Awakening
I own nothing. I'm not in the mood to argue with out, so go fuck off.
As I reappeared a few corridors away the choking despair that I had felt vanished, in fact, it was like all of my emotions had vanished. I felt….empty.
My mind was in turmoil, and I knew that I should have been sobbing, but my body wasn't responding. There were now more tears in my eyes, and I no longer wanted to cling onto my father for dear life. I knew that this was my Immortal side taking control to sooth my Mortal side, but it was still strange.
I knew that Immortals' emotions were less volatile and took much more effort behind them, but it was still strange.
I strolled down the hall with purpose in my steps and an aura of power around me. I knew not what my Duties were calling me to, but for what little Immortality I had to gain control, I knew that it wasn't time for games.
I knew not what awaited me ahead, but I knew that it wasn't to watch or to observe. It was to make my role in this game known.
It was time for Loki to realize who had had been dealing with, SHIELD be screwed.
With a surge of my Soul my silver cloak settled around my shoulders and the hood covered my face. If my Immortal half wanted to go all out, then I would.
I didn't pause, and my stride didn't slow as I passed Thor and Agent Coulson speaking about Jane as they made their way down the opposite side of the hall. I noticed that Thor glanced around in confusion as I passed him, and knew that he must have sensed me.
I wasn't holding back; my full aura (or as full it could be at half power) flowed around me like a storm, and as an Asgardian Thor would be able to sense it. For a brief moment I believed that our eyes locked, but the moment passed and he said nothing. He simply turned his attention back to Coulson and continued down the hall.
I didn't pass anyone else important on the way there, and it took me less than five minutes to reach Loki's cell. I wasted no time and phased through the door, ignoring the four man guard that was standing before it.
I reappeared on the other side of the door and knew that this was going to be a breaking point, things were going to change. I didn't know what exactly, but since I had a sense of the end before, I had a feeling that SHIELD was going to discover me here.
With a sigh I closed my eyes and concentrated on my Bond with Mortem. Mortem was talented with the Bond, being able to sense me and my thoughts without much effort, but it was harder for me because of my Half status.
A twinge of feeling appeared in my chest but vanished before I could identify it. Concentrating and calling forth my power I projected,
"I love you, my Bonded."
There was a brief moment of silent, and just when I thought that perhaps I hadn't managed to project the thought to him, his voice echoed through my mind like smoke.
"And I, you, my Bonded. Fear not the unknown, for we never walk alone." I didn't know if Mortem knew what was to come, as that was Infinitas' Realm, but I accepted the advice and peace that came with it.
Opening my eyes I let my power swirl around me as I narrowed my eyes at Loki, who finally sensed that he was not alone.
"I was beginning to wonder if you had forgotten me." Loki stated with a sneer, his eyes flickering around the room, trying to locate me.
I pushed my power out, encompassing the whole room, to keep Loki guessing at where I stood. I did not answer him as I did this, SHIEL's most advanced cameras were in this room, and I knew that if my energy so much as touched them the alarm would go off. I had managed to get away with speaking before because SHIELD had yet to activate them at full power.
But now they were, my worm in their system had told me so.
Besides, I was done hiding. I had done so my whole life and now wasn't the time to play from the shadows, even if that was what Immortals were supposed to do.
I would have communicated mentally with the Asgardian, but I wasn't able to do so in my current form. I gazed at Loki, wondering what the reason my Duties called me here for.
"Your silence speaks wonders," Loki stated after a moment, his silver tongue and sharp mind coming out to play. "You're quite powerful, my magic practically sings as I sense it. It feels like a warm breeze after a winter day. It's strong, warm, energetic, and oh so fascinating."
I didn't bother to wonder if what he said was true, as that was how Mortem described my Immortal powers, though he used the word, electrifying, a bit more.
"You are quite the strange one, for you challenged me when the Mortals were unready to do you. You protected those weaker than us from me, and you played peacemaker with my brother. Yet you have yet to strike, you have yet to prove me wrong. You say that these humans are protected, yet I see no one protecting them. Surely, one as powerful as yourself would have many allies to stand against me. Yet I have seen no one, no one of power to stand up. I only see you, and the pathetic worms that you claim to protect."
My Duties screamed at Loki's words and I narrowed my eyes, yet still didn't respond. There was a time for everything; I had learned this long ago.
Loki's time would come.
With a smirk, Loki spun around and stared directly into the camera closest to the cell, the very one that he spoke towards early.
