Hey Guys! I just got into a roll. I literally have this chapter and another chapter made. However, bad news is, that I can't post the other chapter I have done, because there is another chapter that goes in between that I haven't finished. Confusing I know, but I'm working on that one now. So hopefully I'll get it done soon.
As always, Read and Review!
Clare's POV
Fear was coursing through my veins. I could see them getting closer and closer the more I ran. I tried to run faster but it didn't seem to do any good. They were faster, and I knew it. Even my surroundings knew it. I was in the park that Jake found me in. And it was night, making it empty and silent. Everything was eerie, making me more nervous.
I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head, as I was ripped backwards towards someone. When they pulled me against them, they spoke.
"Clare. Shouldn't you know better than to run from me? I will always find you." K.C. whispered in my ear.
He was clutching my hair in his fist to keep me from trying to escape from him. I kicked backwards at him, making him loosen his grasp on my hair and I tried to run. However, in less time that it took for me to start running, I was thrown to the ground. My head hit the ground and it ached. I turned over, staring up at K.C.. He kneeled over me, looking furious. I was still trying to focus from my head hitting the ground, that I couldn't really move away.
He wrapped his hands around my neck, and began to squeeze. I tried kicking out, but it was no use. He was in a better position then I was. Plus it was getting harder to think since he was cutting off my air supply. However, I must have gotten off one good kick because he used one of his hands to slap me in the face.
The slap was what woke me. I shot up in bed panting. I was shaking so bad, that I couldn't even see clearly in the dark room.
"Clare? What happened? What's wrong?" Eli asked, sitting up beside me. "Clare. You're shaking. What happened?"
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I don't want to die, Eli. I won't hurt myself again. I won't. I promise." I began sobbing.
"Hey. It's okay. Come here." He pulled me to him, trying to stop me from shaking.
"I'm scared, Eli. I'm so scared. They are still out there. They can still get us. I don't feel safe. We aren't safe." I stated.
"We are in police protection. I promise you they will have a lot to get through before they get to you. Even though you don't want to hear this, they will have to get through the cops, my parents, and me, before getting to you. Trust me. You are safe." He reassured.
"Then why don't I feel it?" I sighed.
I leaned against him, not able to sit up on my own anymore. I glanced down at my wrist, using the light from the bathroom to see with, I used my other hand to run over the cuts. They stung, but I guess I deserved it. I noticed Eli watching what I was doing, he continued watching for a few moments before taking my wrist and kissing it lightly.
"I don't know, Clare. Only you do." He spoke quietly. "Come on." He said getting up.
"Where are we going?" I asked, following suit.
"Well you aren't going back to sleep any time soon anyways, so I figured we could take your mind off things." He stated. "Grab your shoes." He gestured to mine while grabbing his own. When mine were on, he guided me out of the room.
I followed him into the main room, where it showed that it was clearly late. His parents weren't around and there was a new officer sitting on the sofa. Meaning a new shift. Plus, the clock on the wall said it was after two in the morning. Eli headed to the door, and I followed him out. The officer in the hallway trailed after us. We passed Adam's hotel room, and the guard who was standing outside it.
"Eli? Where are we going?" I asked, as the doors to the elevator closed. "Because we aren't dressed for going out. And I didn't bring my phone."
"Who said anything about going out?" He retorted, smirking at me.
The elevator doors opened up to the lobby, but we didn't head towards the doors. He directed me down a hallway, passed a dining area and a weight room. I smelled the chlorine before I even realized that's where Eli was heading.
He pushed open a door that led to a large, well lit room. In the center of the room was a large pool, with a hot tub built in on the shallow side. Lounge chairs and tables were surrounded around pool. There were no windows in the walls, however, there was a large skylight that was in the center of the ceiling, allowed stars and the moon to shine down on the water.
"Are we allowed to be in here?" I asked, as I followed Eli over to the chairs.
"Why wouldn't we be? It's a twenty-four hour pool." He stated, sitting down and taking his shoes off. When he started taking off his shirt, I became confused.
"What are you doing?" I asked, glancing around, embarrassed. We were the only ones in the room, the police officer decided to stay outside the door.
"What do you think I'm doing?" He retorted. "I'm going for a swim." He stood up, beginning to take off his sweat pants. He tossed them to the side, with his shirt and shoes, before walking over to the edge of the deep end. "Are you coming?" He asked looking over at me.
"Umm." I paused, conflicted.
"Suit yourself." He shrugged, before jumping in. When he surfaced, he brushed his hair back, before meeting my gaze. "Come on, Clare. Relax. Jump in. The water is great."
"Fine." I sighed, giving in. Since I wasn't wearing anything underneath, I had to swim with the shirt and boxers Eli gave me. I walked over to the edge near where Eli was in the water.
"Any time now." He smirked at me. I gave him a look, before getting ready to jump in. The moment I hit the surface of the water though, I began to panic. I struggled to break the surface, and used all of my energy to push myself upwards. When I finally did break the surface, I breathed in deeply, trying to keep myself calm. "Hey. Are you okay?" He asked, from next to me.
"Yeah. I just shouldn't have jumped in." I shuddered, brushing my own hair back.
"Do you want to get out?" He asked, as I looked over at him.
"No. I'm fine. My therapist told me I shouldn't put myself in positions that make me feel trapped. It can bring on panic attacks. But I didn't have the swimming problem before I was taken. It had gone away. So I didn't think anything of it." I sighed.
"Maybe you should go back to her. It might be helpful to go back." He suggested.
"I thought about it." I sighed again. "I just wanted some normalcy in my life. Going to her again, would mean that I have to relive it just so she would be able to understand and help me get over it all."
"But maybe reliving it, will help you get over all of it faster?" He suggested.
"I'll talk to Jake in the morning." I agreed.
"Good. Now in the mean time, let's get your mind off of things. Which was my original goal. You've seen how well that worked." He joked, wrapping his arm around my waist.
"What did you have in mind?" I asked.
"Well. I don't know." He leaned in, and our lips met. He pushed me up against the pool wall, using his body to keep me there. I clutched his face in my hands, trying to grasp onto him. I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him towards me more. I pulled my face back so I could look at him, while still keeping my hold on him. "What? What's wrong?" He asked, looking concerned.
"Nothing." I shook my head, brushing the hair out of his face. "I just—" I paused trying to grasp at the words I was trying to say. "Um— Do you want to go upstairs?" I asked, glancing down. I was nervous to hear the answer. Especially after what happened last time.
"Clare. Are you sure?" He asked, as I looked up. "Because I don't want to make things worse for you."
"I'm sure." I replied. "I want to." This was something that I wouldn't lie about.
He kissed me lightly before he pulled away from me, and moved to pull himself up onto the edge of the pool. Once he was standing, he turned around and held out a hand, which I took. He helped me out and to stand, before we walked over to get towels.
