Hey Guys! I'll make this quick since I just posted the other chapter and I rambled on for that. Remember to let me know about the sequel, because this story is coming to a close. I am aiming to stop at Chapter 50, because it's a solid number to end at. Thanks!
As always, Read and Review!
Eli's POV
Waking up later that morning was a complete irritation. Clare and I had only gotten a few hours of sleep, and I wouldn't have woken up at all, had it not been for the incessant buzzing of my phone. I rubbed my eyes and sat up, before grabbing my phone off the nightstand. Glancing at it, I noticed that it was Adam trying to get a hold of me. I also realized that it was almost eleven.
I ended up deciding to call him, figuring it would be easier and faster than to go back and forth through text. He answered on the second ring.
"Dude. Where have you been?" He spoke briskly into the phone.
"Sleeping." I yawned.
"We need to talk. Now. Answer the door." He said. I hung up the phone so I could focus on getting pants on. I ended up sliding on the ones I was wearing last night.
Clare was currently asleep on her stomach facing away from me. She was still naked, as was I, and it made it that much harder to get up and pull some pants on to leave her. She looked so beautiful lying there, that I almost decided to just stay in bed with her. She hadn't stirred when the phone went off or by me talking so hopefully she wasn't going to wake any time soon, especially from me, so hopefully I would be able to crawl back in bed with her.
I walked out of the room, shutting the door behind me. My parents' door was open, and they weren't in it. This wasn't surprising though, because they had said last night that they were going sightseeing. Well, it was more that I encouraged them to go. I hadn't wanted to spend all that much time with them, a few hours here and there was fine, but they wanted all the time they could get. I was becoming suffocated with their questions, and I needed a break.
There wasn't an officer in the room, because he most likely went with my parents, the other one was probably stationed outside the door as usual. I went to open the door, and there was Adam standing outside it.
"Took you long enough." He stated, before letting himself in.
"Well, I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting my best friend to be calling me before I even have a chance to wake up on my own." I explained, annoyed. I followed him over to the living area, before he turned to me.
"Well, what kept you from sleeping that you slept this long? You never sleep this much. Or are you just adjusting quickly to being away from that place?" He prompted.
"Clare had a nightmare. Nothing interesting. We just stayed up for a while afterwards." I explained.
"Uh huh." He spoke, a non-convinced expression on his face. "You slept with her didn't you?"
"Why would you assume that?" I asked, confused.
"Dude. You are good at lying. I'll give you that. But you don't lie to me. So I can tell when you try to. So I'll buy that she had a nightmare. And you probably stayed up for hours afterwards, but don't say nothing interesting happened when clearly something did." He smirked. I didn't know how to respond to that, luckily he wasn't finished talking, so I didn't have to. "Anyways, that's not why I'm here."
"Well I hope not." I muttered. He gave me a look, before continuing.
"Focus. We have a problem." He continued. "The police want to question Clare. They want her statement. They are apparently trying to get all the information they can, and since she is the only other witness they have, they want her."
"That is a problem." I sighed, running a hand over my face. "How did you hear about this?"
"The two officers that are following me around were talking about it. They hope that she'll remember where she was taken to, since she was the most recent abduction that survived." He explained. "They are anxious to take down the organization. Especially since another girl was taken."
"Who was taken?" I asked. I was getting furious now. Asher couldn't help himself. Taking another girl? He's got so many, and he still wants more.
"A girl named Becky Baker. She's seventeen. She does fit the age, and she does look fairly similar to Clare. Maybe he's trying to compensate for her not being there. I hear she was religious too. She'll probably be a surrogate until he gets Clare back." Adam stated.
"He's not getting her back." I growled. I didn't mean to, but even if it was the last thing I did, I would make sure that Asher never got to Clare.
"You know that's not what I meant. And he doesn't know that." Adam reassured.
"I know. I just can't stand the thought of that perverted sociopath even thinking about Clare." I exhaled, trying to calm down.
"Me neither. Which is why someone should tell the police about everything. One of us should do it, because if not, Clare will. She won't know that we kept things from them. Plus we could be in trouble of lying about it. They could believe we are brainwashed after all this time."
"I know. I know." I said, pinching the bridge of my nose, thinking.
"We'd have to also tell them that they have to keep it quiet as well. You and I both know that Asher has spies everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the cops protecting us works for him. They would have to go after Asher, as soon as we tell them everything. Otherwise, everything could be ruined and we could be dead by morning." Adam explained.
"Okay. Let me think." I sighed, beginning to walk around. I couldn't just stand there anymore. "I'll talk to the police. If any wrath comes back at me, it's most likely not going to be fatal. Asher likes me. He sees himself in me somehow. I'll just say that I had to, because they were going to talk to Clare. And she couldn't be manipulated into lying to them. So I had to tell them a little bit of the truth."
"If you are okay with it." Adam said uncertainty in his voice.
"Well of course I'm not but I'm not going to be okay with putting my life on the line against that fucking scum bag, but what else can I do? If you or Clare do it, I might not be able to convince Asher to not kill you." I exclaimed.
"But there is a chance that you could be killed because of it. And so could we because he only let us out, because of you. He wouldn't want any more liabilities." He retorted.
"Well, then I will just have to make sure that doesn't happen." I stated.
"Whatever. I'll see you later. I promised I would go with my parents to talk with a therapist. Apparently, they want to take me back home after this is all over, and they want a second opinion since I don't want to." He shrugged.
"Should be fun." I teased, as I followed him to the door.
"Should be." He exhaled. "Sorry for taking you away from whatever was going on in there by the way." He teased back, smiling as he opened the door.
"Get out." I ordered, as he was leaving.
"I'm going. I'm going." He said, as I shut the door after him.
I ran a hand over my face, as I tried to let go, for now, all the mixed emotions I was currently feeling. Walking back into the room, I noticed Clare wasn't in the bed anymore. I was seriously going to kill Adam for this later. I walked into the room more, and saw that Clare was in the bathroom. She was standing at the sink in one of my shirts. She clearly hadn't noticed me yet, because she was checking her phone that was still plugged into the wall.
"Who said you could get dressed?" I asked, crossing my arms. She smiled before glancing up into the mirror to meet my gaze.
"Well. I would hardly call wearing your shirt, being dressed." She spoke, walking over to me.
"It's more clothes than I want you to be in." I smirked down at her.
"Duly noted." She leaned up to kiss me, which I returned, before she pulled back. "What did Adam want?" She asked, walking passed me and into the room.
"How did you know he was here?" I asked, confused.
"I heard you two talking when I woke up." She explained.
"Oh. He just wanted to let me know before he left, that he was going with his parents to some family-counseling session." I spoke with ease. Adam was right. I can lie easily. Especially when there is truth mixed into it. Although, I don't know how I feel about it being so easy.
"That sounds fun." She replied, not exactly sure if she should be happy or not.
"Exactly what I said." I smirked. She returned the smile, before speaking.
"So. Does that mean we are alone?" She asked.
"We are." I agreed.
"Good. Because I'm not finished with you yet." She stated, pulling me towards the bed. She pulled me against her, with the backs of her knees against the bed. "What?" She smirked evilly. "Scared to keep up with me?"
That was literally the moment that I lost all coherent thoughts besides her. It was all about her. I don't even know how we ended up on the bed, or where our clothes went. All I knew was that I needed more of her. Like I couldn't get enough. She didn't seem to complain, and that was good enough for me.
