Hey guys! Here's the next chapter! Hope you guys enjoy! As always, Read and Review!
Clare's POV
I shot up in bed. My breathing was frantic, and I struggled to get it controlled. Eli hadn't woken up, and I focused on staying quiet, so I didn't wake him. It had been a long day for both of us, and I didn't want to keep him up half the night hoping that I'm okay.
I untangled myself from him, and got out of bed. I quietly walked out of the room, and into the living room. The lights were off, except for the one above the stove in the mini-kitchen, and I didn't see Danny or Derek but they were probably both in the hallway outside the hotel suite. Eli's parents' door was closed, and I didn't want to wake them by turning on the TV or lights so I decided to head out onto the balcony.
The cool air was refreshing, and the view was great. Even though it was late, the majority of the buildings and places were lit up. Offices were dark but the buildings themselves were lit up to a certain extent. Living in a big city, nothing is ever truly quiet, so there were people out and about even though that it was the middle of the night.
I decided to sit down in one of the chairs, and I closed my eyes. I had nearly fallen back to sleep, when I heard the balcony door open.
"Clare?" Derek asked, stepping out onto the balcony. He and Danny were assigned to us instead of the normal officers tonight. We didn't really know why, but then again, it didn't really matter.
"Hi. What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.
"I was just getting something to eat, when I noticed you were out here. Everything okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. I just couldn't sleep." I replied.
"Well at least it's a nice night out." He nodded.
"Yeah. And it's an amazing view." I stated, standing up and walking over to the railing, leaning on it.
"It is." He smiled, standing next to me, and doing the same. "So how do you feel? About it being over I mean?"
"Kind of surreal." I stated. "A little weird that it's finally over, after a month of being on edge, I can finally work on putting it behind me. But I don't know if I can go back to my old life, you know?"
"It won't be easy." He agreed. "But I think you'll get back there. To some sort of normalcy. You're strong. You'll get through this."
"Yeah. Maybe." I exhaled, not really sure if that was true. I looked back out at the view, but I noticed, through my peripheral, that Derek was still looking at me. I looked over to him, expecting him to say something. Instead, he surprised me, by kissing me. I was too shocked to do anything at first, but as soon as I got my bearings, I pushed him back lightly. It worked and he pulled back, however, it was only enough to make eye contact. "What are you doing?"
"Come on, Clare. Don't worry so much." He stated, leaning in again. I held him away from me, keeping him from moving in, but he wrapped his arms around me anyways.
"Derek. No. I'm sorry but I don't like you like that. And I'm with Eli." I stated.
"What does that have to do with anything?" He asked. I tried to keep him away but he was stronger then me, and he started kissing my neck. "It would just be sex. No one would have to know." He spoke in between kisses.
"What the hell are you talking about? Why would you possibly think I would be into something like that?" I asked, finally pushing him off of me.
"Oh I don't know." He snapped back. "You have slept with quite a few guys. And I'm only aware of a couple. How could you be so unforthcoming about it now?"
"What do you mean, 'quite a few guys'?" I argued.
"Well let's see, there's K.C., Fitz, and you would've slept with Asher if you were with him longer. And don't even think I don't know what you are doing in that bedroom every night with Eli." He explained.
"Are you serious?" I exclaimed. "The only one I have been with willingly is Eli! Everyone else has raped me. There is no way I could even be held accountable for those. There's no way." I was fuming.
"That's not what I heard." He stated, stepping closer to me. "Fitz wouldn't lie about something so unimportant."
"Fitz?" I stammered. I lost all courage and fight the moment he said those words. "You talked to Fitz?"
"Yeah. Me and Fitzy boy go way back." He smiled. This time it wasn't a nice smile. It was all sinister. "Which is how I know that you are lying about the slut we both know you are."
"You work with him don't you." I stated, beginning to figure it all out. "For Asher."
"He told me to keep an eye on you. I was supposed to make sure that those two fuckers weren't going to screw Asher over with you. Did you know that they were supposed to bring you back to him? That you were only on a temporary release to get you looked at after what happened with K.C.?" He asked. "I bet they didn't tell you that little detail did they?"
