Awakening

I own nothing *pout* though I would love to.

Thankfully, I managed to get onto the school's lawn without much more fuss, the other three had branched off from the main group, so now it was only Logan tagging along. He was tense, and I knew that he didn't trust me. But that was ok, I didn't mind.

Logan didn't trust most people after all.

I breathed in deeply and enjoyed the feeling of the sun against my skin as I strode towards the wardstone. What I had discovered as Benjamin, was that while this world didn't have nearly the same amount of magic that my original had, it still had quite a bit; though it was a different type of magic...it had a different feel to it. By messing with some runes and pushing some of my own power into them, I had managed to create powerful wards around the mansion...some of the strongest I knew. I was pretty sure that they challenged Hogwart's own.

"Wha…?"

I glanced around to see why Logan yelled, and instantly rolled my eyes, my Bond twitching.

"You could be less dramatic you know." I drawled as Mortem's arms wrapped around my waist.

"But it's fun." He whispered into my ear in English. It was strange, his speaking ability. Some Immortals were able to speak 'mortal tongue' as they called it without problem. Insania did it all the time, but others, like Mortem, had trouble. The only time he was able to speak it was when I was Awake, because I'm then able to push the ability along through the Bond...or something like that anyway.

I almost sighed in content as our Bond sprang back to life full force, like tsunami of feelings, magic, and power. I could feel his mind, practically singing in relief, and mentally patted him on the head. He'd been worried about me.

His emotions ran through the back of my mind like a cool slow river, compared to my emotions which were like lava rapids.

He tightened his grip on my waist and set his chin on my shoulder. I rolled my eyes and smiled fondly at him.

"You know, it's hard to walk with you like this." I teased him and Charles chuckled.

"Hello again Mortem."

"Charles." He glanced over at the man and nodded, showing just how much he actually respected him.

As our Bond finished reestablishing, my eyes started to itch. Blinking in confusion I poked my eyes with my energy a few times and also gasped as the world lit up with color around me.

Mortem was surrounded in an aura of black and gold, it was huge, and I knew that if he was in his true Immortal form it would be much larger.

I had forgotten about this power, seeing that auras and Souls of the people around me. It had been one of my powers that had developed early, but Fati had sealed it away, along with the memories regarding it, eons ago.

"Wow," I muttered too low for anyone but Mortem to hear as I looked over at the humans. My eyes widened, Charles aura was bright blue with wisps of soft purple.

I had seen his Soul before.

Now, when a Soul is Cleansed and reincarnated, it changes a bit, but the base color never truly goes away; and this Soul...this Soul I could recognize anywhere even if I had only seen it once before.

His Souls was the first one that I saw in this form, and it was only minutes after all three of the Hallows accepted me, only moments after I had taken the first step in becoming an Immortal.

I had last seen this Soul in a white version of Kings Cross Station….

"Dumbledore" The name seemed to echo across my mind, and I wasn't surprised when Mortem held me tighter and nodded.

"I see you unlocked your Sight…"

I didn't reply, as I turned to look at Logan, and was once again surprised at what I saw.

It had taken Fati a few lifetimes to lock my Soul Sight away, so I recognized his Soul as well. It was a bright, deep green, like the color of rain forests and wildlife. Browns and reds swirled around the edges and I almost hit myself for not realizing it sooner.

Logan was also an old friend of mine, from my Fourth Life; he wouldn't remember me of course, but they were similar in personality, I was surprised that I hadn't noticed it before.

Then again, running into the same Soul more than once wasn't likely, even for me. But then, logically, I guess that it would make sense… with all of my lives, I was bound to run into some familiar Souls at one point or another.

It was just…

Charles Xavier and Wolverine being Albus and Dean….

I...definitely wasn't expecting that.

It had taken me a moment, but I had adjusted and closed off the Sight. It was useful, but pointless at the moment.

Shaking my head, I turned around; Mortem still wrapped around me, and finished the trip to the wardstone.

"You alright?" Charles as me quietly as he rolled up to my side. Ironically, my Duties called to me at the same moment, causing me to twitch, but I nodded anyway.

I needed to get this done and get to NY quickly; otherwise my Duties would start to get painful.

"Mortem, you need to get off of me for this." I stated as Logan continued to watch us carefully.

"But you just woke up," He muttered into my hair and I was actually surprised at how clingy he was being. This was quite out of character for him.

I rolled my eyes, when suddenly my Duties screamed at me, causing my Soul to twitch and for me to gasp in pain. I clenched my eyes shut and focused on the Call.

Rage filled me as I realized that the Chitauri had started to attack the Humans, and that Loki was provoking them.

Ok, Fati had crossed the line.

"Mortem, I want you to go head up the situation in New York. Someone" aka an Immortal "needs to be there until I finish this up." I told him and Mortem, Lord Death, Immortal, and the guy-you-never-should-piss-off pouted.