"You see, I don't believe that the Mortals know you're here. For you've been hiding in the shadows, trying to remain unseen from everyone's eyes. You claim to be their ally, but how can you be so when they know not of you? You may try to protect them, but they simply see you as an enemy." Loki stepped closer to the glass, his blue eyes practically glowing.
"You too shall pay for challenging me, for even if the sweet power I taste on my lips is true, you have crossed me one too many time foolish Mortal." Loki sneered, and I narrowed my eyes at him. My confrontation with the Asgardian will come, but not yet.
"You follow me here, you claim to be on their side, yet you have yet to lend a hand to these foolish Mortals with anything more than empty words. You stand here before me, too much of a cowards to show your face; and yet you claim to be protecting them!
"Your words are empty, and your actions show nothing. I see no protector, I see nothing more than a worthless, insignificant worm who knows how to spin words for others to hear." Loki spat out and suddenly my Duties twitched letting me speak.
I knew not if Fury or anyone else was watching this, but I didn't care. Loki was interfering with my Realm, even if I knew not what that was either, and it would not continue.
"Do you know what I see Asgardian?" I asked, my voice echoing loudly across the room like the wind before a storm. "I see a spineless excuse of a man playing god. I see a mere boy who has let years of pain and jealousy fester and brew until it fractured your mind and made you a pawn.
"You claim my words are empty, but they are not Asgardian, they were simply a warning. You intrude on our world, claiming to be our kind, claiming to know what is right for a world you have not stepped foot on in eons. You come here yet your plot isn't your own, and your scheme is being spun by another.
"You may have planned for every player on this board, you may have seen how everyone would react, but you were blind to the once piece that mattered." The chilling tone in my voice could have rivaled Mortem's and I supposed that being Bonded to Death had its benefits. "You could not plan for the once piece that you couldn't see. You couldn't have planned for me, and even now as you try to spin a plan against me in your simple mind, it shall not work.
"For I am no mere Mortal, you ignorant Asgardian, and I shall be your undoing. You crossed the line that I keep, you have blindly stumbled into my territory, onto my game board; and I am not letting you free.
"You wish to play god?" I sneered and knew that others were watching me now, but I didn't care. Loki had gone too far, and I needed to show him that. "You wish to rule? You wish to see us beneath your feet?
"Too bad, because it shall not come to be. You've made a mistake Asgardian, for you have angered me. For you don't know who you're dealing with." My power swirled like a hurricane around the room, and without hesitation, I dropped my invisibility.
"I may not know who you are." Loki sneered as he took in my cloaked appearance as my cloak fluttered in the breeze caused by my powers. "But it is not I who have made the mistake. It is you who knows not who you are dealing with."
Just as Loki finished speaking a red light and blaring noise that was the alarm burst to life and he smirked.
"Security breach on Level 4 sector seven; all available units move in. I repeat we have a code blue security breach…"
"You are a foolish Mortal, can you not sense when a trap is waiting for you?" Loki sneered, and I chuckled as I vanished from sight just as the guards burst in through the doors.
"Can't you tell when you've been played little Loki? I've known that SHIELD would become aware of me in this conversation, yet I came and spoke anyway. I know what awaits me, but do you? Heed my warning Asgardian, you shall not win." I said, not really sure where half of the things I were saying were coming from.
Two of the guards rushed forwards to sweep the room while the other two remained by the door, all four of them were armed and ready.
"Show yourself!" A random agent yelled and I sighed. Now wasn't the time for me to go with SHIELD.
"I'm afraid that that will not be possible." I stated, making my voice echo to confuse them. "I have things that I need to do to ensure Loki's fall. Now, if you'll excuse me."
The SHIELD agents shared a look as I called my sparks to me. With a leap I hovered over the agents head and sprinted down the hall. My emotions had yet to come back yet, and I knew that they wouldn't until what was needed to be done was done.
Loki was only the first part; the major move had yet to be made.
I had to leap over the guards because I couldn't phase through people, for some strange reason that I didn't know of. Following my instincts I threw a shield up around myself as I ran quickly through the hordes of agents flooding the halls. My sparks danced around me, making my sensing keener, however they weren't enough for to sense the woman only four feet in front of me.
Sliding under a few agents' legs, I skidding around a corner and crashing head first into Agent Romanoff.
"Damn!" I cursed as I fell backwards onto the floor, the shock of physically running into the woman causing my invisibility to flicker and drop.