"They wouldn't do that. They wouldn't go through with it. They wouldn't do that to me." I argued, tears welling up in my eyes.
"Clare. There is very little a guy won't do when it's for a girl that looks the way you do." He sneered. "He was probably hoping to get laid before all of this was over, and I know he achieved his goal." He said looking me, in Eli's boxers and shirt, up and down. "Now. I am going to get what I came here for, before I kill you because I need a release and this is just too good an opportunity to pass up."
He began groping me, as I fought against him. He kept pushing me backwards, until I hit the wall adjacent to the railing. In fact, I was too close to the railing that I was almost touching it. I cried out as he pulled me towards him, just to slam me into the wall again. It stunned me enough that I almost blacked out from the pain.
I knew this wasn't good for my head injury but there was nothing I could do about it. All I could do was hope that I could fight him off enough to get away. All I would have to do was get to Danny who was in the hallway. He would be able to stop him. That's all I needed.
"Is someone out there?" I heard someone call. It was from a couple balconies over from us, so I didn't know who it was.
"Help! Please!" I cried out.
"Shut up!" Derek growled, grasping my neck and pushing me against the wall harder.
"Clare?" The voice called back. I recognized it then as Adam.
"Adam!" I called, trying to pull Derek's hands off of me, just before I got the wind knocked out of me.
Derek elbowed me in the stomach, hard enough that I felt like I couldn't breathe. He pushed me against the railing, and I immediately started to panic. I didn't want to die, but that was looking like a very real outcome when I could feel no support behind my back as he kept pushing me down.
I didn't hear anymore from Adam, but I couldn't wait for him to get help. I needed to fight hard enough to get away. I needed to do this. I needed to live.
"This is for Asher." He stated, before pushing me farther backwards.
"Well, this is for me." I replied, kneeing him.
It caught him off guard enough that I pushed him away from me, he stumbled enough that my punch sent him toward the railing. I tried to stop him from going over but there wasn't much I could do. He stumbled over the edge, and I grabbed at him, getting his arm barely in my grasp. He let go of my hand when he had a grasp of the railing enough to hold himself there, but when he couldn't pull himself up on his own, he grabbed my hair.
I cried out, trying to pull his hand off of me, while he began tugging me towards him. I had to struggle to get him off of me, while trying not to fall over the railing as well. I threw a messy punch at him again, and it must've hit him the right way because he let go of my hair. The next thing I saw was him on the ground down below.
He was lying in an unnatural position, and the lights from the courtyard below were enough for me to see that he wasn't going to survive. I backed up, leaning against the wall, I slid down it and curled into myself. I wrapped my arms around my knees when I realized I was shaking and just started sobbing. Within seconds, a crash was heard and Adam was there in front of me.
"Clare? What happened? Are you okay?"Adam asked, as he reached me.
"Adam? What's going on?" Eli asked, rushing onto the balcony.
"Clare? Where is he?" Adam continued to question me, ignoring Eli's question.
I don't know how he knew exactly what was going on, but he wasn't surprised in the least when I gestured to the railing. One of the officers, assigned to Adam, walked over to balcony and looked over the railing. He swore before returning to the call he was in the middle of. He walked back inside without saying anything else. Eli glanced over the railing for a moment before focusing back on me.
"Derek?" Eli asked. "He attacked you?"
"He did more than that. He killed the two officers that were stationed in the hallway." Adam explained.
"Danny's dead?" I asked, my voice cracking.
Adam nodded as Eli pulled me into him, letting me cling to him. I glanced into the main room of the suite, over Eli's shoulder, and saw the lights were on and Eli's parents were talking with the only surviving officer. He was off the phone, and was explaining something to them.
But I didn't care about that. I actually didn't care about anyone or anything besides the fact that I was alive and that Eli and Adam were here with me. Right now, that is all I will focus on. That's all I could focus on. But it was enough. We were enough.
