I reappeared to the sound of screams coming from the panicked people around me and Dad's frantic calls from the com.
"Penny! For the love of Jarvis answer me!" Dad yelled and I winced at the volume right in my ear.
"Dad, I'm fine." I told him as the pain from my Duties faded now that I was where I was supposed to be.
"What the hell was that?!" Dad exclaimed and I snickered. I really had been rubbing off of him. "It's not funny!"
I sighed and flexed my arms, my Core was practically singing in joy as I got ready to let go. I hadn't really had a chance to majorly use my powers since the whole Ivan thing.
"I know it's not Dad," I reassured him, "Loki's gotten out of control," As if to prove my point Loki shot out a powerful burst of magic that send an oncoming police car flying. "So I had to step in."
Dad sighed and said in defeat, "You're in Germany aren't you?"
"Yup, so I'd hurry up and get over here. I'm not going to confront him; I'm just going to make sure that he doesn't hurt any civilians." I stated and narrowed my eyes as Loki started to duplicate himself and surround the crowd of fleeing people.
"Try to avoid a direct confrontation; I have a feeling that that's what he wants." Dad warned me causing me to sigh and roll my eyes.
I shifted my stance and let my Sparks flow through me and crackle in the air.
"I know." I stated before stretching my power over the whole crowd. I wasn't going to let anyone get hurt.
"Kneel before me!" Loki screamed slamming the staff into the ground as it glowed a menacing dark purplish-blue.
My Duties twitched when the staff glowed once again, and I had a feeling that it wasn't a mortal, or Immortal weapon.
Everyone looked around in worry, and I threw up a large shield around the crowd. Loki didn't notice anything, and for that I was glad. He didn't really seem to be himself at the moment.
"I said kneel!" Loki screamed and as I wandered closer I noticed that his blue eyes were practically glowing. Slowly the humans dropped to their need, fear evident in their eyes.
"Hel," I whispered to myself. "Your Dad is walking a dangerous line here."
I didn't want to hurt him, because of how familiar I was with his daughter and brother. But Dad would if he stepped over a line, not to mention everyone else at SHIELD.
"Dad, you might want to boost your speed. I really don't want to out myself, but I also don't think Mortem will also be happy with me if Loki starts a massacre."
"Don't let him." Dad replied quickly, "I'll be there in ten."
Nodding to myself I decided that I was no longer just a spectator. Loki was about to start monologuing but I interrupted him before he could even start.
"Oi!" I screamed, my powers amplifying my voice and causing it to echo around the park. "Tall, horned and demented! What the sodding hell do you think you're doing?"
Loki spun around, his eyes narrowed and his mouth set in a snarl. The mortals also glanced around trying to find out who had stood up to the powerful madman. Loki hadn't even spared a glance at the mortals kneeling before him. I had a feeling that he didn't think one of them would stand up to him like that.
"I am taking claim to my birthright." Loki drawled out coldly, his eyes narrowed. I snorted, and it also echoed around the area.
"This isn't your word, Asgardian, and there is nothing here for you to claim." My voice echoed menacingly, and my sparks had altered it so that I barely recognized my voice. "You should return home, before you are forced back onto Asgard."
"Forced? You cannot force one such as I! I am a God, and I demand to know who dares to challenge Loki!" He yelled and the staff glowed again, causing the crowd to flinch back in fear and for my Duties to yell at me.
Ok, something was seriously off about that Asgardian.
"It matters not who I am." I stated as I started circling the crowd, I needed to get these people out of here, away from Loki and the fight that would eventually break out.
I started at the back, simply touching a person and letting my sparks flare, teleporting them away. This was one of my newer powers, one I had only recently gotten. I didn't have full control, so I could only send them about a block away.
But that was good enough, since I could see the police at the edge of the block. That was where I was sending them; that was where they would be safe.
"Know this, Loki." I couldn't help but sneer his name, "son of Odin, brother of Thor, prince of Asgard, and father to Hel."
I watched as Loki sneered, his eyes still trying to pinpoint my location.
"This world is not as defenseless as you believe; we are not your people to rule!" I yelled, and people finally started to notice that some of their own were vanishing. Thankfully, they didn't react; because it would be bad if Loki noticed that his captives were slowly vanishing.
"It is my birthright!" Loki screamed, throwing his arms in the air like a young child told he couldn't have candy. Four more people disappeared and slowly the tension in the crowd was fading, however the tension in the air was growing.
"Dad, you better hurry the hell up." I muttered, knowing that he was probably listening in on this conversation.
"Seven minutes." Dad stated coldly and I shivered. He sounded pissed.
"Not here, Asgardian. Your place is on Asgard, and your birthright is something that you earn. Not something that you demand!" I told him, and with a wave of my hand another four people vanished. I winced as my Core flashed, I was using a lot of my power, but it didn't matter. I had to keep these people safe.
"But this is your natural place!" Loki declared and I sighed, yeah he was insane. "It's the unspoken truth of humanity, you all crave subjugation!"
Loki started moving through the crowd, trying to keep them intimidated and trying to discover where I was 'hiding'.
I rolled my eyes as a few people scoffed before I sent them away; I had already evacuated about….twenty people. Only forty more to go.
"And what would you know about humanity? Last I checked you were an Asgardian, you nut case, and even if you're also a Frost Giant...so what?" I winced as Loki's eyes narrowed in rage.
Ok, wrong thing to say! I hadn't even thought about it to be honest! I knew of his true parentage because it had been in the large book of Norse myths that Mortem had told me was very accurate last year.
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!" Loki roared and many people dropped to the ground as a large magical blast shot out of the staff and caught a nearby tree aflame.