I glared at him.

"Mortem," I drawled warningly, and my Bonded sighed.

"Fine...can I let them help? It has been centuries since they've been loose, and I believe that pitting them against the Chitauri might...calm them down for a few more centuries."

I sighed, knowing what Mortem was talking about. Charles and Logan didn't say a word as I thought.

Finally, I nodded and said, "Fine, but if they even look at one Soul you're going to be spending the next Immortal Month in Cor."

Mortem paled, and nodded earnestly. Time moved different in Cor, slower, you could say. I never really could figure it out, but let's just say that on a good day, a month in Cor could be a month in a mortal world; and on a bad day...a few centuries.

Kissing me quickly, he vanished into my shadow, leaving me with two confused Mortals.

"Thanks for that." I drawled to him through the Bond.

"Love you, love." He replied and I wished that I could smack him.

"Alright, I need to get to New York, so let's get these back up." I stated and the others just nodded slowly. The actual wardstone was buried beneath about ten feet of dirt, beneath the tree that I was currently kneeling under. But I didn't need to dig it up, I just needed to recharge them. Closing my eyes I let my power flare and pushed it down into the earth, and wrapped it tightly around the wardstone. Now that it was charged with my own power, I reached deeper into the earth and plucked a string of natural magic and wrapped it around the stone.

With a blast of power, the stone awoke and the wards sprang back to life.

Logan gasped and I opened my eyes to see the golden dome that was the wards slowly rebuild themselves; Charles was also staring at the sight, though with hope in his eyes.

I smiled, these wards had saved more lives than I could remember, and it just felt right to fix them.

As we stood there, well, I knelt, and watched the wards regrow a small group of students who had been scattered across the grounds all gravitated towards their headmaster, some seeking comfort, others answers.

"What is that Professor?" A young boy around the age of twelve asked, and Charles chuckled as he gave the boy a smile.

"That is a very powerful shield, one which hasn't worked in many years. Once again, our school is the safest place in the world."

I smiled at that, as all of the students suddenly looked up in awe, I chuckled as the dome closed, causing a slate of magic right over the mansion.

"There's one last thing I'd like to ask of you Charles," I spoke softly as I climbed to my feet and stood at his side.

"Oh? What's that?" He replied just as softly, his tone much lighter than it had before.

He glanced up at me as I asked, "Do you still have my knife?"

My old friend chuckled, and waved me forward.

"Of course."

By the time we made it to the other side of the grounds we had gathered an even bigger crowd. For a moment it was like I was back at Hogwarts, with so many kids whispering and staring at me.
I didn't respond to them, though I did chuckle at a few of the things I heard.

No, I wasn't Xavier's daughter, and no I wasn't there to kill Erik.

And I definitely wasn't a zombie sent by Erik to eat their brains, seriously, that one was just idiotic.

Besides, reanimating the dead had always been Hel's pastime.

Charles took us past the mansion and through the trees to the edge of the property. Most of the kids looked confused, wondering where we were going, and I was too. I didn't remember anything being back here.

"Oh," I gasped in realization as we passed a large oak tree, and I caught sight of a memorial, with my old name, birthdate, and deathdate inscribed on iron plaque.

I glanced over at Charles and rolled my eyes. I had told him that I didn't want a grave.

As if guessing my thoughts he said with a smirk, "Not a grave, memorial."

Shaking my head and ignoring the numerous people watching I strode up to the large marble statue of a cloaked figure with wings and I couldn't stop the small feeling of wrongness that crept up my spine.

It was weird seeing your own memorial.

The craftsmanship was extremely high quality, I noticed as I scanned the thing. I hoped that my knife wasn't inside, as that would definitely be sad if I had to break it.

"Here," Charles said as he rolled forward, leaning over, he pressed the Deathly Hallows sign that had been engraved above my name. Instantly, I heard a lock click and the iron plate slid forward revealing my dagger.

It could be considered small, the blade only six inches long and decorated with celtic knots. The handle was blue leather with the Hallows sign burned onto the material with melted silver. The knife wasn't overly special, but Mortem had given it to me for our 500th Bonding anniversary. I had kept it with me in every life after that, until I had lost in as Ben. I had been beyond distraught, but I was glad that Charles had found and saved it.

Sliding the dagger into its shaft on my hip I turned and nodded towards Charles, a silent thank you in my eyes.

He smiled at me and nodded back, no words were needed amongst old friends.

"I'll keep you updated." I said as my Duties called out to me once again.

We shared a look again, before my Sparks few around me.

I watched with a small sense of satisfaction as everyone stared at me in awe, and then, I was gone.

I had work to do after all.

It was time that Fati learned that no one messed with my Realm.

Ok, a bit more eventful, and Pen did a bit more shocking :) Mortem was adorable and the NY actions starts next chapter!

Hope you're enjoying it,
