up work and such. "Too bad it couldn't be on better terms."

"So, what's up? You know that official consulting hours are on Thursday." Tony stated as Pepper smacked him lightly on the back of the head.

"I'm afraid that this is a beyond that." Coulson stated as he handed Dad a black data-pad. "We need you to look this over as soon as possible…though I have a feeling that you've already see most of it."

Tony eyed the folder before eyeing Coulson, and I rolled my eyes. I thought that Phil had figured it out by now…

"I don't like being handed things…" Tony stated with a glance as Pepper reached out and took it.

"But I love to, so don't worry, its fine." She stated glancing at her boyfriend, she still hadn't figured out why he that little quirk of his.

I of course knew the real reason, but it wasn't my place to say, so I never did.

"So are you guys calling in the Avengers?" Pepper asked but at Phil's stern look she quickly back peddled. "Which…I know…absolutely nothing about…"

Phil rolled his eyes, and gave Pepper a small smile.

"So, what's up Phil? And does your little visit have anything to do with the fact that you guys let a Norse god into your research facility and a wormhole turned it into a crater?" I asked drawing the attention back to me. Phil stared at me wide eyed in shock, just for a moment, before shaking his head.

"Of course you already know about that." Phil muttered as we all sat down in the living room.

"So, since we already know about that what else do you have to tell us? Cause the last I heard, the Avengers Initiative was scrapped." Tony commented as he pulled out the data pad and used the coffee table to upload all of the information into Jarvis' mainframe. Within seconds the files, pictures, and videos were all on the glass table.

"This isn't about the Avengers." Coulson stated shaking his head sadly just as Dad swiped his hand and all of the data was in the air around us.

I raised my eyebrow at Coulson as the personal files of Bruce, Thor, Romanoff, Barton (thought the spies files were mostly censored and blacked out, as well as Captain America.

Dad and I paled and I threw him a worried look. Crap, they had found him.

"Sure it's not." Dad drawled as he rolled his eyes. There was some information about the Tesseract that I hadn't previously been able to get my hands on (yet) like Selvig's notes and research papers, along with more research data concerning the cube.

Coulson actually looked flustered but before he could respond Pepper asked, "What on earth is all of this?"

"Those, Pepper, are the people that SHIELD is counting on to save the world." I stated as Coulson and Dad shared a look.

I rolled my eyes and wished that Mortem was here, he would tell me what was really going on.

"Look, officially, yes the Avengers were scrapped. However…" Phil sighed and I continued for him.

"However, they're also the best bet against an Asgardian god who threatened to step on us." I stated and Phil looked at me in surprise.

"How did you know that?" Phil asked, he wasn't asking how I knew about Loki or anything, he was wondering how I knew that he threatened to step on us.

I shrugged, "Fury said that in his report. Quoted him too, personally, I would be mad too if I got compared to an ant."

Dad snorted slipped his mask on as Pepper and Phil both glared at him. Apparently they didn't think that now as the time for jokes.

Pepper sighed and said, "I think I'm going to take that flight to DC tonight…you two have lots of homework."

"Actually," Tony stated as he started deleting everything that we already knew or that I already had, he was having Jarvis mark the files that I had copies of. What remained a moment later wasn't even two hours' worth of reading, and most of it was just Selvig's notes. "It's not that much."

Pepper looked hopeful and as I tried not to gag I bit my lip. The dark pit in my stomach hadn't gone away, and I had a feeling that Pepper would be safer in DC.

"Actually, Dad…Pepper…I think it's a good idea for Pepper to head to DC tonight. I just have a bad feeling about all of this." I admitted sheepishly, I knew that Tony and Pepper had plans for tonight, but I just had a bad feeling about all of this.

They shared as look and after an awkward moment of silence Dad sighed and nodded, he would do anything to keep Pepper (and me) safe. They shared a quick kiss before Pepper stood up and made her way towards the elevator. After nodding briefly to the two of us, Phil also jumped up and started to follow Pepper.

"Let me give you a ride," Coulson said and Pepper gave him a small smile.

"Thank you,"

They exited the room together and I sighed as we stared at the remaining holograms.