Romanoff's eyes narrowed as she saw me become visible. She had also been knocked to the floor in the collision, and she looked pissed, or as pissed as the cold agent could.
We stared at each other for a microsecond, before we both leapt to our feet and it started. Romanoff flew towards me, almost faster than I could see and it took all of my powers coursing through my body to avoid her. I rolled to the ground before teleporting behind her.
Sadly, I came face to face with a barrel of another Agent's gun.
"LEAVE HER TO ME!" Romanoff yelled as she spun around towards me again. I teleported away, but Romanoff was expecting that and was on me almost as soon as I reappeared. We threw kicks and punches at each other. My Duties told me not to hurt the girl, so I didn't, but I didn't let her hurt me either.
The older redhead was fast as a blade slid into her hand and I was forced to block with my gauntlet. Romanoff didn't land one blow on me, but neither did I. I refrained from using my powers because I wished SHIELD to see that I wasn't their enemy.
The flashing red lights from the alarm caused Romanoff to squint, and as I kept dodging every move she made, I was slowly able to back her up the hallway.
The other agents were waiting on both ends of the hall, waiting for one of their best agents to take me down.
But we were evenly matched, physically, and I didn't want to harm the human.
"I'm not your enemy!" I shouted over the alarm as I slid under Romanoff's legs.
"Perhaps! But you aren't authorized to be here!" Romanoff yelled, and I was surprised to get a response out of the woman, and she managed to get me in a headlock. I sighed in relief at the fact that my hood was still up when I flipped over her head, and sent a small amount of electricity into her arm to loosen her grip.
She lunged forward to wrap herself around me like she had with Happy all of those months ago I twisted and jumped into the air, launching off of her shoulders. In the air I kicked off the wall, flew over the other Agents' heads, and took off down the hall.
My shield fluttered into view around me as gunshots echoed through the hall and bullets shot past me with deadly accuracy.
"Get her!" I heard Romanoff yell, and suddenly all of the agents who had previously just been watching were also firing at me.
"Shoot." I muttered to myself as I felt my human side slowly start taking control. Now wasn't exactly the best time!
I slid around another corner only to see a whole squad of agents blocking that corridor off, spinning on my heel and pulling my invisibility back up I took off down the opposite hall. I bit my lip in panic as my human side took over once again, and I tried to Flash away.
Panic flooded me as I realized that my Immortal half as still blocking most of my powers. Cursing the fact that I had no idea what I was supposed to do I kept running.
Taking a chance I spun on my heel, seeing another squadron of Agents heading straight for me, I tried to phase through the wall. However just as I was about to touch it, a purple glow surrounded them.
I screamed in pain as I flickered back into visibility and as the foreign, strange tasting power surged through my system, causing my Core to be overwhelmed with energy.
I collapsed again the floor as the strange energy vanished, leaving me shaking and my vision blurring.
"Fire at will!" Romanoff's voice echoed down the corridor and I cursed whatever kept me from phasing through the wall. I knew that it wasn't SHIELD tech, as they had nothing that could stop me. I threw up my shield just in time, though it caused me to pant under the strain.
I didn't understand it, I shouldn't have a problem getting away from SHIELD, but for some reason most of my powers weren't responding and whatever that energy had been surrounding the wall, it had sapped all of my strength.
My eyes widened as I realized that the bullets weren't bouncing off my shield like usual, they were merely being suspended in the air. That meant that my power was even lower than I thought.
I tried to move, to stand, to do anything, but I realized I couldn't. Literally, the only thing I could do was keep my shield up.
I scowled as I realized that it was probably my wayward Sister who was causing me these problems.
The agents would overwhelm me eventually; I could feel my remaining energy being sapped and knew that I wouldn't be able to hold my shield up for long.
"I'm on your side!" I screamed, hoping that they would cease fire. But they didn't.
I glared at the agents as they continued to fire, and keeping one hand up to support my shield I reached down to the bracelet that hung just above my gauntlets.
My whole body shook and my Core fluttered, causing my shield to ripple just as I clicked the panic button on the bracelet.
Leaning my head back I let a sigh of relief break through my lips. Daddy was coming; he could fix all of this.
Closing my eyes against the strain that felt like fire in my veins, I mentally cursed my Immortal side. Why the hell was this supposed to happen?
Was going to make this chapter and the next one the same, but it ended up too long, again.
What's up with almost all of Awakening's chapters being long?
Eh, oh well.
Like I said, reviews appreciated, I need the cheering up today.