Mentally sweat dropping I threw a bubble of my sparks out, and managed to teleport fifteen people away at once. Instantly I felt the drain and almost dropped to my knees, I could feel my Core thrumming as it tried to replenish my energy. I was now covered in sweat and it hurt to breath.
"How dare you, you filthy little mortal!" Loki screamed and I got a very strange sense of Deja Vu, although I had a feeling that the word 'mortal' hadn't been used last time.
Panting lightly I got back to my feet, I knew that I was testing Loki's restraint and that I needed to get these people out of here before Loki took his anger out on.
"Who said that I was mortal?" I asked, pushing a bit more power into my voice to make it eerie as I teleported another three people away.
"Mortal, immortal, it matters not! For I am above you all! The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power! You are mere ants, trying to crawl atop another. You were made to be ruled, it is your place to kneel!" Loki exclaimed and I had to give him credit, he did have a way with words.
"Your title suits you, God of Mischief and Lies; however your silver tongue will have no use here." I stated as I stepped closer to the Asgardian, who had yet to notice that half of his audience was now gone. "But your ego blinds you and you let your pain fuel the darkness that creeps over your mind and into your soul. You are no King, merely a pawn on another's board."
One lady had seen me teleport a few people away, and although her eyes widened at the sight of her colleges vanishing in a shower of sparks, she thankfully said nothing.
"LIES!" Loki exclaimed, and at this I laughed even though my energy was fading.
"Surely the God of Lies can tell when he is being deceived?" I mocked him, hoping that Dad and SHIELD would be here soon. I was getting low on power. "Or has he simply forgotten how to see the truth."
Loki sneered but didn't respond, I wondered where all of this was coming from, as I barely knew anything about the Asgardian.
'Had I known him in a past life?' I wondered but shrugged it off. It didn't matter now. Spreading my sparks wide I took a deep breathe. There was only about thirty people left, and Loki's patients was wearing thin, and so was my energy.
I needed to end this.
"Your whole, pathetic world will kneel before me!" Loki exclaimed and suddenly a blast of magic struck only feet away from a civilian. My Duties and anger flared, how dare he!
"You have two options! Reveal yourself to me and I'll smite you down for your words, or remain hidden like the fool you are and watch as these insolent mortals suffer in your place!" Loki screamed and everyone remaining in the crowd backed up, whimpering in fear.
Righteous fury burned through my veins to a point where I couldn't even feel my Duties telling me to smite this annoying bug.
Before I could respond however, Loki shot a blast into the crowd, aimed for a young woman barely twenty five.
In a flash of power I was in front of the woman, my sparks flying around my invisible form. The shield I had created was stretched thin, but the blast of magic was suspended in the air in front of us.
I was panting with the effort, and the people around me were screaming. My head pounded as the alien magic fought against my Sparks. I pushed harder, and suddenly with an explosion of power, the magic was thrown back at Loki.
However, he simply waved his staff and the blast impacted the burning tree, causing a large branch to come crashing down onto the ground.
"So, there you are!" Loki exclaimed as my sparks vanished and any indication of where I was vanished along with them. "Your powers are impressive mortal, but they are no match for me!"
I was trying to ignore him, and the pounding in my head, as I pushed harder and harder, and teleported away more and more people.
"When I have defeated you, nothing shall stand in my way!" Loki yelled, completely delirious.
I snarled but didn't reply, and with a large wave of powers that caused me to fall to my knees all but ten of the remaining captives vanished.
Finally, Loki noticed.
"You wish to save these pathetic bugs? Fine, but sooner or later, they shall bow to me!" Loki exclaimed, giddy like a young child.
Suddenly, as I was climbing back onto my feet, my breathing labored, an elderly man stood up with a defiant look on his face. I could tell he was going to stand up to Loki, and wanted to praise and smack him at the same time.
"Shit." I mumbled, and swayed as I stood. The teleporting had taken a lot out of me, as well as constantly maintaining the shield and reflecting Loki's blast.
I didn't know how much longer I would last.
The man's English was broken and simple, but even then it was probably one of the most inspiring things I had ever heard. "Not to men like you."
Loki sneered, but suddenly laughed. "I am a god; there are no men like me!"
The old man simply stood in defiance, even when Loki pointed his staff at him and it started to glow.
"There are always men like you." He sighed. I was surprised as I realized that the man sounded sad for Loki.
But once again Loki simply sneered; I closed my eyes and drew the last shreds of my energy to my palms.
"Look to your elder people...let him be an example of my power!" I heard Loki state, and that was the l
"YOU SHALL NOT TOUCH THEM!" I screamed and a wave of energy blasted out away from me and wrapped around each of the remaining people. With a large shower of sparks they were all teleported away, and I collapsed onto the ground. My shield fell and my invisibility almost fell. My head was spinning and my stomach was trying to climb up my throat.
Suddenly, the ground shook as something fell only a foot away from me, and horror filled me. I hadn't missed someone, had I?
The sound of something being blasted back inspired me, and I managed to force my eyes open. I almost laughed at the sight of Rogers kneeling on the ground, and Loki's ruffled form on the ground.
I did manage a small chuckle. Wincing I managed to sit up, although my head throbbed painfully and my vision spun.
"About time you bloody showed up." I muttered to myself, my voice hoarse and faint.
"Penny, are you alright? I'm two minutes out." Dad's voice seemed to echo and waver to my tired brain.
"Just...tired…" I mumbled as I shook my head. The game wasn't over yet.
And ENTER LOKI
Hehehe
Anyway, these will be getting up quicker now that it's Spring Break,
Thanks to everyone