"Well," I stated as Dad stared at the hologram of the Tesseract, "Let's see what else SHIELD has made a mess of."

Dad chuckled darkly but nodded.

I had a feeling that neither of us were sleeping tonight.

About an hour and a half later, when Dad and I were ranting to each other about SHIELD's idiocy, Mortem stepped out of the shadows looking tired, irritated, and fairly ruffled.

"…they are complete and utter idiots. I mean, seriously could they not understand that… Mortem?" I asked, as I froze in shock in the middle of my sentence. "What happened?"

Dad turned away from the hologram and looked slightly worried at the ruffled and irritated appearance of my Bonded.

"What's up?" He asked as Mortem sighed and collapsed into an armchair. Dad and I shared a look before I sat down on the arm of the chair and gave him a questioning look.

"Something is coming love…something that the Mortals aren't ready for." He sighed rubbing his eyes, and I was glad that Dad couldn't understand him. He would've skinned him alive for calling me 'love'.

"What's coming?" I asked as Dad sat down across from us. He raised his eyebrow at me in a silent question but otherwise said nothing. He was used to not hearing our conversations, and knew that I would tell him later. Personally, I think that he was just glad that he could see him.

Mortem just gave me a sad look before he shook his head, signifying that he couldn't tell me.

"Damn," I cursed and Dad sighed. We had both been hoping that one of the Immortals, or Hel, would help get us a few answers. "That's about as useful as a bunch of tacks."

Dad looked at me funny at my metaphor but I ignored him. I personally had no clue where that came from.

"She and I may not get along…" Mortem stated slowly as he looked up and met my eyes. "But you should listen to your Sister about."

I instantly knew that he was talking about Insania, as the two of them didn't really get along very well. Though I had no idea why, also, she was the only one who could get away with telling me anything since she passed on information in such a way that I had to really think to figure it out.

Mortem winced before sighing and I knew that he couldn't stay. He stood up, nodded to Dad before giving me a quick peck on the cheek before he vanished once again.

"Yeah, listen to Insania, cause that will surly help." I sighed, I wasn't mad at him, just frustrated at the situation.

"I don't like where this is going." Dad stated, obviously Mortem's reaction to the current events had just made everything seem a lot worse.

"Neither do I." I told him with a sigh. I didn't just have a bad feeling about this anymore, now I had a feeling that Loki wasn't working alone.

I had a feeling that Fati was involved.

Another Realm

The purple eyed child smirked as she watched her latest pawn continue on its path. Oh, things had become so much more fun since Aequivalere had been taken out of the picture. Sure, she was still a thorn in her side, but she no longer had the power over her Realm as she once did.

That alone gave the manipulative Immortal significant amount of control over the youngest Immortal's Realm. Not to mention, that she now had the other young Immortal on her side.

Chaos had been easy to convince to aid her. All it took was the promise of a lot of chaos and she agreed.

Fati still didn't understand what caused her Sister to change her name. True, her mind was now more fractured then it had been before, but she still didn't understand it, and she didn't like things she couldn't understand.

Oh well, she smirked as she watched the silly Mortal with Daddy issues play right into her hands.

Everything was going according to plan.

Another part of the Realm, unseen

A silver and blue haired Immortal smirked as she saw her Sister's movements. Sure, her mind was chaotic and unstable, she knew that, and she also knew that it was worse when she was in her Mortal Form (the form she used when she visited Aequivalere) but, that didn't mean she didn't know what was going on.

In fact, out of all of her siblings, including Infinitas, she knew the most about the current happenings. After all, she had planned them.

She snickered at Fati's naivety. She honestly thought that she was working for her? Hah, as if she would help that spoiled brat after she had locked her away with nothing except her mind for years. Yeah, like that would ever happen.

Even so, Insania couldn't help but sigh. Fati's tricks had become more and more elaborate. She was becoming desperate, and although Insania was more than a match for her, she knew that her younger sister was trickier to catch then a fish with buttery hands. And she knew, she had tried that one.

She just hoped that everything went according to plan.

Otherwise, she might never get her Sister back.
