Eve woke up with a red nose and swollen eyes. Her face was still tear-stained and the trails glistened against her skin. Her small golden orbs stared defiantly at Chung, unaware that he had heard her sobbing last night.
"Just so you know, I wasn't crying. I am merely having an allergic reaction. This cell has an awful sanitary problem."She retorted, crossing her arms and letting out a pitiful fake sneeze. "But nothing I can't handle." She added quickly. Chung rolled his eyes but decided to let it go. "Well clean your face. You look more mortifying than you already are. Here are your clothes, Raven wants you to join us for breakfast."
Eve's posture tensed, but she slowly took the clothes. "I'm not hungry." She sniffed. He sighed. "You either eat with us or don't eat at all. Honestly, why do you have to make my job so hard?"
"Option two, please." She snapped.
"For the love of Lady El..." Chung swore under his breath and picked her up by the waist, slinging her over his shoulder. They both sensed déjà vu. He marched them both down the long corridor. Then he stopped. Why hadn't he ever noticed this before? Suddenly way too aware of the fact that Eve had a very small waist and was rather light for her age, his hand that was rested on her petite waist tightened. Eve let out a giggle. "S-Stop that! That tickles you idiot!"
His face was on fire and so was his hand. Wishing he could let go, he merely cleared his throat. Chung strode down the hall with robotic movements, and Eve who had given up, slumped against his back. Her lips rested daintily on his lower back and she breathed in his scent. He smelled nice for someone who killed people on a daily basis. The faint smell of blood did cling onto him but the other smells of spice, herbs, and soap overpowered it.
Eve flushed. She smelled him unconsciously, but it's not her fault! Staying perfectly horizontal in mid-air strained her back, so obviously she was going to slump over. It was inevitable that her face would wound up squished against his back.
"We're here." His quiet voice snapped her out of her guilty fantasies. When she walked past him, she could've sworn his cheeks were tinged pink but it was Chung, there was no way. Eve slapped her cheeks, hard. Then she straightened her posture, and tossed her hair dramatically before walking in. She walked in with such dignity that Chung physically felt his lips part in surprise. The girl who sobbed for hours last night was no where to be found. Even Elsword looked up from his food.
"Eve, my old friend." Raven held open his arms, a fake smile plastered on. "We may have known each other for a long time, but we are most definitely not friends." Eve replied calmly before sitting down and smoothing her skirts. His eyebrow twitched.
Chung groaned internally from the other side of the table and Elsword snorted before putting a hand over his mouth and batting his eyelashes. "Dear me, such harsh truths this early in the morning is bad for digestion." Raven shot him a glare. The fiery swordsman snickered but quieted.
"Now Eve, no need to be churlish." Raven said, deathly calm. His fake smile was still there but his eyes had lost amusement. The Nasod examined her nails before unfolding a napkin onto her lap. "But I am merely speaking the truth." His smile faded but he was still calm, Chung began to feel uneasy. Elsword's head was still bent over his plate but his eyes were narrowed through his eyelashes.
"So did you sleep well last night?" Raven said, happily changing the subject. "I do not see how that pertains any relevance to the subject at hand but if you must know, it was very fitful. My wounds were constantly re-opening every time I moved. It was awful." She tore off a piece of bread and popped it into her mouth. Chung wanted to shake that stupid girl until her teeth rattled, not that it would help anything. "My sheets are all bloodied too! Send some maids or something to clean it up. I refuse to sleep on bloody sheets." She crossed her arms.
"Please do not forget that you are a prisoner. Not a guest." Chung cut in, his voice neutral. He shot a nervous glance at the ebony haired man who was beet red from fury. "Oh, yes. You are absolutely right." She shrugged nonchalantly before slamming her hand on the table so hard that Elsword's drink tipped over. "So why are you keeping me alive?" Her eyes flashed. "Your goal is to kill me, right? So why haven't you? You could say you want me to die a slow death but I don't think that's the case. You have what you want. My kingdom is falling apart. Just kill me and Velder will be yours. Or," Eve's voice was chillingly calm. Elsword could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. Chung looked like he felt the same way.
"Is it because of Rena?" She coolly finished.
Rena found herself sitting in Eve's room. It was so familiar. Her room smelled of old books and apples. She loved apples. The elf went from sitting on her friend's bed to rummaging around in her drawers. Eve had nothing in the wooden furniture. But Rena found a slice of cheesecake under Eve's bed. It was probably placed there a few hours before she got kidnapped. Ugh, she knew that sneaky little Nasod hid food. Her weary green eyes saddened, it's been nearly two weeks now. Raven has probably beaten her several times, and knowing Eve, she's provoking him into doing it.
But he wouldn't kill her. She knew he wouldn't. Rena looked like Seris. A lot like Seris. Raven thought of her as the second Seris, he always had. Having the first one die, then the second start hating him, he wouldn't—he couldn't be able to bare it. Rena continuously comforted herself with that thought.
Sighing, Rena closed the drawer. She was ready to stop beating around the bush and finally go apologize to Aisha, who she had taken out her frustrations out on. The El Lady bless her soul. As she was heading out, the slightly opened closet in Eve's room caught her eye. Eve never used that closet for clothes. It was just for books. The edge of a worn, burgundy book was peeking out of the ajar door. Eve never left her books out in the open like that. The door to that closet was always closed and the books were neatly organized in alphabetical order. Rena slowly edged over to it, and opened it. On the front page, written in perfect handwriting:
L. Lupus.
Author's Note: Ooooh! I wonder who that could be, even though it's pretty obvious. .w.
